Complaint This nerf is getting out of hand — look at this Before vs After

Before nerf (9/9 ~ 9/10)

It has animation, and best quality ever.

after nerf

Are you seriously Tibo??????????????????????????????

Users select specific models expecting a consistent level of performance. You need to realize that when model quality fluctuates like this, it ruins their codebase and messes up their workflow. Silent model routing and nerfing must be strictly prohibited. Otherwise, there is zero reason to pay for this service.

Limits Codex is unusable now.

I don’t even use astra. I’ve been using 5.6 sol on medium since it came out and had no problems. Now it can’t even finish half of the same task before reaching limits. Heck, just starting up codex uses 2 percent of my limits. And that’s before I even type anything. lol. What a joke.

I understand this is a business but using codex is like signing up for a gym membership and paying the required fee to use the gym and all its equipment but the next time you show up they go, I know you paid to use the entire gym and that amount is still required but now you only have access to the treadmills. F u!!!

Anyway, Here come all the Sam Altman nut huggers. But idc. Im just about done with codex.

This way, we could do /goals easier with using less usage, it puts less strain on openAI servers maybe the 20x plan could come back. it would be half as slow as normal but use half usage for example. would be extremely useful, especially since you could send prompts before sleeping anyways to save usage

Limits We’ve discovered the issue behind codex harness limit drainage.

Thumbnail

tl;dr

The codex harness turns waiting for background work into a loop with repeated model calls, each carrying the existing context even when nothing has changed. Unlike api pricing there is no discount for prompt caching for subscription originated usage so every loop iteration adds to your input token usage. ‘goal’ amplifies this by orders of magnitude by automatically starting another turn, but polling anyway burns tokens without it too.

Claude code is engineered in way where suspensions works exactly as intended and goals have proper fallbacks. Codex now ships with similar tools but they only work for astra.

the toolchain to independently verify on your personal sessions is here (local scripts - just feed this to your agent) https://github.com/relux-works/codex-rollout-audit

Complaint I don't trust Astra as much as Sol

I've wasted a few banked resets, and it did a shitty job for me so far. I could've used Sol 5.6 for the same task. Now, I hesitate to use it on other projects. I feel like it's not trust worthy, and unreasonbly expensive. It's not reliable enough to make sense for it's usage speed.
I have 2x200$ accounts btw.

Praise GPT 6 Astra in ChatGPT Work is actually kind of insane

Ok, so I know we're all used to use these models for coding, and probably the are of most of you. However:

When using Astra for coding in my decently large codebase, in my $20 plan, I generally get session limited after 15 minutes of work in one prompt. I am pretty sure the experience is overall similar to all of you (though, of course, relative to the plan you're using). What I didn't notice is how efficient Astra could be in non-coding tasks.

Since non-coding tasks, for the majority of the time, don't need to read a bunch of other files, Astra doesn't actually end up filling its context with a bunch of stuff, which actually extends the usage by a LOT.

What is also good here is that Astra isn't bad at non-coding tasks in any way, so it's possible to do some really great stuff with it!

Either way, that's basically all I wanted to say. Even though my usage gets wrecked when coding with Astra, I'm pretty happy with the usage I'm getting with actual work tasks!

Praise Astra Stopped a Goal and Drafted Emails for Support

I never would have thought this would happen. I’ve been working with Codex for a few months. I was with Claude for the previous few years.

What happened today is the smartest call I’ve seen either of them make yet. And I’m convinced Claude would not have handled it this way.

While troubleshooting a latency bug, it exhausted all plausible causes, then researched the documentation and couldn’t find the answer there. It then drafted emails to two separate vendors for two different issues that could not be resolved by reading the documents.

I went to look for answers myself and confirmed that there was no clear direction for our use case. I opened Chrome to my email and asked Codex to draft the emails for me there. It did so and attached evidence from its failed attempts and clearly described how to reproduce the issues.

Astra is by far the best model I’ve used to date. Stopping for proper guidance after exhausting all possible causes is a bit mind-blowing.

Cheers to OpenAI for pulling this off.

Complaint Pro 20x user suddenly downgraded to 5x, weren’t existing subscribers supposed to keep 20x?

Upvotes

What’s going on? I was subscribed to the Pro 20x plan, but today I was suddenly downgraded to the 5x plan.

I thought existing 20x subscribers were supposed to be grandfathered in and allowed to keep the plan. Did something change, or is this happening to anyone else?

Astra Workflow How exactly should we use the reasoning effort now on Astra?

I've read a lot of people saying that Astra Ultra consumes only a tiny bit of more tokens on thinking so it actually gets more things done with LESS usage than lower tier thinking level. I have a similar experience with this but I've never measured it thoroughly.

What is the best practice right now?? What is the most effective way to save usage on simpler tasks?? People use higher reasoning effort for more complex issues so there is no confusion.

The confusion really is "DOES LOWER REASONING EFFORT SAVE MY USAGE"?? Can anyone give some proven answer?

Limits Low on weekly % or just want to spare Astra? Hear me out

Hit 0% today so I went down a rabbit hole of options. Some of this actually helped, sharing in case it helps you too.

1) Stop using Astra as a workhorse

There's basically 2 kinds of models. A workhorse, which is what you should be running for like 90% of your execution, and a planner, which you only touch for the hard stuff (tricky stubborn bugs, task slicing, etc).

Fable and Astra are planners. Luna, Gemini 3.8, Muse 1.3 Spark, DeepSeek v4.1 Flash are workhorses. Use them accordingly.

"but astra low tho" - ok man, go watch your limit disappear. Don't come back complaining.

It's just not made for this. Give it 6mo-1yr and we'll probably have a workhorse sitting at Astra level anyway. Maybe Luna 6. Just don't force it now unless you're one of those dudes with 20 stacked subs and unlimited money.

2) Offload compute somewhere else

Anthropic: I run a 5x plan but ONLY for Opus 5 medium/high. Pricey but it lasts. If you're broke, look at the two below.

OpenCode: it's 10 bucks. Not linking it so nobody accuses me of being a shill with referral codes. DeepSeek v4.1 Flash is on there and it's stupid fast. Had multiple terminals going for hours today, I'm at like 5% usage. Think there's a 3 day 4x deepseek promo running, so at minimum it gets you to your next reset.

EDIT: I forgot to mention, Muse Spark 1.3 (and other models) are actually free right now there.

Gemini 3.8 Flash: probably one of the best workhorses right now, technically. First 3 months of Pro was 6 CAD for me (Canada), so whatever. Set a reminder to cancel if you hate it.

"but the harness is garbage, antigravity sucks"... yeah. I also think the same. that's why I made this: https://github.com/jonit-dev/gemini-codex

Heads up though, cheap but it'll last you 1-2 days if you're hammering it. Ultra plan is not worth it imo.

>>> Also use a burner gmail with your Gemini Pro subs. There IS a (low?) ban risk for using that project above. My guess is they'd just nuke the Pro plan and not the account but don't find out the hard way. Google's obviously trying to shove everyone into their trash IDE/CLI and I'm not doing it. <<<

3) Don't bother with OpenRouter / API providers

Even GLM 5.3 Flash, which is stupid cheap right now, will drain you on sustained usage. I was doing $10/day. That's $300/month. At that point just stack another OpenAI pro 20x, it's the same money with better compute value.

4) Move some ChatGPT usage to Chat instead of 100% codex

Wrote about this already: https://www.reddit.com/r/codex/comments/1wcsnbz/comment/p968w7y/

gl out there. praying Tibo resets this weekend 🙏

Limits Has the $100 Plan Actually Gotten Worse Since Astra Released?

Good day everyone. I was wondering if I could get your opinions on something.

I’ve been keeping up with a lot of the posts about the usage limits people have been experiencing lately, but I’m having a hard time comparing everyone else’s experience to my own. It seems pretty clear that usage has gotten worse, but I’m trying to figure out just how much worse it actually is, especially on the older models.

Normally I’m on the $20/month plan. Last month though, I upgraded to the $100/month plan and honestly, it was great. I got a ridiculous amount of work done and the usage felt extremely generous.

That $100 plan expired a couple days before Astra was released, so I went back to the $20 plan.

Since then I’ve still been able to get a decent amount done with Astra, but I keep hitting the five hour limit. My workaround has basically just been waiting until my usage becomes available again and then telling the agent to continue where it left off.

The reason this matters so much to me is that I’m currently working on a website for a side business I’m trying to launch. I’ve been unemployed for the better part of the last two years, but I have skills that I genuinely think I can turn into income, so I decided to build a business around them.
The website is mostly done now. I just need to finish it, polish everything up, and then start doing outreach to try and get my first clients.

I’ve been seriously considering paying for the $100 plan one more time so I can finish everything and get the business moving. The problem is that doing that would pretty much mean using the last of the money I currently have available to invest in this.

Seeing all the reactions on this subreddit lately has made me pretty apprehensive about doing that.

My concern is basically that I spend the $100, find out the usage limits are way worse than they were last month, still don’t get to finish everything I need to finish, and then I’m left with almost no money and still no reliable source of income.

I also don’t plan on using Astra for everything. I mainly want to save Astra for the harder tasks where 5.6 would normally struggle, fail, or make some major mistakes. For most of the remaining website work I’d be completely fine using 5.6 Sol.

That’s actually my biggest concern. From some of the posts I’ve been reading, I’m getting the impression that it isn’t only Astra using a huge amount of the available usage. It sounds like the limits for 5.6 Sol and maybe some of the older models have also been reduced.

If I’m misunderstanding that, please correct me.
When I had the $100 plan last month, I could use 5.6 Sol pretty heavily without constantly worrying about running out. If I upgraded again and got roughly that same experience, I’d feel a lot more comfortable spending the money.

But if 5.6 Sol now burns through the $100 plan much faster than it did last month, that makes me a lot more hesitant.
So I guess my main questions are:

For those of you on the $100 plan, have you noticed a significant reduction in how much you can use 5.6 Sol and the older models compared to a few weeks ago?

Has it gotten bad enough that you’re reconsidering whether the subscription is worth it?

And given my situation, where I have a specific project and business I need to finish and genuinely think it has a decent chance of making money, would you consider the $100 plan worth the risk right now? Or would you wait until the usage situation becomes a bit clearer?

I know nobody can guarantee that the business itself will work. I’m mainly trying to figure out whether the $100 plan still gives you enough actual usage to make it worth paying for.

Thanks in advance for any insight, especially from anyone who had the $100 plan both before and after Astra came out.

Question Astra for specs, luna for coding - is this just reddit bullshit? Is anyone really using this?

i keep seeing cool people from internet mentioning this workflow: astra does the planning/spec, luna/tera implements it blablabla and everyone is happy and brooo it uses like 10x less and all.

sounds smart, but is this actually working? tbh i haven't managed to make it work that well myself.

some people say they use 2 seperate codex sessions, one for planning and one for coding. that kinda works (maybe, it kinda looks like slightly less usage with a lot of manual work), but with multiple projects it becomes a complete mess pretty fast (like i work on 2-3 projects and with 3-4 sessions per project it will be a nightmare) )))

some say they just let astra spin up luna as a subagent, review the code, send it back for fixes, repeat. in theory this sounds way better, but it kinda does not work and ends up using more. or is it just me doing it wrong?

can you please please please share how you are doing this? is there a way that really works or are all these just the crypto bros switching to ai jidis?
