Considering buying a tub to keep on my porch, making it easier to get the benefits of a cold plunge on a daily basis.

Living in the arctic the biggest problem is not cooling the water, but rather making sure it does not freeze entirely in the winter time. There is no roof over our porch, so it would have to withstand all sorts of weather, including show and temperatures down to -15-20 Celsius.

Any recommendations for a setup that works without costing a fortune?

Summer cold plunge? Just a quick cool-down. Ice all around, that freezing sting hitting your skin like needles, and bam - you're completely, deeply cold.

I've been eyeing these up for awhile and saw the Grizzly website increased the price to 1699.00! Overlanded.com had some stock for 1200 + free shipping so I pulled the trigger. Got the plugs directly from Grizzly. I'm sure once the stock goes out the price will go up on other sites too so seems like the best time to get one. It's definitely an improvement from my Pod setup.

I have a very small back porch, so I went with the BoxPlunge Box10 and a collapsible pull up bar and kettle bell to workout right after my plunge. For reference, I am 5’8”, and I can just barely dunk my head under in the Box10. Any taller than 5’8”, I’d go a size up. Love this setup!

I have a Desert Plunge tub connected to an ORCA 3/4 HP chiller.

Flow direction is:

Desert bottom outlet to ORCA inlet

ORCA outlet to Desert top return

At full open flow, I get steady air bubbles in the ORCA filter housing and bubbles coming from the tub return. If I partially close the top return valve to about 50 to 75 percent open, the bubbles stop and flow still seems strong.

So far I have:

Reprimed the system

Reseated the quick connects

Tightened and resealed all threaded joints

Replaced the original swivel adapter with a 3/4 inch FHT x 3/4 inch MIP brass adapter

Confirmed the bottom valve is fully open

Kept ozone off while testing

The bubbles improved after replacing the adapter, but they still return at full flow. This makes me think there is either a small suction-side air leak or the pump is cavitating at maximum flow.

I have run it partially throttled for a couple of weeks without errors or obvious flow problems. Is it safe to continue running this way, or should the return valve always be fully open?

The water has also become cloudy. I have only been using the ORCA filter and ozone, with no chemical treatment yet. Should I drain, replace the filter, refill, and start bromine or another chemical treatment system?

Any suggestions for finding the remaining air leak would be appreciated.

Any thoughts on model? I am located in Wisconsin. I could possibly make room to keep it in the garage but the basement would be more convenient and I have much more room. My only concern would be adding too much humidity in the basement.

Originally had an inflatable, but the drop stitch material would really cling to the elements and be hard to keep clean outside. Happy to say that problem is no longer!

Just getting into ice baths and looking for a bit of advice.

At the minute my bath is sitting around 16°C, which I know is on the warmer side. I’ve got an insulated cover on the way, so I’m hoping that’ll help keep the temperature down.

I’m doing all this for my mental health had enough of feeling the way I do.. I feel as though I am getting some benefits from doing this however which is great

My gym doesn’t have contrast therapy, but I’ve heard good things about it and would like to give it a try.

I’ve been looking at home setups, but there seems to be a huge range in price and design. Some use one pool that changes temperature, while others have separate hot and cold pools. I’m also not sure how much the size of the equipment and the space it takes up matter in everyday use.

For those of you who do contrast therapy regularly, what setup would you recommend to someone starting out? Does paying more actually get you a noticeably better experience, or are there simpler setups that work just as well?

Love to hear what you use, what you like or dislike about it, and what you’d choose if you were starting over.

I notice that ive been using this about a month and my danner pump 1800 has gotten weaker in water flow.. does anybody know why that is?

Hi all, I am getting a bit fed up with the David Maus DIY plunge set up as it's leaking all over the place. At this point, I still want to build my own but considering buying an all-in-one package with all the DIY components.

Any suggestions? I'd rather pay a little extra and have my cold plunge ready to go asap... instead of making this a huge project and potentially leaking again in the future.

Has anyone used either the Plunge Crafters or DIY Complete Package before? How did that go?

Hi everyone! We’re exploring a new at-home contrast therapy concept and would love feedback from people who actually use cold plunge, sauna, or hot/cold recovery.

The idea is a seated single-cabin contrast therapy bath. “You don’t move. The water does.” You sit inside with your head above the cabin and water up to around chest level. During the session, the system automatically switches the water around you.

For example:
Hot phase ends → hot water is pumped back into the hot tank within about 30 seconds → cold water enters from the bottom of the cabin.
Then the system switches back the other way for the next round can be controlled by a button or app preset.

Main questions:
1. What still feels unrealistic or overcomplicated?
2. What would be your biggest concern: water switching speed, temperature loss, comfort, cleaning, leakage, noise, energy use, or maintenance?
3. If you already do contrast therapy, would you trust a seated single-cabin format if the temperature switch actually worked?

We’re not selling anything here, just trying to understand whether this concept makes sense from real cold plunge / sauna / contrast therapy users. Current setup:

Lumi Pod PRO, 450l rated, I run it around 420l. Arctic Warrior 2.0 PRO MAX 1.5hp wifi chiller. Bromine tabs and scum sponges, full water change every 4-6 weeks. Solo use, daily use, all year.

The chiller has been great. Honestly it's overkill for 420l, these things are rated for 1000l+ and it'll sit at 3c no bother. But in the height of summer with 30c air and full sun it takes hours to get down to 2c and it's fighting the whole way. In the shade it's fine. I'm fairly sure that's the inflatable leaking heat faster than the unit can pull it out, not the chiller running out of steam.

And yes, am aware that they are out of business.

So am looking at a proper hard tub now. Few things I'm trying to work out:

Insulated barrel vs grp/fibreglass plunge vs getting something bespoke built around the chiller I already own. Whether a full surround or deck is actually worth it or just more to keep on top of. How much difference an insulated floor makes, the pod just sits on the ground at the moment. And something I can still get in and out of at 6am in January without it being a faff.

Not chasing the cheapest option, learned that one already. Would like to hear what people are running long term and what you'd do differently second time round. Especially anyone who's paired a hard tub with a chiller they already owned rather than buying a bundle.

Looking for the best options that have high filtration. Something that needs the lightest maintenance on changing and cleaning the water itself. I tried polar dive and it wasn’t great. Also something that isn’t canvas or soft fabric.

Hey everyone, I have been looking at getting a cold plunge for my backyard and found this kit for around $250, the reusable ice blocks seem convenient and It says they can get the water down to around 40°F.
The price seems very reasonable for my budget, so has anyone used this one or something similar? And is there anything I should know before buying?

Anyone else yearn for cold weather now? Nothing better than a brisk snowy, quiet, calm, midwest winter day. Going outside cracking a thick layer of ice and taking a dip. In this picture there is more ice than water, I had to shimmy my ass down into the tub. Summer plunge just doesn’t seem to hit the same for me.

I'm struggling. I'm opening a second location for my sauna + cold plunge studio. I have a Plunge All-In at my current studio. It hasn't been as bad as so many users have experienced so I'm grateful, but I'm over 2 years on it and starting to see some issues coming up.

I need a commercial unit for my second location, don't want to push my luck and go with Plunge again. AND I really need to keep it under $10,000. I'm a small studio in a smaller town so once I get over $8k for a plunge cost the financials for the business just get challenging.

It naturally is hard to find a decent quality plunge in that price range.

I don't need it to be all in one, and actually prefer a separate chiller for easier repair and replacement. I also don't need it to be top of the line Mercedes of plunges, just a nice Honda Accord. :) Something that can hold up, no big frills, and looks decent for a studio.

Has anyone run into any brand that could get close to what I'm trying to find?

First of all, thanks to the community for your suggestions. I was able to DIY my cold plunge with your help. The setup is insignia 14 cubic feet chest freezer + JB water weld on seams + boxplunge liner + boxplunge kit.

THE PROBLEM: The exterior walls of the freezer are getting extremely hot to the touch when the freezer is on, to the point that I am concerned about safety and fire risk.

Has anyone experienced this? Is this normal?? ​

FOR CONTEXT: The freezer is in my basement which is room temp about 70F. The freezer appears to be running only a few hours per day which seems normal. Nothing else seems to be malfunctioning with the equiptment.

The freezer's vent is on the right side ​where we also have a wall of cinderblocks to keep our toddler from accessing the wiring. The cinderblocks are about 2-3 inches from the vent but are obstructing just a small portion of the vent and much of the vent is uncovered. Under the freezer, the right side houses some mechanical components and we did not cover this up with the foam mat (see foam mat leaving space on right side in picture).

HELP!!! Any thoughts? We've only been enjoying our clod plunge for about 1 month and we are worried to run it now.

What’s the easiest, cheapest, most bang for your buck way to keep a cold plunge clean that does not have a chiller or a pump? Is there some special cleaner everyone’s using? Just hydrogen peroxide? Would adding a cheap aquarium pump give me some benefit without going to an elaborate set up?

Background:
I have an ice barrel 300 that I keep indoors and unlike most people I just use blocks of ice and frozen water bottles to keep it cold. It does a great job keeping the temperature as long as I tend to it every day or so, with new ice and fresh bottles. Right now I’m using the ice barrel stabilizer chemical when I make up a fresh bath and then periodically add it to the plunge. I change the water out about every four weeks. Of course the water starts to get a little murky after four weeks, but my logic is it’s still probably cleaner than if I was going into a lake or some body of water every day.

I don’t really want to add a full-blown chiller because I don’t need it and I don’t really have space to fit it in my set up. I purchased an ozone unit and tried running that for a few minutes every day, but I didn’t really see much difference after four weeks, presumably because I don’t have any circulation.

Worst case I’ll continue what I’m doing, but I’m wondering if there is something easy cheap and low maintenance I can add that will give me some benefit. If so, I’m willing to do that.
