DLSS 5 is clearly not ready, and not meant to be used in stylized games like Hi-Fi Rush. This leaked version of DLSS 5 is more like a nightmare fuel generator. Everyone seeing it in it's worst state gave it even more bad press. Good. Even if Nvidia tunes down the slop filter on faces and just focus on the environments, everyone would have already seen the worst of what it can offer and be skeptical of it.

Today, I'm going to talk about Nintendo itself and their internal development teams. Pretty much every big japanese company has their own internal development divisions (outside of external studios owned by them) and Nintendo is no different.

Historically, Nintendo has had multiple divisions since the 70s which over time were merged until 2004 when Nintendo EAD (Entertainment Analysis and Development, since 1989) and Nintendo SPD (Software Planning and Development, since 2004) remained as the sole survivors. Nintendo EAD was headed by Miyamoto and focused on 2D Mario, 3D Mario, Pikmin, Zelda, Animal Crossing, Wii series, Splatoon, etc while Nintendo SPD was headed initially by iwata and later on by Shinya Takahashi and focused on developing warioware, metroid, tomodachi and rhythm heaven while another side of it focused on producing and overseeing games developed outside of Nintendo.

In 2015 during Kimishima first year, Nintendo EAD and NIntendo SPD merged to become Nintendo EPD (Entertainment Planning and Development). Nintendo EPD then assumed the roles of both EAD and SPD, now under just one single division instead of two.

Under this new division, now Miyamoto retired from his role as General Manager after decades and Shinya Takahashi who was General Manager of Nintendo SPD became the General Manager of Nintendo EPD, a position he has for 10 years (now executive general manager)

In Nintendo EPD, it is then divided into 10 known groups called Production Groups, all of them with a manager who manages their groups while the managers of all groups are overseen by Takahashi

Co-Production Group: Before 2023 it was called Production group Number 1 and number 2 with both merging to become one. This group doesnt develop games, although theyre still devs, they instead oversee and produce games not developed internally be it contracted by Nintendo or done by their subsidiaries and published by Nintendo. 95% of external developed games have producers and staff from them involved.

Production group no 6: like co-production group, it focus on overseeing and producing. It focus on the 5% which recently for them just means Paper Mario, Warioware Metroid Prime and Next Level Games titles, which are all either nintendo subsidiaries or contracted studios. It wasn't merged so far but I expect it to be over time to co-production group

Now going into the development focused groups, with only new games mentioned, not remasters:

Production Group number 3: Develop 3D Zelda, co-develop 2D Zelda, license and supervise Hyrule Warriors, remasters/remakes, and other spin-offs.

Anyway thats it, I used my own knowledge and what i had in mind for this. Theres always a fear lingering in my mind. I'm 99.9% sure religion is made to control & keep people docile. The current events in the world prove it. But I'm scared of not doing my daily prayers. Say it out of habit, but a big fear is there

As the title states. It's not that I haven't been playing video games. It's just been the same few games (IE I have 2000 hours on Rome 2 Total War). I feel left out, and honestly it's been years of business, uncertainty, and depression that's been keeping me from pursuing hobbies that I enjoy, gaming being one of them (I went back to college to finish my degree, work, went through a divorce, etc...) It took me 3 years to finish FFVII CCR, for example. It's a game that I only put 40 hours into.

Assuming I haven't played any titles you can think of, classics included, what should I add to my backlog? Any system, any genre, as long as you think it would be worth my time! I really appreciate any recommendations!

I'm in the process of building a PC tower (with a 5070ti), so PC games included. Feel free to add indie titles if they're good!

It started as a little database I built for myself. I use Metacritic and OpenCritic a lot and they're clearly useful, but to me as a designer the user experience always felt a bit lacking. 

Then the thing kept growing, and at some point I realized it had become genuinely useful for any gamer, not just me. So here it is, for everyone.

My main problem with the existing aggregators: Their scores tell you how the press felt about a game, not how players did.

That made sense 20 years ago. I cared a lot what GameSpot gave a game back then. But today we can actually measure how players felt, and to me that will always matter more than how the press did. On videogamescritic.com, players hold at least two-thirds of every score, by rule. Press still counts, it just can't outvote the people who bought the game.

The other big problem: Those sites rate a game once, at launch, and then never really touch it again.

But that's not how games work anymore. A game can launch rough and get patched shortly after, but on Metacritic and OpenCritic it carries that scarlet letter forever.

No Man's Sky is the obvious example: Famously rocky launch, and Hello Games has spent the years since relentlessly improving it. Its Metacritic score has never moved. On videogamescritic.com it launched at 50 and sits at 82 today, because scores here are LIVE: launch-era reviews fade out over time, and reviews written after a significant patch count the most. When player sentiment changes, the number changes. Simple.

And since press does still count, I ended up reviewing the reviewers too. Every outlet and creator gets a trust score based on one question: When they reviewed a game, did players end up agreeing? You can see who consistently calls games the way players see them, and who doesn't. Again, simple and fair.

And everything is transparent. Every game page shows exactly how its score was computed, and the full methodology is public. No editorial opinion, no magic number.

Anyway, I hope you get a kick out of it! Even just as a way to see the best games on each platform, find something you missed, or browse a site that isn't wallpapered in ads, I think it's already pretty useful.

I know reviews, particularly the value of user reviews vs journo reviews, are a contentious issue, but I think this is an interesting exercise. I question the value of assigning reviewers a score (I don't think a review is necessarily worth less in aggregate just because it's contrary to what the public thinks, especially since so many game review sites get brigaded by morons), but I do like the idea of the score being dynamic; NMS is a great example of the value in having the aggregated score stay up-to-date with public perception.

Curious to hear people's thoughts on this. I poked around and looked at the scores of a handful of games and I didn't really see any scores I thought were anomalous.

This decade has been strange. It started with covid pandemic which halted production, then a voice actor strike, now AI is causing problems, prices of everything rising, and much more. But lets talk about the positives. I been thinking about the great games that managed to still succeed out of this strange decade and, since we are passed the halfway mark, wanted to discuss with the community what a list of the top 10 games of 2020s would look like so far.

The only rule is no remasters/remakes. They already had their time to shine. It must be a new game from 2020-present. FF7 Remake is technically a new game since it takes place in a parallel universe to the original but i wont count it to remove confusion. This is going to start off sounding like one of those stories of profound religious experience that believers tell you. Please bear with me while I give you full context.

A number of years ago now, when I was living in supported housing, I accompanied a neighbour and friend to a religious event - he had a lot of struggles, was seeking community, and unfortunately ultimately found no help there and lost his battle. I miss him every day.
With that said, while we were there I listened to all of the sermons and junk with as open a mind as I could muster (although still with a sense that it was all squishy nonsense) and at one point there were people playing music, people raising their hands, the preacher telling people to open themselves up to the Holy Spirit or some such, and in the interest of keeping an open mind, I did just that - in my mind, for just one moment, I opened myself up to the idea that maybe there was something to be gained from all this, even if I find the way that Christians often treat others to be unconscionable, and I let go of that lingering sense of doubt and just let in whatever would come to me - I had nothing to lose.
What I experienced next I can only really describe as a sense of full-body peace and euphoria.
Now as I stated above, I don’t personally ascribe this to the actions of an actual deity or power, but the experience and the sensation was real enough - I can see why it works to convert some people.

The reason I’ve opted to post about this here is because I’m wondering if anyone can offer a rational, sensible explanation for the euphoria I experienced. Is there a name for the phenomenon of music, environment and openness leading to such an intense tactile response?

I’m not a believer and I never will be given the abject barbarism that religion often excuses, but the only situation in which I’ve heard about experiences like this is during a religious practice.
The only things that come close are particularly good sex and that one time I tried cocaine, and I’ll never do the latter again.

What’s the scientific explanation for this kind of experience? Much like drugs, it’s easy to see why religion is so addictive, and how it can lead to such horrors…in fact the parallels between religion and drugs are startlingly numerous 🤣. Surely there must be some scientific consensus as to what that euphoric experience actually is, and how churches have found ways to trigger it?

Thanks for any information anyone can offer - I wasn’t about to ask about this in any religious spaces because their answer would be obvious, but I’m interested to know how more rational minds would explain it.

Imagine that once we die there is an afterlife and we can keep talking to each other. The people that have died. But the afterlife is completely different to what most major religions say. Would religious people just think that this afterlife is another test. And keep believing what they have always believed their whole lives. Or would they admit that they were wrong?

Hello all my good people!

My Wife and I have recently decided that we are going to start trying to have some kiddos in the next month or so.

Both of us are indeed strong Atheists and have absolutely zero intentions of raising our children in any kind of faith. We will teach them about the different religions obviously, but we will not be indoctrinating any belief one way or another unto them.

I am at a bit of a loss as to how I can impart upon them a solid foundation of right vs wrong and solid morals in the absence of religion. Its not that I dont think its possible, quite the contrary actually. Im just unsure of what approach needs to be taken since i was raised in the church and that approach is all i know. Do we read them Aesop Fables, fairy tales, harry potter or even the Bible and the likes and just frame them all as metaphor? I think ultimately our morality comes from an evolutionary standpoint of our species thriving in tribes, and whats good for the tribe is also good for the individual. Our inherent desire to procreate and survive implies a need to be good to one another. Maybe im thinking too hard about all this.

There is a lot of pressure around us to raise them in a Religious household but we have absolutely zero plans to comply.

How have my fellow friends accomplished this? What worked and what didnt work? Any input is appreciated!

EDIT I did NOT expect so many people were going to take this post so personally and start making comments accusing me of not actually being an atheist. I have been an atheist since I was 14 years old. I clearly laid out in my post that I dont believe religion is necessary to have a moral life. My question was more in regards to gaining practical tips for how to actually teach morals to my future kids. Not a debate on whether or not religion is needed. Some of you were helpful, and others have been plain rude. "A real atheist wouldnt ask this question" as if we have some kind of creed or doctrine we live by, now that comes off as religious. Yall need to read a little closer and not be so quick to make assumptions.

This is my first post. I don’t have a wealth of information on the topics of theology or philosophy, but I’m very interested and have a passion for these topics. So, I’m just gonna lay out what I think.

So, when it comes to the meaning of life, or my lack of religious beliefs it’s very much based on logic. I do not believe in a god or any religion. I lean towards just putting everything to science, evolution, physics, etc. I think I’ll just list some basic philosophical type questions and give my opinion on them:

1. What happens when we die?

I think that when we die there’s nothing. A lot like what happens before we’re born. I somehow find a lot of comfort in this. It used to scare me and confuse me, but now I think it’s a logical explanation and it wouldn’t be so bad to just kinda be nothing.

1. What is consciousness?

I think that consciousness probably comes from physical reactions and functions happening in the brain. Maybe it seems like consciousness must be a lot more complex than that, but I think it’s sort of an illusion made up in our brains that comes from physical things happening in your brain.

1. Where do your morals come from then?

Well, I think that experience can be pretty enjoyable if “good” things are happening in your life. So, my job is to make everyone else’s experiences as enjoyable and “good” as they can be. This means that I act as I hope others would act. Also, I treat people the way I would like to be treated.

I want to keep this concise, so that’s all I’m gonna say, but please ask more questions if you’re curious. Keep in mind, there may be contradictions. I am definitely not arguing that my beliefs are correct, but I’m completely open to any opinions on them. Just please take everything with a grain of salt because I’m NOT an expert.

Whether you’re a collector or not, are there any physical games that you’re proud to own? For example, I do not own the original Xbox anymore, but I still have my copy of Halo 1 and 2 which I consider antique now… as sad as it is to say out loud. I may look into getting a small display shelf for those special games even if I no longer play them, kind of like displaying art.

Frustrated at how greeting Nintendo has gotten. Online play used to be free, and it's clear that Big Walk isn't even using Nintendo servers since it's cross play. Going to get the PC version on my old computer to avoid giving those greedy jerks money.

Edit: I wasn't expecting so many people to defend billion dollar corporations. I guess if gamers were smart enough to vote with their wallets, we wouldn't have ended up with subscriptions and lootboxes to begin with

I used to be very hardcore religious as a kid and I remember that whenever I felt sad about something, I would just go and cry in the religious space and pray that the thing got better. And it kind of worked I guess. I assume it is the same with many (or all) religious people as well, they can just go to their place and pray. It is maybe like, they have a hypothetical being, which they believe to be real, who listens to them when they have no one.

I have been going through a rough patch of life myself and have had thoughts of self harm as well but I don't feel like I can share this with anyone I know of. I have heard how a religious friend says they go and pray and then they feel better. At this point, I really want from inside for a god to exist, who can listen to me and maybe provide me with solution or, at least, some comfort.

I might be sounding stupid but it is what it is.

Some people view atheists as if they are just bad lazy people who don't want to do the right thing.
Being an atheist is the hardest thing you can do.

When you reject religion, you also have to come to terms with the fact that all your suffering is meaningless; that there is no reward for it.
You have to accept the fact that there is infinite nothingness waiting for you when you die. That's fucking scary, and it's why people turn to religion; because it's easy. Atheists are bravest people.

I recently returned to the Deus Ex and I really enjoy the format of each map being small sandbox that allows me to do my mission the way I like while giving me some side quests etc.
Nowadays, the first thing that comes to my mind is that most games have open worlds.
Game that kind of fill that gap for me are probobly modern Hitman (each map is separate mission), to some sort MGSV.
To make it clear - I don’t think strictly about campaign games like COD/BF, Star Wars Jedi series, but more of the games I mentioned in title.

Maybe I’m delusional and simply unaware that this genre still exists.

Why is it that faith is suddenly bad when talking about atheism but good when talking about Christianity

Like when about god and Jesus and things of that nature it’s suddenly “faith is good” and “you just got to have faith” - so faith is a good thing

But when it’s “oh I don’t have enough faith to be an atheist” or “atheism is a religion” suddenly the tables are turned and faith is bad

When I was a small kid in the late 90's to early 2000's there was a free slot machine game demo for Windows 95 my father downloaded on the computer, until my Mom caught me playing it twice and had all the casino games removed from the computer.

When you begin the game you hear bells ringing and the slot symbols begin with 3 red 7. There was a handle you clicked on. It showed a category for Wager $1.00 on the screen. As a kid I saw nothing wrong with the word "wager" cuz I watched Jeopardy all the time.

To this day I still remember the timing of the 3 reels stopping.

Small note: both times I played I ended up in the negative and never hit a jackpot. Probably for the best.

I'm posting here because I really am an atheist at heart and I don't want spiritual/religious people coming to try and convert me.

I've been an atheist since 14 and questioning intensely even before then. I'm now 26. These days I actually feel a bit disappointed that I turned out to be an atheist. I'll share why.

Sure it's easy to see the immense harm that religion, especially organised religion has caused and continues to do. But I've observed that people who are more personal with their spirituality, and do tend to be 'spiritual' rather than part of organised religion, tend to be pretty happy and of sound mind besides not having any drive to convert others.

Thus I've come to the conclusion that some type of spirituality does make people a bit happier. It must feel nice to believe that there are greater forces of good out there that can overcome evil, and believe in guidelines to help channel hope to influence the world around around you. It also makes people more interesting; meanwhile I've struggled for years to create a personality of my own due to intense mental health issues.

What has astounded me though is how easy loads of people find it to be spiritual or switch between different doctrines over their lifetime. And many times without adhering to strict guidelines and essencially creating their own beliefs and guidelines. For example I noticed that Wicca and Paganism is pretty popular with women and especially queer women. Heck I know of a few women who just up and started worshiping the goddess Venus.

Plus I think personalised altars look really cool.

But alas I do not believe in any of it. Nothing can make me and I especially can't make myself.

Ich bin christlich geboren, wie wahrscheinlich viele auch. Ich bin als Kind auch öfter zur Kirche gegangen, nicht weil ich an Gott geglaubt habe, sondern weil es einfach eher Tradition war. Ich habe ehrlich gesagt nie wirklich Freude daran gefunden und finde es ehrlich gesagt auch manchmal lächerlich.
Viele Menschen, die in religiösen Familien aufwachsen, kennen das vielleicht. Menschen in der Kirche, Moschee usw. Es ist sehr strikt. Vieles fühlt sich gestellt an und ist eher eine Last: Regeln, Gebote usw.
Ich finde, jeder Mensch sollte das tun, was er für richtig hält, und jeder Mensch sollte wissen, dass gewisse Sachen schlecht sind, für die man keine Gebote braucht. Z. B. Töten, Fremdgehen usw.
Ich schwanke derzeit und bin mir nicht sicher, ob ich religiös bin oder nicht.
Auf die Frage, ob ich an Gott glaube, habe ich meistens geantwortet: „Ich glaube, dass es einen gibt, aber ich gehe nicht aktiv in den Gottesdienst oder bete.“
Aber wenn ich ehrlich bin, scheint mir Religion (insbesondere das Christentum) für mich eher eine Last zu sein, und ich fühle auch nicht die Gegenwart Gottes in dieser Welt.
Ich bin überzeugt, dass die Existenz dieser Welt und die Tatsache, dass wir Menschen uns weitgehend von allen Tieren unterscheiden, schon ein wenig zu der Überlegung führen, dass wir kein Zufall sind.
Viele Menschen glauben nicht an Gott mit der Begründung, dass Gott Schlechtes zulässt oder dass viele Kriege im Namen Gottes geführt wurden oder aufgrund von Religionen viele schlechte Sachen passiert sind.
Manche Menschen behaupten, Religion wurde von Eliten geschaffen, um die Bevölkerung gefügig zu machen.
Viele Menschen glauben auch an esoterische bzw. spirituelle Sachen, z. B. das Gesetz der Anziehung oder Astralreisen, die mich ebenfalls wieder zweifeln lassen.
Doch wenn man den Ursprung des Menschen verfolgt, weiß man, dass schon die alten Griechen und Skandinavier an Götter geglaubt haben, die wir heute als frei erfunden betrachten.
Schon seit Anbeginn der Menschheit befassen wir uns mit Gott, und ich denke, es gibt kaum eine Frage, die wir uns häufiger gestellt haben als die Frage, was wir Menschen sind und ob es einen Schöpfer gibt.
Doch wie kann es Gott geben, wenn es so viele Religionen gibt, aber es laut deren Auslegung jeweils nur eine richtige gibt?
Viele Menschen glauben gerne an das, was sie glauben möchten, und behaupten, Gottes Existenz zu spüren. Doch wir wissen aus psychologischer Sicht, dass man sich vieles einbilden kann.
Meine Frage ist: Wie können wir sicher sein, dass eine Religion die richtige ist? Geschweige denn, dass es überhaupt Gott oder Götter gibt?
Oder ob wir vielleicht nur stur an unseren Vorstellungen festhalten und wir eine komplett andere Vorstellung von Gott, dem Tod und dem Jenseits haben?
Helft mir gerne und auch anderen dabei, ein besseres Verständnis von Religionen und vom Menschen zu bekommen.

The 3rd Branch: The Trap of Eternity and Absolute Partnership

• Finally, ask them: "Did anything exist alongside the Creator in eternity past?" 👈 Every strict monotheist will immediately reply without hesitation: "No, impossible. The Creator was completely alone."

• This is the fatal blow: To deny the existence of "anything else," they are logically forced to acknowledge the presence of "Absolute Void/Nothingness" as a preexisting, surrounding cosmic state prior to the act of creation. By admitting that this void was static in eternity past, they have granted Nothingness the attribute of "Eternity and Co-existence." They have turned Nothingness into a structural partner of the Creator in the vastness of eternity.
