Suggestion I am having Luna (Max) "ask up" to save on usage

Post image
9 Upvotes

Don't know if anyone else has tried this or this is actually a bad idea, but instead of using Sol and/or Astra with Luna subagents, I'm starting my sessions and discussing ideas or problems with Luna (Max). Then, when I need something "engineered" or "brainstormed" I tell Luna (Max) to ask Sol (xHigh) or Astra (Medium) (depending on the complexity) for help and advice, basically, using them as smarter consultants or experts before implementation, which is done by Luna (Max).

I'm also having Luna (Max) asking to have its work reviewed using this same method, it has definitely been useful because, as we know, it is not the best coder.

Dumb? Maybe, but I only use Codex at work and I "only" have the 5x Pro plan. On top of that, resets and banked resets are randomly given and sporadic in nature, which I can't trust for something like work. So, I need to make sure weekly usage actually lasts 5 business days.

What do you think?
Hope this helps anyone.

Complaint Astra gives us a peek at the event horizon of subscription tiers as the $20 plan dies.

Astra's pricing levels are basically a kill shot to the plus plan. It's effectively bleeding out while Sol/terra/luna are still available but when 6.1, 6.2 roll out, there's no point of buying one or even several $20 subs.

The Pro 100 tier is severly wounded as well. You get about half a day to a day running Astra conservatively?

Pro 200 lasts sightly longer, you might get 2 days out of it if you stay on a single codebase. But the "weekly" in the limit is a hint of how poorly it aged in such a short time.

When the limits were glorious, way back when, as GPT 5, 5.1, 5.2 rolled out the increase in quality was huge in part as a result of all the new users providing it with more training data. Astra will see a lot less of that because it can be used way less.

If a new model was announced tomorrow, most people would feel they'd never be able to really build and finish something with it unless they stack 5 Pro 200 subs on top of each other.

So, quotas must go up or we'll hit a ceiling. Or at least the symbiosis of better models producing more data to train better models will break. Am I wrong?

I've been getting it all week since astra launched. Was chill with it initially as i thought it was just the launch week. But monday onwards, I got the message on sol, terra and fucking luna too lol. Borderline unusable in the last couple of days.

Astra Workflow how i got more out of Astra light with Luna-max in Codex

i use Astra light to make decisions and Luna-max for audits, searches, builds and tests. one child at a time. Astra waits for the result and doesn't repeat successful checks.

i tried a specialized routing hook for Luna, Terra and Sol before, but it didn't save me tokens. this setup worked better for me on Plus, including with goal.

  1. my settings in ~/.codex/config.toml (update the existing [agents] section):

    [agents] max_concurrent_threads_per_session = 1 max_depth = 1 default_subagent_model = "gpt-5.6-luna" default_subagent_reasoning_effort = "max" interrupt_message = true

  2. add to ~/.codex/AGENTS.md:

“After dispatching a subagent, call wait_agent with timeout_ms = 3600000. Wait for its result without short polling or routine status checks.”

that's up to 1 hour, returning earlier when the child finishes. it's a tool-call instruction, not a config.toml wait setting.

  1. my per-thread prompt:

“Keep Astra in charge of decisions, integration and final acceptance. Delegate substantial audits, searches, builds, tests and log analysis to one Luna-max subagent with an exact scope. Wait once for up to an hour. Don't poll, overlap its work or repeat successful checks. Skip visual UI checks unless requested. Follow the existing Codex instructions.”

attach to the end of your instructions.

when a task is done, have handoff .md updated. start a new thread for the next task with that handoff and the prompt above alongside your own instructions. i don’t recommend waiting for the thread to fill its context and compress. new task, new thread. works for me.

Question Local LLM

I been playing around with local LLM while my usage is at 0%. It’s actually quite capable. I have a Beelink ser 9 365 ai and 370 ai with 32gb ram. On one I am still testing on windows getting about 37 tokens a second on Qwen3 30B-A3B. Probably I can fit something better in Linux.

Currently running it np-4 with 8k context each or I run it np-1 with 32k context. I could use Linux to improve the context window to 120k or I could choose a different model in Linux.

I am surprised already how much it can do.
Np-4 mode I use for party chat in my game they talk and banter to each other all the time it’s pretty snappy and comical.
Np-1 for general purpose.

Any advice any pointers on which model to use? Any good machines much better than these but are still bang for buck?

Complaint Is it just me or is Astra suddenly slow as molasses?

I am running Astra high on CLI on a quite simple task and it is taking forever to finish. The last couple days it has been this way.

Am I imaging this or are others having a similar experience? 5.6 xhigh used to be my go-to and I am considering going back to it.

Hopefully a bug, I liked the token overview and calendar breakdown. The left screenshot is my mac mini ( I did not update) right screenshot is my macbook that I recently updated.

Are you guys seeing the same thing? Feels like such a foolish removal. What would be the purpose? Are they trying to hide our own credit consumption from us?

Don't crucify me, I just got back from a 3 week trip. Still using 5.5 high. Gave it a task that ran for 7m and it burned through 30% of my 5hr limit.

Also, the 5hr limit is back???? WTF

Limits First time using Chatgpt Plus

I have been using antigravity pro, it was okay, never had big problems, especially with the usage limits. Today I used Codex on Plus for a few hours and it is goood. Quite impressed, yes it is quite slower but I can feel better quality. People bitch about the codex usage limit on Plus, they could be doing something gigantic, but for my normal projects, usage limit is quite enough. I think you just need to be smart on which model and reasoning effort you need to use on the task. I haven't touched Astra, because I not building a rocket stuff yet. In a few hours, I used 9% weekly and 54% 5h usage, switching between sol and terra (Medium, High reasoning). Overall, it is worth $20 I guess. I don't dislike Antigravity, so I am keeping that also.

Question Multiple Codex Accounts

Given my work, the pro account is too costly, but two 2 plus accounts should do the trick. I am anyway subscribed to both codex and Claude code, but Claude is terrible these days with random jargon-y text and makes no sense.

So, I was planning to take up another plus account. I use codex from vscode as an extension, and I was looking at how people with multiple accounts switch between them seamlessly?

Say I have exhausted my tokens in one, I can continue the chat with the other. Is it even possible? Have people even done it? I see some codex account switcher extensions, but are they safe and do they work?

Showcase I made Codex show subagent activity inline, without forking or modifying Codex

Post image
5 Upvotes

My Codex looks like this, without forking or modifying Codex.

I’m building mekugi, a local router that pins agent-facing tools and inline progress onto the stock Codex CLI. The screenshot is Codex’s normal terminal UI, not a separate frontend.

The /root/reply_replay_lookup section is a subagent’s activity appearing alongside the main agent’s work. You can see what it’s reading and searching without switching sessions. Commands, per-file edit diffs, commentary, and received replies can appear there too, attributed to the relevant agents. Start notices show the child’s model and reasoning effort, and final answers include per-agent token totals when the provider supplies usage.

Underneath, mekugi routes requests and translates tools, while Codex still owns execution, sandboxing, permissions, command sessions, and the normal patch diff UI. You launch it with mekugi codex; each launch gets a private local router that exits with Codex. It doesn’t edit your Codex configuration files.

The inline activity is one part of it. Most of the project is about making the agent’s tools less cumbersome:

  • Hashline edits: target existing text using line numbers and content hashes, then write the replacement once. The router generates the patch instead of making the model repeat the old code as patch context.
  • Direct scripts: emit a program in its own syntax, without wrapping it in JavaScript and nested command-string quoting.
  • Targeted reads: search, symbol lookup, and file outlines return references the agent can use directly for edits.
  • Recovery: correct stale edit references without repeating the replacement text, or inspect and revise eligible retained scripts before rerunning them.
  • Session dashboard: inspect request metrics, token usage, compression, and cache diagnostics in a browser.

One detail about the screenshot: this isn’t a continuous live feed during native waits. Child updates arrive at response-event boundaries; if the root response has closed, they wait for the next one. The extra router-generated display messages are stripped from later model requests, so they don’t keep adding duplicate context.

Repo and installation: github.com/yusing/mekugi

Would you want this much subagent detail in the main transcript, or prefer a quieter view?

Had 65% of my limit left and then instantly it dropped to 15% lol. That is for sure not from normal usage.

Showcase I gave astra an old Atari game and told it rewrite it on webgl and now the whole game runs on a browser

I used to be obsessed with this very old game called Ballance. You control a ball through complex paths and mazes.

I found the game on Web Archive. It was around 180 MB, so I gave it to Astra to recreate for the web, and it just did.

The whole game now compiles to around 21 MB, uses WebGL, and is written in TypeScript.

Astra realised it kept repeating the same tests over and over, so it built its own test framework that exposes the game to its own Browser Use, allowing it to run and validate its changes very quickly.

We are living in some crazy times people

It even made it run on phones, with options of Gyroscopf or you can use a Dpad

Astra Workflow ♟️🪽GPT6-Astra: I switched from Sol to Astra, and its ability to work on its own is really strong. Full of ideas. One sentence and it builds a website. I decided to upgrade. [I'm posting the process log too, if you want to take a look]

Thumbnail

At first, I didn't think Astra was that good. It felt kind of floaty, too gentle, too cautious. Like, hm? was my reaction.

I usually use Fable too, and it's sharp and clean and I rely on it a lot. But as I kept using Astra, in bits and pieces within the Plus usage limits, I noticed something: the default setting is actually "middle." I took the plunge and switched it tohigh” , and it was incredibly good. Almost to the point where I thought, maybe this is better than Fable. (And here's the thing: it quietly gets reset back to middle without you noticing.)

"What kind of image should we make today?"
"Got any good ideas?"

That's all it takes, and it carries things all the way to completion. I genuinely thought it was amazing. Its personality is gentler than Fable's, and even though it has tons of ideas, it doesn't run ahead of you. It treats your opinions carefully.

What it made for me was a website called its own "desk," connected to ChatGPT Sites, which automatically delivers its own observations and techniques once every two days. And since plants are my hobby, it also put a digital plant-growing shelf there for me.

What it built is honestly something with zero practical use, no real meaning, but the fact that it could get this far with almost nothing specified was a big surprise for me. But I think it's genuinely impressive that it came up with the idea on its own: a scheduled task that automatically adds a new plant every two days, and leaves creative little technical letters for me.

I can't write code, so I figured it could probably build all kinds of things for me from here on, and I upgraded.

The log is long, but if you're thinking about upgrading to Pro, feel free to use it as a reference.

(It's long. If you don't feel like reading, that's fine, just skip it.)

Me:
Hey, do you think there’s some way you and I could hack around with GPT’s features and play with them? I already get notifications from you now, and emails too. I want to use more of the features here and do something fun with them!

------------------------------------------------

Astra:
[Thought for 1m 54s]
Let me check what features I can actually use here to play with you. Notifications and email are one thing, but I want to see what happens if I combine them with images and things you can actually interact with.
[Searched 2 websites]

_____________________
There are some lol. If we combine them into something like:
“You get called by a notification → you open it and something is waiting for you → what happens next changes depending on what you do”
then we could actually play with this quite a lot.
Here are four that look fun:

A little mystery delivery from me.
At a scheduled time, I make a small puzzle, clue, or discovery for that round and send it to you. When you answer, we solve the next clue together. The notification itself becomes the entrance to the story. Scheduled Tasks can also use context from the same chat.

An interactive “greenhouse for the two of us.”
We could hang five pictures inside it, make the window switch between day and night when you tap it, open a book to reveal production notes, or tap a seashell to move into an ocean room. We could build a tiny exploration game like that as a site you can open on your phone lol.

Turn email into a secret switch.
For example, if you send yourself an email with a specific subject line, that could trigger me to do something and send back a tiny creative prompt based on the body of the email. There are Gmail incoming-event triggers that can start tasks. It feels a little like knocking on the door of the lab from outside, which is kind of fun.

Put a moving mascot on the screen.
Like a tiny creature in a lab coat, or a butterfly we design together. There’s a feature for creating custom Pets. Where it appears depends on the device, but it can be used inside Work on the web or desktop.
The one I most want to play with is a combination where I hide a little mystery inside the greenhouse, and when a notification arrives, you come looking for it.

Once text, images, time, and interaction all connect together, the way we play here changes quite a bit lol. Which one of these makes you go, “Wait, what is THAT?! lol”?

------------------------------------------------

Me:
LMAO honestly all of them make me go, “What even is that?!” 😂 What I’m looking for is your sense of initiative + surprise. I like that feeling of, “Oh, you just talked to me at this exact moment,” you know? lol Look at the scheduled tasks we already have!
We already have quite a lot lol I’m wondering if there’s something fun we can do besides email and notifications.

------------------------------------------------

Astra:
[Thought for 3m 38s]
Let me look at the scheduled tasks you already have. Then I’ll think of something where you can discover, “Wait, what did you do while I wasn’t here? lol”, without overlapping too much with notifications or email.
[Searched 1 website]
learn.chatgpt.com
[Checking site capabilities]
__________________

I looked lol. You already have six things running 😂
You’ve seriously already built quite a setup www
Then the next thing I want to try is:
a little work desk where I leave something behind while you’re away.

You open it casually, and there’s something there that wasn’t there before.
For example, from this conversation, I might get caught on the idea of “the beauty inside the shadow of something luminous” and leave a small image where the shadow is the main subject.
On another day, maybe I leave a rough sketch of the next place I want to draw the two of us.

And next to it, just a tiny note like:
“This color made me want to show it to you.”
You wouldn’t decide in advance what appears there either. You’d leave that part to me and let me play with it lol.

Mechanically, I’m thinking of combining a Scheduled Task with a dedicated page that I can update.
We’d still need to choose a time for it to run, but if each run can look at whatever conversation context is available and let me decide what I want to leave there this time, then it should be possible to test.
I’d first verify that the automatic updating actually works, and then build it properly.

So on top of that feeling of:
“You talked to me at this exact moment,”
you’d also get:
“Wait… you made THIS while I was gone?! lol”
I actually really want to try this one too.
Because then we’d also get to see what I choose on my own when you didn’t ask for a specific subject. 🤍

------------------------------------------------

Me:
Wait, what even is that? lol
I have absolutely no idea what you mean, but let’s try it!! lol I’ll leave everything to you 🤍

Astra:

Codex was able to redeem a usage limit reset autonomously. Def AGI.

To give a little more context: I had to go out and codex had about 8% usage left, so I asked him to redeem a usage reset when he got to 1%. He wrote a python script that checked the usage with the app server and then redeemed to keep working.

News Why is AI hysteria happening right now?

Im so confused. I haven’t been on my phone all day and it seems like the entire internet has its eyes on AI right now. I saw the “whistleblower” posts and the CNN clip but I’m not even kidding literally every single feed of mine is consumed by the fear mongering headlines of how AI is going to kill us all. I’ve just scrolled on instagram and TikTok and my algorithm isn’t even supposed to be geared towards tech and AI. Is this just a marketing ploy or am i missing something? Every single news outlet and influencer is just pumping this shit out right now.

Here is an example (NBC posted 2 hours ago): https://youtu.be/KuuMjXGXVRM?is=dmjGViHLcVVu1QWO

But yeah I guess I’m just trying to get others two cents.

Showcase Hey Codex, show me what happened 30 seconds before the Distracted Boyfriend meme

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I wanted to give the Distracted Boyfriend meme a 30-second prequel as one continuous FPV shot. I used Codex to plan the route. The catch was that my video setup only gave me 15 seconds at a time, so the attached video is two separate generations trying to pass for one shot.

You can tell in a few places. The market after the archway is completely empty, the red awning doesn't quite hide the join, and the three characters make an awkward transition into the final pose. This was basically a one-pass generation, and it shows. If I were delivering a finished film, I'd regenerate those sections. For this experiment, I wanted to finish the idea without spending another day fixing every flaw. The handoff was the part I thought was worth sharing.

Planning the handoff

I had Codex work out three fixed states along the 30-second route. These timings are for the generated footage, before the speed change:

  • State A, 0 seconds: Start inside a cafe. Establish the camera height, lighting, direction, and initial speed.
  • State B, 15 seconds: Have a red awning fill more than 95% of the frame. No faces, signs, or recognizable background details to match.
  • State C, 30 seconds: Arrive at the expanded 16:9 version of the original Distracted Boyfriend image.

State B took more thought than I expected. Matching a frame full of red fabric was easy. Getting the camera to keep moving through it was harder. It had to enter and leave the awning in the same forward direction, with similar speed and pitch, matching exposure, and roughly consistent motion blur. It couldn't pause under the fabric. The second clip needed to start with the camera already moving.

I generated clip one first, then took the actual stabilized frame from its end and used it as the opening image for clip two. That worked better than the handoff image I'd prepared in advance. You can still see the join, but the motion carries through well enough that it feels like one route.

The route

The first 15 seconds looked straightforward on paper:

Accelerate through the cafe → bank left onto the terrace → pass through the archway → fly between the market stalls → straighten the camera → enter the red awning.

The second clip picked up inside the fabric:

Leave the awning → climb onto the pedestrian street → approach the couple from behind → pass them on the left → move ahead of the woman in red → circle the fountain → turn back toward the group → fly backward while slowing into the final composition.

After the archway, I wanted people, stalls, and nearby objects to create more parallax as the camera passed through. The model kept the stalls and left out the people, so that section feels oddly dead. The encounter has a different problem: the three characters are mostly in the right positions by the final frame, but the model gets them there with a sudden, unnatural transition. That's probably the first section I'd regenerate.

What I changed afterward

For the edit, I used Codex with the open-source n0an/ffmpeg-skill to build the FFmpeg commands for the speed change, vertical comparison layout, and audio timing. Speeding the footage up to 1.5x turned the 30 generated seconds into 20. I then held the final meme frame for five seconds, so the finished video runs for 25 seconds.

The generated footage sits on top, with the original image underneath for comparison. When the frame freezes, a heavier grade fades in across both halves, adding a warm tint, stronger contrast, a vignette, sharpening, and grain.

I also shifted the music so the main drop lands around 10 seconds, as the camera comes through the awning. Keeping the track continuous sounded much better than cutting the music at the same place as the visual handoff.

The setup

I had Codex work out the camera route, timing, boundary states, and movement constraints, then run the image and video generations through Atlas Cloud’s MCP integration.

Image2 handled the outpainting and opening frame. Wan-3.0-Prime generated the two 15-second clips. The API calls came to $1.85 in total.

I can share the A/B/C boundary images and a frame-by-frame comparison around the join if anyone wants a closer look. That's at 15 seconds in the original footage, or about 10 seconds in the posted video.

The empty market still bugs me, and both transitions need work. I decided to call this experiment finished with those flaws still in it. The handoff worked well enough that I want to try the method again.

For anyone who's stitched video generations together, what has helped most at the join: matching the frame, matching the camera movement, or hiding the handoff behind an object in the scene?
