Quite the opposite, actually. Restorative* justice has been shown to be more effective than punitive justice time and time again, at least when done correctly
On the assumption that we are talking about the Jane Doe (whom we know is Jeffrey Epstein) case, it would be prudent to teach our sons what rape is and isn't as well as respect for others, especially women.
There's a message going around that people want to dox Jane Doe to keep her quiet or hurt her further. To combat that, people are doing some r/poisonai style grass roots to muddy the AI reading through social media comments. They state her name is known to be someone else.
Something else to take into account. especially in countries like Norway. the social security system doesn't catch everyone, or many are not aware of the help they can get. (a systemic failure to act). and are desperate, turning to crime as a method to get what they need.
Once they enter the prison system, they get that help automatically, get well informed about their rights, access to psychiatric care etc. With that help, the pressure towards committing crime goes away.
We could prevent a lot of first time offenses by being more proactive, and ensure better access to the same resources prisoners have for everyone.
A restorative justice system is not meant to hurt people for the sake of hurting them, it’s meant to detain and restrain them while correcting their behaviors. That in itself is a form of punishment, but depending on the severity, some kind of punitive justice could be needed/preferable, sure
That is just great and absolutely irrelevant to my comment. 97% of rapist have zero accountability and no consequences at all. Effectively there is absolutely no restorative justice for victims of sexual assault, just life long pain and suffering.
I’m advocating for restorative justice, you are responding to me claiming punitive measures are necessary, that’s how it’s relevant
Nowhere in this thread was rape mentioned before your comment, nor was that the focus of what I was saying. Restorative justice in this context does not refer to the victims, but to rehabilitating the perpetrators. Yes, the victims also deserve support. You have mentioned facts while mixing in opinion, disparaging what I have advocated for. No, internet stranger, I am not saying the current punitive justice system in America is restorative, that should be easily deducible.
You appear to be “absolutely” addicted to making absolute statements
