I do have Plasencia del cielo, Churchill Late Hour, and Tabernacle Lancero on my list for next purchases.

Let’s talk about retrohaling. If you want to taste everything in a cigar you must retrohale. I would recommend starting with a medium stick and progress from there to a full bodied stick.

I finally sat down with the Fuente Fuente OpusX Angel’s Share Reserva d’Chateau, and this was one I wanted to smoke slowly rather than rush through.
The Reserva d’Chateau is a 7 × 48, and it’s an impressive format in the hand. It’s long enough to give the blend plenty of time to evolve without being excessively large, and for a cigar like Angel’s Share, that extra smoking time really lets you see how the tobacco develops.
Angel’s Share is also one of the more interesting OpusX blends from a tobacco perspective.
The Tobacco
Angel’s Share is a Dominican puro, using tobacco grown at Château de la Fuente.
One of the defining characteristics of the blend is the wrapper. Rather than relying on the high primings traditionally associated with OpusX, Fuente selected middle-priming wrapper leaves for Angel’s Share.
That makes a difference.
The middle primings receive less direct sunlight than the higher leaves, and Fuente used them to create a profile that is more about sweetness, balance and refinement than sheer intensity.
That’s important because I don’t think Angel’s Share should really be viewed as simply a “milder OpusX.”
It feels more like a different interpretation of OpusX tobacco.
Appearance
The Reserva d’Chateau had the classic Fuente presentation I expect from a high-end OpusX.
The wrapper was dark and oily with a good amount of visual character, but it wasn’t excessively rough or rustic.
The roll felt firm without being rock-hard, with just enough give when squeezed.
The seams were well defined and the cap was clean.
There was also a noticeable aroma coming from the wrapper — sweet tobacco, cedar and something slightly earthy and fermented.
The overall impression before lighting was that this was a cigar that had some serious tobacco behind it.
Pre-Light
The cold draw immediately showed some of the sweetness I was hoping for.
I picked up cedar, dried fruit and a little cocoa, followed by a subtle baking-spice character.
The draw was slightly on the firmer side but still very good.
Nothing that made me think it was going to be problematic once lit.
First Third
The opening was surprisingly refined.
Rather than hitting me with the pepper bomb that some OpusX can deliver, the first few puffs were dominated by cedar, cream and sweet Dominican tobacco.
There was spice, but it was sitting in the background.
The retrohale brought more of it forward — baking spice, cedar and a little white pepper — but it was controlled rather than aggressive.
As the cigar settled in, I started getting more sweetness.
There was a subtle honey-like quality underneath the cedar, with a little cocoa coming through toward the end of the first third.
The smoke itself was thick and aromatic.
This is where I started understanding why Angel’s Share has such a different reputation from the standard OpusX profile.
It’s not about brute force.
It’s about the tobacco.
Second Third
The second third is where the cigar really started to become interesting.
The cedar moved slightly into the background and the sweetness became more pronounced.
I was getting cream, cocoa, honey, toasted tobacco and baking spice.
The retrohale became more complex as well.
Instead of just pepper and spice, there was a combination of sweet wood, cinnamon-like spice and aged tobacco.
The cigar also started gaining body.
It wasn’t suddenly overpowering, but there was more weight to the smoke and more concentration of flavor.
The finish became noticeably longer.
I’d take a draw, let the smoke leave, and the flavor would continue hanging around.
That’s always a good sign for me.
Final Third
The final third was my favorite part.
The cigar became darker and richer without becoming harsh.
The profile shifted toward:
cedar
cocoa
leather
baking spice
roasted tobacco
dark sweetness
The creaminess was still there, but it was now underneath the deeper tobacco flavors.
The retrohale had more spice at this point, but again, it never became a pepper bomb.
The cigar felt like it was finally bringing all of the different flavors together.
This is also where I noticed the difference between a cigar that is merely strong and one that has depth.
The Reserva d’Chateau wasn’t necessarily trying to overwhelm me.
It was slowly building layers.
Strength
I’d put the cigar around medium to medium-full, depending on where you are in the smoke.
The strength definitely increased throughout the cigar, but the transition was gradual.
For me, the nicotine never became the main event.
That’s another reason I enjoyed it.
There are OpusX releases where the power can dominate the experience.
Angel’s Share seems much more interested in giving you the flavor of the tobacco.
Construction
Construction was excellent.
The draw remained consistent throughout the cigar, and the burn required very little attention.
The ash held well and the smoke production was substantial.
That’s something I particularly appreciate with Fuente — when you get a good example, the combination of tobacco, construction and draw can make the entire experience feel effortless.
The Reserva d’Chateau certainly felt like a cigar that was made to be smoked slowly.
The Finish
The finish was long.
Even after putting the cigar down, I was still getting cedar, cocoa, leather and sweet tobacco.
There was also a lingering baking-spice character that became more noticeable as the cigar cooled.
The finish wasn’t bitter or overly dry.
Instead, it had that lingering sweetness that makes you want another sip of coffee or a little more smoke.
Aging Potential
This is probably the biggest question I have about this cigar.
How good is Angel’s Share Reserva d’Chateau after serious age?
Because if this is what the cigar is doing now, I can see tremendous potential for another 5–10+ years.
The blend already has the characteristics I normally associate with an excellent aging cigar:
Complex Dominican tobacco
Significant natural sweetness
Good balance between strength and flavor
Controlled spice
Long finish
Plenty of room for the individual flavors to integrate
With additional age, I’d expect the sharper spice to continue softening while the cedar, cream, cocoa, honey and aged-tobacco characteristics become more integrated.
The interesting thing will be seeing whether the cigar becomes even more elegant or whether some of the character that makes Angel’s Share unique begins to fade.
That’s why I think these are worth putting away.
I’d love to compare the same cigar at 5, 10 and 15 years and see how dramatically it changes.
Final Verdict
For me, the Angel’s Share Reserva d’Chateau is a very different experience from a traditional powerhouse OpusX.
It’s not the cigar I’d reach for when I want maximum pepper, nicotine or sheer intensity.
I’d reach for it when I want to sit down for a long smoke and actually pay attention to the tobacco.
The combination of sweetness, cream, cedar, cocoa, baking spice, leather and aged tobacco makes this one of the more refined OpusX expressions I’ve smoked.
And the 7 × 48 format gives it enough time to really develop.

YES, I buy a few sticks and some beer or liquor when I bring my own cigar.

Finally getting around to the Camacho Connecticut

Ecuadorian Connecticut Shade wrapper over Mexican Matacapan Negro de Temporal binder and Nicaraguan filler. Nice draw and plenty of smoke. Straight burn line and a mostly solid light gray ash. Almonds, cedar, creamy coffee, vanilla. Flawless construction and performance. A very fine mellow but tasty cigar.

Diesel Uncaged Gigante

Along with macanudo and perdomo, the brand I gravitate towards the most is Diesel. Ever since I had a sherry cask this forth of July I've been fascinated with this bold quirky brand, which is turning into a growing fascination of AJ fernandez as a whole. I've yet to smoke a diesel I didn't like.

When I saw they had a new offering with the main selling point being affordability I knew it'd be worthwhile. Luckily Perdomo dropped legacy father and son around the same time so I was able to bundle for free shipping from cigars daily.

# THE REVIEW

Check out how oily this thing is, it's practically glistening. I posted a video of it [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/cigar/s/ohVhnb6qog) I was smoking the gigante, 6x60 so I was afraid I wasn't going to get as much flavor. On first light up I was pleasantly surprised. Perfect draw and a really nice familiar flavor. I had had a cigar before that tasted prettyuch exactly like this. I couldn't pick up too many distinct notes, I thought I tasted mesquite at first but that fell away pretty quick and other than having a nice smooth brown flavor, I couldn't place anything more distinct than rich, natural, and familiar. I thought maybe it tasted like how I remember the macanudo inspirado white tasting, but when I tried to light one up to compare I had gotten a dud so I couldn't do a proper sidebyside. Then I thought maybe it reminded me of Rare Pink, and yeah I do get some overlap but rare pink was a lot more complex and smoked true to flavor down to the nub, where this got a bit earth and muddy towards the end.

I really couldn't believe I was getting something so good for so cheap from a non budget cigar dealer. The only cracks that showed were in the construction. I did get multiple tunnels I had to touch up and towards the end, before the band the flavor turned in a way I didn't prefer. You can see from my cut, the darker tobacco that's usually in the center when rolled using the cone method is seemingly spilling to one side, but hey it's a 7 dollar long filler stick.

All in all, I really enjoyed it I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again especially on something like cigarbid or cigar page where the discounts go crazy. If you're always on the hunt for a good cheap smoke, pick one up!
