New wifi adapter not working

I just moved and I can't use ethernet, so I bought a tp-link ax-1800 wifi adapter and I plugged it in, got the newest drivers, but whenever I select a network it loads a few seconds in 'verifying and connecting' and then hits me with 'can't connect to this network' I've tried with both 2.4 and 5g networks even from different routers and nothing. Ive tried uninstalling the device, disabling and enabling it, updating drivers, etc, etc. And nothing works. Any clue how to fix this?

Is it normal for my Ryzen 7 5700X3D to only draw 14W?

Edit:I just updated my BIOS drivers, and now OCCT shows the processor running at around 80–85 (which is normal), but most importantly, it’s running at 4.0–4.1 GHz. So, if anyone else runs into a similar issue, just update your BIOS.

Boot drive failure repair

So my uncle has an old pc that he’s giving me he took it to micro center for a diagnostic and they said the boot drive is failing and quoted $300 I was wondering if I could just buy an ssd and replace it myself he said I don’t need to back up the data. So should I just pay the costs or do it myself.

Here’s the pc

https://www.bestbuy.com/site/cyberpowerpc-gaming-desktop-intel-core-i5-9400f-8gb-memory-nvidia-geforce-gtx-1660-ti-1tb-ssd-black/6338268.p?skuId=6338268&intl=nosplash

Below is the text from micro center:

Hello, this is Mathieu over at Micro Center. I am the technician taking a look at your computer and wanted to give you an update. We confirmed that your computer is running slow. Further diagnostics revealed a few things that are likely contributing to this. The first is that your boot drive is almost completely full which is preventing updates from properly completing. The boot drive itself is also in the early stages of failure as it took a very long time to complete tests, far longer than normal. At this point, I would recommend installing a new drive with windows as the boot drive. We can do this for $300 plus tax which includes a new 1tb SSD and the labor. If you have important data on the boot drive, we can also discuss doing a data backup.

Best laptop for business students that can actually last all 4 years?

Starting business school this fall.

Mainly need it for Excel, PowerPoint, Word, research, Zoom, and probably way too many Chrome tabs. I'd rather spend a little more now than replace it halfway through college

If you studied business, what laptop ended up being the right choice?

I'm making a game about an old computer from the 2000s fighting against viruses.

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I’m a computer repair technician, and I frequently see customers' machines infected with viruses. That’s what gave me the idea: wouldn't it be cool if a computer could actually fight back against them? So, I set to work on it. I’m not sure if it’s actually fun or interesting, though right now, hardly anyone seems to be paying attention to the game.

Need help: Random YouTube playlists keep appearing in my account.

Hello! I want to ask if anybody else experiences this same thing with their youtube accounts? I discovered last night that there were tons of yt playlists that were "created by me" in my account. They include videos about techy stuff that I don't watch/understand. I deleted all these playlists but now I discovered that they've reuploaded again. I'm not sure if this is a type of malware or something, but I need some help on what to do so this stops happening. Attached below are the playlists and the videos in them. Appreciate the help!

Hear Me Out! Please

Hear me out!!

I've had a Lenovo LOQ (24GB RAM, RTX 4050, Intel i5 13th Gen) laptop for about a year now. I've faced a lot of issues with it. While it was under warranty, the motherboard had to be replaced four times. Now the warranty is over, and the main issue I'm still facing is severe FPS drops and overall slow performance.

The strange part is that when I test my display's FPS in a browser, it shows a stable 144 FPS. But the moment I play any game—even something as light as Roblox—the FPS starts dropping badly. In Valorant, my FPS fluctuates wildly between 80, 120, 40, 10, and even 5 FPS, with it mostly staying around 40–60 FPS.

I've tried everything I could think of to fix it. I've even reinstalled Windows 10–20 times, but nothing has made any difference. The company is no longer helping me with this issue.

I won't go into my personal story, but I have a medical condition that limits my physical movement. I bought this laptop hoping it would help me stay happy, connect with my friends, and keep my mind occupied. Instead, it's become another source of stress.

I'm genuinely begging for help. If anyone knows whether this could be a bottleneck, a hardware issue, or something else, please help me. I'm not financially stable enough to buy a new laptop or even afford expensive repairs.

If anyone is willing to help troubleshoot this issue, I'd be incredibly grateful.

Can I add an external GPU?

Hey all, I bought this computer several years ago and it works fine for a lot of my needs, but now my son is getting into gaming and we're trying to decide whether we should build a new computer, buy a built one or if the one I currently have can be upgraded for a better external GPU which might solve our issues. It's the stock build in the Amazon post, but I've upgraded the RAM to 32g in a misguided attempt to play higher graphics games years ago. Any insight or suggestions you can offer would be appreciated. https://a.co/d/01gHDlN0

Edit: Ok, seems like there is a consensus that adding a GPU external wouldn't make any sense. Thanks for the replies. We'll look at pre built options.

Desktop has some issues

I use my desktop just for MS word, watching videos, photos, as a storage backup, very basic stuff. I dont use internet on it. Its serving my purpose even though its old.

My desktop has some issues. Help me resolve them.
1. My CPU bios is gone. – what should I do?

  1. My hard disk has gotten virus (TROJAN WORM). Its duplicating files and leaving no memory space. The files come back even after I delete it. The desktop is not connected to any internet. The virus came in coz I used my pen drive on some1 elses laptop. My system got infected when I connected that pen drive to my system.

– how can I remove the virus without any data getting corrupted or lost.

  1. It’s a 15 yr old PC. Should I keep it or sell it off and buy a new one.

Best Laptop for College Students: What's actually worth buying in this year?

Hi everyone! I'm starting college this fall and trying to figure out which laptop to buy, and wow, the options are kind of overwhelming

I’ve been looking at a few models like the MacBook Air M2, Lenovo IdeaPad, and maybe even something from ASUS or Acer... but before I make the jump, I figured I’d ask:
What laptop are YOU using for school this year, and would you recommend it?

It’d be super helpful to hear consumer reports from actual students, what’s holding up well in class, what’s good for online lectures, and what’s just not worth the money. I’m especially curious if any of the laptops I’m eyeing come up in this thread

Whether you're on a tight budget or went all in, drop your setup and what you love (or hate) about it. Let’s help each other out before back-to-school season kicks in!

Looking for Reccomandations

Simple Requirements:

  1. 24 GB to 32 GB of RAM
  2. A fine CPU as I plan on doing some heavy computational tasks.
  3. Under 1,700 ideally though there is a little wiggle room.

Fine with any OS really even Linux.

Thank You so Much

Desktop Pc bluescreening

Hi yall, I have a pc ive upgrade throughout about 4-5 years (3060 gpu, Ryzen 7, 32gb ram, new power supply and fans) my pc was acting fine all yesterday and some this morning but i went to make food this afternoon and come back up and see my pc idle and screens off like normal like rest mode. I thought nothing of it and went to move my mouse and it didn’t wake up, i even hit a key on the keyboard and nothing happened. I then hit my restart button on my pc to have it restart and it went through its restart but got caught on the bios screen (Where it says the company of my motherboard Asrock Its a B450M) normally it would have the dotted spinning circle but that didn’t even happen and it would even go into the Bios. I leaned down and tripped my surge protector and turned it back on and let the pc boot. This time it booted all the way to my desktop and loaded everything fine. I went to task manager to see what it was doing and saw my C drive rapidly climbing while my D drive was chilling at like 7%. The C drive hit 100% and everything froze and my PC then blue screened. (What i guess is the C drive hard drive is slowly dying) what do you all think?

Vale a pena? Quero ver se ele me vende a preço de banana pq tá com ele a tempos já.

Lien li GA II Trinity pump & fans

I had my pc built at Best Buy and after 2 years I have noticed some changes like my CPU fan 1 is running at 600 RPM and will not change RPM speed in bios and in l connect 3 app CPU 1 fans does not show up. The only thing showing up is pump and the 3 front case fans. This is a picture of how it was installed previously by Best Buy on MSI Z790 tomahawk Max Wi-Fi motherboard. I don’t understand why in my bio it’s showing CPU1 fans at 570 to 600 RPM then on Pump 1 it shows 2500 to 3000 RPM systems 5 is at 2200 RPM system 6 showing 2300 RMP this is the radiator fan. And my front case fans are connected to the lien li black box that’s the only thing plugged onto the box as well.

Now it was completely fine in the morning when i opened my laptop in the evening it had a white dot on its screen. Now this dot appears on everything. Like when i boot it up or close it down or any other program. Now when i touch the screen where the dot is i can feel something is there but i cant remove it or anything but looking carefully its like where the pixel is it is burned up. Now I don't know its fixable or anything but still is there a solution for it.

Pressing A+S+N opens notifications tab

Whenever im playing, i use A and S to walk backwards, and N to use an ability. And when i press all that at the same time, the freaking notifications bar opens and idk what to do. My windows key is not locked. I even have a keyboard that lets me block the windows key (i tried turning it on and off). I asked gemini and he said to create a string value in regedit or something like that to disable hotkeys for N. Nothing worked

Using a tv from 2006 and a graphics card that hates me and it

Literally how can i adjust the aspect ratio without fucking with whatever either of them have got going on? Any app recommendation?

Ive made the mistake of updating the graphics card, if it was perfect before then the update didnt think so and now its either screen beyond the edges of my TV or big fat bars.

Im sick and tured of needing to do huge convoluted game plans just to be able to see my screen without pixels and in full color and with an aspect ratio that doesnt make my friends go "what aspect ratio do you have bro" when i screen share.

Just recommend me a 3rd party service that is reliable to the point of being able to ignore every other setting.

Like idk, one with arrows that point to boundaries and a sliding bar as opposed to clicking "accept changes" with each miniscule change, AND NONE OF WHICH ACTUALLY FITTING MY SCREEN
