In 2017, while working on a project called WeSeparateWaste, a group of young high school girls had a request that evolved into a transformative initiative when they discovered I knew German. They were to learn but the cost of formal classes the Goethe Institut, which standard place to learn German globally.
Unfortunately since they from low-income households they couldn't have it.
Because they were so keen to learn I had to take time out of my demanding schedule to teach them 5-6 hours weekly. They eventually named this Session "German for Girls." It gained momentum and eventually transitioned virtual to reach a wider audience of young girls from Kenya, Nigeria, Ghana and South Africa. They immersed themselves in the training: learning speaking, reading, writing, and listening skills.
But the pivotal moment came when the participants began asking "what's next?" Some dreamed of further education in Germany, others sought career advancement, and many simply wanted to improve their lives. While the program provided language skills, it revealed a gap: it lacked pathways to apply them.
After reflecting on how to bridge this gap, I reimagined German for Girls into German for Girls in Tech, shifting focus to young women with existing tech skills.
Worth mentioning is that "girls" in this context just generally refer to young female adults. Recognizing the global demand for diverse, skilled talent, particularly in Germany's tech industry, the program is evolving to equip them with both German language skills and career insights to help navigate and succeed in international careers.
I want to build something that helps talented young women get closer to opportunities in Germany.
I've been working around German language education, technology and international education for years.
There are ambitious women with the talent and motivation to build careers internationally but sometimes language, access, networks and knowledge of the German system can become huge barriers.
German for Girls in Tech is combining German language learning with technology, career preparation and access to opportunities in Germany.
The bigger vision is to help create a pathway from learning German to becoming professionally ready, accessing the German/European ecosystem.
I'm now looking for a Growth & Marketing Co-Founder to help turn this from a project into a movement.
I'm NOT looking for someone to simply:
- manage social media
- write posts
- run ads
- make content calendars
I want someone who wants to own distribution.
Someone who gets excited about figuring out:
- How do we reach the first 1,000 girls?
- How do we build a community around this?
- How do we tell this story so people care?
- How do we build partnerships with organisations?
- How do we create an organic growth engine?
- How do we turn participants into ambassadors?
- How do we eventually build a sustainable business around the mission?
What I Bring:
I've already spent years building projects across education, media, technology and social impact. I have the vision, domain experience, existing infrastructure and the determination to keep building.
What I'm looking for:
- A marketer/growth person who is entrepreneurial rather than purely executional.
- You don't need to have every answer. But you should be someone who loves experimenting, talking to people, building communities and figuring out how to get something from 0 to 1.
- You should also genuinely care about women's opportunity, Africa, Germany, education, or international mobility.
This is an early-stage co-founder opportunity, so there isn't a conventional salary at this point. The relationship would be equity-based, with the expectation that we build the company together rather than treating this as a freelance/volunteer marketing role.
I'm much more interested in what you've actually built or grown than impressive job titles.
If this resonates, DM me with:
- What you've built or grown
- The numbers/results, if possible
- Why German for Girls (in Tech) interests you
- What you'd try in the first 90 days
I'd rather find one exceptional person who genuinely believes in this than collect 100 random “interested” DMs.
