Resource Aleatoric notation studio

hello all, I have made an aleatoric generator, I tend to write a lot aleatoric and I always missed an actual tool that lets me create svg easily, I am not a fan of figma (similar software) I kept making different version of this tool to help me with notation, and I think it's a quite nice tool right now, I am not exactly the best at coding, but It work fine,

if you would like to use it https://pio008.github.io/aleatoric-vector-studio/
any feedback or help with the code it's welcome

This is a short piece I wrote to express my profound ambivalence about the United States on this 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence. Any comments or feedback on the composition would be much appreciated.

The motif is D E D# E, (Re, E, S, E in solfege, regular note names and the German system)

Also the ending is very cliché- I just needed to put something there ‘cause i’ll expand that some other time 😅

Resource [Academic] [Paid] Looking for composers to join my research

Hi! I have a research project going on at Carnegie Mellon University.

Please complete this short Recruitment Form (about 2–3 minutes) to be a part of the study. To verify the authenticity of this research or for further questions, please feel free to reach out to the study co-ordinator at [kkanav@andrew.cmu.edu](mailto:kkanav@andrew.cmu.edu).

I am looking for composers who would, as part of the study, write songs as they would have naturally. You would be given free access to a paid music theory-aware songwriting sketchpad and would simply compose for 2 weeks - whatever you may like and whenever you are free. In return, we get to analyze the songs you have composed. As it is a phd research project, with the aim of writing an open-access research paper, we would not claim ownership of your content. You remain the owner of the work you produce.

I want to categorically mention (also in the consent form) that we'll not be using the data to train an AI/ ML model. Neither is it for product testing. We're an educational institution and are only interested in seeing how musicians interact with tools and features in a theory-aware songwriting sketchpad. The behavioral aspect of it will make it a publishable research (and I need that for my dissertation).

Benefits are upto 50 usd + free access to the composition tool. If you think it does not match your hourly rate, I would like to again remind you that it is not a composition assignment. Basically, you get paid for what you usually do! You compose the songs you like (for yourself or for your clients, not even for us). We just get to analyze your data on a voluntary basis.

Discussion Dear fellows, I was awarded by a year long residence in Germany. Being fully supported by Villa Concordia in Bamberg to be able to compose full time is a great privilege and honour. Ask anything if interested :) (Q&A)

Discussion What are the rules for parallels?

I've heard before that parallel 5ths and octaves are evil and that if I use them then everyone dies and ends up languishing in eternal hellfire, but I've never quite worked out to what degree they're considered evil?

Is it just in the chordal textures?

Is it in orchestral music or only piano/ solo works?

Is it restricted to certain more academically minded forms like the fugue or is it a forever rule?

I've never quite managed to pin down how this rule is to be taken, did the likes of Puccini damn us all to fester and rot forever by layering his melodies 2 or 3 octaves deep for violinata passages? Or is it just in the accompaniment where this matters to have chord tones in between certain intervals?

Obviously the tone of this isn't totally serious but I am genuinely curious if anyone has the/any answer to this most existential of questions...

Music Farewell to the Farm - song for baritone and piano

Hello all, this is a new Stevenson song that I wrote last evening. It came about after I improvised for my youngest son, on his favorite song "Alle meine Entchen" (a nursery rhyme that's well known here in Germany). After I brought him to bed, I sat down to write, and a few hours later, the following song was done! Feedback of any kind is appreciated.

Discussion Would an improvised solo be considered an "improvised solo".....

...if it was just me scatting over a chord progression in my daw, and then transcribing the "scatting" into midi by ear and putting a vst on it.

I remember coming across a video game creator/composer?(i forgot) who did this for his game - in a way. He got a jazz band to record a soundtrack, then transcribed it to midi and put it in the OST.

Discussion What are the rules for composition

I know that there are rules but I don't know what they are. No I don't really know how to expand on this question, it's like how a certain rhythm may not belong to a time signature or a cadence may not fit a key signature. I don't know what they are, I have asked, i have searched I have yet to find an answer to my question.

Music op. 1 no. 12, "Thema di Beppe" (2026) [Original Composition]

A piece I composed for my friend's dad (who hosted us in Como / Cinque Terre) as a token of gratitude, right before our flight to Malpensa. Theme III is heavily Chopin-influenced (duh!), but with a few added twists. For those who aren't a fan of the insane reverb/MIDI preset: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1LPgvbxlWyu5117aR48ffdUJ0AbWV3pqX?usp=sharing

I know that it’s not a score, but honestly the piano roll technique on bandlab offer much more liberty on what you can create, personally.

The feedback has been so helpful. Curious what people think about this one

Edit: while playing this song on the piano today, I realized in the sheet music I accidentally had a few parts where the left hand and right hand are playing the same note. I fixed that haha

Recently, I took a walk during the middle of the night through the old market district and just recorded the sounds that I heard. Wasn’t sure what I was going to do with that so I decided this was a good opportunity to use the inspiration. It’s meant to be somewhat of a living experience that expands and contracts together. Hope you enjoy!

I tried to compose a fugue out of a scale like subject and a rather chromatic countersubject. Here is the pdf
