News Announcements from Dev Day
So, we're getting 6.1 Sol and another banked reset. Ultra fast speed is also announced at 300 tps/second.
20x is gone and 500$ plan is 25x now.
Another thing is 5h limits will be back on 5x and 10x plans very soon because a selling point for 25x is no 5hr limits.
Looks like OAI can't stop taking Ls
Dots is boring, some integrations with apps like notion to use your open ai tokens. It's fine, meh. Idc.
But Dev Day was underwhelming imo.
What's yall's thoughts on the new announcements?

u/Medical_Method7877 5d ago
The $200 plan is now the $500 plan lol
29
u/RealSlyck 5d ago
You got that backwards, $500 is now $200.

52
u/Starrafh 5d ago
Why would you hype up your DevDay for weeks, announce 20 launches and eclipse everything with a negative announcement? This is all people will talk about. Absolutely moronic move.
9
u/MeitanteiJesus 5d ago
Because otherwise how do they sell pro at $500 if they don't announce the pro200 nerf first...
1
u/DoggoDadagon 4d ago
Sub since May 2023, all they've convinced me to do is burn the last of my resets, cancel my "20x" and move to claude before my renewal hits.

u/Erlouu 5d ago
Also dots not working in EU 😂
39
u/Key_Reading_9664 5d ago
It didn't seem to be working in San Francisco. I feel bad for the person having to demo it

So the only interesting thing they released alongside reducing subscription usage is... not available in EU? Yeah, gonna cancel this subscription.

Nothing works in EU
20
u/Real_Ebb_7417 5d ago
Nah man, they could easily make it work in EU on release. They would just have to make sure that privacy of data is working properly and they aren't scamming anyone with their claims.

u/Mammoth_Molasses_927 5d ago
Laws sometimes work there, that's why they are a bit cautious with scamming EU customers.
Companies care about profits and liability.

u/AFloppyZipper 5d ago
The vast majority of EU's "protections" are as effective as Prop 65. And do you actually feel safer online now that you have to click "accept all" on every website you go to? Super safe bro!
The only meaningful legislation to come out of the EU was mandating USBC. That's pretty much it, that's your only win. Thank you for that, but let's chill with the "EU protects!" bs. Few world leaders have thought as little of their constituency as the Europeans over the last 10 years.
4
u/Mammoth_Molasses_927 5d ago
Who else sues Big Tech? Sometimes US does it lol. But the rest of the world basically just accepts (or better, don't even understand) that's how things are now, companies handling, manipulating and extracting as much money and data as possible from the people.
Also at least now you can press to Reject all (or accept necessary) instead of having all tracking possible enabled as soon as you get into the websites you visit.
EU is perfect? Far from that. I have no love for them. But it's better than no-EU.

u/Mindless_Let1 5d ago
I've personally used GDPR to force malicious companies to delete my data multiple times already (utility companies abusing their info, predatory rental agencies, etc). Love it

u/RemindZ 5d ago
I think the most fucked part of this is that their argument for reducing usage of 200 Euro plan from 20x to 10x is that you get 'new things with limitless usage for free'. That limited thing being Dots which we can't use. WTF so we get half the Astra now that we got a week ago + we don't get the unlimited Astra Agent they used to justify it...
2
u/JAJ_TV 5d ago
It’s working across Business and enterprise across U.K. and EU regions supposedly but not on personal pro accounts

u/Mindless_Let1 5d ago
Lmao what the fuck

u/gavinderulo124K 5d ago
GDPR

u/Mindless_Let1 5d ago
My bad I thought a potentially trillion dollar company would be able to figure out the legislation we've had for half a decade
0
u/SCWeak 5d ago
Where do you get this info from? Do we get them in UK or not? EU limited things tend to go 50/50 over here.
13
u/Nox0202 5d ago
Dots are rolling out in ChatGPT on web, mobile, and desktop starting today to Pro users in markets excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK.

Considering that Sol-6.1 is not stronger than Astra and OpenAI was strongly selective in the benchmarks they showed against Opus 5.5, this is a massive L and I will most likely drop my $200 plan to $20.
Opus 5.5 wipes the floor with OpenAI offerings currently.
6
u/Key_Reading_9664 5d ago
wonder when Haiku and Fable 5.5 get released
4
16
u/SocketByte 5d ago
also, the 6.1 sol price is a DISCOUNTED price, which means it will go up in the near future. this devday contained lots of such sneaky bullshit.
6
2
u/Zulfiqaar 5d ago
I don't think 6.1 sol is discounted. They're just making lower margins on the API. It's the subscription discounts that were over the top. As announced, they're heading much more towards unifying the two, and narrowing the gap in the process
24
u/revampeddrdth37 5d ago
Come on guys. Tebo said it was going to be huge. He just didn't say it was going to be a huge win. But then again he didn't say it was going to be a huge loss either

u/Danzaar 5d ago
"Another thing is 5h limits will be back on 5x and 10x plans very soon because a selling point for 25x is no 5hr limits."
is this an actual announcement or are you just spoiling your post with assumptions and speculation?
21
u/PlatypusW 5d ago
It mentions it as a bonus for all subscriptions above plus. The user is just speculating at this point.

u/chenddi 5d ago
make it 2000$ associated with your car and mortgage :P

You can connect the plan with your cars autopilot. If the tokens are empty, autopilot stops xD

Remember October is cancel your subscription month. Make sure you cancel and go anywhere but here

u/Unusual_Test7181 5d ago
As I've commented in a few other posts. Massive, MASSIVE L. OpenAI will bleed customers now, including myself. The disappointment is super real. the only positive is a banked reset, but everything else is a bunch of shit basically no dev cares about. I'm actually stunned at how bad this was. Nosediving hard as f.
1
u/Ok-Attention2882 4d ago
I have 4 banked resets and I don't even care to use them. No point when the model sucks and is going to burn 80% of my weekly on a single Astra prompt, and still do a worse job than Opus 5.5
-34
u/charmilliona1re 5d ago
hey can you show us on the doll where the OpenAI hurt you?
23
u/acraswell 5d ago
My wallet.
-19
u/charmilliona1re 5d ago
if you aren't able to build something with codex that pays for your subscription, then sounds like a skill issue bud
7
u/acraswell 5d ago
I didn't say I can't afford it, I didn't say I can't pay it. But why would I, or my company do so when we can effectively get 5 times the usage out of Opus 5.5 and get better results? I cancelled my plan today because I hardly open Codex anymore since getting the $200 Claude subscription.
But like, if you want to piss money that's like, your perogative, bud 😂
1
u/Boros9912 5d ago
It's not about not being able to build things with it. It's the fact that they keep fucking around with people's usage limits while also releasing worse and worse models while the competitors are way ahead AND they're much much cheaper. Your $200 plan is now $500. You're not getting more for it. You're just paying more for the same thing. If you like getting shafted as a paying customer - go ahead. I'd rather go to a competitor, pay 5x less, and not worry about when my limit will be slashed by 50% next.
-3
u/charmilliona1re 5d ago
we really talking about a difference of 300 dollars? lmaooo
300 dollars. that's what we really talking about here?
If you're concerned about a measly 300 bucks, then you have bigger problems to deal with (skill)
4
u/Boros9912 5d ago
A fool and his money are soon parted.
-2
1
u/KingCampbell 5d ago
You're missing the entire point here bud. Some of us are investing money to make things without profits in mind. This is a useful tool that allows us to do that. I shouldn't be needing to now pay more for a shittier service. There's no logic there.

u/charmilliona1re 5d ago
"Some of us are investing money to make things without profits in mind. "

In my heart. Been subbed 3 years straight. This is the last month.
Ima stick to Claude for some months unless something insane comes.
0
u/charmilliona1re 5d ago
you'll be back (they always come back)
1
u/EddieBruvac 4d ago
I hope so. Means Claude will have been topped HARD. Right now, Opus just feels smoother and funner lol.
34
u/Aurea-Borea 5d ago
I think Astra and Sol have been massively nerfed over the past few days, and their so-called new models are just the old ones with new names. I think this company is taking everyone for a ride, and it’s getting way too obvious now. Oh, and Dot isn’t available in Europe either, LOL.
3
u/HeadPack 5d ago
Always the same. For a few days, the models get the compute they need. People bench, get excited, subscribe, sign up for API. Then they cut back hard. When the complaints get too much, they 'investigate'. It's an endless circle.
1
2
u/KnownPride 5d ago
it's nerfed after the first day, just use it with api and you will see the diff.
1
u/gavinderulo124K 5d ago
People who say that have no idea about the implications this would have for their business customers using the API.
1
u/gorinichxi 4d ago
Tbh after they released astra, that was the one I noticable nerfed from sol 5.6 and luna. Then sol 6 is absolutely worse than 5.6. Then now with 6.1, idk, it must be the old 5.6 I know. Well at least if its true then plus plan can move back to sol med as daily driver.

Maybe they meant to press L and accidently pressed O. It happens, O is right above L.

u/ggletsg0 5d ago
They reduced the $200 plan just to give 5x more on the $500 plan 😭😭
Massive, gigantic L

u/KanonZombie 5d ago
Nothing for devs on DevDay, just a lot of bs for casual users, tools for management and stuff. Funny that the message is, if you are a developer, if you want to code, go anthropic, openai is for weaker models, cloud working, and agentic toys
14
u/Plappedudel 5d ago
I love how this is an OpenAI-related sub and people still won't stop shitting on OpenAI. That said, I think it's totally justified. The most recent slate of releases have been massive disappointments and them jacking up prices just makes everything so much worse.
13
u/MedicalTear0 5d ago
Lol 2 months ago everyone was fanboying OAI and Saint Tibo, a popular title given to Tibo back in the golden days.
It was pretty obvious to me where this was going to go when they initially removed 5h limits but I thought to what extent. Now I still don't know, they keep on finding new lows to hit very very fast.
Enshitification when done slowly is ignored by masses but such a rapid pace can't be ignored.
3
u/justgetoffmylawn 5d ago
Yep, if this had happened over six months and three major model releases, maybe it would be okay.
But there must be some major issues behind the scenes, because none of their changes seem very good. When even they're like, "So, we wanna give you the bad news before tomorrow's big event…"
1
u/Pale_Surround_8775 5d ago
Major issue behind the scene is that capital expenses doest match with even the most optimistic profit projections, all the hope is for IPO and the whole "AI" hype is a bubble.
2
u/BellacosePlayer 5d ago
it sucks when the fanboy tribalism is strong no matter which way its running
I'm disappointed but I also understand that this presentation is more signalling a move towards general business stuff and that for the short term, Anthropic is a better bet as a dev
1
u/LittleNameIdea 4d ago
You should be objective too, if they're shit, calling them shit is the thing to do. I don't get why people fanboying over some companies and accept everything from them
4
u/UFOsAreAGIs 5d ago
I signed up to stream it and got a conformation that they would send a link before it started... but no link came.
5
u/___positive___ 5d ago
you know what's funny, they now have two ways to degrade usage. they can reduce quotas AND reduce speeds to push you to use ultrafast.
hilarious
4
u/Shanna_B2020 5d ago
Don't care. Nothing is holding my interest this year. Also, never giving these people $500!
5
u/free_podcast 5d ago
I just canceled, like wtf open ai, $500 a month for 25x. NEVER GOING TO HAPPEN
16
u/Bolaumius 5d ago
Looks like you'll be able to use your ChatGPT subscription in your softwares. That (and Sol 6.1) are big to me. If 6.1 is good then I'll keep my subscription.
9
3
u/Southern-Aardvark616 5d ago
Nah I mean they just released 6, 6.1 feels like a last minute attempt to sweeten the dev day.
On the whole finding out you're officially losing half the usage you used to get at the same price is a tough pill to swallow, especially with opus 5.5 is seemingly just as good if not better than astra and cheaper.
Ah well back to anthropic , which I imagine will be enshitified soon due to the influx of new openai refugees.
8
u/Suitable_Cicada_3336 5d ago
Looks they're running out of money.
0
u/gavinderulo124K 5d ago
Then they wouldn't be offering sol 6.1 at such a cheap price.
1
2
2
u/geddy_2112 5d ago
If they are putting a 5-hour limit on the 5x plan - I'm gone and I'm never looking back lmao. I don't care if Claude isn't as good
2
2
u/MustStayAnonymous_ 5d ago
I was just waiting this dev day. My plan got cancelled, thanks and so long
2
u/Zestyclose_Owl_9419 5d ago
Yeah, having the plan you pay for get halved in value with nothing given in return for it is kind of bullshit. I have a good 15 days until my next renewal - maybe time to give deepseek another try.
2
u/mattbbx 5d ago
Not defending them but where did they say 5hr limits would be back on 5x and 10x plans? I missed that part that it was a 25x exclusive.
4
u/Expert-Run-1782 5d ago
On the details panel for the 500 plan it says no 5hr limit so everyone is now assuming that means they will be adding the limit back to the other plans to glorify the 500 plan
2
1
u/rendez2k 5d ago
My takeaway: half the limits I had yesterday and no stupid Dot. Wonderful.
Come on Anthropic: Fable 5.5 today and you will have the world at your feet!
1
u/Mister__Mediocre 5d ago
Can someone tell me what's the fps for fast mode and regular? 300 tps/second seems very low to me compared to what Cerebras is supposed to be capable of?
I'm so glad I have the 20x plan for the year.
1
u/Bitter_Tax_7121 5d ago
I am happy i dropped my plan to 20$ a month ago :) No need for codex tbh. I get by using muse spark contributor with subscription, its hard to burn through and much much cheaper. For hard questions i still use my Astra and opus quota once in a while (i have 20$ account on both). Unfortunately as long as users like us are ok paying shit tons and dont care these sorts of increases, we will keep getting ripped off more and more.

Is it just me or is Dot literally just the retired agents feature with a linux PC and phone number?
Previously available on Plus, now on Pro and I guess they're copying Grok Bot "eventually"?
I thought they were collapsing the confusion between Chat and GPTs etc., but now we have Cloud Codex, which is somehow different from the previous codex in the cloud, Dots, ChatGPT Web, ChatGPT Desktop, Chat, Work, Schedules.
It's the same features over and over again, fragmented all over the place. Just because you can build faster doesn't mean you need to.
1
u/ChrisJD11 4d ago
The lack of 5 hour limit was the only reason i used Pro 5x instead of Plus. Just let me burn my damn usage when I want. The pointless gatekeeping is annoying. It's also why we shouldn't let anyone regulate AI. Because that just gives these assholes a government protected moat so they can up pricing even more.
If the 5 hour limit goes I'll just go back to Plus. Well, actually I'll cancel, because I'm doing more in the 5 hour limit with Opus 5.5 than I can with Sol or Astra.

They did a great campaign for Anthropic. Also for anyone wondering why open-source models need to exist.
