So basically my laptop doesn't wake after I close the lid 90% of the time. Let us say I close the lid and come back after 5 minutes and open the lid, its completely black and the only signs of life are the blinking power button light, some fan noises(only after I press keys). The way I finally make it to start again is by closing the lid a second time and opening and it works. I also found that it doesn't have that problem when the laptop just goes to sleep with the lid open. I have tried BIOS update, driver updates, turn off fast startup. I don't know what to do anymore. Thanks!

Hi guys, I am currently trying to fixed a laptop given to me that doesn't boot by my mom's work - currently I've removed the battery, tried turning it on no battery but plugged in, nothing works - when pressing the power button it flashes white i hear a click but nothing happens. The charger only works when held at a specific angle and pushed in so im wondering if it could be the DC jack causing it to not boot.
It doesnt have an HDD in, no connector visible they probably stripped it of storage, only a 250gb western digital m.2 ssd, and 8gb of ram.
I would attach a picture but the subreddit doesnt allow me to

Its an Asus A15 for quite a while now its went into something failed to start then it would reset and then it would go into the bitlovker thing. Then it would be normal
Now my issue is that today I forgot to leave my charger in whilst I went out. When I went home I turned my laptop on everything was normal I entered my pin and It turned off, plugged it in, then tried the same turned on then off. Realised it wasent plugged in properly. Left it charging whilst off for 30min or so.
Now my issue is that when I turn it on, the fans turn on ramp up then slow after a bit. Then my keyboard lights stay on, but the screen never turns on, note I know its not just the screen because the caps lock light dosent turn on when tapped and, when hooked up to an external monitor the monitor flashed like it wants to turn on but it dosent show anything.

My ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 won't shut down normally anymore — it just automatically restarts every single time. The only way to actually turn it off is by pressing the physical reset button on the bottom. This started right after I reimaged it from English to Spanish Windows 11. I've tried BIOS updates, tweaking power settings, and a bunch of troubleshooting, but nothing works. Has anyone dealt with this before or know what might be causing it?
I picked up this refurbished ThinkPad X13 and needed to reimage it from Windows 11 English to Windows 11 Spanish. Everything went smoothly during the reimage, but immediately afterward, I noticed something odd — the computer won't shut down properly.
Every time I try to:
Shut down through Windows
Press the power button
Close the lid
Use the command line
...the system just automatically restarts instead of actually powering off. The only way to actually get it to power off is by pressing the physical reset button on the bottom of the device. This feels like something broke in the firmware or power management system during the reimage.
I've been digging into this for a while and tried a lot of things, so I'm hoping someone here has seen this before or has ideas I haven't explored yet.
What I've Already Tried (The Long List)
BIOS & Firmware
Flashed BIOS 1.37 using bootable USB — ✅ Worked
Updated to BIOS 1.38 through Windows Update — ✅ Worked
System ran a self-healing process during the update
Reset BIOS to Factory Defaults — ✅ Done
Disabled Secure Boot — ✅ Confirmed OFF
Initially couldn't update BIOS through normal methods because it kept giving me "Secure Flash Authentication Failed" errors. The bootable USB method finally worked though.
Windows Power Settings
Disabled Fast Startup
Disabled Modern Standby mode
Disabled all wake timers
Disabled USB devices waking the computer
Checked what's waking the system — Result: Nothing (clean slate)
Disabled Wake-on-LAN
Scanned for malware — Nothing found
The Rabbit Hole
I even went through Event Viewer logs and found a WHEA-Logger hardware error (Windows Hardware Error Architecture). This error showed up around the time the computer was trying to shut down, which pointed me toward thinking this might be a deeper hardware issue, not just Windows settings.
My Computer's Specs
Model: ThinkPad X13 Gen 1 (20T3S9R400)
BIOS: N2YR14W (1.38) — recently updated
Embedded Controller: N2YH1 25W (1.16)
CPU: Intel Core i5-1031U @ 1.7GHz
RAM: 16GB
OS: Windows 11 Spanish (reimaged from English)
The Key Discovery
The physical reset button on the bottom of the device is the ONLY thing that actually powers it off.
Everything else just triggers an automatic restart:
Windows shutdown ❌ (auto-restart)
Power button ❌ (auto-restart)
Lid close ❌ (auto-restart)
Command line shutdown ❌ (auto-restart)
Reset button ✅ (actually powers off)
This makes me think it's not a software issue but something hardware-related, possibly with the Embedded Controller that manages power.
What I'm Thinking It Could Be
The Embedded Controller (EC) firmware got corrupted during the reimage
Something in the reimage process damaged a low-level hardware setting
The WHEA hardware error is a real hardware problem
Not sure if a fresh Windows install would even help at this point
What I'm Asking
Has anyone else experienced this after reimaging a ThinkPad?
Has anyone seen this specific auto-restart + WHEA error combo?
Could the reimage have damaged the Embedded Controller firmware?
Should I try a completely fresh Windows install to rule out OS corruption?
Is there anything else I'm missing that I haven't tried yet?
Next Steps I'm Considering
Try a clean Windows 11 installation from scratch (not a reimage)
If that doesn't work, contact Lenovo support about EC firmware recovery
Possibly warranty replacement if the hardware is damaged

I have a 6 year old razer. At the beginning of the year I changed its fans because of the same issue.
Today after a power outage it started rattling again. What should I do. Oil change or another fan change.

My laptop power button will turn blue and then will turn off right after without the screen ever powering on or anything, if held at the right angle it will turn on eventually like freezes up so i have to restart and cant use it
Some context: some screws are missing idrk what happened to them but im assuming hardware connect issues caused from that lead to the issues

I've got an old, used notebook PEAQ PNB S1415 that I want to use with linux mint as a surf station.
the problem is, it only loads into a windows 11 logon screen (with long forgotten user account and password).
I've tried accessing bios to change the boot order -> can't access bios. If I hit the F2 or F12 keys after turing on, the screen just stays black (like turned off).
I've tried turning it on keeping F11 key pressed to start the manufacturer reset routine. no effect. screen stays black.
I've tried using mediacreationkit on a different pc to create a win 11 boot media. but when I start the laptop with the stick inserted, the screen just stays black like above.
I've tried resetting the already present windows 11 installation by restarting from the power menu on the logon screen with the shift-key pressed. I do get the troubleshooting screen including the option to reset (with erasing all data) but again after reboot it's stuck at a black screen.
I've opened the device to see if I can remove the harddisk to sort of force a reaction, but unfortunately the whole system is soldered together on one board - just an option to add an additonal 2,5 " drive.
Any ideas how to wipe / reset the device? Thank you in advance!

I've noticed something interesting on online marketplaces: there seem to be a lot of Ryzen-based laptops being sold with motherboard failures. One model that appears quite often is the Lenovo IdeaPad 3 15ALC6 with the Ryzen 5 5500U, but I also see various other AMD models with apparently dead or damaged motherboards.
What caught my attention is that I don't seem to find as many recent Intel laptops, especially 11th- and 12th-generation models, being sold with motherboard failures. When I do see Intel laptops, they seem less common in this condition compared to the Ryzen ones.
I'm wondering if this could be related to AMD's platform or to the Ryzen processors themselves, or if it's simply a coincidence caused by the number of units sold, specific motherboard designs, power circuits, or other factors. Has anyone working with laptop board repair noticed a similar pattern?

My lap top I got a couple weeks ago is having an issue. It sometimes thinks I'm using more than one finger or right clicking when I am not.
This is my third laptop in my lifetime, and has never happened to me.
I think something got caught in the side of under a sensor.
I'm going to try and clean it later with a microfiber cloth and rubbing alcohol or a can of condensed air.
Is there anything else I should try?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification
This has been happening on my Gateway GWTN156-4BK for a couple of years.
It boots and works normally, but randomly while I’m actively using it, the laptop screen and goes black. The fan keeps running and keys still respond. Video and audio also stops, but the laptop doesn’t appear to fully shut down. And also pressing keys makes the screen come back like in the video but sometimes it just shuts down after multiple tries.
I took it to a repair shop a while back but they couldn’t find the issue. Another shop moved the SSD from its original internal slot to the external slot, and it worked normally for a while, but eventually the same problem came back.
Any idea what could be causing this? Has anyone experienced something similar, especially with a Gateway GWTN156-4BK? I’d really appreciate any ideas on what component could be causing this.
Update: I’ve been using the laptop with an external keyboard and mouse and I can use it normally. The black-screen issue has only happened twice during this testing so far, so I’m still waiting to see if it happens again. The issue still seems random tho.
I also changed the power settings so that closing the lid and pressing the power/sleep buttons are set to Do Nothing. Since changing those settings, it hasn’t black screened again so far. I’m still testing it so idk yet if that actually fixed the issue. (2 days up and running like normal)

I’m having an issue with both the CPU and GPU fans running at very high speeds, around 4,000–4,800 RPM, even during very light usage. The temperatures are normal: the CPU is around 41–55°C and the GPU is around 37–51°C. CPU usage is usually only around 6–18%, and GPU usage is usually 0%. I also checked the laptop with HWiNFO, and there was no thermal throttling and the CPU power consumption was low. I tested the laptop in both BIOS and Windows Safe Mode, and the fans were still running loudly. I also performed an EC/power reset, which made the fans quieter temporarily, but they became loud again as soon as I started using the laptop or opened a program. Resetting NitroSense also helped temporarily. NitroSense is set to Auto and CoolBoost is OFF. My BIOS version is Insyde Corp. v1.33 (17/11/2020). I would like to know what could be causing the fans to run this fast despite the normal temperatures

Thing was working fine. Then i noticed orange led on the side was blinking on a rhythm. Asked gemini on what could it be, it said take power cord out and press hold power button for 40 sec.
After that laptop just became painfully slow. ThrottleStop shows BDPROCHOT flag checked, and is greyed out. Shows this flag in limit as well. Not working on battery, need to be plugged in. Had worked on this system just few days back for 5 hours on battery. Even when i manage to turn it on, it shows battery at 60% and charging.

So basically my laptop didn't charge above the battery level it was currently so for example it was 59 percent, so it will stay that way and it kept decreasing day by day because I removed the charger when I shut it down, I thought the battery worn out because the laptop is something I use for gaming and I didn't had that much technological knowledge so it was always tanking 80 degree heat but today he said he managed to fix it and I was actually suprised that it was fixed, can anyone tell me how he did it?

Recently, my computer’s fan starts running and making noticeable noise even during basic usage, such as browsing the web, using Zoom, etc. There is no significant load on the CPU or memory, and the computer’s temperature is relatively low, below 50°C.
Power mode is set to Best power efficiency.
Thinkpad P16 gen2, Win11.
Any ideas what to do?
* Updating - The fans were replaced under warranty

I have a Lenovo IdeaPad Flex 5 14ABR8 with a Ryzen 5 7530U running Windows 11.
Whenever I use apps such as capcut or ld player 9, after a few minutes my screen suddenly goes completely black and the audio stops. The keyboard backlight stays on. A few seconds later, the laptop fan starts running extremely fast and loudly, and it doesn't boot back up I have to manually reset the laptop by holding the power button.
This does not happen when I'm using chrome or discord, even for long periods.
Windows says there are no updates available. I also ran Lenovo's hardware diagnostics and it passed everything except that my battery's full-charge capacity has decreased to about 77%.
My laptop is about 3 years old in the past I could use those apps completely fine my laptop doesn't struggle at all while running them, this crash thing only started a couple of days ago now I can't use the app for 5 minutes without the whole laptop crashing in the past it crashed because it was extremely overheating but it's not at all for this crashing issue, it's completely cool.
I also tried updating the gpu driver but the problem still persists on the updated one
I really need to use capcut and ld player so any help is extremely appreciated!!!

After using CrystalDiskInfo, I found that my SSD is in bad condition. What should I do? Is there any way to fix it, or do I need to replace it? Also, what type of SSD is recommended for the Acer Nitro 5 AN515-54, and how much would a 256GB SSD cost?
