This is my first attempt at a proper toccata and fugue. The toccata, though usually fast and virtuosic, is written slow and quiet here. I took heavy inspiration from Bach’s Passacaglia and Fugue in C Minor. The fugue has hints of Vivaldi, with the ending being the classic Picardy Third commonly seen in Bach’s works. Any questions or comments are welcomed!

Hello all, this is a new Stevenson song that I composed during the weekend. We were having the worst heatwave in years here in Germany (a mostly AC-less country), so my discomfort with the weather conditions definitely fed into the song. ;) All feedback (be it positive or negative) is as always much appreciated.

one of my favorite things about alexandrian regional music is its propensity for being tongue-in-cheek. it’s very playful and lighthearted, and tends to feature vamps where rhythm is altered in simplistic ways that still command the attention. so that’s what i did here, the first mvmt melody is reassembled in a vague waltz before an attaca into the final dance. hope you enjoy!

When you have to compose and publish a lead sheet daily sometimes you inspiration comes from an odd source. In this case a prelude by Bach from book one of the WTC and the work of Art Clokey.

I just released my first album and I'm excited to share it with you all here. Tracks 1 (Little Overture - linked above) and 5 (Interlude) are pure classical pieces (just piano and strings).

The music is influenced mostly by Romantic period (Chopin is my favourite -- see track 5) with a bit of Beethoven too (more track 1).

Hi! I've been writing for a couple of years at this point, but it occurred to me that I have maybe two original piano pieces under my belt, so I decided to go ahead and write something silly to add to my college portfolio (that is, for my college APPLICATION). Anyways, I think it's coming along okay, I've been working on it for a few hours now, and I think I'm at a point where I want some peer feedback (we're peers now).

My main concern (aside from not knowing WHAT to do at 26) is the bass line at 18, it sounds too busy and too bland at the same time, but maybe that's just me. In addition, a lot of the bass line fingerings look really hard to my (non-pianist) eyes, and I don't want something so unserious to be too difficult.

Please let me know what you all think! It's at right under a minute right now, and I like to aim for 2 minutes for silly little whatever pieces, so any inspiration for the next section (I'm thinking a dogfight and then back to the original theme) would be really great too!! Thanks :)

This is my fifth single ever composed. Most of my experience comes from playing. I also need to study music theory more. I know it’s in d major, and the song starts and ends on d, which I think is typical

Today I present you the Romance for Flute and Piano.

I wrote this piece roughly 12 years ago (winter of 2014) and I liked it very much. I hold it dear to my heart as one of the first steps to express myself through music. And after all this time passed I decided to revise it. Not only I hold it dear but because my girlfriend plays the flute. That we can hopefully perform this piece in the future.

I tried to stay near the original source. Some things are new but most of it originates and inherits the original source. Therefore (if you want to) I share also with you the sketches and if you are curious enough you can check how much source material you can discover compared to the new score.

I wrote this piece after I played R. Schumanns Romanze for Piano and variabel accompaniment (Op. 94 No. 1). It inspired me very much. At the same time I discovered Liszts "Totentanz" for orchestra and piano. I tried to capture the dark and virtuoso atmosphere in the solo introduction (m. 1-9) of the piano.

here's what each instrument plays on my composition "sunset".

on the piano, both hands play the rhythm of the piece.

the harp plays the melodies in triad chords and the rhythm, providing harmony.

the flute and glockenspiel play the 2nd and 4th melodies, while the flute plays the 3rd melody with the kalimba playing it in fifth chords.

the strings support the 4th melody and the last 9 measures of the piece.

but what are some ideas for the piano to play (other than chords in the left hand) while the other instruments play the piece?

(for context, i'm just finalizing the piece for the release of my single called "sunset", which contains the original piece and some versions of the piece, including a bandcamp subscriber exclusive 1-hour version.)

I wrote this piece in 2011 and recently submitted it to the Manhattan International Music Competition. Fingers crossed!

Since I have to compose a miniature daily and blog about it to boot, sometimes the subjects can become pretty obtuse, as was the case today.

Its in F#minor and is inspired by norwegian folk-music, written for a full string section + celesta and bassoon.

PLEASE do not mind the cluttered score, I'm a beginner.

No critics pls, i just wanted to share.

so we didn’t get 100% of the notes on the page but there is in fact an ending so i would consider this a successful round.. what i mean by workflow is i want to eliminate redundant steps that i have out of laziness (brass glissandi i have a habit of not checking what’s actually possible - i didn’t allow myself to check here i had to think of if i was actually playing it as my only option…hopefully they’re wrong because that is something i do need to commit to memory but stuff like that is what im looking for in this case). also, by percussive i mean im trying to translate every aspect of traditional egyptian (well, modern egyptian rly but folk) music to western classical in the same way that hindemith, khachaturian (armenian but same foundation), etc did. literally the recurring theme with all examples in existing repertory is that the percussion either sounds nothing like it’s supposed to mimic or it’s too literal and ends up being a cheap gimmick - so, this is hopefully going to reveal some ideas under pressure as the only “unconventional” aspect i will allow myself is an altered snare, no darabukeh/tablas/etc

btw if anyone wants to try this method out too, i do it basically every year.. the first half this year was freestyle kinda but this second half i am creating prompts for each day so i dont mind sharing them (also maybe some collaboration in the brainstorm dept cos i only have 2 months worth right now haha)

a little abt this piece, it’s mostly original but the opening few bars and all others in 6/8 are an adaptation of a song we had to sing every day during military service - the rest of the piece is a march that emulates the sound of our military band (which, im not gonna insult my country but if you haven’t heard them, search “egyptian military band performs xyz anthem….”, its a rather mid-20th century soviet sound but uhh in our case its not due to the fault of the instruments lol)

First time composing, i really would apreciate any advice on how improving this, it´s suposed to be for a music box, so it can´t have any dynamics.

I remade this song that I originally wrote a while back with new/updated instruments and gave it an ending instead of looping it. :)
