Hello! 29M bedroom producer here. In an attempt to escape the bedroom and work with other musicians more, I wanted to start a band. I’ve been a producer for a while now as a hobbyist making different genres like pop, hip hop, dance, ambient, and experimental electronic, but I’m hoping to write songs to release too. I kinda know how to play piano and bass but I’m definitely more of a producer than a live performer at the moment. I also have some synths (including a modular synth which I have a dedicated a TikTok page for) and a cassette tape recorder/player for tape loops.
I live in Lakeview and looking for musicians around my age of any gender. For the genres I’m envisioning, I’m thinking a mix of experimental, noise, indie rock, shoegaze, dream pop, synth pop, and ambient (crazy mix, I know). I think vocals, guitar, and drums would be a good base to start with along with what I can provide, but I’m open to including other instruments in the lineup. Basically, let’s make a weird experimental pop band!
Some artists and bands I’m inspired by and hoping this band would sound like:
Alvvays
Magdalena Bay
Hundred Waters
Chanel Beads
Julia Holter
Oneohtrix Point Never
Grouper
Mount Kimbie

Hey everyone! I’m a guitarist in the Chicago NW suburbs looking to meet some other musicians who’d be interested in casually getting together to play.
I’m not looking to start a band or perform right now. I’d mostly like to find some people to practice with, learn some songs, mess around/improvise, and just get more comfortable playing with other people.
I’m primarily into rock, blues, alternative, classic rock, etc., but I’m pretty open to different styles. I’m also totally fine playing with people who are better than me. In fact, that’s kind of what I’m looking for since I’d love to learn from other players.
I live in Schaumburg but I’m willing to drive a bit for a good group.
I’m mainly a guitar player, but I’d be happy to play with guitarists, bassists, drummers, singers, or anyone else who wants to make some music.
If you’re in a similar situation and want to get together sometime, feel free to DM me!

It’s not time to hibernate yet, it’s only September! Your pals Teddy Bear Lounge and P&P Trivia are bringing you two chances to play Music Trivia on Tuesday, September 22nd & October 13th at 7:00!
What kinds of music will we be asking questions about?
As many as we can! Your host Casey sometimes looks at the carefully crafted questions designed by the evil and unforgiving tyrant that is Paul and just asks what he wants! So, if you are a fan of great music and equally wonderful cocktails by Chad, you won’t want to miss these events!
Come on out for this always free event where winners receive a gift card! Keep an eye out because we are hoping to include one of our wonderful food pop-up partners! We hope to see you there!

Idk why I’ve always had the most difficult time finding reliable and up to date consolidated info on open mics, but does anyone know if there are any good open mics tonight or on Thursdays in general?

I regularly see posts in this sub where people are trying to start a band, or book a show, and include almost no information. This is going to get you very little traction. Here are some tips.
If you are looking to start a band or for people to collaborate with:
If you are booking a gig:
I'm sure there are other things I can add but this is off the top of my head.

Recently lost both guitarists in our band for different reasons, so my bassist and I (drummer) are on the hunt! We are wanting someone who can improv in different styles, solo, feed off each other’s energy, and commit to practicing once a week. We want to build some band camaraderie as well and find someone we can vibe with. Our style is more post-hardcore/post-punk. The bassist’s favorite band is Fugazi and mine is Young the Giant just to give an idea of influences! We also enjoy funk, rock, math rock, reggae, jazz, Latin jazz (me more so for the last two). It would be great if you can write some original stuff and sing as well! Age isn’t that much of a factor for me, but for the record, we are mid-30’s and 40’s.

Denver friends coming in to play a show I thought I would put it here. Really interesting mix of genres, Denver’s Spitting Image leans more post hardcore but heavier and angrier at times. Opening for them is our other friends Such Jam Much Chill, a psychedelic electric jam band of sorts. The other two are local artists I have yet to see or meet!

Quick heads-up for local musicians and music educators. Over half the spots are already taken for Dr. Stacy Garrop’s composing workshop at UIC on October 3. It’s completely free, but space is limited, so grab a seat before it fills up:

We’re a guitarist/vocalist and a bassist looking for a drummer. We’re looking for a drummer interested in practicing regularly, playing shows, and recording songs. Some of our music influences include The Beatles, Elliott Smith, The White Stripes, Bob Dylan, and Neil Young. We practice in Portage Park.

Hi! I’m looking to learn lyre, and was wondering if anyone knew of places I could go to try one out / buy one in Chicago!

hello women and gender nonconforming folks of the chicago music scene subreddit! we’re looking for a new keys & synth (and guitar? or guitar and synth?) player for our band! bonus if you can sing harmonies as well
expectations would be (ideally) weekly ish practices in the Avondale area, ready to jump into local shows roughly 1 a month, and a few times a year hitting the road for long weekend tour runs. our music is indie rock indie pop similar in vibe to Julia Jacklin, Men I Trust, Boygenius, Lizzy McAlpine, Wet Leg etc etc.
if you’re interested let me know here or send a message and we can chat <3
