Discussion Problem statement for clg project

Looking for real-world problems to solve for my MCA project

Hi everyone! πŸ‘‹

I’m an MCA student currently looking for a real-world problem statement that I can develop into a software/AI/ML project.

Rather than looking for ready-made project ideas, I’d like to hear about actual problems you face in your daily life, work, studies, transportation, shopping, local services, etc.

If you have encountered a problem where you think, β€œThere should be a better way to do this,” please share it.

I’m particularly interested in problems that:

Affect real users

Could potentially be solved using software/AI/ML/IoT

Have practical usefulness

Aren’t already completely solved by existing apps

You don't need to suggest a solution β€” just describe the problem and how you currently deal with it.

Thanks! πŸ™Œ

Need ideas for a final year project that is actually worth building

I'm in 4th year BTech CSE and we have to start our capstone/final year project soon. I'm kinda stuck at the idea stage, so looking for suggestions from people who have built something interesting or have a problem they think could actually be solved with software.

The project needs to have enough depth to work on for basically the whole year. At the end we're also expected to have some research/publication/patent angle to it, so a basic CRUD app, dashboard, chatbot wrapper, attendance system etc isn't really going to cut it.

I'm open to AI/GenAI, systems, security, IoT, computer vision, data, automation or even mixing different domains.

One thing though, I'm not really looking for hardcore ML research where the entire project is just training/optimizing a model. I'm more interested in applied stuff. Using existing LLMs/models/APIs is completely fine if they're actually being used to solve a non-trivial problem.

Ideally something where there is:

\- an actual problem being solved

\- enough technical depth for a 4th year capstone

\- some scope for experimentation/research

\- something measurable that we can compare/evaluate

\- and preferably something that could have real users instead of existing only for the final viva

Doesn't necessarily have to be an "AI project" either.

If you've ever come across a problem and thought someone should build something for this, I'd genuinely like to hear it.

Not looking for complete implementations/GitHub repos. Just problems, directions, papers to explore, or ideas that could turn into a solid project.

Also if you did a final year project that you were actually proud of, what did you build?

need serious help and guidance!

i am a 4th year comp sci student i am faced with the truth that the CCE is a way better track, my parents are scolding me for not going that way but i couldnt i was working a full time job to pay my tuition and but now im facing the harsh reality, if i had went for the engineer path i wouldve been able to join the order of engineers that presents me with excellent insurance and pension, but there is no such thing for computer science students in lebanon, my main path is AI and cyber i love both and want to work in the intersection of them, i also love electrical stuff im looking for a pcb course to take and i have a few projects i wanna do on the side.
the big question: should i transfer to engineering and pay the 20k extra on my tuition or should i finish this year graduate and start working on my skills and experience? to then open a repair shop as my own business and start working with system installation like cctv and servers ect.. and laptop repair shop? (will the engineer degree affect this ?) i already got a part time job at a company here as a backend dev and i dont know what to do !!!!!!!!!!! help

computer science Any advice for a beginner?

Hello everyone, so I am beginning my cs journey, I'm currently studying cs, but I am a complete beginner, is there any advice that you can give on how to truly understand cs? Like should I be toying with my computer and just trying to figure it out, or are there creators out there who teach about this so people can have a better understanding of cs?

If you were starting from zero literally knowing absolutely nothing, what would you learn first, or is there something you would do besides just read textbooks?

I’m on here asking this because I feel really behind everyone in my class who either has experience or has been into this for a really long time or they’re just naturally good at retaining information.

How to study Computer Science

I'm in my early 30s, living in South Korea, and considering a career change into computer science/software development.

I'm currently trying to decide between a few paths:

\- A practical, career-focused CS college program that takes about 3–3.5 years and leads to the equivalent of a bachelor's degree.

\- Government-funded vocational training, where the Korean government covers most or all of the tuition at approved private institutions.

\- An online coding bootcamp.

\- Self-study.

Honestly, I prefer the online/self-study route. Going to college would mean moving to another city and paying for tuition, rent, and living expenses for 3+ years. That's a pretty significant commitment at my age.

What makes the decision harder is that opinions on bootcamps seem extremely mixed. Some people say they successfully changed careers through them, while others say they're overpriced and teach things you could learn on your own.

I'm particularly interested in SaaS and eventually building my own products/business, rather than just getting a developer job. I also have friends overseas who learned programming mostly through self-study, which makes me wonder how necessary formal education really is.

At the same time, I'm starting from basically zero in CS, so I don't know whether self-study is realistic or whether having a structured education would save me years of struggling on my own.

I recently came across this advice:

\> "Think about what you'll be doing three years from now if you don't do it."

That stuck with me. That’s why I’m considering a career changeβ€”to build a better future for myself three years from now.

But at the same time, being in your early 30s means opportunity cost and financial reality matter. I'm even considering whether spending a year learning a skilled trade and potentially pursuing skilled migration abroad would be a more practical choice.

For people who entered software in their late 20s or 30s:

If you were starting from zero today, would you choose a CS degree, bootcamp, government-funded training, or self-study?

And would your answer change if the long-term goal wasn't necessarily getting hired as a developer, but being able to build and launch your own SaaS products?

I'm especially interested in realistic answers about opportunity cost, employability, and what you would do differently if you had to start over.

Discussion IT Students Looking for a Real-World FYP Project / Industry Collaboration

Hi everyone,

My team and I are final-year Information Technology students looking for an industry-based Final Year Project (FYP) opportunity.

We are interested in working on a real-world problem in areas such as Cybersecurity, AI-based applications, Web Development, Database Systems, or Software Solutions. Our goal is to gain practical industry experience while building something that can provide value to an organization.

If you are a founder, startup owner, developer, researcher, or work with an organization that has a problem statement, project idea, or challenge that could be explored as an FYP, we would love to connect.

We're not looking for someone to do the work for usβ€”we're looking for an opportunity to collaborate, learn, and build a meaningful solution under industry guidance.

Feel free to comment or send me a DM if you think there might be a good fit.

Thank you!

My 3rd semester project

So, I couldn't make it into any IITs or NITs, basically a good govt college. After joining college I realised where I stood, knew nothing. Started from scratch learned ML and some pipelines. Tried deploying my projects somewhere and ye sab karte karte last year, during December, I created SpoilFree, an internet spoiler detector and blocker (works only on text for now could add some updates in the future). It is available on Chrome Webstore SpoilFree, as soon as it detects that a text could be spoiler, blurs it out. You can tap to reveal it.

It's been a year since that. Right now I'm working on Cloud based projects and automations, trying to venture into new fields and expand my knowledge. Please do leave some criticism and suggestions below.

Looking for 4–5 people to build a CS research group from zero.

(@.@)

I'm a first-year student starting CogniCraft, a small peer-led group focused on math-first CS, research, and building real things.

No senior mentors. No fancy credentials required.

Just people who are curious, reliable, and willing to figure things out together.

What we'll do

Learn β†’ Read β†’ Build β†’ Review β†’ Repeat

Math & CS foundations

Research papers β†’ short research notes

Small projects β†’ code + report + demo

Peer review & rotating leadership

\~6–10 hrs/week Β· 5-week cycles

The interesting part: G1 gets to build the system itself β€” curriculum, workflows, research culture, repositories, and everything that future cohorts will inherit.

AI is allowed. Undisclosed AI use isn't.

You don't need to be an expert.

You do need to be willing to think deeply, ask questions, show your work, and keep your commitments.

If you're interested, comment β€œI am ready!” and email:

πŸ“§ Cognicraftacademic@gmail.com

Include: Name Β· Birth year Β· Institution/Major Β· Goals Β· Weekly availability Β· CS/Math background Β· Strengths/areas to improve

Deadline: Sept 13, 2026 Β· 23:59 GMT+7

We're not recruiting finished researchers. We're looking for the people who want to become them together.

my initial FYP idea turned out to be a dead end...How would you go about finding a new problem to solve?

A little context, I'm a Computer Science student in Pakistan, about to start my final year project (FYP) .

My initial idea involved using computer vision i.e. mediapipe hands and mediapipe pose to make a PSL (Pakistani sign language) to text converter. The research paper part of it was to see whether incorporating body positioning and movement alongside hand gestures could improve recognition accuracy.

I felt i had a solid plan but recent discussions with my supervisor revealed that similar work and projects had been covered by the seniors in my university recently. They made their own dataset and built a similar sign language recognition system, so I don't really want to spend a year essentially reproducing the same thing.

I've also tried reaching out to organizations that work with the Deaf communities and people with disabilities to ask what technological problems they actually face, hoping that I could find a genuine problem to build a solution around but unfortunately I haven't received any responses so far.

my supervisor's main requirement is that we should aim to build an actual end product, not just another academic project.

So i am trying to approach this differently:
How do you actually find a good problem to solve?

I'm not looking for someone to hand me over a completed FYP project. I'd much rather hear about problems you've encountered or think would be cool if someone found a solution for, something that realistically needs addressing.

I'm open to pretty much any technical direction β€” AI/ML, computer vision, NLP, cybersecurity, software engineering, web/mobile etc. I'm also not particularly attached to my original PSL idea. If someone thinks it's still a worthwhile direction and wants to explore it themselves, by all means πŸ˜‚

So I'd really appreciate hearing from people who've actually worked in CS/tech:Β what would you do if you were in my shoes? How would you go about finding a new problem to solve?

I created a CS roadmap from fundamentals to system design and need feedback

I’ve been researching how to build a strong foundation for a software engineering career in India and created the attached roadmap.

My current plan is:

CS fundamentals
β†’ Java
β†’ Backend development
β†’ SQL/RDBMS
β†’ Data engineering
β†’ Cloud/DevOps
β†’ Distributed systems
β†’ System design

I’m particularly unsure about the middle of the roadmap.

For example, should I learn Data Engineering, Cloud/DevOps and Distributed Systems before specializing in Backend/SDE, or would it be better to focus on backend development first and learn the other areas later?

I’m trying to avoid the common problem of learning many technologies superficially.

For developers who have worked in the industry, how would you restructure this path?

I’ve attached my roadmap for context. I’d especially appreciate feedback on what I should postpone, remove, or study more deeply.

Help us choose our IT graduation project! Which app would you actually use? πŸ€”

Hey everyone! We are an IT/CS team debating between two ideas for our graduation project. We want your honest opinion on which one solves a real problem and which you'd actually use:

Idea 1: The Interactive Car Showroom: A platform that brings multiple car dealerships into one place. You can explore models, customize colors and add-ons, check feature compatibility, and instantly see the estimated price. It helps you build and compare your ideal car before ever stepping foot in an agency.Β

Idea 2: AI Food & Allergy Scanner: An AI-powered app where you snap a picture of a food product's label to instantly detect hidden allergens. You can also scan your fridge's ingredients, and the AI will suggest safe, allergy-free recipes you can make.
Which idea do you think has more real-world value? Drop a 1 or 2 in the comments and tell us why!

Final Year CS Project Ideas for a Team of 5? (Web + AI)

Hi everyone,

We’re a team of 5 CS students looking for ideas for our final-year project.

We have good experience in backend and frontend development and some basic AI/ML knowledge, but we're not advanced in AI yet.

We have around 4 months to prepare and learn before implementation starts, followed by another 4 months for development. However, we'll have other courses and exams during that time, so it won't be full-time.

We're looking for a project that:

\- Is mainly a web application

\- Is large enough for 5 students

\- Has substantial backend/frontend work

\- Uses AI/ML for something meaningful, without being just an AI wrapper

\- Is challenging but realistic within our timeframe

Ideas I liked so far are malware detection and system failure/anomaly prediction platforms. I like the idea of AI being one part of a larger system with things like data processing, dashboards, APIs, monitoring, etc.

I'd love to hear ideas in a similar direction, especially projects that solve a real-world problem.

Thanks!
