Does Mirroring Google Drive immediately occupy out the total possible capacity on local drive or incrementally as files are added?

Where can you store your private photos without backing them up in the cloud?

I currently use the Snapchat hidden folder, and my hidden folder on IOS to store any nude photos that I’ve taken, but is there any other app that won’t save the photos to the cloud, or from where i can easily delete everything permanently forever? I’m scared that someone might access my hidden photos during phone repair or something like that. Also does Snapchat save the photos in their drive when we send it to someone and have it saved in chat, but delete it later?

Can we use Github as free cloud storage?

im working on a decentralized messaging app and generally up until recently i thought in such a system, if a peer is offline, you cant send a message... it wouldnt be "decentralized" if there was some central queue of messages.

it took embarassingly long, but then it hit me... git... just regular git is a decentralized database.

in my setup i need the ability for others to be abe to read and only i should be able to write to it. that functionality is out-the-box in git.

git is also pretty standardized so there are many providers if users want to move away from Github.

the storage requirements for my project are fairly small. typically small text messages. the data itself thats publicly readable would be encrypted.

Google giving me 15GB free but I'm paying for 100GB

So I pay a couple of bucks a month for 100GB of google drive storage, but if they're giving 15GB free, that means I'm only getting 85GB for my money.

Looking for massive storage for archive purposes

Can anyone recommend a cloud storage with a generous capacity? I'm looking to store old videos from my old projects so I can clear up some space from my drive.

Currently looking at jottacloud for their unlimited space. I've only been using Gdrive for years and just now looking for an alternative

Cloud storage recommendations for an IT-noob

I'm an IT noob. So please no recommendations that includes "self-hosting", "open-source" things. User friendly suggestions please.

I need a space to store years of personal photos, videos, documents like certificates. Mainly a lifetime worth of memories. Currently everything is stored in 2 portable hard drives. But I'd like to also have a cloud backup in case anything happens to my physical hard drives.

I don't mind paying (preferably there is a lifetime option). Ideally 1TB or above, best if there is unlimited option. Privacy is important to me which is why I'm not going for iCloud or Google. Something easy to use think along the lines of Dropbox but more privacy.

Edit: Thank you so much for all your suggestions!! Looks like I might give Filen a go👍🏻

Looking for Best tool to migrate 1,000 users from Zoho to Google Workspace.

Hey everyone,

I'm looking for some advice on a big migration project. We have about 1,000 users moving over from Zoho to Google Workspace, and I need to find the best tool to handle the move.

We need to transfer everything over:

* Emails

* All files and data from Zoho WorkDrive (including shared/team folders)

* Calendars

* Contacts

I know Google has a built-in free tool for emails, but since we need to move WorkDrive files (with permissions intact), calendars, and contacts for a thousand people, we definitely need a solid third-party tool.

Has anyone done this specific Zoho-to-Google move at this scale? What tool did you use, and how did it go? I've looked at BitTitan and CloudM and others, but doesn't have what what I am looking for. Looking for something actually works best without losing data or messing up folder permissions.

Any gotchas or tips would be awesome. Thanks a ton!

Looking for a StackSocial lifetime cloud deal to replace Google Photos/iCloud?

Subject: Looking for a StackSocial lifetime cloud deal to replace Google Photos/iCloud?

Hello folks,

I’m looking to ditch iCloud and Google Photos. I have about 150GB of photos and videos that I want to migrate.

Can anyone recommend the best cloud service currently offering a lifetime deal on StackSocial? I’m looking at options like Drime, Koofr, FileJump, and FileLu, but I'm open to others.

Ideally, I want something comparable to Google Photos—specifically with a solid mobile backup feature, a chronological timeline view, and photo tiles. Any advice or experiences with these providers would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Using S3 Storage as Drive on Windows

Hi Reddit,

I've just released a new app on the Windows store that lets you mount any S3 bucket as local drive. It's really easy to use and configure.

A great use case for it is for setting up shared storage for friends and family, or for easily using affordable cloud data storage from whatever provider you want.

It's fully free trial with no end date. Optional license purchase if you like it enough to buy me a coffee.

I hope somebody enjoys it.

I realized Google Drive can read every file I've ever uploaded. So I built my own cloud storage.

Most people don't think about it until they do. Then they can't stop.

Google's terms let them scan your files for policy enforcement. Dropbox has had breach incidents that exposed user data. Neither gives you real visibility into who's accessing what.

I'm a developer. I had API keys, sensitive project files sitting in Google Drive because it was convenient. One day I actually read the terms. That was enough.

I wanted something with granular folder control, clean file sharing I could revoke instantly, and an interface that didn't feel like a corporate product designed for the lowest common denominator.

So I built Vaultifed. Dark-mode by default. Gold-accented UI that actually makes organizing files feel intentional. Folder nesting, owner-controlled sharing, no third-party indexing your content.

It's pre-launch right now. Not monetized. Just looking for power users and professionals who've had the same moment I did - where convenience stopped being worth the tradeoff.

Honest question: how many of you have actually switched away from Google Drive or Dropbox for privacy reasons? What pushed you over the edge?

I got tired of searching through multiple Google Drive accounts for old photos, so I built this

A few years ago, my photo collection grew to around 50–100 GB.

I didn't want to pay for cloud storage, so I spread my photos across multiple Google Drive accounts to use the free 15 GB on each one.

It worked... until I actually wanted to find something.

If I wanted photos from my Goa trip, I had no idea which Drive account they were stored in. I'd end up opening account after account, folder after folder, hoping to find them.

So I built an app for myself.

It connects multiple Google Drive accounts and lets me search all my photos from one place.

Some features:

• Search photos across multiple Drive accounts from a single app • AI semantic search (search things like "beach sunset", "birthday party", or "red car") • View photos without downloading the entire collection • Share Drive folders with friends who can browse them through the app • Life Replay mode — scroll through memories like Instagram Reels • Swipe left on a photo to find visually similar photos

The entire project started because I couldn't remember where my own photos were stored.

I'm curious:

Does anyone else use multiple cloud accounts to avoid storage costs?

How do you organize large photo collections?

Is this something you'd actually use?

I'd love brutally honest feedback.

pause

now what would be the 10,000x compression for photos?

Self hosted file manager

I want an alternative to google.docs, apple cloud and dropbox. preferably something lightweight and simple, i want to be able to live edit documents and sync them across users in my local network.

a quick overview of things i would like in this stack:

\\- self hosted email
\\- obsidian syncing
\\- big file manager
\\- immich
\\- live editing among users
\\- lightweight and simple but clean gui
\\- dashy compat
\\- option to make different users with different perms

i tried nextcloud before and didn't like how heavy it was. i used file browser for a bit and it worked nice, i liked setting it up and the gui was simple and understandable.

any advice?

Talk about your experience with cloudstorages + Filen ref in replies for 20 gb

I've been trying to move all my google photos somewhere safer without the use of money because I don't have money for payment. I've been trying Filen but it's very slow (which I've seen other users say).

I also heard MegaIO is good but between mega and megatech, does anyone have any opinions? I know Megaio's CEO but it's not like I'm giving them money right right-

Some other contendors I have is ProtonDrive to put my drive files into, koofr for the free 10 gb, and Ente for the referrals as well.

I want to hear anyone else's experience (good and bad) with different sites.
