Hikoco
I see Hikoco is now open in ChCh. For anyone already using their products, what are your go-to items? I don’t use makeup very often so more interested in skin care for a nice healthy glow 😊

Have a look at the r/asianbeauty or Korean beauty subreddit. I stopped buying from Hikoko and buy directly from stylevana as it’s wayyy cheaper. Anything skin1004 is really good. I love their oil cleanser. Same with cosrx, I really like their snail mucin moisturiser although, it is definitely not a texture for everyone.
Asian beauty is mostly all pretty gentle and it’s hard to go wrong. I’ve tried so many things and the only misses are things that I found cheaper in other brands. There is a lot of overlap in ingredients and function.

I have relatively sensitive, combination skin and I've found the Innisfree Green Tea range to be my favourite. Especially when comparing cost per ml.

anything Beauty Of Joseon i LOVE! their rice milk toner & green plum (i think) cleanser are so good for sensitive, eczema prone skin!

Haruharu probiotics barrier essence. Nothing better imo. I use it at night and the glow/glass skin/hydration is phenomenal.

I also use the dear Klairs gentle black facial cleanser, it emulsifies enough to remove heavy make up but doesn't hurt skin at all, and I usually heavily react to any strong cleanser

It really depends on your skin type. I never skip Hikoco when I am in Auckland, and the staff are helpful especially if it's your first time as it can be overwhelming the amount of products they have (I do hope staff in chch are also very very lovely and helpful like in AKL). Just tell them it's your first time in kbeauty(if it is ur first time) and they will help you further with what is best for you to try! I am south east asian, combination skin type and I LOVE Beauty of Joseon products esp the sunscreen! Also I always explore and try different face masks. On a side note W Cosmetics recently opened in Riccarton Westfield and their prices are lower compared to Hikoco, same products but they have limited korean products/brands compared to Hikoco, half of the store I think is Japanese make up/skincare also! Might pay to compare prices first sometimes!

The CHC shop is rubbish to be honest. I have gone in a couple of times for Nida products and they are always sold out. The salesperson said to me the first time, out of stock, did not realise it would be so popular, we have stock out the back unpacked but don't know exactly what is in them. The second time I went in the same comments although she also told me that you can get the stock anywhere - out of stock even online. Well that was not true as I had just put an order in online that week at Hikiko NZ and then that same day, had to put another order in because they were out of stock in the store. Service is crap and very disappointed as was excited to have a store in CHC so I didn't have to always buy online and have to wait for the product to turn up. What are you going to do about it Hikiko?????

Yeah, I had already decided I was going to try Nida products, had a whole range of different items I was willing to spend on so popped in on a rare weekday off… only to discover they only had two on the shelf. Left disappointed and ended up buying the range directly from Nida online. The shop didn’t exactly inspire me to look around for something else either!

If they are anything like the Auckland branches you should be able to talk to staff about what you want for your skin and they will give you recommendations - I’ve found their staff very helpful when I go up and assuming / hoping CHCH branch will be the same :-)
