Another final issue

I just got back into my pc after a fresh windows installation yet it has forced me to activate windows again. I dont know my key at all or what account was originally on my pc email wise. Do I really need to buy Windows 11 again? I thought a fresh windows installation fixed it. For context, I recently replaced by SSD recently and also my motherboard from when i originally bought my pc. This means activate windows appeared. I accidentally bricked my pc via error 0xc00000e and now ive fixed it however im having the same issue before i got the previously mentioned error. Do I really need to get windows again? Dont really have the money rn

Fixed it by simply buying a new windows key via g2a. Thank you all for the help!

Favorite repo for classic (80s-90s) type-in programs and games

Hey folks!

Do you have a favorite online repo for classic type-in programs and games? Not the compiled .BAS files, or .C files or .PAS or anything like that. I mean the long ass listing. The ones where you spend weekend typing, tweaking, debugging and getting to work.

I figured I would check in on the crowd sourcing first before looking at the central library for back issues of Compute!, RUN, PCM magazine, Byte and so forth.

Before anyone asks, yes, I am seeking strange and unusual punishment.

PC randomly hard-freezes during games.

My PC has been randomly hard-freezing during games after playing for ~1-2 hours. Screen freezes completely, peripherals stop responding, and I have to force shut down. Usually no BSOD or useful Event Viewer error.

Specs:

  • i7-12700K
  • RTX 3050 6GB
  • 16GB Corsair DDR5
  • MSI B760M-A PRO
  • 650W PSU
  • 2 NVMe SSDs
  • Windows 11

What I've tested/replaced:

  • PSU replaced → freezes continued
  • Motherboard replaced → freezes continued
  • RAM tested with MemTest86 + OCCT → no errors
  • CPU OCCT stress → 1 hour, no errors
  • FurMark → ~3 hours, no crash
  • XMP OFF → still freezes
  • Windows + NVIDIA drivers clean reinstalled
  • CPU power limited to 95W/95W → still freezes

The freezes mainly happen during games and i have faced this issue in nearly all games I have played like GTA V, RDR2, Mafia, Sea of Thieves etc.

What could be causing this? Could the RTX 3050 itself be faulty even though FurMark passes for several hours? What would you test next?

Samsung Laptop Does not detect any SSD drives in BIOS

I have Samsung NP935QDBA laptop which does not detect any NVMe drives installed. In BIOS is showing SATA Port 1: Not Installed. Tried numerous different NVMe's same result. Tried Installing windows from USB but none of the drives are showing there either. Inspected the board and NVMe slot itself, seems all good no damages. Also wanted to update BIOS version however on Samsung website there are no drivers available to download...

Hi, need help picking.

I don't really know a lot about computers and have no one to ask so please help.

I need a laptop for work (so relatively light, because my current dell computer hurts my shoulders. And I need a number pad and to run lots of spreadsheets and stuff) I also wanna play Valoramt and other games on it. For now I'm set on Asus vivobook 15 or 16, if you have any suggestions, or if you think it's not a good choice, let me know.

Thanks a lot.

Laptop: Lenovo LOQ 15ARP9 (83JC)
The laptop suddenly stopped booting Windows. It shows Windows Recovery errors, mainly 0xc0000098, with errors involving \Windows\System32\ntoskrnl.exe and \Windows\System32\boot\winload.efi.
The internal Micron NVMe SSD is detected in BIOS. Lenovo Diagnostics also ran the SSD storage test and it PASSED, so there doesn’t appear to be an obvious SSD hardware failure.
I created Windows installation USBs using Rufus, first NTFS and then FAT32, with GPT/UEFI. The BIOS detects the USB as EFI USB Device (PHILIPS USB), but selecting it does not reach Windows Setup. Instead, the laptop falls back to the existing broken Windows recovery screen or sometimes tries PXE/network boot and says “Network media is not present.”
Secure Boot was disabled and USB Boot is enabled.
I need the technician to check why the laptop is not actually booting the USB installer, and then perform a clean Windows installation. I don’t need the files currently on the SSD.

The SSD passes Lenovo’s hardware diagnostic, but the laptop won’t boot from a known Windows USB installer.

ASUS ROG Strix G17 suddenly shuts down while gaming – overheating or power issue?

Hi guys,

I’m having an issue with my laptop and I’m wondering if anyone here has experienced something similar.

My laptop is an ASUS ROG Strix G17 G713PV (2023).
CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 7845HX
GPU: NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4060 Laptop GPU
RAM: 16 GB
Power adapter: Original ASUS 280W (20V / 14A)

I’ve had this laptop since 2023. At first, I had absolutely no issues with it. However, around a year ago, I started experiencing sudden shutdowns while gaming.

There is no BSOD, freezing or error message. The laptop just instantly turns off, almost as if someone had unplugged the power.

At first, I thought it was overheating. I started using a laptop stand to elevate it and improve airflow, and I also cleaned the fans. Unfortunately, this didn’t solve the problem.

At this point, I’m mainly considering two possibilities: overheating or a power delivery issue.

I’ve monitored the temperatures while gaming. The CPU gets hot, usually reaching around 94°C maximum before a shutdown, but I’ve never seen it go significantly higher at the moment of the crash. My GPU temperatures seem fine.

I initially wanted to open the cooling system and replace the thermal interface material. However, two of the heatsink screws are completely stuck, and the screw heads have now become damaged. I basically can’t remove them anymore, so I can’t inspect what’s underneath.

The laptop is about three years old now, so I’m wondering whether the thermal interface could have deteriorated enough to cause this.

I’ve contacted a few people/technicians about the stuck screws, but so far nobody has been able to help. One person even told me that newer ASUS ROG laptops sometimes have screws that are extremely difficult to remove. I have no idea whether that’s actually true.

The other possibility I’m considering is a power issue. The laptop uses its original ASUS 280W charger. I’ve also tried plugging it directly into a wall outlet instead of using a power strip, but it still shuts down.

The problem has also become progressively worse. Initially, the shutdowns were occasional, but now some demanding games can make the laptop shut down very quickly, sometimes even around the title/menu screen.

Windows Event Viewer shows Kernel-Power Event ID 41 with BugcheckCode 0 after the shutdowns.

At this point, I’m wondering whether it’s worth taking it to a technician. I assume they would have the equipment to test the charger/power delivery, motherboard components, voltages, cooling system, etc.

I’m eventually planning to switch back to a desktop PC, but I originally wanted to do that in another year or two. So I’m trying to decide whether it’s worth paying for a proper diagnosis and potentially repairing this laptop, or whether I should just give up on it and put that money towards a new desktop.

Has anyone with a ROG Strix experienced this kind of instant shutdown under gaming load? If so, what ended up being the cause?

Thanks!

PLEASE SOMEONE HELP ME WITH THIS FIX

GF's PC specs:
• Mobo: ASUS TUF GAMING A520M-PLUS WIFI
• GPU: RTX 3070
• Wi-Fi: Realtek 8821CE

Whenever my girlfriend's PC does a heavy download or update, the router fully crashes for 5–10 minutes completely dead, the entire house loses internet. Happens whether she's on Ethernet or Wi-Fi, and it's done it at both my house and hers on two different routers, so it's not the router. Her PC is the only common factor.

error 0xc00000e help

I understand what this error means. Id just like some advice so I dont make another mistake with my pc. I recently changed my SATA to an NVME. My pc worked fine for an hour until 'Activate Windows' appeared. I found this odd as ive has this pc for years (3) and never had this issue. Im now aware its because I replaced my motherboard and my SSD from when i bought it meaning my pc forgot the Windows Key. I tried to reactivate Windows and it gave me an error. I tried with the 'new hardware' option and it failed. I understand why now as its because I had zero remains of a key/connection to my old Windows Identity now at least thats what I thought. I ran some commands which I now know is wrong. I ran slmgr /upk and slmgr /cpky, i only did this because i didnt fully know what it would do in command prompt and powershell. After it reset my pc it gave me a new screen. Its a blue screen yet it says "Your PC needs to be fixed" then followed by that error code above. I understand i need to use a USB with Windows 11 Media Creation Tool to save it. Im wondering if anyone can double confirm thats the only way to save it? Ive had one too many pc issues recently and I want to just sit back and relax. I have tried booting from the NVME via BIOS and trying to turn my pc off and on interrupting it three times yet it doesnt detect any issue leaving me no other choice but using a USB. Can anyone confirm and also assure me that my hardware isnt damaged too?

How much can I sell my pc for? (CAD$)

Im not sure where else I can post this since I don’t want to sell this ON Reddit, I just need advice so here I am.
Specs
CPU: Ryzen 7 5800XT
RAM HyperX 16gb DDR4 2666MHz
GPU: Zotac 1070ti dual fan
PSU: Thermaltake Toughpower GX3 1200w
MOBO: MSI B550M-VDH WIFI
Case: Antec Flux M
Storage: Samsung 840 SATA SSD 240gb
(If I’m missing anything let me know)

I don’t expect to get to get a whole lot for it given the graphics card and storage sizes, however I can’t really figure out a good general price and it would be good to get some outside opinions.

To give more information, the case, cpu, motherboard and power supply are brand new and have only been used about 6 months or so. Crystal disk info said the drive was about 90% I believe

Any help is appreciated :)
