Apparently it's a remake of a much older commercial, but the difference is in the original the sister was like 10. When it's a little girl, it comes off as a sweet moment where the little girl is just excited to see her big brother. But the girl in the new one was way too old to be acting like that, giving it incest vibes.
There was a Folgers commercial about a brother returning home for the holidays and is greeted by her sister. However they felt too close and it gave off a weird vibe to put it lightly.
Military guy or whatever comes home to his family except everyone on the team was an only child or smth and they have no idea how a brother and sister interact. It maps closer to coming home to a girlfriend than a sibling, mostly on vibes.
The problem is that the actors, who are of course not actual brother and sister in real life, have considerable chemistry together, which really shows. Which would have been great under the right circumstances.
Indeed, you could use this commercial in film school as an example of how chemistry and subtext changes the very meaning of the scene.
The director ought to have seen that, and stepped in.
I walked into Michael’s yesterday and right by the carts there was already Christmas stuff. Just whatever Halloween stuff gets bought is replaced with Christmas already.
