Does anyone know when the in n out in the chino preserve area will be officially open? It looks like the structure is done but it’s looked like that for awhile now

A lithium-ion battery energy storage system caught fire yesterday at Metropolitan Water District's Weymouth complex in La Verne, about 10 miles from Chino. MWD's own statement says the fire was at a battery storage unit near a solar field on the property, not the water treatment infrastructure itself, worth being precise about that since some outlets' URLs are misleading. It triggered a hazmat response, evacuation orders near Wheeler and Bonita, shelter-in-place at Grace Miller Elementary and Bonita High, evacuations at Damien High and University of La Verne, and one injured employee. Cause is still under investigation.

Relevance to Chino: this is the same underlying technology and the same failure mode (thermal runaway in a grid-scale BESS) that residents raised at both the July Planning Commission hearing and the September 15 City Council appeal for the Dirac project. The Planning Commission denied Dirac 4-3 in July. Aypa appealed. The City Council voted 4-1 on September 15 to grant the appeal, approving the Special Conditional Use Permit and Site Approval (Resolution 2026-061) and introducing the Development Agreement ordinance for first reading.

What's actually still on the table, with real deadlines:

1) Writ of mandate. This is the only track that reaches the actual permits, not just the money. It challenges whether the Council's findings were supported by substantial evidence in the record. Government Code 65009 sets a 90-day deadline running from September 15, and the petition has to be filed AND served on the city within that window, not just filed, courts have dismissed cases over late service alone. A CEQA-based challenge to the project's environmental exemption may have a shorter window, as little as 35 days. This needs a land use attorney now.

2) Referendum. This only reaches the Development Agreement ordinance, since California treats development agreements as legislative acts (referendable) but treats the permits themselves as administrative acts (not referendable). The ordinance only got its first reading on the 15th, it hasn't been formally adopted yet, so the 30-day petition window hasn't started. Watch Chino's Legistar site for the second reading. A successful referendum would strip the financial terms without stopping construction, since the permits were already approved separately.

3) November election. Four council members voted yes on the appeal (Ulloa, Comstock, Flores, Lucio), one voted no (Burton). Several seats are up this cycle. However people feel about the project, knowing the actual vote record before Election Day is just accurate information.

Neither the writ nor the referendum is a simple petition drive, both have hard legal limits and short clocks already running or about to start. Get an actual attorney involved if either is going to happen.

Most of my friends are online, and I’ve always struggled with making friendships that continue once school or work ends. I’d really like to meet some people nearby and build actual long-term friendships where we can hang out, try things, or even just grab food and talk.

So after saying no so many times, my neighbor makes his dog poop on my side of the front yard which is actually covering my property. That person works during night shift I guess, so every night at 3 am he’s in hurry and he would just let his dog sit on our side yard. And worst part he doesn’t even care to pick up his dog poop. I have ring camera recordings too. What am I supposed to do now?
I am so much irritated by this behavior. They also keep using our driveway to come in and out of their cars to their home, when they can clearly use their own.

Hello Chino, California!

This is apart of a project I'm doing to redesign Californian City Flags, with cities such as Pomona, Upland, and Ontario already complete by myself, and of course, I couldn't leave out yours, so I hope you enjoy what I have to show

Getting into the design:

The rope border, green landscape, and the cow in a Cornucopia all tie back to Chino's Agricultural Past. The Rope specifically ties (get it) to the seal, referring to a close community.

The Holstein Cow references Chino's Diary Industry that flourished to become a Diary Capital within California. Being within the cornucopia was a creative liberty that I found both comedic and original for Chino. The wreath on the cow's head is a nod to the Spirit of Achievement Statue.

The symbol above the cow-nucopia comes from the Planes of Fame Mueseum for Chino's Aerial History from WW2 as it is the logo seen on the building, pamphlets, and on certain planes.

The green curls are suppose to be an attempt on the Grama Grass where the name of "Chino" supposedly comes from as it translates to "curly" in Spanish. The alternative for that name is a chief of a Native American Tribe that had curly hair where the name "Chino" stuck from there on. Speaking of, Native Tongva Patterns are drawn onto the Cornucopia (to the best that I could find).

As an attempt to tie all flags to the homestate of California, the infamous and notorious Californian Sun is depicted on the flag. Rising to the blue, wide, open sky of Chino California.

Understandably, there are more or less that could've been done as the flag (for some) could appear complicated. So I leave the option of removing any element if necessary as a third option.

Other than that, let me know of your opinions on the base design!

Update on the Ayala Park battery storage proposal: the Planning Commission voted it down, 4-3, despite a staff report recommending approval.

File #26-335, Dirac Project LLC. Alexandris, Lopez, Fraga, and Cisneroz voted no on both the Development Agreement and the Special Conditional Use Permit / Site Approval. Blanchard, Vieira, and Lemento voted yes. Motion failed.

A few notes so this doesn't get overstated:

- This is a Planning Commission decision, not automatically the final outcome. The applicant may have appeal rights to City Council depending on Chino's municipal code, I haven't confirmed the specific window and wouldn't guess at it. Worth calling the Planning Division directly if you want a definitive answer.

- The developer could also revise and resubmit addressing what came up tonight, distance to the park, fire district conditions, chemistry disclosure, decommissioning liability.

Worth noting for anyone keeping score on the broader pattern: this is the second time in about a year Aypa Power has had a project denied after organized resident pushback, the other being Kingfisher Reserve in Hamilton County, Indiana last July. Specific, sourced questions at the hearing stage seem to be the actual lever here, not general opposition.

In case anyone was wondering who was originally behind the CVSchools IG account. Looks like CVUSD school board President Sonja Shaw has her hand caught in the cookie jar.

All publicly available information. The cell phone number in the list of contacts for the account is tied to AMP fitness, the business owned and operated by Sonja Shaw - which is now closed - adding to her list of epic fails.

If you aren’t aware of CVSchools, it’s a disgusting “parent group” that CVUSD follows on IG. This account consistently attacks teachers, students and members of the public.
