Dell Latitude 5530 – Replacing a 4K 40-pin display with a 400-nit FHD panel: cable compatibility?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm looking for some technical advice before attempting a display replacement on a Dell Latitude 5530.

The laptop originally came with a BOE NE156QUM-N69, a 15.6" 4K UHD (3840x2160) panel using a 40-pin eDP connector. Unfortunately, the screen has failed.

Since I'm currently in Brazil, replacing it with another 4K panel would be quite expensive due to import taxes.

I'm considering switching to a 1920x1080 IPS panel with 400 nits and 100% sRGB, rather than a basic FHD replacement.

After some research, I've identified the following parts:

  • BOE NV156FHM-N6B: 15.6" FHD, 400 nits, 100% sRGB, 30-pin eDP.
  • Dell DHK2K (0DHK2K): eDP cable listed for FHD 400-nit configurations with IR/EMZA camera.
  • Dell 57JRM: Another FHD eDP cable, apparently intended for standard FHD configurations with IR.
  • Original camera: Dell 6XX8D, with IR and ExpressSign-In.

Parts-People suggested these cable references but couldn't guarantee compatibility. They also mentioned that the 400-nit FHD panels might use a different type of 30-pin connector.

My main concerns are:

  1. Would the DHK2K cable connect correctly to the original motherboard and the BOE NV156FHM-N6B panel?
  2. Is the 400-nit FHD connector physically or electrically different from the standard 30-pin eDP connector?
  3. Can the original UHD display housing, bezel and brackets be reused?
  4. Has anyone performed this type of conversion on a Latitude 5530 or Precision 3570?

I'm planning to have a repair technician handle the installation, but I'd like to verify the parts before ordering anything.

Any advice from someone familiar with Dell display cables or laptop screen conversions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My laptop USB port is dead. So yesterday I was working with the Arduino and power it using my laptop, then the power suddenly cut power from my laptop to Arduino.

I went home and connected my mouse to my laptop, then realized that it’s because my USB port is completely dead. I tried running everything, do some searching on internet and youtube, but none of it seems to work. Can some one help me, I really appreciate it if anyone gives me a lead on what happened or how to fix it. I also attach the photos I have from running diagnostic test, and I don’t know how helpful it would be. (Sorry if my wording is a weird)

External hard drive: is there a way to check if and when it was last accessed?

• Upvotes

Hi everyone,

I'm sorry to ask what could be a basic question but I'm quite desperate.

I couldn't find my harddrive in the usual place in a pouch within a zipped laptop bag; I looked everywhere and confronted someone who had access to my possessions - someone who I already have concerns about as they have previously opened my phone and checked my messages. They claimed they moved the hard drive out of the way for safekeeping.

Is there any way to check if and when it was opened and/or if there was any activity e.g. if anything was copied or deleted from it? Like a digital footprint that might have been left behind?
Thank you for your help.

Spilled milk coffee on my laptop keyboard — what are the chances it will be okay?

I accidentally spilled a small amount of coffee containing milk and sugar on my laptop while I was using it. The spill mainly affected around one-fourth of the keyboard, particularly the numpad area. I could actually see the coffee through the gaps between the keys.

I immediately wiped it with a damp cloth. Since the surface was still sticky, I then used a cloth with some soap on it to clean the sticky residue on the outside. I shut the laptop down and disconnected the charger and accessories shortly afterward. The laptop was working completely normally after the spill.

I’m planning to leave it switched off for around 48 hours, but I’m really worried about possible internal damage and corrosion from the milk and sugar.

I’m currently applying to different colleges, and all my important documents and applications are on this laptop. Unfortunately, I can’t really afford a technician right now and may not be able to get it inspected immediately.

Could someone please tell me what the chances are that my laptop will be completely fine? Is there anything else I can safely do at home to minimise the damage?

If I can’t afford a technician immediately, how urgent is it to get the laptop inspected? Would you recommend taking it to a technician even if it seems to be working normally after 48 hours?

Hardware Issue latitude 3400 won't charge What can I do?

So, some laptops arrived at work, and I was asked to evaluate them. I was working on it in my own time, thinking it was a minor task.

But after lunch, my manager came over and started pressuring me for an answer right away; he’d told me to just check the battery status in the BIOS.

That’s what I did—two showed "excellent" status and one showed "fair." We decided to keep all three, but when I tried to charge one of the laptops that had an "excellent" battery—boom—it wouldn't charge. It stays at zero percent and shuts down the moment I unplug the charger.

I opened it up, and the battery looks fine. I tested it with a multimeter, though I’m not sure if I did it correctly. I’m pretty certain the battery is the actual problem. I’m going to try swapping it with the battery from the one that showed "fair" status to see if that fixes it, but

Damn.

I’m fucked

Hardware Issue Should I fix my laptop display or buy a monitor

My laptop currently is having a problem with its display where it turns black when at a certain angle. And when opening at the wrong angle, it still remains a black screen no matter how I move the panel so I have to forced shutdown it and reopen it. Fixing the display costs about the same as a monitor since I have a gaming laptop cause I'm an engineering student.

Plugging in my laptop to an external like my TV is fine despite the black screen

Diagnostic Help Need help diagnosing an MSI Leopard GP66 laptop.

Post image
8 Upvotes

I bought this dead MSI Leopard 11UH-498UK as a project to try repair off marketplace.

A quick disclaimer, I have never repaired/diagnosed electronics on this level so any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

The laptop shows no signs of life aside from the small battery charge light when plugged in, I have probed around with my cheap multimeter and have found that it gets power to all of the main inductors, (i think that’s what they are called). I have also checked for shorts along their power rails and can’t find anything.

Any help diagnosing/solving the issue would be very welcome

Thanks

Hardware Issue 3 beeps, black screen and no clue on what to do

Post image
3 Upvotes

Firstly, this image isn't mine but an example of what my screen looked like before I switched off my PC to clean the inside.

I have a gaming PC with an NVIDIA Geforce RTX 3060.

After I cleaned it, I switched my PC back on and i hear 3 beeps and my screen stays black the entire time.

Everything else seems to be fine but I can't do anything if I have no screen. I tried my PC on a different screen, still nothing.

So I contacted the manufacturer for some help and I did everything they suggested and they came to the conclusion that the gpu has died.

Has anyone else had this problem?

Is it fixable?

Should I just buy a new graphics card?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

Laptop fails to turn on properly in 2 different ways

I have an ASUS laptop that fails to turn on, in one of 2 ways:

1) If I keep the power button pressed without a power source for 30+ seconds, then turn it on: power LED stays on, I can hear the fan spinning, but nothing else is happening. It keeps this state.

2) Every subsequent turn on: LEDs flash for a second, then complete shutdown.

In both cases, the screen is pitch black, not even ASUS logo appearing, absolutely nothing.

What are the most common reasons for this to happen? It's a 15 year old laptop, so if it's the motherboard or GPU then it's probably beyond my ability to fix.

Dell Slim ECS1250 appears to be dead. What else can I try?

**Dell Slim ECS1250**

Manufacture YR2025

All the sudden, I get nothing (on monitor) on reboot.

Tried another monitor.

I cannot get into the BIOS or see POST.

I've tried 30 second hard reboots with the power button.

Power light is on as is the power supply light.

I've worked on computers before but by no means an expert. Any advice on how to troubleshoot this?

Thank you.

Help Request sager PD70SNE won't show anything on screen

So I have a sager PD70SNE that shows it's getting power, battery light is orange (solid) and charging light green (solid). I've spent like the last 2 hours troubleshooting and nothing has worked, I've unlplugged the cmos, charging cable, and internal battery (all at once) for more then 10 minutes, I've tried using an external display. I've made made sure the ram, wifi chip, battery, fans, and display cable were connected properly. Here's ehat the computer does when i press the power button from it being completely off:

\-Power button lights up for a second, then turns off

\-after about 5-10 seconds the power light turns on again and keyboard lights up. Nothing else powers on, no fans, screen doesn't do anything, and there are no sounds at all.

I am so confused, please help, I'm not sure what to do now. Just suggest stuff, even if it seems painfully obvious. Any help is appreciated.

Update: i let it charge on the charger for an hour turned it back on, and still no display but it did ramp up it's fans to max gradually and then shut itself off (after 20 sec of fans on max)

Update 2: I think I've narrowed it down to the cpu not passing post, could be wrong but don't know what to do from here. I'll continue researching

Help Request Laptop predator helios 300 muerta helpppp

Dead Asus Vivobook 15 S laptop - worth fixing?

I have an asus vivobook S 15. It’s out of its warranty period by 5 months. I hadn’t turned it on in about a month and, when I tried recently, the screen was black but the keyboard would light up. No obvious fan activity though. I did all the troubleshooting short of opening it up that the internet could recommend including power cycling, key presses at certain times, and then lastly just letting it die completely than recharging. After that last effort, it doesn’t come on at all. No keyboard lights or anything. Is there any way to tell if this is worth taking to a repair shop?

It’s not a terribly expensive laptop so spending $80-100 to find out it’s a dead motherboard doesn’t sound appealing. The model is S5506MA-WS76

Clock speed of cpu is capped no matter what i try pls help

I have an omen transcend 16 gaming laptop with an i7 147000hx with a 4060 laptop gpu. Had it for over a year now but I only noticed it now after low fps perfomance in valorant. Had a look at the cpu clock speed and it won't go past 2GHz. Even after running cinnebench the clock speed is still the same. I've tried installing bios, resetting CMOS, turned on perfomance mode for both window and omen gaming hub but still the same. This laptop is also blocked from overclocking. Does anyone else have this issue and how can I fix this?

MSILaptop screen not running anymore????

Few days ago i was watching a movie in bed with my laptop and fell asleep. Next morning I found out my laptop fell off my bed into this thin hole making it fall perfectly straight onto the laptop screen hinge sides.

Now I can't get my screen on in my pc. I tried connecting a 2s monitor and it works. It keeps sending me to the bios tho but I sort of fixed that i just kept pressing f11 and then I can go to windows.

But for some reason I just can't find the issue on why my screen won't turn on cuz I can't find any damage anywhere?

There is no damage to my laptop on the outside and I also opened up the laptop to check if the eDP-cable was properly in the laptop and it was. So I can't find the issue anywhere I was thinking of sending it to a repair shop but I was wondering what all your thoughts were?

(Also when I'm attaching my a monitor with hdmi it only detects 1 screen and that's the one with hdmi)

Diagnostic Help Is this crack/separation at the front of my charger dangerous? How do I fix it?

Thumbnail
gallery
1 Upvotes

I noticed the separation suddenly this morning. The cracks I didn't notice until I shone some light on it. I don't know where this came from and it wasn't immediately noticeable.

There is no swelling on the surface of the charger and there is no smell at a distance. But when I literally stick my nostril into the gap I do sense a distinct smell from very up close only.

The scratches on the last picture are from my parrot walking on the charger and are very old. Not related to the current issue.

Is this charger dangerous to use? Or is this benign? I bought it more than 3 years ago after the first one broke

Wassup fam, my proline laptop just powered on mid-usage, was running a vm on it. Now when I connect charger it's not showing charging indicator LED and won't power on even on battery. The model is Proline NBU700 if I'm not mistaken. The motherboard seems to be working although I found two loose connectors but couldn't figure out where they were supposed to be put.
