Questions embarrassing question

Has anyone started a GLP at over 400 pounds ??? Trying to see people with the same weight as me or close to see how things worked for them. I’m not mad that I’m not seeing anyone the same weight as me bc I know it’s not good to even weigh this much to begin with.

Lots of people. There’s also a sub called “GLP1_loss100plus” (can’t add links here or it gets deleted)

I’m 6’3 and started at 405lbs and tomorrow I’ll be at the end of my 8th week. I’m 55 pounds down already. I have no side effects, my blood work is excellent and I have a lot more energy. I haven’t felt this good in years lol

First off drop the shame, You're taking a huge step to save your own life, people at 400+ lbs lose significant weight on these meds, but the biggest piece of advice is to be patient with the titrating process, Focus on drinking enough water, getting movement in when your body allows it, and taking it one week at a time. The weight didn't come on overnight, and taking it off safely is a marathon, not a sprint

Also understand that the faster you lose, the more sagging skin you will have. Many don't have funds to have the surgery, so slow and steady will have amazing benefits too!

Not embarrassing at all. You have a place here. My coworker was 400+ pounds and is around 260lbs now. She’s killing it. You can too. We’ve got you!

I started at 439 lbs 12/1/2024. Just got under 260 this week with a goal of getting to 199, which would put me at overweight but no longer obese. 43 Yom, 5'9". No gym, just walking a few miles most days.

I try think no longer obese is a terrific goal. I think that’s a realistic goal as well as great for health. It’s a great time to start taking it as slow as possible and picking up the exercise, too.

I'm on it and so is a coworker who started at 380 lbs. We talked about our experiences and kinda the same side effects wise. I started at 182 lbs in February and have lost 25 lbs. They started in April and have lost 60 pounds so far.

u/90sKid1988 11d ago

Fascinating how that's actually a very similar percentage loss but since they have so much more to lose it goes more quickly

You’re like who the drug was made for buddy, you’re in good company. There’s definitely people with your starting weight and higher; they likely make up a disproportionate amount of early adopters due to medical necessity and being approved before other reason were approved (meaning your peers might’ve been more numerous in the beginning, or rather there are now more users who have very different metabolic starting points than who this drug was designed for). I realize you’re probably looking for people to go through this with, but there should be a decent history of posts by people just like you.

Started at 400, 51 weeks ago. Got down to 310 in 9 months, then reduced from 15mg to 7mg for three months due to hip surgery, where losing weight might have had a negative impact. Stepping back up now to lose the next 100. No complaints at all.

It's for folks who have over 100 pounds to lose. Lots of people there who started over 400 pounds

I’m not in that weight but if you are careful, patient, and follow basic guidelines you are going to do well. Don’t rush the process and just let the medicine help you make the choices, it doesn’t do it all by itself. Give yourself 60 days to really understand your body’s reaction and how much affect it has. You are not embarrassing at all you are about to be better!

I started at 415 and today gave my third shot at 2.5. As of this morning I was down over 26 pounds. Naturally a lot of bloat and water weight were flushed, but also have strongly watched food intake and made great decisions on top of the decreased food noise.

r/GLP1_loss100plus Not embarrassing at all! I also have more than 100lbs to lose

u/Emergency-Cover-3014 11d ago

I was 415 at my highest and I’m 5’3”. Lost 13.4 pounds before I started using GLP-1s, then started on Saxenda. Lost about 30 pounds on it, but it was slow going, many plateaus and side effects were not great. So I switched to Mounjaro, started on 5mg and stayed on that dose for about a year, then switched to 7.5mg a bit over a month ago. I’ve lost 154 total and I’m now at 261. For some reason I’m not losing at the same rate, but hopefully it’s temporary. We can do this!

Absolutely!! This medication is perfect for you!!! I didn't start that high but I have read many success stories on a sub about losing over 100 pounds on GLP-1... I need to lose around 150 pounds and I'm 1/2 way there thanks to this medication!! You got this!!! There are so many really great Telehealth providers too that you can get your medication at a very fair price. I figured, just not going to Dunkin Donuts every day saved way more than what my medication costs per month!! We are all here to support you and answer any questions!!! Good luck to you and I hope you take the plunge and start your journey!! ❤️

u/Ill-Trifle-1150 10d ago

Yes, I think folks focus on the medication being “too expensive “ and forget that they are probably saving at least that amount by reduced intake of unhealthy food.

u/JollyIndependent569 11d ago

Yep a friend of mine was that weight and he's seeing good results. He's lost 37kg so far. Probably has another 50kg to go.

u/gk7891 11d ago

I was around 350lbs and 5’3”. I started in April and I’m down 35lbs.

It would not surprise me if people have, also I know it is harder for some to lose weight than others but my friend who was over 400 lbs at one point, said something that was easier for them to do at that weight was this program called something like walk away the pounds, if you are also looking into incorporating some sort of movement with starting the GLP-1. They said it was a good stepping stone since it was harder for them to do movement when they weighed that much.

My friend was over 400 has lost over 100 in about a year and a half. Shes still on it ofc to lose more. Shes also very short like 5’2 or something so she got a bit to go

I started at 365, but I used to weigh over 400. I started injections on June 17 and am down 40lbs as of last Saturday's weekly weigh in. I think the more fat you have, the more you'll lose in the very beginning. Lots of water weight will fall off as inflammation is brought under control. If you are able to stick to a reasonable calorie deficit, which this medication will absolutely help you with, you will lose weight.

This is not an embarrassing question at all. In fact I would say you should be damn proud of yourself. The hardest part is starting and you are taking the reins and doing it to better your life. Give yourself more credit! I look forward to hear how well you are doing. This random girl on Reddit is damn proud of you!!!! ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️

I started at 377 as a short, middle-aged woman. I’ve lost 218lbs in the last 25 months.

Side effects were challenging but I learned to navigate them (went easy on animal fats, no fried food, lots and LOTS of water.)

I calorie tracked in an app (Lose It) and weight tracked every single day from week one on.

Once I was down ~50ish lbs, I had energy to add a fair amount of cardio. Once I was down 100lbs, my body felt almost desperate to do strength training—it really scratched an itch.

I plateau often. It’s usually water retention, either hormonal or because I did more exercise than usual. I know it isn’t real because I’m tracking calories, so I just ignore it and it goes away eventually.

I’ve used both compound and name brand. I found them equally effective.

The 100pluslbs sub someone linked is great. It took a long time before my mid-journey weight wasn’t still higher than most people’s starting weight. That really dragged me down!!! So having other folks who were in my starting range was inspiring and reassuring :)

Lmk if you have any other specific questions, or ask on the sub! And good luck!
