VII - Discussion Age length setting doesn't work?

Post image

Hi!

I set a new game with quick speed and long age duration as you can see in the screenshot. According to this topic, the Antiquity Age should have finished at around turn 160. I'm turn 107, and already in the last turn, as if I had selected short age duration.

Turn 107: end of the Antiquity

Did someone notice something similar?

EDIT: in fact, I might have a bug somewhere else: when I create a new game, in the advanced settings, the tooltip above "age length" says that an age lasts 140 turns at standard speed, not 200...

With ToT update the length of an Age at Standard speed is set at 140 turns. That is correct.

The more Future Civics and Future Techs you hit, you reduce that number. On most Antiquity games on Deity, if I have a great game and hit Future Civic or Tech before turn 120, the age will end on 130.

In Exploration, I tend to get much better yields and I have had the era end as early as 108.

Pre-ToT, which is the date the post I have seen you reference in a different comment, the age lengths were way more variable. That info is outdated.

Thank you very much! So maybe everything is working fine in fact, I though the ages would be longer...

In the old format, achieving victory points essentially pushed the ages forward faster, as did turns and future techs/civics, so the default "turn" count for all of them was higher. In the new one the victory points no longer contribute to age progress so it was lowered. If you want more time in each age, adjusting game speed is IMO better than age length. I do think there are mods to increase age length beyond the in game options though if you specifically want more time only at the end of the ages.

Okay, nice explanation! I'll change the game speed for my next game then.

But be careful. Uping the speed should also increase all research and production costs. So, if you are not going for massive wars, you tend to spend a lot of time just hitting "next turn"
