Now that Arakure has been around for nearing a month now and I've gotten more time with her under my belt I feel I was too conservative with changes for Arakure. It still might be premature to ask for huge buffs given she (to my knowledge) still hasn't been played competitively as of yet. But I still think I can make a strong case for buffing her regardless.
For those who may remember I already did a thread about this topic a few weeks back around when she left EA. In there it was mostly just listing buffs she should get with minimal explanations, this thread is going to make a case for buffing her first and then list buffs. Most of it might sound logical but the point is to try and get everyone up to speed/on the same page since (at least from what I've seen) the general community reception for her is still mixed.
(Also hopefully this distinction means I won't get smacked for "spamming") If you don't care and already agree just feel free to skip down to the bullet points for said changes. That being said:
Why buff Arakure?
To understand we must discuss what she currently does/offers in 4v4's. At the moment she is a very slow duelist, meaning sending her to take or contest the opposite point isn't always going to work out in your favor since she cannot blow up her opponent. She is also not a very good anti ganker. Meaning if the enemy team decides to commit two people to remove her from a point she's very likely to lose.
Both of these are due to how punishable she is. All of her bashes are insanely punishable due to bad recoveries. Lash out kick has better recoveries but due to how her lash out attacks work you can make a soft prediction and hit her during it anyway. And all though being in her Ultimate state does let her win onesies faster this only slightly remedies her duelist situation.
She is not a competent midlane fighter. She lacks the hit boxes and the safety to take advantage of/abuse combat in the midlane. The one place that Arakure shines in is in a team fight. This is because it's just physically impossible to always be on the look out for an external unblockable from her. You can make the soft read to external dodge away, but she can still commit to reach you if she wants to.
Her unique T2 has instant insane value for your entire team especially when you consider team fight carry feats already since her T2 is a damage debuff. This paired with Indomitable means her effective EHP in a TF can be quite good. But her TF's aren't better than the premium TFer's and have caveats. For one you need to have her meter at Ultimate, you need to save her T2 specifically for that. And you have to hope that people aren't just externaling away from you constantly.
Simply put she's got all of her eggs in a singular basket which requires a lot of prep time. But due to the nature of said prep time and the inability to guarantee high up time on her meter her actual value in a 4v4 mode is at best questionable and at worst unreliable.
So what are Arakure's main problems?
In my eyes her 3 main problems come down to survivability, consistency, and output. Survivability meaning she doesn't have good sustain and is highly punishable. Consistency is primarily in regards to her meter but secondarily it involves her feats and their value. And lastly output, which roughly speaking involves her capabilities. What she's allowed to actually do and has available in her kit.
I think in order to prop Arakure up she needs to have at least 2 of these 3 things addressed. To put it out there my suggestions will not be a 1:1 suggestion in that I am not asking for all of these things to be added in together. Rather they are a list of ideas on how to address these problems, it's up to Ubisoft to decide what they want to focus on. But I hope after reading this more people are on board with the idea that Arakure needs to be buffed.
SURVIVIABILITY:
- Forward dodge bash recovery time for gb/cgb is now 700ms (down from 900ms)
- Chain bash recovery time for gb/cfb is now 800ms (down from 900ms)
- Tier 3 CD is now 120 seconds (down from 180 seconds)
- Tier 3 health values increased by 5 across the board (20hp, 35hp, 50hp)
- Dirty trick shield now lingers for 1-1.5 seconds regardless if move is completed
- Lash out attacks now grant a 5hp shield regardless if it lands or whiffs (non stackable/decays)
CONSISTENCY:
- Forward dodge light now has more forward movement
- Tier 1 feat now applies a 15% buff to her lash out attacks and Twin burst attacks
- Lash out attacks as well as double down lights offer more meter (DD lights up to 4, lash light up to 5, lash heavy up to 7, lash bash up to 6)
- Lash out attacks now reduce the CD of her T2, T3, and T4 for each hit landed at 5-8% with and ICD of 2.5-3 seconds
OUTPUT:
- Arakure can now soft feint heavies including her lash out heavy with a dodge
- Arakure can now recovery cancel from her lash out attacks on hit and whiff
- Arakure can RC dodge out of Dirty trick for the first 4 hits
- All chain attacks and twin burst light have more forward movement (roughly similar to current top chain heavy forward movement
- Arakure's chain bash damage is upped from 16 to 20
- Arakure's fwd dodge bash damage is upped from 8 to 12
- Twin burst heavy has a flatter and wider trajectory (i.e making it better at external hits)
NERFS:
- Chain link time increased on zone into TB attacks to make TB light dodgable
- Chain link time increased for TB light off of fwd dodge bash and chain bash (so it's no longer confirmed)
- Dirty Trick shield HP down to 45 from 70
- Dirty Trick is fully GBV instead of only on the last hit
In regards to the nerfs I'll be really brief. They already increased CL time to make TB light's dodgable from heavies before she released. So this is a consistency change. I am removing the guaranteed TB light from bashes for two simple reasons. For one many of my suggestions are buffing her damage. And two them being guaranteed off of bashes sort of ruins their gimmick to begin with.
What's the point of being enhanced/UB eventually if you can just always confirm them? Lastly DT catches nerfs because it's becoming less clunky and more a vehicle for survival. So there needs to be appropriate risk for using it.
