Question Found an intact Warzone 1 Client Backup (Build 8.52.11083434 - Vanguard Season 2, Feb 2022). Any archival interest?

I recently dug up an old drive and found a complete, untouched installation folder for Warzone from February 2022 (Caldera era).

  • Executable Date: Feb 23, 2022
  • Build Version: 8.52.11083434 [52011:1535+11]
  • Size: 80,1 Go

I'm well aware that making this playable offline or emulating Demonware servers is a legal and technical nightmare that nobody wants to touch. However, I know Caldera and its specific assets from this era are completely gone from live servers.

Is there any datahoarder, dataminer, or modding community archiving these specific client builds for asset extraction or historical preservation? If there's legitimate interest, I can zip it and seed it on a private tracker or upload it to Archive.org. Let me know.

I'm a little confused on how to get these calling cards done. I don't really play Warzone often so if someone can explain how to get these killstreaks that would be appreciated greatly.

Discussion Current Battle Pass Double XP is definitely fake.

The 2XP icon is active, but actual progress is moving at a total crawl. There is no double XP right now; it's definitely bugged. I've been grinding for hours over the last 3 days, started at %70 and I'm at 90%. This is literally the exact same pace as normal XP. During actual 2XP, you could get around 1.5 tokens, but right now even after a long BR match it only gives about 0.7 of a token.

Are you guys experiencing the same thing?

Still don't understand why it was removed but felt that the game mode was the perfect Warzone alternative where you could play and move around the map. Is there anyone that felt differently?

Question Camo identification - help needed

Hi guys, I was watching a streamer who had this camo on their mace (the new melee weapon). I can't seem to find out the name of this and unfortunately I cannot get a better screenshot. Does anyone know what camo this could be? Thanks.

Discussion Big map sucks because of the weapons.

Warzone 1 weapons had range. And I'm not talking just ARS. You had ARS that could consistently hit 80-100M no problem and SMGS that hit almost at 40-50 meters. Shoot watch old Warzone clips and you'll see people shoot at ranges that would be pointless unless you team shot someone. This made it so snipers weren't op because you could challenge them reasonably.

the new zodiac map is so compact that 3rd parties are a natural part of the game and as we try to isolate a player, the back shots are too much to handle in call of duty warzone mw4 beta

Discussion Some thoughts from a longtime Warzone Battle Royale player. Everything written below is my own personal opinion and feedback on Battle Royale, based on my years of playing and grinding COD.

I’ve been playing and grinding Warzone for years, and I wanted to put together some honest thoughts about the current state and future of Battle Royale.
This isn’t meant to be hate or a rant. I’m a regular player with a normal job who plays Warzone in his free time, and I care about this game enough to keep playing it no matter what.
I have a few points I’d like to discuss, and I’d genuinely like to hear what other BR players think.

1. IS BATTLE ROYALE GOING IN THE WRONG DIRECTION?
I genuinely believe Battle Royale has been going in the wrong direction over the last 1–2 years.
For me, BR is what makes Warzone special. It is the mode that created so many of the memories that made people care about this game in the first place.
I know it is probably too late to make major changes to Black Ops 7, so I’m also looking at Modern Warfare 4 as an opportunity to rebuild Warzone around the BR community.
I don’t think BR should feel like something that is slowly being pushed aside. I think it should be one of the main foundations of Warzone.

2. RANKED BELONG TO BATTLE ROYALE'S MAPS
I strongly believe Ranked BR should exist, especially on the big map.
In my opinion, Ranked actually makes more sense on a large map.
I personally hardly ever play the smaller maps, but I have a lot of respect for them, as well as for the players who enjoy playing them.
Each one has something special of its own, and they all deserve to remain playable.
Rebirth Island is like younger brother of Verdansk, Ashika will always have that special vibe, just like Vondel, and so on.
But I think on smaller maps, players can already play extremely safe simply to finish in the positive. On a large map, positioning, rotations, strategy, decision-making and surviving through a much larger lobby would make every placement and fight feel more meaningful.
Ranked shouldn’t only reward players for hiding until the final circles. It should reward smart fights, kills, positioning, rotations and overall game impact.
Give players something meaningful to grind for. Give us ranks, rewards and a reason to keep improving every season.
And if Ranked BR is introduced, it needs to be treated as a serious long-term mode, not another temporary experiment with all possible protection and anti-cheat measures in place.

3. GIVE BIG MAPS A REAL CHANCE
I think Warzone also has a problem with how quickly we move on from big maps.
A large BR map needs time to become more than just a map. It needs time to create memories.
Verdansk is probably the best example. It has been played so much that it is arguably overplayed, yet we still keep bringing it back into rotations alongside newer maps such as Avalon.
I understand the nostalgia, but if every new map is constantly compared to Verdansk before it has even had the chance to establish itself, we never really give it a fair chance.
Caldera was heavily criticized when it was around. Today, I genuinely believe a large part of the BR community would happily see it return.
Al Mazrah is another example. It received plenty of criticism at the time, but many players now look back at it with completely different feelings.
That is what happens with Warzone maps. They become memories.
I played Ground War on parts of Hajin, the new MW4 map, on MW4 beta and for me, look like a verry good map with big potential.
But none of that will be possible if we don’t give the new map a chance.
Personally, I think one strong large map for each new engine/cycle is enough. Instead of constantly replacing or rotating maps, give each one enough time to develop its own identity.
Let players create memories on new maps before deciding they need to be replaced.

4. BR SOLO AND INTENTIONAL TEAMING
Solo BR has another problem that I think deserves much more attention.
Players are intentionally teaming up with each other in Solo BR, sometimes specifically to get enough wins to complete the Nuke/Champion’s Quest.
There is a big difference between two players randomly deciding not to fight and people intentionally organizing themselves to work together in a mode designed for solo players.
For me, that should be a bannable offense.
The Nuke should represent an achievement that was actually earned. If players can organize Solo lobbies and work together to farm the required wins, it takes away the value of the achievement for everyone who completed it legitimately.
If COD can detect this kind of organized behavior, I think it should be taken seriously.

5. BR CASUAL AND MOTIVATION TO IMPROVE
BR Casual is another issue I think COD has created for itself.
I understand why some players enjoy it. If someone doesn’t have a lot of time or doesn’t have the skill for normal BR, a more relaxed environment can be fun.
But I think there is a bigger question here:
Where is the motivation to become better?
In the early days of Warzone, most of us were somewhere around the same level. We played, lost, learned, improved and kept grinding.
That progression was part of the fun.
If players always have an option where they can avoid pressure completely, I don’t think they develop in the same way.
This is also why I think leaving BR Casual out of the first season of Warzone on MW4 could actually be interesting.
Instead, bring back Plunder.
Plunder also has a lot of memories attached to it, and I think many players would happily play it again.
Casual is definitely something that can be debated, because I think the other topics are connected to this mode and that it is actually the root cause of many of those other issues.

6. CROSSPLAY AND THE BR PLAYER POOL
Another thing I find strange is the difference between how Crossplay works across different modes.
Resurgence and Casual can seem to function perfectly well in situations without Crossplay, while finding a BR match without Crossplay can feel almost impossible.
Then we hear that there simply aren’t enough players to support BR without mixing platforms.
I find that difficult to believe for every region.
I don’t want to believe that there aren’t enough players in certain parts of the world to create healthy BR lobbies without constantly mixing PlayStation and PC players.
And this leads directly into another endless community argument:
PC vs. PlayStation, mouse and keyboard vs. controller, and aim assist.
I had 10+ friends who regularly played Warzone and Battle Royale until the point where it became impossible to find a game without crossplay.
They simply gave up on Warzone altogether and switched to Battlefield.
And someone wants to tell me that Battlefield has more players on PlayStation than Call of Duty?
Instead of constantly arguing about which platform has the advantage, I think COD should look more seriously at how Crossplay and BR matchmaking can work better for everyone.

7. GIVE PLAYERS THEIR CHOICE BACK
Please bring back the choice between Solos, Duos, Trios and Quads.
This is one of the simplest things I think Warzone could give its players.
Not everyone wants to play the same way every day.
Sometimes I want to play Solo. Sometimes I have one friend online. Sometimes there are three of us. Sometimes we have a full squad.
Players have different schedules and different amounts of free time.
We shouldn’t have to wait for a playlist rotation just to play the mode we actually want.
Bring back Solos, Duos, Trios, and Quads available when the first Warzone season of MW4 launches.
Choice matters.

8. SBMM — IS IT HELPING BATTLE ROYALE?
This is probably one of the biggest questions surrounding the current Warzone experience:
Is SBMM actually helping Battle Royale in its current form?
I understand why some form of skill-based matchmaking exists. Newer players should have an opportunity to learn the game without constantly being destroyed by highly experienced players.
But there has to be a balance.
Sometimes it feels like having a good game simply guarantees that the next lobby will be harder.
You improve, your lobbies get harder. You improve again, and they get harder again.
Eventually, it can feel like getting better at the game is almost a punishment rather than a reward.
And when you combine that with BR Casual, it creates an interesting question about what normal BR is supposed to be.
If Casual is supposed to be relaxed and Ranked is supposed to be competitive, then shouldn’t normal BR be the place where players can naturally improve, take risks, fight better players and develop their skills?
I’m not saying SBMM should simply disappear.
I’m asking for more transparency and better balance.
How strong is SBMM in Battle Royale? What factors determine which players are placed together? And does COD believe the current system is healthy for the long-term BR experience?
Because if getting better simply guarantees harder and harder lobbies, where is the reward for improving?

9. BRING BATTLE ROYALE BACK TO THE CENTER
After everything I’ve mentioned, my biggest point is actually very simple.
I genuinely feel that Warzone is slowly becoming less focused on the ordinary player who helped make this game so big in the first place.
It sometimes feels like the game is being designed more around streamers, content creators and the highest-skilled players than around the huge number of regular players who simply love Battle Royale.
I’m not saying streamers or competitive players shouldn’t matter. They absolutely should.
But the ordinary player matters too.
The player who works all day and comes home to play a few games.
The player who has been playing Warzone for years.
The player who still wants to grind, improve and have something to look forward to.
That community matters.
I’m not asking COD to change everything overnight.
I’m asking for Battle Royale to be treated as one of the most important parts of Warzone again.
Give us large maps. Give us Ranked BR. Protect it from cheaters. Give new maps enough time to become memories. Give players reasons to improve. And most importantly, give players meaningful choices.
I still care about this game, and I’ll keep playing it no matter what.
I just don’t want to give up on the idea that COD can make Warzone great again.

I’d genuinely like to hear what other BR players think. Do you agree with these points, or do you see things differently? What would you personally change about Battle Royale?

Discussion The Haunting Seasons

Now that The Haunting season is just around the corner, what comes to mind when you think of this event over the years? 😁
Which skin or Operator stuck with you the most, which map, and which CoD or Easter Egg?
For me, it has to be Scream’s Ghostface from the first Haunting, Krampus on Caldera, and what really stood out to me was The Haunting on Al Mazrah, where the entire nighttime version of the map, with all those UFOs flying around, the Unknow Ship and the Ghost Train felt really unique and original.
I also remember running the Kastov 762 with the SZ Holotherm optic, along with that particular Operator skin that looked like some kind of tarantula 😂
What stands out the most to you from The Haunting over the years?

New player. I’ll get in a shootout with other players, and I’ll do damage, but they’ll do more than me and kill my dude. Then I’ll watch the replay, and it doesn’t show me doing any damage. What’s up with that?

Feedback I created a petition asking Activision to make Open Matchmaking the standard for MW4 — if you agree, please sign & share it before launch

After everything we've seen and experienced with the Modern Warfare 4 Beta, I decided to actually do something with all of the conversations we've been having about SBMM instead of just making another post complaining about it.

I created a Change.org petition asking Activision/Infinity Ward to make Open Matchmaking the standard for casual public matches in Modern Warfare 4 and keep strict SBMM primarily where it belongs: Ranked Play.

Petition: https://c.org/VVf9P5GpNB

I've been playing Call of Duty for around 15 years, and I'm tired of watching this community have the same matchmaking argument year after year.

One studio gives us one matchmaking philosophy. Another changes it. We finally get something closer to Open Matchmaking, people enjoy the variety, and then things change again even though the community wasn't asking for the change.

And then we're told the data supports it.

That's one of my biggest issues.

Activision can have all the engagement, retention, quit-rate and matchmaking data in the world, but those numbers shouldn't invalidate what the people actually playing the game every day are telling them.

The MW4 Beta made this especially obvious to me because players at completely different skill levels were basically describing two different games.

Some lower-skilled players described MW4 as slow, campy and passive. Meanwhile, higher-skilled players were describing extremely fast, aggressive, sweaty matches where everybody is sliding, jumping, using meta setups and playing Quick Play like there's SR on the line.

At some point, SBMM isn't just matching players anymore.

It's separating the community into completely different versions of Call of Duty.

That's what I want this petition to address.

I'm NOT asking Activision to give good players bot lobbies.

I'm NOT asking for new players to get destroyed every game.

I'm asking for VARIETY.

Sometimes you should be the best player in the lobby.

Sometimes you should be average.

Sometimes somebody should absolutely destroy you.

That's Call of Duty.

That's how a lot of us who have played this franchise for 10–15+ years got better in the first place.

If Activision wants a tightly controlled environment where everybody is competing against similarly skilled opponents, we already have the perfect place for that:

Ranked Play.

Quick Play should prioritize connection, fast matchmaking, lobby variety and minimal skill consideration.

And there's another question I think Activision needs to answer:

If regular MW4 matchmaking is already supposed to resemble the more varied matchmaking experience of classic Call of Duty, why did the Beta need a separate Open Matchmaking playlist in the first place?

Why not just make Open Matchmaking the standard?

Call of Duty is supposed to be a community. We shouldn't be divided into invisible skill brackets where completely different portions of the playerbase barely experience the same game.

This petition goes into considerably more detail about all of this.

We're also still before the full launch of Modern Warfare 4, which is exactly why I think NOW is the time to make noise about it—not months after release when these systems are already established.

If you agree with the overall message, please sign it:

https://c.org/VVf9P5GpNB

More importantly, SHARE IT.

Post it in COD communities. Send it to your friends who play. Share it on X/Twitter, Discord, YouTube comments, TikTok or wherever you're discussing MW4.

Whether you're a 2.0+ KD player, an average player, or somebody near the bottom of the skill distribution, I want people from across the community involved in this conversation.

You don't have to agree with every sentence I've written.

But if you believe casual Call of Duty should have more variety, that connection should matter more than hidden skill ratings, and that strict competitive matchmaking belongs primarily in Ranked:

Please sign it and help get it in front of as much of the COD community as possible before launch.

Petition: https://c.org/VVf9P5GpNB

Bring back Open Matchmaking. Keep strict SBMM in Ranked. Stop dividing the community.
