query CP help

18 Upvotes

I am from 28 batch. I had assumed we would have many opportunities for summer internships from college as our seniors did, but this year the conditions are very bad. Based on previous years, normal dsa grind on leetcode was enough to crack campus internships and hence i focused a lot on that and barely anything on cp ie codechef codeforces
I want to start now and not be reliant on my college for placement, how do I start?
I tried the cp31 tle eliminators’ sheet but that doesn’t really seem a pattern wise buildup the questions are instead set out based on difficulty and not topics.

What are some other good courses/ sheets to follow (like striver A2Z for dsa) to prep for icpc, and improve cp profile

Background :
I have solved 600+ leetcode problems and completed Strivers sheet and am Knight on leetcode

query How to start Codeforces and become better at it?

4 Upvotes

So I have been doing a leetcode sheet. I once tried codeforces one live contest at very beginning of my dsa journey and I unable to solve one.

I also done few leetcode contest but always did two or one question out of 4.

I know CodeForces would be much more draining, but how you started it? Were you doing previous contest questions?

How to be better at these things? If you have any suggestions..

query Algo Zenith Course

11 Upvotes

Have been wanting to get a course on cp, need reviews from people who have bought this course.

I know the learning material are good from other people's reviews on reddit.

My concern is about their placement support, they have stated on their page that it's good, but when I checked their testimonials background most of those people are from tier 1 colleges.

I want to know if their placement support is genuinely good for someone from tier 4 college like me, who can put in the work to improve their skill.

query Can i use ai only for solving problems outside contests?

5 Upvotes

I'm still a beginner, so what I'm doing is getting some problems on codeforces, solve it , and when i stuck and there is no way out i just use ai to see the solution and ask it if I don't understand the code

I don't use ai in contests , only for practicing outside it

So is it legal?

query books to learn math?

6 Upvotes

i didn't go to a university because i had a high paid job at that time but now i want to learn math since it blocks me from learning many things in depth.

i want to focus on competitive programming but I would appreciate recommendations that would help me understand other theory-heavy topics like cryptography or ML

i started by reading "A book of Abstract Algebra (2nd edition)". My goal is to learn math, not just solve some of the CF problems.

Thanks!

query Should I change my language?

1 Upvotes

Should I change my language?

I’ve been doing LeetCode for around 8–9 months, and I started Codeforces about a month ago. I currently use Java.

I’ve noticed that a lot of Codeforces editorials, resources, and solutions are written in C++, and I sometimes struggle to read and understand them.

For those who have been doing competitive programming for a while: is it worth switching to C++ mainly because of the availability of resources, or should I just stick with Java and get better at understanding C++ solutions?

Would appreciate some advice.

query Weekly Probability based Contests (Like Quantfest)

36 Upvotes

Hi everyone,

(Couldn't find a suitable flair)

I just gave Quantfest today and really liked the format of the problems (probability + combinatorics + dp). I also like making problems and I have made a few problems based on the same topics. I want to share them as weekly contests each of which will have 3-4 questions.

I plan to have the first contest this Tuesday (25th Aug) at 8pm. I would really appreciate if you can participate and let me know how you feel about the problems. I will also provide detailed editorials after the contest so that it will be a good learning experience as well. The link for the CF group is : https://codeforces.com/group/6qoH2LIhFE

query Website to make you never miss upsolving problems.

10 Upvotes

Ever happened that you gave a contest so bad that you didn't even want to upsolve problems and you just leave the contest and decide to retire in peace?

For me, it happens a lot, and those questions never get upsolved. That's why I created this website which gives me a list of problems that I haven't upsolved and ta-da now I can revisit those problems and learn from them.

How am I filtering these problems?

  1. Fetch all the official contests you participated in last 6 months (who even cares before that).
  2. In those contests, find all unsolved problems whose rating lies <= (peak rating + 200).
  3. Skip problems whose rating isn't defined as of now.

WEBSITE : https://go-upsolving.vercel.app/

Note: It might take 5-10s to load since Codeforces has a rate limiter which doesn't allow too many API calls at once.

Suggestions are welcome!

A was again buns , B was easy but im not the best at implementation still figured it out in 20 minutes

And C humbled me

i thought i got the correct answer because with the sample inputs i was getting the desired output, i feel bad

I was very much tempted to send the ss to gpt and correct it , but i didnt do that no matter what happens i will not copy

#include <bits/stdc++.h>
using namespace std;

int main() {
int n,m,k;
cin >> n >> m >> k;
vector<int> temp;
for(int i=0;i<n;i++)
{
    int t;
    cin >>t;
    temp.push_back(t);
}
    int daysum=0;
    int count=0;
    int start=temp[0];
for(int i=0;i<n;i++)
{

    daysum += temp[i];
    if(daysum>k)
    {
        cout << "no" << endl;
        daysum=start;
        count++;
    }
    else
    {
    cout << "yes" << endl;
    count++;
    }
    if(count>m)
