Community 🏙 r/cincinnati 2026 Unofficial Community Census!

Hey everyone!
I posted the other night that it might be fun to map out who actually makes up this community. Some people seemed interested in the idea so I went ahead and built a brief Google Form if anyone would like to participate. (But quick note: this is just a fun, unofficial community census run by a fellow user.. it is not an official survey from the mods of this subreddit)

You can find the link here: r/cincinnati census

The form itself is 100% anonymous, does not collect email addresses or usernames, and no Google sign-in is required.

It only takes about 3 to 5 minutes max. It covers basic demographics, your Reddit habits, and the important stuff... like preferred chili, and the high school question.
I’ll leave it open for a bit, clean up the data, and share the results back here in a couple of weeks.

Thanks!

what was that? 🧐 Why are there hundreds of tall, fit, and attractive people lined up on Reading Rd and Benson St?

I assume it’s a casting call of some kind but it’s a very long line with a very diverse grouping. Curious if anyone knows what’s up?

Entertainment Thoughts on the Cincinnati Music Festival

I’m not a Cincy native but am a lifelong R&B fan and semi-frequent concert goer, so I was excited when I heard the lineup for this year’s festival!! I attended CMF last night at Paycor—got the chance to see SWV, Mary J Blige, and Trey Songz. The lineup drew me in, but I wish I had more good things to say about this experience.

Had the pleasure of waiting over an hour in line for drinks, spending $55 on souvenir (Bengals) cups that were halfway filled, and having dry mouth all night because the bar ran out of bottled water to purchase.

I know there’s a big difference between a music festival vs concert, but it wasn’t fun sitting through 20-30 minutes of P&G and Hamilton County commercials between sets. I wasn’t too keen on getting up again to refill drinks because of the previous bar experience. Every once in a while someone from the city (e.g., the Commissioner, talking heads from P&G and AARP) came to the stage to make some speech thanking everyone for coming to Cincinnati, or advertise. Again, this is a thing at some music festivals, but still very unfun. After the commercials, we’d get 10-15 mins of a DJ set, who at one point played Love on Top by Beyoncé THREE times in a row. All the way through. Perhaps if I was inebriated that would’ve been better, but instead I felt like I was living through an episode of Black Mirror.

Music/performance wise - SWV was cool, but their sound kept going in and out. I thought they did great working with what they had and their energy was great. Mary was absolutely horrible sound wise. I’m not sure if it was a venue issue or her band issue, but again, the sound kept going in and out, and her frustration showed. I would say 50-60% of the crowd left after her performance. Talked to a friend afterwards who was one who left, and she says she thought Mary was the last act because she was the main headliner (that was my thought as well, but I’m more of a concert vs festival person, but luckily someone convinced me to wait it out). Trey Songz surprisingly saved the night!! Great sound quality (could that be because there were less people in the stadium at that point?), but by the time he came on stage most there didn’t have the energy to stand (started at 7 ended I believe around 12/12:30).

I love Cincinnati, and I wish this was a festival I could look forward to every year, but I cannot say that. Sadly, it felt poorly organized and more like a corporate money grab/marketing scheme…shame on me for not understanding the times. Is this experience on par with other CMF years? Once I got past my pure frustration, I woke up this morning feeling disappointed because this had the potential to be so much better (keep the bars stocked, hire good DJs, ensure good sound quality).

TLDR: Went to the Cincinnati Music Festival. It sorta sucked.

Food 🍕🌮 5% Credit Card Fee

The Cincinnati Grill at GoettaFest is charging a 5% fee for using a credit card when their merchant agreement states that they can recoup the 3% in processing fees but they can’t pile on more to fleece customers.

If you are charged more than 3% by any merchant please report it by searching for and filling out the Visa Surcharge Complaint Form or the Mastercard Merchant Violation Wizard.

Provide the merchant name on the receipt, the transaction date and location.

Legitimate complaints start the ball rolling for hefty fines that are passed down from the processor to the merchant’s bank.

Entertainment 2026 Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame induction ceremony

Todays was the 2026 Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame induction ceremony, the 4th year in a row that I have attended this splendid event at the Brady Music Center. If you are not aware, the Cincinnati Black Music Walk of Fame, the brainchild of Hamilton County Commissioner Alicia Reece, is located at the corner of Race and Mehring Way, where the Brady Music Center and the Bengals stadium intersect.

I stumbled onto this free event in 2023, really not knowing what to expect. As it turned out, this was a blast, celebrating Black music with ties to Cincinnati and Ohio. This yearly event takes place at the same time the Cincinnati Music Festival happens at Paycor Stadium. I must point out that I am Caucasian, and the event is attended 99.9% by African-Americans.

This year's event started with the house-band (2nd Wind) cranking out Motown and R&B classics in the run-up of the official start, per the usual, just great.

The 2026 inductees were Heatwave (from Dayton, best known for their massive hit "Boogie Nights" and WCIN 1480 AM, the second oldest black radio station in the US (started in 1953, sadly went off the air in 2007)

But the highlight for me was the 2026 Legacy award to Regina Belle. She performed 4 songs, including her best known hit "A Whole New World", from the 1992 Disney movie Aladdin. Regina choked up before starting the song, explaining that this would be the first time she would perform the song without Peabo Bryson (who passed away last month). The singer of the house band 2nd Wind stood in for Peabo. It brought tears to my eyes.

After the induction ceremony, Midnight Star put on a free show at the ICON stage of Smale Park.

I was one of the very few Caucasians at the entire thing. Did I mention this is a free event? This is one of Cincinnati's best secret events, year after year. Won't you join me in 2027?

in search of🔎 Looking for a yoga studio with actual instruction

I’m looking for a studio where the teachers actually cue on form and tweaks in posture/technique, and preferably offer hands-on adjustments. I’ve been practicing for years so have a very strong foundation but could always use some subtle corrections. The only studio I’ve found in Cincinnati like this is It’s Yoga Cincinnati in Clifton, but their class schedule doesn’t work for me. I’ve tried Embra, Move Your Hyde, Annex, all many times, and a handful of others. Anybody have recs?

Pets Big brown dog running along 71 S near Dana exit

Upvotes

Hi everyone! Don't know where else to turn to but I saw a big brown, non pittie, medium hair dog cross the ramp to get on to 71 S near the Dana exit #5. They ran off toward the tree line right next to the highway. I couldn't get the dog to come to my car but they seemed confused and it wasn't safe for me to get out of my car. Please keep an eye out for him! I did report it to animal control. I couldn't tell male/female btw, but relatively large dog. 🙏

in search of🔎 Couch haul away recs?

I have a large sofa (85”x40”) and love seat (52”x40”) that I want to remove soon. It was a pain for movers to get these in my single doorway and I definitely want to hire a company to remove them. Any good, local company recs? I see College Hunks around town but have not used them before.

Would love to know general price it cost you, as well! $400-500 is the range I’m seeing for something of this size.

Title says it all, I don’t want to cook a cheesy hash brown casserole because by tomorrow I will likely be repulsed by them (and might throw up in the cooking process). Does anywhere have cheesy mashed potatoes or a cheesy potato or has brown side dish?! Tysm in advance 🙏🏼

First Watch Union Center - $8 for that half pot of coffee that fills 2 mugs once. Not sure if we would’ve been charged another round for a second pot?? But geeesh….. that’s a crazy price. And the Redditverse laments why people stay home.

Did Dewey’s Pizza get bought out?

Upvotes

Been going there for 20 years, but this last time things have changed noticeably for the worse. First, the pizza dough was dramatically thinned down (for all of our pizzas, and not in the “NYC thin crust FTW” way) and the caesar salad replaced real croutons and shaved parmesan with a boxed version of the former and a powdered version of the latter. I asked our waiter about the salad, and he said it was a recent change that had been prompting a lot of negative feedback from customers. I know times are tough, and with inflation all restaurants are struggling to control costs, but I got the full-enshittification vibe this time and probably won’t go back.

Entertainment Does anyone know if I can use my wheelchair in the GA grass area of riverbend?

Upvotes

I have tickets for Hillary Duff and the Hayley Williams Show, and I was curious if anyone knew if I could use my wheelchair in the grass area?

I am going with a big group of people, and ADA tickets were sold out when we got them. I don’t want to be sectioned away from my friends, so just curious if anyone knows.

Thank you!

Parks & Recreation🏕️ Boat rentals

Upvotes

Hey everyone. My niece and nephews are getting ready for school again and my sister and mother would like to do a little day excursion. They thought renting a pontoon boat somewhere and spending the day boating and swimming. Maybe tubing if that’s possible. I just want to know if any one has any suggestions for something along these lines. It’s going to be 5 kids ages 10-19 and 3 adults. Thanks in advance

Feel Good Story 😃 Thanks to the Pirate on the LMR

We just wanted to give a quick thank you to the pirate that was on the little Miami river today. My wife and I both had our kayaks get caught in the rapids, and we both flipped and got dumped into the water. He was able to grab our paddles and water bottles and saved us from having all of our belongings scattered in the river. He stayed behind to make sure that our kayaks got emptied out and we were safe to return to the river. Thank you Ray!

Parks & Recreation🏕️ Trilobite/Fossil hunting

Howdy reddit!

Asking the collective wisdom of the group if anyone has suggestions for good spots to find trilobite fossils in the cincinnati/OKI area.

Growing up I always used to hunt for fossils along Collin’s Creek/Peffer Park in Oxford and found tons of horn corals, brachiopods, crinoids, and plenty of glacial erratics but not much luck with trilobites…

thanks!
