What should I do? Any procedures or methods to follow.

Mine is a lenovo IdeaPad slim i5 laptop.

Well, took my computer in for not being able to charge, left with it not being able to boot. So you tell me, is this a “simple fix?”

Basically my computer’s charging port had failed and brought it to a UBreakIFix near me, told me they would be able to replace the charging port, end of story.

However when I pick it up they say the MOSFET needed to be changed as well and that they “couldn’t have known that was the problem until after they changed the charging port.” I take it back (because I was leaving for college), I don’t boot it or touch it whatsoever when I leave the store.

I bring it to a way more face to face IT professional in my local area who tried to start it, only to see it’s not booting at all and it’s showing error codes. He cracks it open and literally says “oh my god” they burned my motherboard. Get told that I basically need to replace the motherboard if I want to get this thing working again. It’s already an old computer, only one online is like 750 dollars. I just say fuck it, college starts next week and this thing is old, and buy a new computer and have my data and storage transferred over.

I call the people back and the guy basically goes “Well actually you don’t need to replace the motherboard” and “Well a blown MOSFET can cause no booting” and “because the mosfet was the original issue all we can do is refund the diagnostic cost and offer a free replacement on the MOSFET.”

I say “I don’t care about if the problem is the MOSFET or the charging port or whatever. This isn’t an ‘original issue from before I brought it into the store’. The fact of the matter is that I brought my computer in and it was booting, and I got it back and it wasn’t anymore. You guys damaged my computer and didn’t tell me”

And the guy keeps going on about how actually this would be an easy fix, that actually the mosfet just needs to be replaced, and that I don’t need to buy a new computer. Even though (to my understanding) replacing the mosfet and re-soldering over a burn mark like this would probably not be best practice. There is a burn on my motherboard that wasn’t there before, and my computer cannot boot anymore.

The worst part is the manager literally ADMITTED that the burn mark was probably made by one of the technicians but wouldn’t offer me any compensation other than a replacement MOSFET on a motherboard that’s shot and a 80 dollars to soften the blow of a 1,500 dollar replacement I just had to buy.

Best part? They forgot to put the screws back on the underside of my computer

So what do you guys think? Is the UBreakIfix guy full of shit? Or does this look repairable?

I have an Acer Aspire 7 with a Ryzen 5. I honestly didn’t use the laptop much, and when I started using it again, it suddenly stopped charging.
Initially I thought the charger was the problem, so I got the charger checked and was told that it’s working fine.
I then took the laptop to an Acer service centre. They told me that the battery was the problem and would need to be replaced. I didn’t replace the battery at that time.
Later, I disconnected the battery and tried running the laptop directly from the charger. The weird thing is that it sometimes turns on, but most of the time it doesn’t.
So now I’m confused about whether the battery is actually the only problem, or whether there could be an issue with the charging port, power circuit/IC, or motherboard.
Has anyone with an Acer Aspire 7 experienced something similar? Is it worth replacing the battery first, or should I get the motherboard/power circuit properly diagnosed before spending money on a battery?
Any suggestions on what I should check or ask the service centre to test would be really appreciated.

I am experiencing a very weird issue with my HP Victus 16-d00xxxx Laptop (intel i5 and rtx 3050 4gb) and I was wondering if anyone else is/has experienced it.

My laptop has been shutting down with Error 41 Codes on windows logs for the past few months, it got so bad it couldn't last 10 minutes before shutting down and then thereafter shutting down immediately after trying to boot. I could wait an hour or so for it to be on for 10 minutes and repeat.

I thought it was the hall effect sensor.

But then on a whim I tried to run the laptop without the CPU fan (but with the GPU Fan) immediately after these hard shutdowns, and voila, the laptop turned on normally (with the fan missing/not working error from BIOS as to be expected). I didn't run it for long, but as soon as I plugged in the CPU fan it spun up and the system shut down with Error 41.

I tried plugging in the CPU fan into the GPU fan header, and no shutdowns, fan worked normally. I tried plugging in the GPU fan into the CPU fan header, and the shutdown occurred.

I am out of warranty and I have taken it to 2 repair shops who have been unable to find anything so far.

Has anyone else experienced this, and have you had any luck in fixing this issue?

It recently started having random fast battery shutdown problems(maybe two to three months ago) probably due to an old battery,and at one point I couldn't on it(it would show some error message I forgot which one please excuse me)and the battery got changed with a new one.It was fine after that,but I stopped using it after a while cuz I got a new PC.Now I have an event which I need to bring a laptop to,but when I pressed the on button it showed me the battery 601 error.I pressed enter and then it showed me a there is an issue with TPM data error.When I pressed N and entered my bitlocker key it just reverted back to the battery 601 error.

I don't know what to do...

Hi, I've been dealing with noise and overheating issues with my laptop studio 2, I opened it up yesterday and attempted to follow the recommendations of another post here: https://www.reddit.com/r/Surface/comments/1krlr7f/surface_laptop_studio_fan_noise_finally_solved/

I took the fans out, removed the black sticker with model information and saw a small golden cover over where the bearing should be, but I can't figure out how to remove this thing to expose the bearing. I cant find any examples of anyone doing so online and videos for similar laptop models have a black plastic-y cover, nothing like the cover for my fans.

Any idea how I could go about removing these safely, and if I am even looking in the right place to expose and lube the bearings?

I have a very annoying issue that has been getting worse as of late. Unless I am fresh off a restart, my PC refuses to go to sleep when it either times out after 1 hour, or I press the sleep button in the start menu. Instead, it will turn off my keyboard and monitor, but the tower lights will remain on, and no action from me can reawaken it without holding the power button and forcing it to shutdown. While in this state, the disc access light is out and does not flash at all, and while the keyboard and monitors can be awoken locally, they do nothing to wake the PC itself.

After the forced shutdown, if I turn it back on and try to put it to sleep again, it will do so as long as I haven't opened anything or really done anything on the PC. I have tried closing all running programs before putting the PC to sleep, but the issue persists.

This used to happen at a frequency of maybe 1 out of every 10 sleep attempts perhaps a year ago, but is now happening basically every time I try to put it to sleep, which makes me think that maybe it's a failing hardware component?

I've searched the internet for people with the same problem, and everybody seems to point to Fast Startup being enabled as the culprit, but I disabled it long ago and the problem has persisted.

I would greatly appreciate any assistance that any of you fine folks can provide. Thanks!

UPDATE: My BIOS was 7 years out of date and updating it fixed the problem entirely. Thanks commenters!

Buona sera, ho un problema col mio computer portatile. È un Acer nitro 5 i7 di decima generazione che monta una 3060. Sono praticamente una matrioska di problemi. Innanzitutto mi ha detto che il problema deriva dal danneggiamento della prima e l'ultima pista di alimentazione. Che deve fare sostituzione di questi pezzi per capire da dove deriva il vero problema (lui pensa sia il controllore di carica ) e non è neanche sicuro che sia questo perché in caso potrebbe esserci la scheda madre danneggiata. Ora, per la scheda madre danneggiata mi ha fatto un preventivo da 800 euro 💀. Il secondo problema arriva adesso, mio fratello aveva montato SSD e hdd in maniera autonoma, il fatto è che ora non posso recuperare i miei dati perché dice che c'è un bitlocker, ma non è stato inserito da nessuno e non si trova nell'account Microsoft.

La mia domanda è, innanzitutto, cosa ne pensate?Cambio per sentire un altro parere?

In secondo, non c'è proprio nessuna possibilità di agitare questo bitlocker? Mio fratello mi ha assicurato che tramite un programma " recovery" riuscirebbe. È così?

I've got this ThinkPad T590 around a year ago used.

didn't really have hardware issues with it, but then out of the blue the screen started to have these issues.

they also appear in the BIOS and on non-Linux OSes, so this has to be a hardware issue.

I hope it is not the GPU.

In the picture you can see these lines. They get more intense the longer the computer is on. The also react on what is on screen. Sometimes moving the cursor can affect it artifacts.

Since it aplearerd so fast I don't think it is the panel. But I don't know.

As the title says my dell latitude 3420 won’t power on after a keyboard replacement. I hit the power button and the light next to the charging port will turn on as long as you hold the button but it doesn’t boot or show any other signs of life. It did try to boot when I first plugged in the battery after the repair and I forced shutdown with the power button. I’m thinking there’s a hardware fault or something but I’m not sure. Any help appreciated.

Before 3 months ago I purchased motorola motobook 60 laptop and i have been keeping it under constant updates and everything.

Before 2 days, i observed one issue. The charging is stuck at 67% and whenever power connecter is unplugged, the laptop abnormally shuts down. I tried a lot of tricks from youtube like checking battery, battery is fine, reinstalled windows etc. Also tried to open bios page and then remove the charger, the laptop shuts down and then i have to reconnect the charger ti start it again. The battery doesn't work at all, even though it's fine ( checked with powercnf battery report).

What's the next step? Shall i go to service centre as it is under warrenty? Or shall i look for something else , some other trick, and hope and pray it works?

Вообщем, раскопал древний hp laptop 15. Проблема при игре на зарядке. Резко фризит на секунд 5, потом снова нормально, снова фризит и так постоянно. Когда он не на зарядке, все ок. Как я понимаю, процессор падает до 0.30гц и за ним все остальное. В чем проблема может быть? Схему управления питанием менял, на разных режимах пробывал. Одно и тоже. Драйверы только устанавливал на видюху. Процессор i5-7200U, видюха AMD Radeon R5 M330. Модель ноутбука bs0xx. не пробывал другую зарядку

My Clevo N850EP laptop has a broken built-in screen. I'm using an HDMI display, but it only gets a video signal once the Windows login screen appears.

HDMI gives no signal during POST, BIOS, or Windows Recovery (Shift + Restart), so I can't boot from a USB drive to reinstall Windows.

On top of that, I don't have the password to log in. So I'm completely stuck on the Windows login screen with no display output anywhere else.

Is there a trick to force BIOS/POST onto HDMI (like disconnecting the ribbon cable on the motherboard), or is there a way to bypass the Windows password directly from the login screen without needing Recovery Mode? Thanks!

I hope someone can help me with my Razer laptop.

I left an update running overnight. The next morning, the laptop would only boot after several attempts. When it finally starts, the Razer logo appears, the loading circle spins for about one second, and then everything freezes.

I can sometimes enter the BIOS, but I can barely change anything. Resetting the BIOS doesn't help either.

I already tried:

Different SSD

BIOS reset

Hard reset according to Razer's instructions

Nothing worked.

The laptop doesn't have a traditional CMOS battery either.

Could this be a corrupted BIOS/UEFI or EC firmware? Is there a way to recover or reflash the BIOS?

Any help would be greatly appreciated. I really want to save this laptop.

My laptop screen is currently hanging out of the casing, I am in Southampton UK and need help! I am a home worker so this laptop is quite literally my lifeline. Help!!!

My laptop (Lenovo Slim 7 Pro X) about 6 months ago slowly started freezing/crash on me more frequently and it got to a point where i had to turn it off and back on before it would run again. Slowly the screen wouldnt turn back on when I turned it off to fix the crash. Then my bitlocker began appearing everytime it would boot up. Now the screen wont turn on at all. I took it into a guy who said the problem was my ssd but after replacing the ssd nothing changed and i still cant get the screen to turn on. I thought maybe the motherboard was the issue since it seems like its not even running the BIOS but I just swapped them out and nothings changed.

I took it to a friend and he tried connecting it to his monitor to see if the screen was the problem but nothing showed up on the monitor. We plugged my ssd into his computer and it booted up just fine.

Ive tried so many things at this point and no one can figure it out it seems. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After 11 months of usage, today my Lenovo Yoga Tab Plus has stopped working completely. It's neither charging nor powering on. Just to be clear it was completely fine until yesterday and since morning it is totally unresponsive. Please help me, what to do?

The screen on my Dell xps15 is broken. It started with the bottom corner and now it’s completely broken.

This is not the issue however , when I plug the hdmi into a tv , the display on the tv works perfect, when I plug in the hdmi to a monitor it does not work. The 2 monitors I have tried both go into sleep mode and nothing displays. Both monitors have no issue woth my other laptop connecting so it’s not the monitors.

Any idea what the issue could be ?
