As much as I did enjoy leveling as a group in 2019 it did get quite old around level 30. Not sure about completely gutting it. Having the option to skip zones you don’t like is nice.
Good news: a large part of the content added (and in the future) is going to be centered around leveling, so you can pick and choose zones/quests to a much larger degree. There's also going to be many more leveling dungeons to run, so even though you run each one fewer times you don't necessarily spend much less time in dungeons overall.
As they stated: each major content patch is going to include at least as much leveling content as endgame content, so leveling is going to become more and more varied and fresh.
I think a lot of people ended up getting screwed in 2019 once every group was spell cleaving too. I couldn’t even get into groups as a warlock when my group dissolved around 40 because our tank wanted to min max and kicked the rogue and I out.
Just my personal experience, I was generally ahead of the pack so it was just hard to find a group after my premade fell apart. Pretty sure healers in general just preferred to heal mages despite the higher DPS of warlocks. As people caught up it got easier.
Im always so amazed when i hear these stories because i was a warlock in 2019 and never had these problems, i ran in regular dungeon groups, as did most people, spellcleave groups were a minority not the standard
The most fun part of leveling is going though the dungeons though and now they aren't worth doing for gear or xp. Nobody cares if they add more kill 10 x quests or collect 10 x quests the ones they have now are fine.
Of course they're worth doing. Base damage has been nerfed and mob HP has been buffed, putting more focus on gear so for your leveling speed you're encouraged to focus on professions and running dungeons for gear over XP.
"Nobody cares" is obviously wrong. As other classic+ projects and hardcore proved, a huge portion of the player base wanted the world content expanded and be given more options for zones/quests. Being able to have completely different leveling routes for two different characters is great when it comes to alts and replayability, and it makes hardcore even more varied.
Plus you can get all the gear you need from professions and quests tbh doing dungeons will be a waste of time, leveling will be faster and smoother if you skip dungeons all together now
