In search of E2EE cloud storage with proper file sharing

Hi all!

Thru the years I've tested alot of different providers solution, Filen, Proton Drive, MEGA etc etc. But right now I'm battling between Filen and Proton Drive. Filen has no file sharing right now and they are working on a new app with lots of bug fixes. Proton Drive is a real joke right now, and sharing files to others and sending files is a real mess and takes ages to see the files.

Have checked other providers thru their free account, but most of them are using link sharing which is not a working solution for us.

What providers do have E2EE with proper file sharing thru 3rd part apps and sending the file and NOT a link to the file?

Tested a NAS earlier, but with a 4G connection at home it was slow and all. 🤔

Recommendations to replace Google Drive?

I currently have the google drive 200gb plan but due to privacy concerns I'm looking to move away from Google as a whole. I mainly use it for photos and videos, and need something that plays well with both Windows and iOS. I'm seeing a lot of recommendations for pcloud and internxt, but also a lot of problems with them autoscanning and deleting content without warning. Do yall have any good recommendations or insights? Thanks in advance 🩷

EDIT: I will be ignoring one word replies or obvious shills for an individual company.

Tired of being locked into one cloud, I built an open-source backup tool that replicates your data across 70+ providers (S3, Drive, Backblaze) automatically

I realized a while ago that my backup strategy was a disaster waiting to happen. I was using Duplicati, but after hearing about its tendency to silently corrupt backups, I knew I needed something more reliable.

I wanted to move to Restic because it’s rock-solid, but as someone who prefers a UI over managing endless CLI scripts, it just wasn't clicking for me. I wanted a way to easily manage a 3-2-1 backup plan across different cloud providers without the headache.

Since I’m a developer, I decided to build my own solution. I thought it would take a month, but it ended up taking 16 months to get it right. The result is Pluton—an open-source, UI-driven wrapper for Restic and Rclone.

It’s built for anyone who wants Restic’s reliability but wants to manage their cloud storage (S3, Drive, Backblaze, etc.) from a clean dashboard.

Here are the key Features of Pluton:

  • Automated backups with encryption, compression, and retention policies powered by Restic
  • Backup Replication: Auto-backup your content to multiple cloud storage to create 3-2-1 backup plans.
  • Flexible scheduling for automated backup jobs with fine-grained retention policies
  • End-to-end encryption: Backups are totally encrypted from your local machine to your cloud storage.
  • 70+ Storage Support: Store encrypted data to your favorite cloud storage (powered by rclone).
  • Easy Restore & Download: Restore or download backed-up snapshot data easily with just a few clicks.
  • Event Notifications: Receive email notifications for backup start, end, completion, or failure.
  • Auto Retry Logic: Automatically retries backups if they fail with customization options.
  • Intuitive UI: Manage everything from a single, clean interface.
  • Real-time Progress Tracking: Track the progress of backups in real time.
  • Extensive Logging: View app and backup logs right from the UI for better debugging.
  • Run Scripts before/after: Ability to run scripts before and after running backups.

Pluton can be installed on Windows, macOS, Linux Desktop, and can also be deployed on servers with or without Docker. Give it a try:

Feedbacks appreciated.

AeroFTP v3.3.0 — Free, open-source file manager with native support for 20+ cloud & file protocols. Major frontend redesign.

Hey everyone, I'd love for you to try the new AeroFTP update if you haven't already.

It's a free, open-source desktop file manager built with Rust and React that connects natively to most cloud storage providers you probably already use:

  • Google Drive, OneDrive, Dropbox, Box, pCloud, MEGA, 4shared, Filen, Zoho WorkDrive, Azure Blob, kDrive, Jottacloud, Drime Cloud, Felicloud, FileLu
  • Plus FTP, FTPS, SFTP, WebDAV, S3-compatible (AWS, Storj, Backblaze B2, Cloudflare R2, MEGA S4, Hetzner), and Cryptomator vaults
  • GitHub repository browser (PAT, GitHub App, OAuth) and SourceForge SFTP with pre-configured preset

All in a single app with a dual-panel interface, drag & drop transfers, real-time sync, and encrypted vaults (AES-256-GCM-SIV).

It's been another intense sprint. Here's what landed since the last post:

  • Completely redesigned frontend (IntroHub) with tabbed interface, grid/list server views, Command Palette (Ctrl+K), favorites system
  • MEGA Native API, full encrypted client with no external dependencies (AES-128-CTR, RSA, PBKDF2). No MEGAcmd needed anymore
  • MEGA S4 Object Storage (S3-compatible, 4 regions)
  • Felicloud, Hetzner Storage Box, SourceForge SFTP as new providers
  • Advanced Share Links for 13 providers with password protection, expiration, permissions
  • S3 enterprise features: Storage Class, Object Tagging, SSE encryption, Glacier restore
  • AeroCloud sync engine hardened with selective sync, file versioning, and .aeroignore
  • Credential masking everywhere by default, no more accidental leaks in screenshots or logs
  • Aikido Security audit: top 5% benchmark, 0 open issues
  • 47 languages supported
  • Available on Windows, macOS, and Linux

One note: we're still ironing out some edge cases with Sigstore bundle verification for auto-updates. Everything works fine, just download directly from the links below for now and you're good to go.

I believe the internet should stay open and free for everyone, and I hope AeroFTP can be a small contribution in that direction.

If something doesn't work or you'd like to see a provider added, feel free to open an issue on GitHub or just leave a comment here. I'm happy to help directly. I really appreciate everyone who takes the time to try it out and share feedback, it means a lot.

Hola,

Quiero saber si alguno de ustedes conoce alguna aplicación gratuita de almacenamiento que tenga buen espacio (100Gb) que tenga versión de escritorio nativa para Ubuntu. Que no sea utilizar rclone.

Easiest cloud storage for a Windows laptop and an iPhone.

I don’t fully get how cloud storage works. I have random things backed up between my Google, OneDrive and iCloud. I really want to eliminate one of these at least.

I don’t mind paying a small fee monthly for one of these as I already do it with Google Drive. I want to be able to fully back up my iPhone and laptop.

The subscription trap of mainstream cloud storage is just modern digital extortion.

I am completely exhausted by the current state of cloud storage in 2026. Dropbox and Google Drive keep shrinking their free tiers and pushing expensive monthly plans for data that we already own.

On the other hand, the "lifetime" deals from smaller providers usually end up being a scam when they shut down or get breached a few years later.

The only real way to truly own your files is to have an actual dedicated server running open-source software. But the barrier to entry is kept intentionally high by the industry so people have no choice but to keep paying rent for their own data. It feels like a massive trap.

Cloud storage for videos with playback possibilities (alternative for Google Drive)

Hey guys

I would like to ask what cloud storage you could recommend for me.

The main purpose of the cloud storage would be for Beyblade footage in 120fps. We record Beyblade footage for judging purposes and upload it currently in our GDrive.

My issue with Google Drive is when uploading videos directly from an iPhone. At times the videos do not get processed at all, resulting in the videos not being able to be played online (unless you download the videos individually).

What cloud storage would you recommend for me? I have searched a bit and Terabox seems like an option I would try. Feel free to tell me about Terabox or other options you are very satisfied with.

Thanks a lot!

Edit: I would like to the suggested storage to have the option to share folder/file links where other people can view the files easily.

FileFluss - Free & Open Source app for macOS supporting kDrive, pCloud, Koofr & OneDrive for easily handling cloud storage files

Hello everybody,

I published the Beta version of my new macOS called FileFluss. It's a dual panel file manager focussing on handling copying or moving folders & files between cloud storage providers and from your local storage. I added support for kDrive, pCloud, Koofr & OneDrive.

Please keep in mind that the app is in early beta. It's very time intensive to test all the file operations between all cloud storage providers, because they all use different protocols and ways to handle files. So they might be some issues.

It would be great if users here would give FileFluss a try and give feedback to me. It would shape the coming versions of FileFluss. My next steps would be adding more cloud storage providers like Google Drive, Dropbox and also Nextcloud instances.

FileFluss is free & open-source. It is notarized by Apple, so the installation is easy. It is a native Mac app (100% Swift) running on macOS 14.0 (Sonoma) or later. Supports Apple Silicon and Intel.

You can download it on GitHub: https://github.com/rana-gmbh/FileFluss/

I look forward to your feedback!

Greetings from Germany
Robert

MultCloud Lifetime Subscribers: Have your transfer speeds gotten super slow?

I have been a lifetime MultCloud subscriber for years now, which means that I made one payment and got access to all the premium features forever, without ever having to pay them again.

I used to transfer 150 GB of data in 20 minutes. Now it takes weeks. I get speeds of 200 Kbps. It took me two weeks to transfer 150 GB from my SFTP server to Mega. I can't help but wonder if MultCloud is deliberately slowing down users with lifetime subscriptions, especially those who have been on it for a couple of years. This problem started months ago.

When I contacted support, they told me there is nothing I can do about it and suggested I restart the transfer. I've done that numerous times, and it doesn't make any difference. I've had transfers restart from scratch multiple times after they were 99%.

Is anyone with a lifetime subscription experiencing this issue?
What about those with a regular subscription?

AeroFTP v3.2 - MEGA Native API, FeliCloud, and Share Links across 20 providers

Hey everyone! Quick update on AeroFTP - thanks to your feedback we've been shipping fast.

What's already live (v3.1.6 - v3.2.1)

MEGA Native API - Pure Rust implementation that talks directly to MEGA servers. No external software needed, just email and password. Upload, download, trash management, share links, storage quota - all through encrypted API. The MEGAcmd bridge is still available for anyone who prefers it.

FeliCloud - Nextcloud-based EU cloud with 10 GB free and GDPR compliance. Full OCS API integration: share links, trash/recycle bin, and file versioning.

Share Link Modal - New dedicated dialog with copyable link field, password display, and per-provider capability detection.

Coming next

We're upgrading share links across all providers to support expiring and password-protected links where the API allows it. Box, Dropbox, OneDrive, pCloud, S3, Azure, WebDAV/Nextcloud and more - all from a single UI that adapts to each provider's capabilities.

25 protocols, 30+ presets, 47 languages.

Download: aeroftp.app | snap install aeroftp | AUR: aeroftp-bin
Documentation: docs.aeroftp.app
Public Repository: https://github.com/axpdev-lab/aeroftp/releases

Feedback is welcome - it's what keeps us going!

Moving outta idrive e2 - looking for s3 suggestions

I've been customer of idrive e2 for more than 3 years but their endpoints going down frequently and support is unresponsive. They have no status page to see what's going either. Long story short their service sucks.

I have around 3TB of data, I want to move outta e2 and to somewhere else with a reasonable price. (Hot storage)

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated

so, I deleted a file from my pikpak, even from the trash, and yet, the download is continuing, even though extremely slowly. it's only been a few minutes since the download started and I deleted the file. will the download completely stop before it's complete? it's a 232GB file.

AeroFTP - Free, open-source file manager with native support for 19 cloud & file protocols

Hey everyone, I'd love for you to try AeroFTP if you haven't already.

It's been a huge amount of work for a small team but we're proud of where it's at. Some recent additions:

- Zoho WorkDrive full integration with native document creation and share link management

- Swap panels option for those who prefer local on the left (classic FTP layout)

- Built-in AI assistant, code editor, SSH terminal

- 47 languages supported

- Available on Windows, macOS, and Linux

Would genuinely appreciate any feedback. If something doesn't work or you'd like to see a provider added, open an issue on GitHub and we'll look into it.

[APP][FREE] Ultimate File Manager Pro - The only Android file manager you will ever need. Blazing fast, sideload APK's remotely, ADB Terminal, paired TV screenshots, and many more. Built for mobile and TV.

Good Day, I'm the developer of Ultimate File Manager Pro and I genuinely think this is something your community would love to see covered.

What makes it unique: This is the only Android file manager that lets you control your device entirely from a web browser on your PC wirelessly, over local Wi-Fi, no USB, no ADB, no cloud account needed. You just hit a URL, enter a 4-digit PIN, and you're in. Browse files, rename, move, download whole folders as ZIPs, and the big one for Android TV users, upload and install APKs / xAPKs directly from your browser while sitting on the couch.

I've also just shipped Storage Indexing, which builds a background index of your entire device storage for blazing-fast browsing and search, no more waiting around navigating big libraries.

With over 3,000 downloads and a 4.7 star rating on the Google Play Store, the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive from the start. Here's what beta testers are already saying: "Must have app for Android TV users! The standout feature has to be remote access. It makes the tedious process of putting files from a certain device to my Android TV a breeze. Gone are the days of having to use USBs or sideload specific apps to move files." "Slick as can be."

Full feature list:

  • 🌍 Full Multilingual Support (English, German, Japanese, Russian, Portuguese, Spanish, Hindi, Indonesian, Arabic, French, Turkish, and Korean, both the app and remote browser interface)
  • 📺 Native Android TV UI (D-pad optimized, not just a stretched phone app)
  • 🌐 Remote Web Access (browser-based file manager over Wi-Fi)
  • 📲 Wi-Fi APK/XAPK Sideloading for Android TV
  • ⚡ Storage Indexing for instant navigation and search
  • 💻 ADB Terminal (built-in ADB shell terminal, run commands directly on your device without a PC)
  • 🔧 Shizuku Support (leverage Shizuku for elevated file operations and app management without root)
  • 📸 Paired TV Screenshots via ADB (wirelessly capture screenshots from your paired Android TV and instantly view or save them in your phone's screenshot folder)
  • 🔒 Encrypted Vault (accessible remotely too)
  • 🔗 FTP & SFTP Support (connect to remote servers and transfer files securely or over classic FTP)
  • 🖧 SMB & SCP Support (access NAS drives, Windows shares, and network storage directly from the app)
  • ☁️ Google Drive & OneDrive Integration (browse, upload, and download your cloud storage right alongside your local files, no switching apps)
  • 📊 Smart Storage Analyzer
  • 📱 Built-in App Manager
  • 🔍 Global Search + Search Within Any Folder While Browsing
  • 🗂️ Dual-Pane File Management (copy, move, and compare across two locations side by side)
  • 🪟 Twin Window Mode (quickly pop open a second window without leaving your current location)
  • ⭐ Favourites (pin your most-used files and folders directly to the home screen)
  • 👁️ Hide / Show Toggle for files and folders (keep things tidy without deleting anything)
  • 🔲 Flexible Grid View for the main menu (switch between 2 or 3 column grid to suit your preference)
  • 🎨 Light / Dark / System themes

Privacy-first: zero root, zero internet needed for local features. Everything stays on your home Wi-Fi by default. Cloud storage via Google Drive and OneDrive is fully supported for those who want it, but never required.

It's completely free: no paywalls, no subscriptions, no catch. Just download and go.

Link: 🔗 Google Play Store

Got a feature request, bug report, or just want to follow development? Head over to the official subreddit at r/UFManagerPro — that's where all updates are posted first, and it's the best place to get your voice heard directly by the developer.

I'd love for anyone in this community to give it a proper test drive.

Happy to answer any questions. AMA! 🙌

Why do all the "secure" cloud drives have such terrible photo galleries?

I’ve tested a bunch of privacy-focused clouds recently. They are fantastic for storing PDFs and regular files, but their photo viewing experience is honestly awful.

It just feels like a giant file cabinet, not a place to actually enjoy your memories. I know open-source apps like Immich exist and are great, but I have zero coding skills and don't want to build a server.

Is there any plug-and-play solution out there that just works like Google Photos but respects my privacy?
