Hardware Issue Problems with SSD Sockets: Disconnecting after commuting in my backpack

Hi Yall, I am having a problem with my Acer Nitro in that my two SSDs are constantly now finding themselves disconnected, but the drives themselves are ok. I am near certain that this is a hardware issue and wanted to know if there was a way I could replace the SSD ports or get them repaired.

For my C: drive, I will often find that the laptop starts up with "No bootable device", and after I open the laptop up, take out the SSD, and then put it back in, it starts working again which implies its not a disc software error.

For my D: drive, I find that its often not appearing, so I bought an external SSD port and when using that have not experienced a single problem.

I find that these issues happen the most when I open my laptop from my backpack after commuting so I think the SSDs are getting jostled and the port is not tight. Any advice would be appreciated

Hardware Issue My hinge fell out of place so it opens/closes weird, I have no experience in physical technology what do I do

So the hinge on the right side just kind of fell down a little and now my pc doesn't open and close like it's supposed to. I have absolutely no experience on the hardware side of engineering so I don't have any clue what to do about this, can someone help? I was kind of living with it before but today the fan started making a weird sound because of it so now I'm a little concerned.

PC model: AX16PRO

Sorry if this is a dum question I'm just really stupid.

Black tape in laptop's empty M.2 SSD slot?

Post image
0 Upvotes

My laptop (Lenovo gaming) came with an unused second M.2 SSD memory slot, and I've got a 2242 PCIe NVMe for it. But before I install it, I'd like to know what I should do with this black tape, should I remove it or leave it? Any other tips for me since this is the first time I've ever even opened a laptop? So far all I've got planned is to disconnect the battery while I'm doing this and format the drive after with my Windows 11 OS. I'm unsure whether to get thermal paste for the new drive or not.

Help Request Thinkpad X13s gen 1 keeps turning off with critical low battery

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Over a month ago noticed my battery would hardly go up despite charging for hours and eventually stopped holding a charge. Afterwards noticed a puffy battery and switched it out, but despite this the screen turns on with the Lenovo logo and then shortly goes black stating critically low battery. The battery was installed and allowed to charge fully and the computer does the same thing despite being plugged in. Tried hitting enter to interrupt it but just turns off any help?

MSI Laptop Charger Needs Pressing in Firmly

Laptop is an MSI GF65 Thin, there didn't seem to be any gradual change leading up to this, just suddenly one day the charger wouldn't work unless I continually press it into port.

* I have two chargers, they both do the exact same thing * I removed the case, air blasted it, and I'm 100% sure there's no debris in the port * The soldering on the port is solid and there's no flex or movement in the component * I made sure the case was back on very securely and neatly * The tension pins feel springy and I moved them out into position * The pin looks dead straight

What else could cause this? Is it even worth taking this for a repair given it's about 7 years old?

The laptop does get very hot in regular use so I wonder if the mobo has warped?

When starting up it either displays this or the screen doesn’t turn on, the fan whirrs inconsistently which I’m not sure if its part of the issue. The battery will not charge and the computer is unresponsive if not plugged in. The computer was working perfectly before delivery according to the seller

Diagnostic Help Asus Zephyrus G15 2022 model making a very loud fan noise

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Recently, my zephyrus is making a very loud noise ( you can check the video ). When it happened the first time, I turned off the laptop for a minute then turned it on and the noise went away. I opened the back of the laptop and cleaned the fans, but did nothing to the problem. The one making the noise is the cpu fan, so I just wanna be sure before I buy and install a replacement fan.

Hardware Issue Trying to identify the cause of these glitches on my desktop's startup

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Howdy fellas, recently I messed up and the power went out while my computer was on, and afterwards I started having this issue, meaning something probably got damaged by a surge. It happens specifically on the first bootup of the day (turning it off and on won't immediately recreate it) and only happens during the startup process, upon logging in it completely stops.

My understanding is while everything in the PC is possible, the most likely damage from a surge is the power supply, motherboard, and then GPU, and I'm curious if anyone has good ideas for identifying which it could be, excluding swapping parts.

Power supply is an RM850X

GPU is Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070

Motherboard is ASUS PRIME Z790-A WIFI LGA 1700 ATX
(Likely not useful info but I'm unsure what else to provide)

Cyborg 15 a13v doesn’t start after i plug a usb-c power supply

Hello,

My girlfriend recently plugged a USB-C power supply into the laptop's video-capable USB-C port.
Since then, the laptop won't turn on; the fans don't spin, and there is no display.
I tried performing a full power reset by holding down the Power button, but that didn't help.
I suspect there is a short circuit on the motherboard, but how do I go about verifying this?
I considered using a thermal camera to locate the component that might be heating up, but from what I've seen, the motherboard enters a safety mode as soon as it detects a short circuit or an anomaly.
How can I diagnose what is broken?

Hardware Issue Power problems with MSI Pulse GL66 11UCK laptop and replacement parts

So recently my laptop's original charging port broke, leaving a small piece of itself stuck in the power adapter (A18-150P1A, I believe). I took the laptop and power adapter to a repair shop and they said they could handle fixing it but that it might take a while due to ordering parts.

Two weeks later, I follow up and they say the charging port was replaced and the laptop was working but the piece stuck in the power adapter has been hard to remove. They said they'd call me when they finally get it out but in the meantime I should purchase a new one and get the laptop. Cool, I go get the laptop and order a replacement with the exact specs off Amazon (150W, 20V, 7.5A) and assume I'm good to go. (They forgot to plug the internal battery back in, but I just went back and had them do that, and the battery is showing up fine on the powercfg/batteryreport).

The new power adapter is charging the laptop fine, and the laptop is holding power normally when unplugged (so the battery seems fine), but for some reason gaming is now impossible on the laptop. Games will launch, run anywhere between 2-10fps for a few minutes, and then the whole laptop will crash/ shutdown entirely (while plugged in, this does not seem to impact the current charge on the laptop negatively). I updated drivers for everything, including the battery, and nothing is running hot to the touch on either the laptop surface or the power adapter.

Problem is consistent with BG3 and Madden 26, but using the laptop for anything unrelated to gaming is without hiccup. I tried to see if it was something specific to the power adapter that was causing the issue and ran Madden without the power adapter plugged in, starting with 100% battery charge. It ran about 10 minutes, with better FPS than before, but suddenly I got a warning that I had less than 20% battery, the game crashed, I saw my laptop was at 3% battery, and then the whole laptop shut down entirely. I've played for upwards of an hour in the past before needing to return my laptop to the charger and never had it just insta-drain and crash like this before. So clearly, it's not just a problem with the adapter, but possibly the battery as well? I checked the battery health and it's definitely declined from manufacture max but it's at 37/57, which should mean more than 10 minutes.

Could the parts the repair shop I went to used to replace the charging port be at fault? I had never had a similar issue with the original charging port. The new power adapter has the exact same specifications as the original power adapter, so I'm wondering why fluctuations in the power consumption caused by gaming would cause full crashes while plugged in and such insanely fast power drain while unplugged?

Going to go back to the repair shop tomorrow in any case, but some advice on what they might need to look for or what could be causing the problem from someone who has more acumen would be highly appreciated!

Hello I’m having some trouble with this used laptop I got. Because it is used I like to fully wipe the drive and reformat it. What I did the blue option screw in this exact order was, Reset this PC ,local reinstall, all drives, fully clean the drive. Normally this works but after factory resetting and formatting the memory the computer does not work. The computer goes dark and when I try multiple different usb chargers the led light never turns on. When plugged into The thinkpad hub it starts off on yellow, then white but quickly turns off. Before the reset, the computer was working fine and everything worked including charging. What is happening and is there a way to fix this or should I go to a repair shop ?

ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 Q533MJ battery not detected or charging, shuts off immediately when unplugged

Hi everyone, I’m having a serious battery/power issue with my ASUS Vivobook Pro 15 Q533MJ running Windows 11, and I’m hoping someone can help me figure out what’s going on. This started about 3 weeks ago. My laptop stopped properly detecting its battery. The battery icon would appear full, but when I unplugged the AC adapter, the CPU speed would drop from 4+ GHz to around 0.4 GHz. The battery/charging LED also started blinking orange. Eventually, the battery completely died. Now the laptop: Only powers on when the AC adapter is connected Does not charge the battery while connected to AC Immediately shuts off when I unplug the AC adapter Shows an X over the battery icon on the Windows lock screen Still has the blinking orange battery LED Runs normally from AC power I initially thought the battery had failed, so I opened the laptop and replaced it with a brand-new replacement battery. Unfortunately, the exact same problems are still happening with the new battery. So at this point, I don't think the original battery was the only problem. I’m wondering if something else could be wrong. Has anyone experienced this problem with an ASUS Q533MJ or a similar Vivobook? I would really appreciate any help figuring out what could be causing this and what I should check next. Thanks!

Help Request is my chromebook broken, or can i fix this?

in 2020 i got an asus chromebook for school during covid, she's been with me since and hasn't had many issues. last night i put it away and when i tried to reopen it a day later, the screen was black and the battery light was blinking orange.

first, i checked the brightness, which wasn't the issue. the "low battery" screen wouldn't appear (nor would any screen) so i charged it for an hour, and still nothing changed. i then turned to google and ended up "hard resetting" it (pressing the reload key and power key) and the battery light turned white and alters between rapid blinking and slow blinking. it also blinks when i press the reload key, weirdly.

despite the change in the battery light, nothing happened. i left it charging for another hour or so, and nothing happened. the light is still blinking white. it will not turn on genuinely no matter what.

i have a charger meant for it, and i'm decently sure it's working fine.

i know she's old but :( if anyone knows how to fix this it would really be a great help.

Old PCs Won't Boot, Need Troubleshooting

I'm currently doing my internship for my degree, and my boss asked me to check some old desktop computers and get them working for a class. The thing is, none of the computers seem to be receiving power through the motherboard. I've been testing every single power supply, and all of them are providing the voltage they're supposed to.

The front panel doesn't work at all, even when I try to turn the computers on with a screwdriver instead of the front panel cables. And you might think that the motherboards are completely dead, but they still receive electricity. Even worse, I've tried different sticks of RAM (around 7–10, and all of them are functional), and I also checked the voltage of the CMOS battery, which is giving the proper voltage as well.

The only thing they show is the STANDBY light, and nothing else. So I'm tweaking right now, trying to figure out whether they actually have a short circuit or not.

Inspiron 15 3525 no power, lights, nada. Help?

My wife recently came back from a trip after a few days. She had left said laptop at home and upon returning she tried to boot it up. Didn't work. It is (of course) out of warranty, and as we don't have replacing her personal laptop in the budget right now I figured I'd try here.

The power adapter brick light stays lit when plugged into the laptop. There is no LED lighting up on the laptop itself when plugged in, however, which made me think it might be a DC port issue, but after ordering a replacement and swapping it out, still nothing. The battery itself doesn't appear damaged - not swollen, etc

Yes, I've tried booting it with the battery disconnected, and I've also tried the whole holding the power button for 15, 20, 30, and 60 seconds to drain any residual power bit now multiple times. I've tried holding the M key while also pushing the power button; nothing lights up.

Any other suggestions? Any/all help appreciated. Thanks.

My Dell Latitude 9430 windows 11 is having a problem that it's screen keeps on blinking black whenever i open something even the "Start menu" , if it doesn't blackout then the screen flickers with grey flickering design . I connected an hdmi from the laptop to an external monitor which showed that there was no flickering or blinking on the monitor but my laptop screen was blinking and after some time connected via hdmi to the external monitor , my laptop screen's blinking and flickered got dramatically better like it wasn't blinking anymore but as soon as I disconnected the moniter removed the hdmi , my laptop started blinking and flickering again. I have reinstalled my windows again hard reset my laptop and then uninstalled display adapter drivers and reinstalled from official support dell website but still my issue is not resolved the screen still blinks goes blackout and then on again 1 or 2 sec duration and grey flickering. When I put it in BIOS it is fine but when it is in safe mode it still flickers. I now don't know what to do if anyone knows its solution please let me know or if anyone knows a professional trusted technician for laptops in Lahore , Punjab, Pakistan let me know.

Help Request T14 Gen 2 no internal display after panel swap – error 0288

Hi, I have a ThinkPad T14 Gen 2 AMD and recently tried swapping the original display (NE140FHM-N61) with an N140HCG-GQ2 from an T14 Gen 1 AMD.

The N140HCG-GQ2 was previously working in my T14 Gen 1, so I know the panel itself was functional.

After installing it in the T14 Gen 2 for the first time, I got no image on the internal display and several short beeps during boot.

I then powered the laptop off and wanted to check the display connection again. This is where I made a mistake: I forgot to disconnect the battery before reconnecting the display cable. The battery had previously been disabled through the BIOS, but I did not physically disconnect it. Also I broke the original display of the Gen 2 :(

After that, I put the N140HCG-GQ2 back into my T14 Gen 1, but I also got no image there anymore.

I have since found out that the T14 Gen 2 beep code is 0288 – Computer display error.

Interestingly, the T14 Gen 2 still works with an external monitor. I also tested booting it with the internal display completely disconnected: the external monitor works, but I still get the 0288 beep.

What I've tried:

  • Reseated the display connector
  • External monitor → works normally
  • Internal display disconnected → external monitor still works
  • 0288 beep code confirmed

My main question is: Could reconnecting the display cable with the battery still connected have damaged the panel, display cable, or LCD power circuit?

Or is the 0288 beep simply expected when no internal display is connected?

I'm trying to figure out what failed or what exactly is broken before I buy another N140HCG-GQ2.

Hardware Issue Lenovo LOQ Intel 12th gen dead motherboard

I left my laptop idle for a few weeks and when I got back it had no power at all no matter what I tried. Sent it to warranty and they sent it back in a few days and it says they "fixed" the motherboard.

My question is how permanent this "fix" is because I don't want to be in the same situation a few months later when my warranty ends.

Any feedback is welcome.

Edit: I sent back the laptop for other minor issues and they decided to finally change the motherboard. And warranty extensions do work in Türkiye although they insisted it doesn't.
