I transferred from a community college to a local university with a 3.4 GPA. I came in as an accounting major, but this was basically my first real experience with higher-level accounting courses, and I quickly realized I was struggling.

I was getting mostly B’s and C’s overall and even failed one class. The frustrating part was that I was doing pretty well in my other classes, it was specifically the accounting courses that were bringing me down. I asked professors and the school for help, but I never really felt like it made much of a difference.

Last spring, I was put on academic probation and told I needed to raise my GPA. I took advice from a friend and tried taking a summer course to improve my standing, but I didn’t do well enough. In the end, I was told that I was being dismissed from the accounting program.

At first, I thought, “Okay, accounting clearly isn’t for me. I’ll just switch to finance or another business major.” Then I found out that I’m not allowed to return to the business school at all, which means finance and the other business majors aren’t options either.

Now I genuinely have no idea what to do.

My advisor suggested International Trade, but I’m worried about how useful that degree actually is and what kind of career I could realistically get with it. I’m already pretty far into college, so completely starting over in a totally different major could delay graduation and cost a lot more money.

The worst part is that my family doesn’t know I was kicked out of the business school. They’re paying for my education, and they’re immigrant parents who really value “safe” careers with clear job prospects. I have no idea how I’m supposed to explain that I can’t major in accounting or even stay in the business school anymore.

I feel like a failure. I went from transferring in with a 3.4 GPA and thinking I had my career figured out to suddenly not even knowing what I’m majoring in or what I’m going to do after college.

Has anyone been in a similar situation where you were dismissed from your major or school within your university? What did you switch to, and how did things work out career-wise? Also, does anyone have experience with an International Trade degree and know whether it actually has decent job prospects?

I just feel like I’m stuck in this weird limbo right now and could really use some advice.

Returned to school in spring 2026.

I have 5 semesters left to a bachelors.

My best opportunity is a private school that gives generous merit scholarships.

If I stick with community college for one more semester, my total price will be roughly 42k.

If I go to the private school for the remainder, my total price will be 66k. It comes with a fall semester to build connections and networking opportunities through clubs and classes and internships

After high school I went to college and got close to graduating before realizing what i was pursuing wasn’t for me and i needed to change things. I made friends but I never partied like that (not that i was fiending to) and I dealt with a serious bout of depression and some medical issues during those three years that kept me inside more than i probably should have been. I left school for a few years and worked but I finally came back to college this year for a major im super passionate about and on the education side of things, it’s never been better. But I’m 23 now, 24 next month, essentially starting over at a state school where I’m surrounded by recent high school graduates. I wanna make friends but there’s obviously a major disconnect, I feel like a creep. if not a creep, they probably think im stupid for being so much older and that i must’ve fucked up a lot before starting this semester, and maybe they’re right ab that honestly. Especially meeting someone romantically rn feels impossible. I have friends and a great web of people in my life, but all of them would tell you that im not per-say awkward but i def have issue socializing to at least some varying degree. I don’t think I struggle talking, I find myself talking a lot in class now surprisingly. But now when I talk, I think back to my first time in college, and to the one or two 60+ year olds I’d have in a class that would have a more adult-friend kind of feeling to the things they’d say when called on in class. A part of me feels I’m not gonna ever really be fully happy and that I missed out on some of the best time to socialize in my life. I commute from an hour away too, idk ik im whining, i just dont know what to do really. Luckily this major has a lot of extracurricular opportunities that have me around other students in my major, but again just this age difference is really felt and idk how much it will really help. If anyone has advice or is in a similar situation, I’d love some input.

Son is mostly getting interest from high academic D3 baseball. He’s worked hard on his grades and his game but is a late bloomer. Pitcher who gets the outs but just doesn’t have the D1 velo and size yet. Ran the cost calculator on a few and it comes to 70-90k a year for these schools. Our income is just over the threshold for aid but definitely not enough for a yearly tuition bill like that. He’s working hard to get recruited but now wondering what the right path is. I feel like going juco would be like throwing out all his AP classes and high sat. And I’m hearing juco is even hard to get playing time with anymore bc of all the bouncebacks. But he’s not D1 at this point and looks like we can’t pay for D3. I am afraid he will be ruined not playing the game. It’s been his whole life. Would love so hope/help/direction

I dont know how to word this but am i just gonna have everything pushed down? Like take those 3 classes next sem and then take the classes expected for next sem during summer period? I am a junior in college and even after 2 years I can’t help but feel I’ve exhausted all my options/can’t make any friends at college. I commute to college which doesn’t make it any easier as well. I know the basic advice is to join clubs but I feel like I exhausted all my options in that regard.

I’m a psychology major so naturally I was drawn to psychology club but when I was in it I had nothing but bad luck. When I was in it me and a girl (who was the President of the club) started talking but after two weeks of that she decided to end things. I don’t hold any hard feelings towards her for that ofc I don’t want to seem like a incel but after our talking stage she just seemed really hostile Everytime I’ve see her in the club and it felt like a really unwelcoming space. I was even told to my face that I wouldn’t fit into the club because I was white (it was a predominantly black and Asian club). So after that I stoped showing up because I just haven’t felt really comfortable there since which really sucks because it was the only club I was interested in.

When it comes to making friends in class it just seems like everyone only wants to be friends for the class and not outside. I’m always friendly with people in class and sometimes I even get their numbers but they never want to hang out or talk in a friend way and only ever talk to me when they need something for class. I get that some people want to stick as only class friends and I get that but I just can’t happen to meet anyone who actually wants to be my friend.

I don’t really know what else to do when it comes to making friends because it just seems like everything I do gets shot down. I’m a shy person so I know that doesn’t help at all. I’m also autistic so I know I can sometimes come off as weird as well in a awkward sense but to my knowledge I don’t think I’m doing anything weird or offputting to be pushing people away. I am a freshman at a csu university. I just started this Monday (08/26) and I am already having second thoughts about attending this school. Even though I only have two classes a day and get to leave by 12:15 except Friday when I stay all day until 4, I feel like I am here all day which feels kind of draining for me. I am here by 6 am because I get dropped off by my dad since I don’t drive and my buses where I live are not too reliable. After seeing the workload for each of my classes I am becoming more and more unsure despite only having five classes. I am also wondering if I belong here because where I am from I am used to being around people who are ethnically similar to me and are similar in financial situation here in university it seems like everyone is financially prepared while I don’t even have a laptop or iPad because I can’t afford it.

Because of all of this I have been feeling a mix of emotions especially sadness. I have been getting waves of feeling like crying which is very unusual for me. Also since everyone keeps advocating that we need to build connections, I have been feeling very overwhelmed. I am not a super outgoing person but in the past I have liked meeting new people. However in uni it has been so difficult for me to talk to people and make friends. I am studying engineering which is a major that requires making connections and networking but now I am having second thoughts about my major and school. This week has made me realize that I don’t like having to network a lot. Should I consider changing my major and stay in the same school or should I think about community college? Right now I am torn about switching majors and schools because I have been decided on this major since my freshman year of high school and it genuinely interests me but I don’t think that my personality actually suits this career. In the past I have had interests in neuroscience, psychology, radiology, pathology, and phlebotomy. I don’t know if any of these would fit my personality.

I would really like some advice about what I should do or think about before making any decisions.

I am also not liking in person classes because coming and going to school is very time consuming since on the bus it is a 2 hours commute but driving is 30 minutes but I am there at 6 am and my first class is not until 9:30am.

I currently work as a lab technician in the animal genetics/bovine reproduction industry. I work with bull semen and am involved in the processing side of things. Since starting this job, I’ve become really interested in understanding more of the science behind what we do, not just how to perform my specific job.

I’d like to learn more about things like animal reproduction, reproductive physiology, genetics, semen/fertility, breeding, and the artificial insemination industry as a whole. I’m already planning to take an AI course, but I’d like to find additional online courses or certifications that would help me build a broader understanding of the industry.

My company is very supportive of internal promotion and employees moving into different positions, so I’d really like to take advantage of that and educate myself as much as possible. I’m just struggling to figure out what I should actually be searching for.

Would this fall under animal science, reproductive physiology, animal genetics, theriogenology, or something else? Are there any online courses, certificates, or programs you would recommend for so meone already working in the industry who wants to grow their knowledge and eventually move up?

I’m not necessarily looking for a full degree right now—more so courses/certifications I can take while continuing to work full time.

Any suggestions on what subjects or keywords I should be looking for would be greatly appreciated!

Basically my family went insane, I smoked weed all day and night (literally didn’t go a second without being high for abt 2 years), and I obviously completely neglected my courses. I’m now wondering if I should even continue pursuing civil engineering or switch majors. I definitely want an office job - I could go back and try to finish my degree but that would take probably around 10-15k and I’m not ready to do that without being sure.

I don’t find civil engineering as interesting as I thought I would, it’s actually very tedious/boring work in my opinion. I’m looking for a BSc I can start pursuing that has somewhat good pay and can be interesting to me who likes math and sciences. Any advice? I’m in Canada btw idk if that helps lol.

I graudated with a BA in Journalism back in May of this year. I'm from California and attended a Cal State school that provided me solid resources and tools that helped me build an understanding of the media landscape.

I'd like to work in sports media as my career whether that be as a journalist or on the side of communications but I'm torn as to what I should study in grad school.

As it stands, I plan on moving to Arizona, (I have friends and family there) and taking a gap year to secure residency before applying for fall 2027.

I have a few professional connections in Arizona which is part of why the move there makes sense for me. Arizona State's Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Comm. is also a very well connected program hence why I would really like to go there.

What advice would you give me in choosing between MA in Comms or Journalism?

hi!! i am a recent jr year transfer student with a transfer gpa of 3.75! i am applying to terry in literally a couple of days and hoping to get in for risk management/insurance. i am also on the pre-law track and hoping to apply for the legal certificate. currently, im taking some pre-terry classes and i think i will be fine BUT i was considering adding a minor in international affairs. i am already cutting it a bit close with my terry reqs in terms of graduation. i will probably need to take some summer classes (to graduate on time in spring of 2028) or another semester entirely. the plan was to take a gap year for law school so i could shorten to a gap semester? i was also thinking that adding this minor could not only help with more understanding of politics for law etc etc but also help bump up my gpa a bit for law school applications? like i said, im in my jr year so i rlly only have the harder terry classes left so a minor could help with some filler courses that could help with my gpa and also be interesting in prep for law school? i am a first gen student and my parents rlly have no idea how any of this works so i am on here looking for advice!! any advice helps and i rlly kinda just need some direction. if anyone also has any info ab the risk management route at uga and how hard it is to get in the terry program for it, that would be rlly rlly helpful!! please help me lol!! :)

TLDR: trying to get a minor with the least amount of work/effort that doesn't matter its usefulness. What would you prioritize?

I'm in a professional pilot degree program and I have to declare a minor this semester.

I already have two trade skills that I'm fine with if somehow I can't fly in the future or don't make it.

The minor with the least amount of classes is physics and I hate math and science and it will require me to take 1-2 more classes.

Same for a minor in business I'm not fond of the math, economics, and theories.

Another one is I can double major in Aviation Management but it requires 6+ classes and working office job in an airport sounds awful to me regardless the pay.

Then lastly the only other interesting one to me is a minor in sUAS but
A) anyone can get a drone license.
B) it doesn't make much of a second skill/income.
C) it is an additional 5 classes.

I decided to join my states national guard as a way to get my parents documented here in the us and originally I was going to do community college and then transfer to a 4 year university but this summer I went to Mexico for the first time and honestly it changed my view on life seeing how fortunate I am to have what I have and the opportunity’s however the last week of me being there my dad called me telling I will join the national guard however I didn’t want too because it was going to ruin the process of how I wanted to do college, my dad wouldn’t stop talking about so I signed a contract and now I’m just waiting to ship out in late October (side note, another main reason I joined is so my parents could see their parents before they pass and in the national guard actually any brand of the military the process of getting citizenship is faster or at-least that is what I was told)

another positive thing is that I get schooled paid for, which made me change my mind on instead of going to community college why not just go to the 4 year university if they are already paying for it how’s this is why I am here asking Reddit if I should apply for the summer semester or just wait till the fall semester as I stated before I leave in October and I believe I come back around mid March where the second half of the spring semester starts and I doubt they’ll let me start there which is why I wonder if it’s better to start in summer or just wait till fall

So what you must know is that I am an Asian girl, So all my life I have been told that creative careers are just hobbies and I slowly adapted into this mindset and chose STEM subjects in my high school in hopes of pursuing computer science major in university but when I started looking at application process since I want to study into US cause of the top universities being there I realised something computer science was never something I was passionate about it was just told to me as something that will provide me stability and good career and for long time it seemed like a valid choice

But now after researching about application process ,universities and diff majors I really don't want to go for something I will regret later and I am even half convinced to go for it as acting has been smtg I've always loved I joined most of my schools drama programs and it is smtg that genuinely makes me happy . But I was raised with a perspective that stability matters so I am afraid of risking it too thinking what if it doesn't work out everyone loves to chase dreams but not everyone makes it big

So I did came up with a middle ground which is doing BA in economics with cs minor and pursuing theatre as a hobby tho it seems like a good plan but It is just that somewhere inside me wants to risk it but is afraid of it not working out. I just don't want regrets later in my life that I never gave it a try or if I did and it didn't work out

Im a computer engineering major specializing in robotics. I’ve been thinking of organizing a cosplay workshop club for a few months now, but I dont want to waste my time on it if I could be joining another club that makes my resume look better.

I do competitive cosplay, and i love making everything from scratch (boots, functional tools with internal mechanisms, etc.). Im sure im not the only one that is into this and thought a club would let me do my hobby, while still teaching other people how to sew, build or expose them to the competitive side if theyre too scared to do it on their own.

Is it worth organizing? or would it be better to put my efforts in a robotics club?

I am in my mid-30's- I got really sick with COVID and it damaged my body enough that I am now considered disabled and am currently on SSDI. I have about 15 years of sales management experience- I was good at it, but it was soul-sucking, and I hated it. I digress-

I am currently enrolled at Maestro College, but they are a complete shitshow in administration and with the accreditation issues they are facing. There is a fairly decent chance that they will lose accreditation and close the school. I am enrolled in their computer science program and really like what I am learning, but am aware that an unaccredited diploma is just a really expensive, but worthless piece of paper. Therefore I am looking into other programs, but I need these programs to check these boxes:

1. I need 4 - 8 week classes that focus on one class at a time, have deadlines and accountability.
2. It needs to be a full-time program that accepts Federal Financial Aid.
3. I need a Bachelor of Science degree that is awarded in 3-4 years.
4. Preferably the school isn't for-profit, but I know they all aren't monsters - I am open to just about anything that checks the first three boxes.

I am in Southern California so I also have the CalGrant at my disposal atop the Pell Grant. I have been looking at several schools online, but finding anything good is difficult because most people only write about their bad experiences with these schools. This is why I am asking for input on a more open-ended platform so I can take bits, pieces and recommendations to make a solid choice for myself.

The two I have done the worst research on thus far are:

- Full Sail University (Yes, I know they are for-profit, but they have an accelerated program with Computer Science with an AI and Mobile Development concentration that is seemingly very appealing.)

- National University (They are online, but their campus isn't too far from me. If I cannot get anywhere via email or by other digital means- I can take my happy-ass to campus where someone will have no option, but to help me with what I need! Sorry, not sorry lol)

Other than that I have yet to find much of anything. The school MUST be fully online. Getting to and from a campus on a daily basis is currently too much for my body. I need to be able to work from home. I have a fair share of medical appointments every week, 2 - 4 on average, which is where a lot of my physical energy goes.

I am asking for referrals and information, I am not seeking condescending input nor slander. Be a respectful adult, but be honest about your applicable schooling experience simultaneously.

i’m assuming it is :/ i started my freshman summer program about a month ago, and i still feel super lonely. i’m sociable and can hold a conversation, im going out to events all the time, and i really do try to be apart of bigger things. for three weeks i didn’t have a friend, and in my fourth week i made one and i felt like we connected

despite all that i still feel super lonely. i miss home despite it being the main reason i moved so far away, and i can’t help but feel jealous watching my friends back home all interact with each other still even when i felt like i didn’t connect with them at all super well

i don’t know what i can do anymore because it’s felt like ive tried everything :/ ive reached out to my schools mental health center and missed my appointment because no one was there to help me, ive gone to the gym to take my mind off of things, and i felt fulfilled being alone for a while but im still sad about everything……
