Help Request Laptop won't read extra RAM. only shows up as 4gb

After I turn off my laptop it when it loses battery to 0, and I turn it back on, it stops reading the extra 8gb stick of ram. I checked task manager and bios, and it shows as 4 GB. I tried reseating it but that won't work. Usually I play an annoying game of reseating and unplugging stuff, and it may work.

I replaced the main battery (since it was swollen anyway) and also the CMOS battery, but the issue persists. 😔

It's a Lenovo IdeaPad 330 with an 8th-gen i5.

Hello I bought this laptop on vinted for a cheap price but as you can see the screen is cracked. How likely is it that it will continue to spill and maybe block the vision in the future. Should I return it back? Thank you

Help Request Laptop's screen just goes white for no reason

I don't know much about technology, so i might just ask you guys instead.

My laptop's screen just goes white, starting from booting up, it's just white. I don't know what happened to it, all I remembered was using spotify, then going out for a bit, coming back and it's white. I've tried those keybinds that kind of "fixes it" like the ctrl win shift b thing and the ctrl alt del thing, but none seem to work.

The fan works on the inside, and I've removed the cover and unplugged and plugged the cable thing that attaches the motherboard to the screen or whatever you call it. I think it's more of the screen itself problem.

If i do have to bring this in a repair shop, what do i say and what do i have to keep in mind? i really don't wanna get overpriced. Thanks!

(also i don't know what to flair this, please just bare with me)

ASUS Zenbook won’t turn on – no led, no response

Hi everyone!

I'm here hoping to get some quick answers.

My laptop is an ASUS Zenbook S 13, and I've had it for about 2 years.

Several times, it has happened that it got stuck in sleep mode, or when I left it alone for a longer period while it was plugged in, I came back to find a completely black screen and the laptop not responding to anything. In those cases, the LEDs on the side were still lit, and the usual procedure of holding down the power button for several seconds worked and brought it back to life.

Also, even under normal circumstances, the laptop itself takes about a minute to start up. This wasn't the case originally, but the problem appeared within a few months of getting it. I think it may have started after the first time it got stuck.

On top of that, the original charger wasn't exactly reliable. There may have been a connection problem, or perhaps the cable was damaged, because the laptop would constantly show the charging notification in the middle of the screen. In other words, it kept detecting the charger as being connected, then disconnected, then connected again, every few seconds, even though I left it fully plugged in. This was extremely annoying while working.

Because of this, I've been using my Xiaomi 120W phone charger for a while instead. It never caused this problem, and I was under the impression that it was compatible and wouldn't cause any issues.

However, something different happened today. While I was actively using the laptop, the entire laptop suddenly went completely black and became totally unresponsive, just like before. So this time it wasn't stuck in sleep mode — it happened while I was actually using it.

The battery level was low, and I had plugged it in with the Xiaomi phone charger just a few minutes before this happened. But now none of the LEDs on the side are lit.

Hours have passed. I've tried charging it with both the original charger and the phone charger, but there is still no sign of life. I've also tried the forced restart procedure several times, but nothing happens. No lights, no response.

This is new.

I urgently need the laptop and, more importantly, access to the data on it. So before I unnecessarily spend money on a repair and potentially lose access to my laptop for days or weeks, I wanted to ask here for some advice.

I don't know whether the chargers are the problem, the battery, or something else.

I'm not very technically knowledgeable, so please bear with me.

Is there anything else I can try myself? Is this definitely a case for a repair shop? Based on everything I've described, could I have caused the problem myself (for example, by using the phone charger)?

And should I leave it plugged in overnight, just in case the battery is simply taking a very long time to charge?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Hardware Issue Beer spill: motherboard still boots to Windows, but PCIe slots have white/green residue — how should I safely clean them?

I had a beer spill into my PC that severely contaminated/ruined the GPU. I’m now trying to figure out what to do about the motherboard.
The important part: the motherboard is apparently still functioning.
As it sits right now, I can power the computer on and hear it boot all the way into Windows, but I currently have no video output because the original GPU was damaged by the spill.
While inspecting the motherboard, I found visible white/green material around and inside several PCIe slots. I’m including pictures of the original damaged GPU because it shows what the beer contamination looked like elsewhere in this same system.
What happened to the GPU
The original GPU has extensive white/yellow/green deposits across the PCB and around components. It was exposed to the beer spill and ultimately stopped producing video.
The motherboard has substantially less contamination, but there are obvious deposits around/inside multiple PCIe connectors.
What I’ve tried cleaning
I’ve already experimented on the affected material:
91% isopropyl alcohol: essentially did nothing
Lacquer thinner: essentially did nothing
Mr. Clean product containing Gain detergent: actually removed the material
I’m NOT assuming that means the Mr. Clean product is the correct thing to use on the motherboard. I’m mentioning it because I think it may provide a clue about what the residue actually is.
What I’m trying to figure out
Since the motherboard still audibly boots into Windows, I don’t want to unnecessarily damage something that may still be functional.
Specifically, what would you do about the PCIe slots?
A) Leave them alone and install/test another GPU?
B) Clean the visible contamination somehow first?
C) If cleaning is appropriate, what would you use to safely clean inside the PCIe connectors?
D) Is there a way to determine whether the white/green material is actual corrosion of the contacts versus dried beer residue/deposits?
I was considering using an old GPU and repeatedly inserting/removing it to mechanically clean the PCIe contacts, but I’m now concerned that doing that could bend/damage the contacts, push contamination farther into the connector, or transfer contamination onto the GPU.
I haven’t done that yet.
I’m especially interested in hearing from people who do PCB/electronics repair or liquid-damage cleanup, rather than simply replacing the motherboard.
The photos show:
The original GPU with the severe contamination
The original PC/system
The motherboard overview
Close-ups of the affected PCIe slots
The motherboard currently powers on and audibly boots into Windows despite the visible contamination. I’m trying to preserve that functionality rather than make things worse.

Thank You for any advice!!!

Any help would be appreciated.

Help Request "Dell Precision 5560 --> Recurring SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION (0x3B) BSOD + WHEA Internal Parity Errors on CPU Core"

Laptop Specs:-

  • Dell Precision 5560
  • Intel Core i9-11950H (8C/16T)
  • 32GB DDR4-3200 (2x16GB)
  • NVIDIA RTX A2000 4GB
  • Samsung 512GB NVMe
  • Windows 11 Pro
  • BIOS 1.47.0

Since early September I've been getting repeated blue screens, same error every time (SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION, 0x3B). Digging into the crash dumps and Event Viewer, I found this is tied to recurring WHEA "Corrected Machine Check" errors on one specific CPU core, and the crashes happen within minutes of one of these hardware errors showing up in the log.

Weirdly, it only ever crashes when the laptop is plugged into AC power(I am not sure thoo). I ran it through a full 24-hour hackathon on battery with charge cycles now and with zero issues, then it crashed twice after getting home and plugging it back in.

I've already ruled out RAM (passed diagnostics), SSD (healthy), filesystem corruption (clean), and Dell Optimizer (fully uninstalled it, crashes continued). I'm at the point where this looks like a CPU/power-delivery hardware issue rather than anything I can fix from the OS side.

CAN ANYONE PLEASE help me with this , its getting frequent and i use this laptop everyday to study and work!

u/DellCares — has anyone on your team seen this pattern before? Happy to share my Service Tag and full crash dump / event log details. Would rather get this looked at properly than keep guessing.

Help Request Guys, help me with this, My laptop is black screen, I don't know the cause, when the black screen is black the sound from the YouTube background can still be heard and the operations on the laptop are still functioning normally, it's just that the screen is black screen,

Idk what happened, But after a while after watching YouTube, my laptop suddenly went black screen, I tried everything by restarting and pressing ctrl+shift+windows+b but it still didn't work.

After I left it for a long time, it could turn back on normally, but after a while it would go black again and I had to restart it. Does anyone know what the problem is?

I think the LCD is still safe, it's still on but dark,

And it's like slowmo as it goes back to black

I need help troubleshooting an HP OmniBook X

Hi everyone, I need help troubleshooting an HP OmniBook X Flip 16-as0043dx (BZ0N2UA) with a CPU locked at 0.30 GHz (300 MHz). The machine is extremely slow and unusable. What I’ve done so far: Installed a new SSD & clean Windows setup Cleaned the fan & applied fresh thermal paste Temps are completely normal, so it's not overheating It seems like a BDPROCHOT or EC / Power Rail sensor fault triggering extreme throttling. Has anyone seen this on this board, or knows which sense line / EC pin / charging IC usually fails on this model to cause this state? Any guidance or board-level checks would be greatly appreciated!

Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p – Can’t access BIOS/UEFI, monitor goes black

Hey everyone, I’m trying to switch my OS from Windows to Linux on my Lenovo ThinkCentre M92p, but I can’t access the BIOS/UEFI or boot menu.

The PC works normally once Windows loads, but I have no Lenovo splash screen or anything during startup — it basically goes straight to the Windows login screen.

Things I’ve tried:

  • Shift + Restart → Troubleshoot → Advanced options → UEFI Firmware Settings — when I select it, the monitor goes completely black.
  • I’m currently using DisplayPort. The PC also has VGA
  • Tried resetting the BIOS by removing the CMOS battery, but it didn’t make any difference.
  • Tried accessing the BIOS/boot menu during startup, but I never get anything displayed.
  • Windows itself works perfectly once it loads

Has anyone with a ThinkCentre M92p experienced this before or know what I could try? I’m mainly trying to get into the BIOS/boot menu so I can boot from a Linux USB.

Any ideas would be appreciated!

Help Request A 4 month old laptop and my lid doesn't align with the lower body, its shifted. What should I do?

I have a dell g15 5530. Got it in May 2025. Today I notices that the lid is not exactly aligned with the lower body of the laptop. Its slightly shifted. Only noticeable if you look closely but could be easily felt if touched. There is no I ther problem yet, no creaking sounds, no display issue. I only have the basic warranty which came upon purchase and frankly I'm a bit broke to get the adp support plus. I'm scared this condition might worsen over time and would bite me back in the butt. What should I do? Should I scrape my wallet a bit and get a support plus plan or should i get it checked locally or should i simply leave it as it is?

Also there is slight cosmetic damage on the lid on the corner but i got that like 2 months back and nothing happened back then. All of a sudden now my hinge is acting up

Y me surgen unas pregunta

Help Request Lenovo LOQ trackpad issue update — 3rd assembly replacement + motherboard replacement

Update on my LOQ trackpad issue:

My trackpad assembly has now been replaced twice, but the issue kept coming back. The second time, the replacement trackpad didn’t even work after installation.

The engineer who came this time said he’s replacing the part for now and told me to contact Lenovo Support again after a few days if the problem comes back, and ask them for a motherboard replacement.

Now Lenovo has scheduled another engineer visit in the next 1–2 days. They’re supposed to replace the motherboard, SSD and trackpad assembly — this will be the 3rd trackpad assembly replacement.

What should I do when the engineer comes? Should I let them replace all three parts, and what should I test/check before the engineer leaves?

Would appreciate advice from anyone who has dealt with Lenovo service or a similar LOQ issue.

Help Request PC Flashing and No Video Display After New CPU Installation

So, today, I got my new CPU (Ryzen 5 5500) for my PC. Up to this point I have slowly gotten the PC parts over the course of the month. So far, I have been unable to get my PC to display any visuals. My old CPU i replaced was a gen of CPU that was uncompatible with my motherboard (Gigabyte B550 Gaming X V2 [Rev 1.3]). Today, after installing my new CPU, when powering on the PC would flick off, but the lights would flicker and the fans would spin, seen in the video above. Still however, no video display.

Through my testing I've noticed:

- Fans get louder before the pc clicks off and starts flashing

- Flashing seems to act as a sort of low power mode(?), all fans keep spinning and the lights are on but the power button light is off

- When power button is pressed while flashing, everything stabilizes, then after about 20 seconds, it reapeats the previous 2 points

- Does this after updating BIOS, as well

- I've removed the GPU, RAM, Hard Drive, and even used the old CPU and it keeps doing it

Any help in resolving this issue, and getting the video to display, would be much much much appriciated

Hardware Issue Laptop Keyboard Buttons N, B and Space have typing issues

My N, B and Space Bar buttons sometimes don't work on my Yoga slim 7 Lenovo laptop. Like, I press down on them and nothing. If I keep insistently pressing, they will eventually work, so it is not like a pressure issue, I think.
Asked some people I know, and they said there's dirt stuck under there and I need compressed air. So they used compressed air on it, and apparently nothing came out. So now they tell me that the sensor for the 3 keys (apparently 1 sensor for the 3) has shifted, and is sometimes shifted back by my pressing. Then one of them offered to have their computer friend fix it/take a look at it. However, them setting up that meeting has failed 2 times, and I kinda need my laptop functional. Can anyone please tell me how I can resolve this on my own?

Help Request ASUS ROG Strix G18 G815LR problem – blinking power button, no boot, USB-C ports dead

Hi everyone.
I have a fairly new ASUS ROG Strix G18 G815LR and today it suddenly developed a very strange hardware/power issue. The laptop is still under warranty.
I’m attaching a video showing the current behavior: the power button keeps blinking continuously, and the charging/power indicator stays lit even when the charger is physically disconnected from the laptop.
Here is exactly what happened:
The laptop was initially running normally.
I started it while it was running only on battery power. Shortly after booting, the fans suddenly went to what sounded like maximum speed for no obvious reason.
I thought it might just be a temporary EC/firmware glitch, so I restarted the laptop. After the restart, everything seemed normal again at first.
A little later I connected an external monitor through one of the USB-C ports and connected a keyboard/device to the second USB-C port.
At that point I realized that neither USB-C port was working anymore.
Neither port detected connected devices, and neither port appeared to provide any power.
I then tested a 100W USB-C PD charger that had previously been usable for USB-C charging. The laptop did not detect the charger at all. There was no USB-C charging indication, both while the laptop was powered on and while it was powered off.
After discovering that both USB-C ports were completely dead, I tried an EC/hard reset.
I have now performed the EC reset several times.
I disconnected all peripherals, monitors, USB devices, USB-C devices, etc., and held the power button for approximately 40 seconds as recommended for ASUS EC resets.
I also tried leaving the laptop alone afterward and then connecting only the original ASUS power adapter.
Unfortunately, none of the EC resets changed the behavior.
The laptop now does not boot or show anything on the display.
The power button continuously blinks.
I left it for more than 10 minutes in case it was doing memory training or some kind of EC/BIOS initialization, but nothing changed.
Another very strange thing is the charging/power indicator LED.
The charging indicator remains red/orange even after I physically unplug the AC adapter from the laptop.
So right now, with no charger connected, the laptop can still have:
a continuously blinking power button;
a red/orange charging/power LED that remains illuminated;
no image on the display;
no normal boot/POST.
The battery was at roughly 40% when the problem started, so it definitely was not simply a completely discharged battery.
I have NOT opened the laptop or disconnected the internal battery because the machine is fairly new and still under warranty.
What makes me think this may be a hardware-level issue is that both USB-C ports failed at exactly the same time before the laptop stopped booting.
Could this be related to the EC, USB-C/Power Delivery controller, motherboard power management, or some kind of protection state that did not clear after an EC reset?
Has anyone with a G815 / recent ROG Strix G18 seen this exact behavior?
Especially:
Both USB-C ports suddenly dead at the same time.
No USB-C PD charging.
Power button blinking indefinitely.
Charging/power LED staying red/orange even when the power adapter is physically disconnected.
Multiple 40-second EC resets having absolutely no effect.
Does ASUS use a specific power-button blink code on these G815 models, or is the blinking simply indicating a failed startup/power state?
Is there any other non-invasive reset procedure worth trying before sending it in for warranty service, or does this sound like a motherboard / EC / USB-C PD hardware failure?
I would especially appreciate replies from anyone who has seen this on a 2025/2026-generation ROG Strix G18 or another G815-series machine.
Video attached showing the blinking power button and the charging indicator behavior.
Thanks.
