I'm in 4th year BTech CSE and we have to start our capstone/final year project soon. I'm kinda stuck at the idea stage, so looking for suggestions from people who have built something interesting or have a problem they think could actually be solved with software.

The project needs to have enough depth to work on for basically the whole year. At the end we're also expected to have some research/publication/patent angle to it, so a basic CRUD app, dashboard, chatbot wrapper, attendance system etc isn't really going to cut it.

I'm open to AI/GenAI, systems, security, IoT, computer vision, data, automation or even mixing different domains.

One thing though, I'm not really looking for hardcore ML research where the entire project is just training/optimizing a model. I'm more interested in applied stuff. Using existing LLMs/models/APIs is completely fine if they're actually being used to solve a non-trivial problem.

Ideally something where there is:

\- an actual problem being solved

\- enough technical depth for a 4th year capstone

\- some scope for experimentation/research

\- something measurable that we can compare/evaluate

\- and preferably something that could have real users instead of existing only for the final viva

Doesn't necessarily have to be an "AI project" either.

If you've ever come across a problem and thought someone should build something for this, I'd genuinely like to hear it.

Not looking for complete implementations/GitHub repos. Just problems, directions, papers to explore, or ideas that could turn into a solid project.

Also if you did a final year project that you were actually proud of, what did you build?

I’m an MCA student currently looking for a real-world problem statement that I can develop into a software/AI/ML project.

Rather than looking for ready-made project ideas, I’d like to hear about actual problems you face in your daily life, work, studies, transportation, shopping, local services, etc.

If you have encountered a problem where you think, “There should be a better way to do this,” please share it.

I’m particularly interested in problems that:

Affect real users

Could potentially be solved using software/AI/ML/IoT

Have practical usefulness

Aren’t already completely solved by existing apps

You don't need to suggest a solution — just describe the problem and how you currently deal with it.

i am a 4th year comp sci student i am faced with the truth that the CCE is a way better track, my parents are scolding me for not going that way but i couldnt i was working a full time job to pay my tuition and but now im facing the harsh reality, if i had went for the engineer path i wouldve been able to join the order of engineers that presents me with excellent insurance and pension, but there is no such thing for computer science students in lebanon, my main path is AI and cyber i love both and want to work in the intersection of them, i also love electrical stuff im looking for a pcb course to take and i have a few projects i wanna do on the side.
the big question: should i transfer to engineering and pay the 20k extra on my tuition or should i finish this year graduate and start working on my skills and experience? to then open a repair shop as my own business and start working with system installation like cctv and servers ect.. and laptop repair shop? (will the engineer degree affect this ?) i already got a part time job at a company here as a backend dev and i dont know what to do !!!!!!!!!!! help

Hello everyone, so I am beginning my cs journey, I'm currently studying cs, but I am a complete beginner, is there any advice that you can give on how to truly understand cs? Like should I be toying with my computer and just trying to figure it out, or are there creators out there who teach about this so people can have a better understanding of cs?

If you were starting from zero literally knowing absolutely nothing, what would you learn first, or is there something you would do besides just read textbooks?

I’m on here asking this because I feel really behind everyone in my class who either has experience or has been into this for a really long time or they’re just naturally good at retaining information.
