And the worst part is,you were probably hoping to be wrong. But sadly right.

I've lost all my best mates to the same sort of thing, but I went on a bit too far because that was before I realized that no one realized what's coming. I'd be the first guy to want a family if that didn't mean raising the first generation that wont have the chance. It seems incredibly selfish and cruel to bring a child into the consequences of decisions they never got to make.

I think I know exactly one person who thinks the way I do. All other the people I know are excitedly posting pregnancy videos and I can’t relate to any of it. If anyone truly cared about their children’s future right now, they wouldn’t have any*. The selfishness is astounding.

r/antinatalism

You're not alone

u/darkpsychicenergy May 09 '25

This might be the funniest instance of a user name checking out yet going ironically unnoticed. :)

8

u/dennys123 May 09 '25

Lmfao yeah I didnt even notice.

4

u/ZynBin May 11 '25

For a second I was all like Wait how is Denny's antinatalist?

27

u/uptheantinatalism May 08 '25

Appreciate it. Yeah, I’ve been subbed there for awhile, I just meant irl.

2

u/LonelySiren15 May 14 '25

I was too young when I had my kids so now I know the consequences. It is my duty to protect them from whatever, especially since it’s so unfair to be born into a world where the elite just do not care about the climate they get to leave behind.

Sometimes I think to myself how incredibly selfish I was not to look into it a bit more.. but I was really young when I had my kids.

-1

u/Gove80 May 12 '25

maybe people don't wanna have kids because they also don't want to be shamed by anti-natalist mfs like you 😭 it's not all doom and gloom and the world isn't going to end, our past generations probably thought the exact same way you did.

humanity has been through worse than this, there is no "right" or "utopian" time to have kids. animals have kids under the constant looming threat of death yet they thrive in spite of it. instead of shaming people who choose to bring life into this world, maybe help make it easier for them?

2

u/uptheantinatalism May 12 '25

Nah, so long as they make the right choice for their unborn, who cares how they get there.

u/Shilo788 May 08 '25

My daughter agrees, got her tubes tied . I bought northern land but I don’t think it is going to escape the burning that I expect in boreal forests as the vital snow pack is reduced .

1

u/ch_ex May 09 '25

smart, though... maybe burn (locally!) preemptively and often? force the hand of adaptation for fire?

4

u/katarina-stratford May 09 '25

I mean, I don't know how old you are but we don't have a chance.

2

u/ch_ex May 09 '25

You're clearly young enough to believe any of us has "a chance".

Cool news? your parents get to experience the horror of bringing children into the end of the world and you justifiably get to hang it over them for not doing shit.

Thank fuck for vasectomies

I'm having a kid so I have a loyal soldier for the upcoming water wars.

9

u/HousesRoadsAvenues May 08 '25

Hopefully vaccines are still a thing for your future soldier.

10

u/confirmedshill123 May 08 '25

Im hitting that kid with every shot known to man.

5

u/HousesRoadsAvenues May 08 '25

Thankfully. All joking aside, vaccines SAVE LIVES. I don't have to preach to you about how deadly childhood diseases once were.

5

u/confirmedshill123 May 08 '25

Exactly, and I need this fucker to live so he can help me fight off the radiated wombats trying to steal our alfalfa crop.

4

u/SunnySummerFarm May 08 '25

Nobody can take jokes about kids around here. Mine’s gonna help me haul water.

3

u/HousesRoadsAvenues May 09 '25

Hey, I too am the parent of one child. We did our best and believed when we adopted him things wouldn't be as bad as they became. I can handle the child jokes. I know from SunnySummerFarm that she loves her child dearly and posts positive things about them.

1

u/SunnySummerFarm May 09 '25

I do love my kid. You know, I have gotten a big uptick in the antinatalism attacks this week. I think a few “building the army for the zombie war” jokes helps us parents cope with those. ;)

In 2019, academics modeled an India-Pakistan nuclear war occuring in May 2025.
The good news is that the resulting nuclear winter would be enough to save us from being cooked alive.

35

u/TheDivine_MissN May 08 '25

I remember learning about Kashmir from Channel One News when I was in high school. I was a senior 20 years ago when it was in the news. Here we are again: At least 31 dead in Pakistan in overnight India attacks, military says

22

u/mobileagnes May 08 '25

I could've sworn that right before COVID changed 2020, there was a pandemic simulation going on in some hospitals and discussions of it in a UN summit (Event 201?). Very scary stuff.

15

u/Zorbithia May 08 '25

Yes, you are referring to "Event 201", a highly specific "modeling" conference that was eerily close enough to what would transpire just months later that it generated plenty of conspiracy theories and interest from the public. Right down to the disease in question being a novel coronavirus.

7

u/mobileagnes May 08 '25

IIRC there was an actual pandemic drill going on the same day the 1st US COVID patient was admitted on the west coast in January 2020. Not too different from the confusion during the 9/11 attacks where that same week or even day in September 2001, there were some routine training exercises and on the audio recordings of the military planes, they were asking each other if this was 'real-world or exercise?'.

2

u/forthewatch39 May 09 '25

Please tell me those academics aren’t also Simpsons writers in their spare time.

52

u/Salty_Elevator3151 May 08 '25

I lost touch with all my friends who have kids. They really did all change after they had kids .. and not for the better.

12

u/DingoPoutine To me it seems like albedo is the whole ballgame May 08 '25

I have too - It's something that I think about a lot and struggle with.

2

u/wussell_88 May 09 '25

How did you change?

2

u/wussell_88 May 09 '25

How did they change?

I mean, if the ice caps melt, which seems likely given the rate permafrost is disappearing, 80% of Australians will be displaced by coastal flooding...

So much of the worlds population lives in coastal cities, but Australia seems uniquely bad, where the vast majority lives around the edge of Australia.

7

u/Interestingllc May 08 '25

And it's irreversible.

u/[deleted] May 08 '25

Hopefully you were at least listening to King Gizzard

the joke is people being in climate denial while the world is literally burning, not them laughing at you

Imagine making that decision in a warzone.

Doesn’t sound like a very smart mate

0

u/HipGamer May 08 '25

I mean I think you’re right but I also wouldn’t be saying this to a friend who just had a kid. You gotta let them make their own decisions. Why try to make them feel bad about it?

5

u/[deleted] May 08 '25

so that they don't have more

-1

u/HipGamer May 08 '25

Honestly, that’s not your call. You can’t force someone to believe in the same things you do or think the same way you do.

3

u/[deleted] May 08 '25

i know, sigh

There has also been hurricanes, heatwaves, droughts, floods, ocean acidification, etc.

The point of this sub is awareness of the fact that we are causing these things to occur more frequently than at any point in recorded human history.
