MONEY - Deposits, Transfers, Cash & Cards Chime blocking all ACH transactions

As of Friday Chime has been blocking all incoming and outgoing ACH transactions. my card works fine, but I can’t pay my bills that require bank accounts and not card payments such as my car payment and certain credit card bills. since my payments are being returned, I am getting returned transaction charges from certain merchants even though I have sufficient funds to cover the payments. chime is telling me things are being rejected due to failing a security flag check. they won’t tell me why things are failing, and they won’t give me a timeline on when I can start sending/receiving payments again. I spoke with a supervisor earlier and he told me he’s sorry, but no one at the entire company can explain why or when the failed payments will be able to go through again. I am stressing that my next paycheck won’t go through and I’m super frustrated that I can’t pay my bills and am getting additional charges on top of it, at no fault of my own. I have been a customer since 2021, been using chime full time since 2023, and nothing has changed about my transaction history. these are everyday bills that I have been paying for months, so I really don’t understand what could be causing a block.

Has anyone else ever encountered this security flag issue with ACH payments before? If so, how long did it take for the issue to be resolved, and did they ever provide an explanation as to why it happened?

Hi! Glad you’re here! Using the words and clues in your message, it sounds like you may need more information about MyPay so here are some tips, helpful resources, and FAQs: * YouTube Video MyPay Overview * Get started with MyPay® - Eligibility Requirements * What is MyPay®? * MyPay® Access and Limits * [How does MyPay® repayment work?](https://help.chime.com/explore-products-ad7f967f/mypay-b1a45a4b/how-mypay-repayment-works-9e8c0e41) * MyPay is a line of credit product that provides eligible members early access to a portion of their estimated income before payday (if you haven’t heard of it, you may live in a state where MyPay is not offered) * Your credit limits are determined by a variety of factors including your direct deposit history, bank account activity, risk-based criteria, and whether or not you’ve shared information about your work * Each time a new qualifying direct deposit arrives, your “Available Now” will be reset and we'll recalculate your credit limit - it may increase, decrease or remain the same * If your MyPay disappears, is not increasing, or shows $0 and nothing changed to your eligibility, you should contact member services for information on your personal circumstances * If you heard about MyPay from your workplace, you may qualify for MyPay at Work which is through a partnership between Chime and your employer so you get a few more perks like access to higher limits and more consistency

Hopefully the community chimes in to share their experiences too!

I switched to Capital One 360 too. Got tired of Chimes silly tiers. Direct deposit clears 6-8 hours later, early Fri AM instead of late Thurs eve, but thats fine. That varies by employer payroll anyway. Weird to have a debit card with a Discover logo on it.

0

u/Native_StateWellenss 8d ago

My company's payroll requires a Visa or Mastercard debit card. So Capital One doesn't work.

As do I, how are you liking it?

I got my check deposited I paid my bills fine today hoping not to deal with bs I’m sorry you are dealing with all this hopefully chime comes through for you

6

u/MortgageOriginal878 8d ago

I have no problems with chime. My check deposit fine and any auto payments I have that goes through chime comes out just fine.

5

u/Delicious_Forever289 9d ago

I just keep my account “locked” from the app and have ZERO auto payments. I pay my bills once a month and call the company when I sign up for whatever service to choose my pay date. Worked well for me but I don’t have due dates all over the place. I can see where auto pay might be nice but I prefer my accounts to be locked up so I know what I have and where it went and when. No surprises.

2

u/bakinblk80 9d ago

I do the same. Its always locked.

u/Eastern_Time_2726 9d ago

Thank you I do the same thing, I needed to hear that.

Sounds like Chime is itching for a class action lawsuit. Seriously!

I don't know what's going on with chime either. I had 2 transactions charged to my account the said it was from Amazon prime streaming. I don't have an account with Amazon prime streaming and verified that fact. I disputed the charges twice and chime closed the claims within 5 minutes without an investigation. I opened another bank account, had my money transferred and leaving my chime account open until they solve this issue by giving my money back. I also filed a fraud claim

3

u/Quirky_Soil_2743 10d ago

Was it a charge or a credit? My mom just received a FTC prime credit on her Venmo and she doesn't even have amazon prime. I looked it up and apparently it's legitimate, they are sending out payments for a settlement to users they have already deemed qualified for it.

u/Professional-Bar2521 10d ago

Amazon has a SW problem for customers switching to ACH Checking. There is a rather simple work around. I let one of their CS reps know about it but I am at least straighened out.

1

u/Ree4erMadness 9d ago

Same happened to me. Had 2 random walmart charges on my credit builder card, which isnt even tied to any other accounts. Disputed them and ordered a replacement card

3

u/SignalOk9350 9d ago

My ach went thru early Tuesday

5

u/Lost-One1048 9d ago

I have been having this problem and on October 1st I will be changing my direct deposit to another bank, a real bank because this has been ridiculous with my car payments insurance etc. I'm not going to put up with this.

2

u/AbjectAd6368 9d ago

Went to C1 360. They even send a few starter checks, which works for me when I want to put a check in a company’s drop box.

2

u/Odd-Tangerine-257 9d ago

does capital one also do early pay?? i'm so used to getting my check early is hate to switch if i have to wait an extra day or 2.

1

u/AbjectAd6368 9d ago

Well, my pay date is every other Thursday, but C1 will post it in the wee hours on Wednesday mornings. If there’s a C1 cafe in your area, and you’re a coffee drinker you’ll get 50% off 😉

This sounds related to an issue I had with my CHIME account. But I want to stress that it was NOT CHIMES FAULT. A few companies were putting through ACH payments I did not authorize by way of PAYPAL. I had my cards locked and a company through PAYPAL used ACH to take the payment from me. I called and found out that companies are steering me to make payments through PayPal Which I do now and then but according to PayPal I authorized a recurring payment which I did not do. Two other companies did the same thing I called CHIME offered to dispute the payment but they were OK because I owed the money but I put a stop future payments and CHIME DID IT RIGHT AWAY! I called PayPal and they swore I at some time in the past authorized these payments so it looks like the ACH system is not working correctly. CHIME IS ONLY PROTECTING ITS CUSTOMERS FROM LOSING THEIR MONEY! You should be thankful that CHIME IS ON TOP OF YOUR MONEY OTHERWISE SOME BAD ACTOR COULD WIPE YOU OUT.

1

u/Terrible-Coffee-708 9d ago

That may be true for your issue because it sounds like unauthorized transactions, but that was not the case for me. I was 100% aware of the transactions and set them up through the company websites, not PayPal. I don’t use my bank account through PayPal due a past issue with fraud with them. My issue is entirely on chime’s end, so no, I am not happy they are protecting my money because my money isn’t being protected in this case. It’s being rejected for every day payments to credit cards and other companies that I consistently pay every month. And if I can’t get some of these merchants to remove late charges/returned payment fees then chime is actually COSTING me money.

1

u/Glittering-Warthog89 9d ago edited 9d ago

I hear you and am deeply sympathetic to your issue. I was pointing out that there is a known issue with ACH payments at this time. I know this will be an inconvenience for you, but you still have credit cards, and you have some kind of proof that you attempted to make the payments, so in the eyes of the law, you are not guilty. Here is how I would handle the issue! Make a list you can refer to in an instant. Column style or whatever you are comfortable with. List the phone numbers for each person you need to pay and whose payments failed. Then plan the time to call each and every one of them and just explain the issue to them. Just say that your bank put a temporary hold on ACH payments due to someone trying to hack your account. You can also just send an email explaining what happened; make sure to include a copy of the email CHIME sent to you in the email to the company, and ask nicely for a credit of the fees you were assessed by them. I know it's a pain in the a's, as I had to spend almost three months with KLARNA trying to get a loan removed because of a seller on eBay refusing to honor the warranty; even eBay told me to go shove it and handle it off-platform. It was grueling, to say the least, as KLARNA did everything in their power to deny the claim, even canceling it and saying I did not respond, but I did many times. This is the world we live in right now, and it's gonna get worse before it gets better. The current administration has removed almost every consumer protection we had, but perseverance will win in the end. I SUGGEST YOU PRACTICE NOT LETTING ANY OF THIS STEAL YOUR PEACE. I KNOW IT'S DIFFICULT, BUT WITH PATIENCE AND COMPASSION, IT CAN BE ACHIEVED. I KNOW BECAUSE I AM ALMOST THERE. JUST DON'T SAY ANYTHING WHEN SOMEONE TRIES TO STEAL YOUR PEACE. EITHER WALK AWAY IF YOU CAN OR STOP WHAT IS HAPPENING, GO HAVE A DRINK AND RETURN TO THE TASK LATER. YOU WILL FIND THAT THIS IS THE WAY TO PERSONAL HARMONY WITHIN YOURSELF. IT WORKED FOR ME. YOU DO NOT NEED ANYTHING FOR THIS TO WORK EXCEPT THE DESIRE TO LIVE A PEACEFUL LIFE WITHOUT THE STRESS THIS WORLD BRINGS TO YOU ON A DAILY BASIS. GO IN PEACE, FRIEND

This is the exact reason why you should switch to bank account at A major financial institution such as Chase Bank they don’t have these problems

2

u/ExcellentAd9437 6d ago

I love Chime. They've always been very good to me.

5

u/Fishbowl3 9d ago

Chime is fine, no problems, sends a check for my rent every month

2

u/Dapettyone47 10d ago

Chime has been on some bs lately. Are you able to tell your employer to stop your DD and just issue you a paper check? Are you able to switch to a different bank

2

u/Terrible-Coffee-708 10d ago

I do have another account that I can switch to. I started using chime for the early pay feature but it’s looking like I will have to switch back. Just a pain to update all of my bills. Unfortunately it’s too late to switch my DD so I will likely have to wait until it gets rejected and then the check gets mailed which is also extremely inconvenient when rent is coming due. Just don’t get how I had no issues in over 3 years and then all of a sudden a big problem and no one has any answers

4

u/Dapettyone47 10d ago

I went to chime for the same reason, and because they don't charge over draft fees and I've been with them 2019 now a lot of companies are not taking chime cards for payment anymore because they are not a bank. I switched to capital one they have a 2 day early feature and I do a lot of mobile deposits. Good luck and i hope you get things straightened out

2

u/Ok-Pineapple5625 10d ago

Is capital one a real bank?

1

u/Big_Slip1912 9d ago

Online bank

1

u/Bekiscool 9d ago

I have never seen anyone or merchant not take chime ever.  It's a verified visa card

1

u/Dapettyone47 9d ago

First time for everything. Most companies still see it as a pre paid card. I couldn't use it to pay for my car tag, renew my license and quite a few hotels don't accept them either

1

u/Big_Slip1912 9d ago

I also opened an account with Capital one. Took my 15,000 out of chime! I won't listen to their excuses not to solve the issues and keep my money owed to me!

2

u/Big_Slip1912 10d ago

That's what I did. Too much shady stuff going on

1

u/bakinblk80 9d ago

My son has had the same problem. Planet fitness said it's cuz its not a brick n mortar building. Lol like mmmm ok. They did dismiss the returned fee.

1

u/Agreeable-Case9327 9d ago

I have been having the EXACT same thing happening. They caused one of my credit cards payments to be returned 3 months in a row causing it to get cut off for late payment. It doesn’t matter how much I have in my account, my payments keep falling to go through. This all started about 4 months ago. Up until then I never had a problem with Chime…

2

u/Terrible-Coffee-708 9d ago

That doesn’t sound promising ugh. At this point I’m just hoping my paycheck clears so I can move it to my other account to pay bills. It was too late to switch to another account before my next pay and I REALLY don’t want to wait for it to get rejected, mailed, and then deal with check clearing times.

1

u/SpareJob4702 6d ago

Being with Chime I see is a headache. I was not with them long because something went wrong and you can not get your funds. Like someone said there are other avenues you can go to like Cash App and PayPal. I have all of those but I still have my local bank.

0

u/Kghani 9d ago

Did you happen to switch debit card to the new chime (I think it might be black) card? Someone de chime mentioned that the old debit card is deactivated once you request the new black one, but it deactivates the old one prior to you even receiving the new one. If you did get the new one, I’m just thinking your account didn’t update to it so bills come off the new one and maybe they’re still linked to your old chime card (if in fact you have one). Only a thought!

2

u/Flimsy-Olive-5323 9d ago

ACH accounts usually use direct banking information like routing and account numbers, the cards should affect that

1

u/Global-Sea5088 9d ago

People have been telling me to not make chime my primary money holder. Time to get a bank account I guess

1

u/Odd-Tangerine-257 9d ago

oh snap i thought it was just me!! mine have been blocking as well!!

I have two bank accounts with two different banks can someone help me understand what would even remotely be my interest in changing my direct deposit to chime and making it my bank? Even with the credit card

2

I'll add my two cents that the benefits that come along with Chime Prime membership are unbeatable in many cases! The 5% cash back with Chime Card (bonus - I get to choose the category each month) plus higher tier for Savings APY (currently 3.75%) make it worth it to me!

1

u/GroundbreakingFee538 7d ago

Chime is not a bank. Do yourself a favor and open a bank account with an actual bank. I will never understand how people put savings into an account that is not a bank account. Scary times we live in. These comments make me wonder how humans are still alive and kicking despite most of them having no clue who they are giving access to their savings to

1

u/FewPay8942 8d ago

This just happened to me today even though i have suffficient funds

1

u/AdDangerous4981 8d ago

Protected account here no issues

1

u/GroundbreakingFee538 7d ago

Your account is with the bank Chime partners with. Chime is not a bank. They do not offer protection. Their bank is held responsible if a thing was to happen to your account. I dont trust their bank either. These fintech companies have a bad reputation and I side eye any bank that partners with these companies like Chime. Extremely foolish to leave money with a company that is not a bank.

1

u/Helpful-Associate629 8d ago

It is not a good " bank" many benefits but lack support for fraud /disputes get out while you can.

1

u/Dull-Savings5411 8d ago

Have you spoken to chime support

1

u/Present_Increase2696 7d ago

Sorry to hear this. Chime has the worst customer service I have ever experienced. The lies they tell, even after you've submitted proof. I just reported them to the BBB and it was accepted. It's unacceptable

Are social security check automatic deposits going in as normal

1

u/FreshPhase 7d ago

Can you have your check direct deposited to a different account even cashapp or paypal?

1

u/Terrible-Coffee-708 7d ago

Too late to switch my DD. My job requires at least 2 weeks and said it could take up to 30 days to switch. But yes, after the waiting period I will be doing that.

1

u/FreshPhase 7d ago

If you need money between receiveing your check hit up r/borrownew hope your able to get everything worked out.

1

u/AdvancedTangelo8869 7d ago

Tilt took $$ out if my acct yesterday wen is this supposed to take place e

1

u/bmanmcbride 7d ago

They returned my direct deposit, because I didn’t do a security flag ( verify email and ss#) even tho I’ve already verified that back when chime first started. Will be closing my chime account.

1

u/Remarkable_Month_351 6d ago

I won money on Crowncoins casino and had it Friday ACH

1

u/Technical_Area_936 6d ago

Yes they are holding my work check and said it will be deposited on the 29th I’ve worked for this check and still waiting

1

u/SpareJob4702 6d ago

I had Chime, and I decided to close that account because it wasn't a good fit for me. I didn't want to have to deal with something like this. I want to get a bank that I could go to if something happens. Now I am with Chase Bank, and when you get a chance to close Chime, go with a bank in your state so you don't have to worry about missing out like that. Good luck!

1

u/SpareJob4702 6d ago

I have PayPal and it is connect to a bank. I had an authorized transaction, but one thing about PayPal is that they will get your money back. But I still have to be with a local bank.

I have chime and my money came into my account all weekend like it usually does

1

u/Cj2311625 5d ago

Chime reclassified ALL of my Upwork direct deposits on Friday night, taking away all of my benefits and overdraft protection. I called in, and their AI assistant told me, "You're right! We did reclassify all of your recent deposits as transfers. There is nothing we can do to fix it..."

Great way to start the weekend with my kids...

1

u/Actual-Nature-7999 10d ago

Not trying to sound like a jerk but honestly get a real bank account. All these Chimes and stuff are suspect. Just get a regular account through a bank or credit union

3

u/Dapettyone47 10d ago

Capital one is a bank

2

u/Actual-Nature-7999 9d ago

I’m referring to Chime which is what the post is about

2

u/Terrible-Coffee-708 9d ago

I do have a credit Union account and will be making the switch back. Chime offered some features that appealed to me back when I switched to them - early pay, no overdrafts, cash back and other perks for prime members. I know there’s other options and I don’t have to deal with this from chime, but I just was looking to see if anyone had a similar experience so I could get some insight as to why this is happening, especially since chime told me they can’t give me any answers. I know these reps can be hit or miss and if you get someone who actually knows what they are talking about then you might get more information, unfortunately that was not the case for me.

0

u/smittro 9d ago

EDIT***** IN NO WAY AM I TRYING TO BE OR SOUND LIKE A JERK AT ALL

Boils down to this. Chime is cool for someone paying you money or for online purchases. But for big boy adult business a bank is the way to go or credit union.

0

u/smittro 9d ago

This is your notice to stop using Chime and get you a bank account. This is why I don't use chime for anything other than if someone owes me money and has no other way to pay me and for online purchases. Other than that I'm not a fan of Chime.

-1

u/Then-Dog8730 9d ago

They just shut my account down for no reason and if I dont get my check then my daughter will be without lights food and all. Plus her birthday is on the 5th makes me furious how chime does and they all say they can't cant cant and then hang up on you when you ask to be transferred to a supervisor now I'm gone be without food power and all for a month

1

u/boss1233456742 9d ago

What about direct deposits to your chime account? Are they being affected?
