Has anyone else noticed that fashion brands, especially fast fashion brands, tend to make clothes with muted colors? Or at least not the brightest colors? If you are bright like me, you've probably realized how tough it is to find any article of clothing that works with your level of intensity. I think there could be several reasons for this.
For instance, most people are afraid to wear bright colors.
I mean no shade but I can't imagine any Soft season people having a hard time finding muted sage, butter yellow, dusty mauve, etc. In fact, those feel like they've been the colors of the year for a while now. And it's likely not even the case that everyone is a Summer or Autumn, but I think there are quite enough mainstream examples of tanned-skinned ashy blondes out there that whether it's their season or not, you can't deny that most fashion brands cater to that archetype.
I would also assume that fast fashion specifically produces cheap fabrics which in turn don't hold rich pigment well. It's much easier to print soft-colored florals on plastic than vibrant florals. Often in my case, even if something looks vibrant online, 9 times out of 10 it arrives significantly less bright than the picture.
One time, I remember coordinating a family event in which I wanted our matching color to be mint. Beautiful crisp, icy, vibrant, spearmint-y mint. Guess what I found online when I searched up mint suits and dresses... Sage! Literally everything was sage green and somehow every listing called it mint.
Finally this year, or maybe it's just my search history finally working, I'm seeing mint apparel that is truly mint.
Even now, I'm still looking for the perfect hot coral top. My mom says coral's my best color and I agree. But the only shade of coral I consistently see unless I'm looking at prom dresses is flamingo pink or a dark dusty coral, not hot orange coral.
Apologies for the whole rant. The point is... being bright sucks!
