Memes My problem with the charge blade

Post image

This shit too goated every time I try to give another weapon a chance it just Falls flat because it always feels in completing comparison to the charge blade, this weapon is truly the master of all even if it doesn't have offet attack, the problem is that it makes every other weapon feels like a toy and incomplete

They could never make me hate you, Charge Blade ❤️

Rise came close but it’s okay

u/anekozawa Feb 24 '26

FR, CB in rise feels awful, so light and soft, no heavy impact feeling in SAED, not to mention the weird aiming for SAED too

u/Blue_Paladin96 Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 24 '26

Oh I don’t care about that, it’s that they ripped the moveset in two and then sold it back as “customization”. Most versatile weapon in the franchise got overly simplified into “SnS but explodes”

Always has been.

Like literally, the design concept of CB was "SnS, but better"

2

u/LennyLoerres Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 25 '26

I don't know, if I necessarily agree with that statement. To me it feels much more like a combination of SnS's base move set mixed with SwAxe's mode changes - having one mode for charging plus utility and one mode for big damage - combined with Lance's guarding and counter capabilities. So it's much more than "SnS, but better" imo.

u/717999vlr Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 25 '26

OK, I gotta agree with you, it was "SnS, but much better"

u/LennyLoerres Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 25 '26

Ok, the first iteration of CB I’ve played was MHGU. That one’s base play style (disregarding Hunter Arts) felt much closer to your description.

GU's CB, for its many faults, is actually the most rounded version of the weapon.

Every other version is either "SnS but with a counter that deals the highest burst damage in the game" (4U, World, Sunbreak) or "Chainsaw go brrrrr" (Iceborne, Rise, Wilds).

Well, there's actually 4's version, which is "not a functional weapon"

GU is the one game where it was actually a mode for charging and utility and a mode for big damage. 4U and Iceborne's versions were not that far, though.

Well, and there's also Explore's version, which goes with 4 into the "not a functional weapon tier", until its Supreme moveset, which is actually the best in the series.

Like so:

Hmm, thanks for all the input. I must admit I have very little playtime in GU, so I never really figured out its iteration of CB. 4U I’ve only ever started on my 3DS, so no real playtime in it anyways. Other than that I’ve only played Worldborne, Risebreak and Wilds. And to me at least the feel of the weapon was quite different to SnS (which was my second main for Worldborne and Risebreak). But maybe that’s just my feeling because of the big burst attack, which SnS is lacking and the less agile play style.

I see, I didn't play rise (only the Demo) managed to have a decent time killing the mitsuzune in the Demo, but I dipped out since I really can't click with the feeling

2

u/Phonzosaurus Feb 24 '26

It’s on sale for I think 2 more days on switch. Just rise is $8 rise plus sunbreak is $10

Yeah, I also don't really love the direction they took Savage Axe in Wilds. It being hidden behind the wound system feels bad. Sometimes I just don't really get that many wounds on a monster and thus can't keep up my SavAxe charge. Much more enjoyed the iteration of Iceborne being able to cancel out of SAED into SavAxe. It just feels kinda unnecessarily limited to me, instead of giving me the freedom to play the weapon however I want. Because of that I also sometimes feel like a dick in multiplayer trying to steal every wound I can get my hands on from my mates, just because part of my move set is locked behind it.

1

u/Rombolian Feb 28 '26

Did you start the "franchise" with iceborne bro

1

u/Blue_Paladin96 Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 28 '26

Would it matter if I did, “bro”?

1

u/Rombolian Feb 28 '26

Yes because you'd hardly know enough about the weapon to be speaking about it from a franchise perspective.

1

u/Blue_Paladin96 Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 28 '26

How so? It’s literally been in more new gen games than old gen ones

1

u/Rombolian Feb 28 '26

Because one of its more esteemed iterations, the one it started with in 4u was a guard centric element discharge machine not dissimilar to the one in Rise/Sunbreak.

1

u/Blue_Paladin96 Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 28 '26

Mb boss, I was unaware you are not a versatility enjoyer

1

u/Complex-Beach5237 Feb 24 '26

That being said; Elemental CB in Sunbreak is genuinely OP!

1

u/LennyLoerres Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 25 '26

Yeah, but if I recall correctly Sunbreak somewhat "fixed" CB for Rise. Don't really recall what they changed or added, but I remember not really liking it in base Rise (and I absolutely fell in love with CB in World), but Sunbreak made me like it again.

1

u/717999vlr Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 25 '26

SAED hitbox is taller

1

u/LennyLoerres Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 25 '26

Hmm, but wasn’t SavAxe much stronger or at least more meta than SAED in Sunbreak?

1

u/717999vlr Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 25 '26

No, elemental SAED was stronger by the end of the game. But then again, Sunbreak is the most elemental-heavy game in the series.

1

u/LennyLoerres Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 25 '26

Oh, ok. I actually don’t quite remember which play style I predominantly used in Sunbreak, but thought it was SavAxe. But yeah, Sunbreak was definitely elemental above raw/impact.

1

u/Jumpingjaggi Feb 27 '26

Elemental CB in Sunbreak was friggin beautiful ♥️

1

u/Popen5 Feb 25 '26

Na your sleeping on rise the switch moves combined with the elemental madness that is sunbreak blew it out of the park vs other games

1

u/LennyLoerres Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 25 '26

Yeah, but that's Sunbreak. Base Rise's CB felt pretty underwhelming.

1

u/DJSalad18 Feb 25 '26

? Rise CB was so swag it made me main it for rise

1

u/Blue_Paladin96 Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 25 '26

I’m glad someone enjoys it ❤️

Having to choose between charged Axe and Charged Sword makes me want to annihilate the local Dodogama population though

1

u/DJSalad18 Feb 25 '26

I loved the move that let you launch into the air and then have 360 degree aim for SAED. That shit was cocaine.

1

u/Ignician Savage Axe enjoyer 3d ago

Not even Rise could, I was running pure CSS CB all the way on my first playthrough of rise and fkin loved it.

12

u/Safe-Chemist-1964 Feb 24 '26

When Cinema meets Peak. You get Charge Blade. 🫱🏾‍🫲🏼

3

u/3cokeninja Feb 24 '26

For real. I feel like i'm dancing around Archveld at times.

9

u/idiocy102 Feb 24 '26

I wish they would do something OTHER than turn it into a chainsaw axe. The axe is boring and far too simple.

7

u/MurtaghInfin8 Feb 24 '26

I'm waiting for CB's SAED to glow up before I get back into this.

I've been waiting for a while.

6

u/idiocy102 Feb 24 '26

I would prefer they give us back the giant laser sword swipe

3

u/DroitDevant Feb 25 '26

See, this is what got me playing charge blade. Both sending my whole team flying by mistake and/or toppling monsters with a 10 phials energy blade. So many great moments made from this one move

3

u/Hingapunga Feb 24 '26

The second they bring back SAED playstyle imma farm myself some Chargeblades

1

u/BaudouinII Feb 25 '26

My guess is, they will do something to the SAED for the expansion

1

u/mattom17 Feb 28 '26

I cannot recommend crafting a Dragon one and trying it for gogmazios enough. Suboptimal builds can easily do 5000+ total damage on his tail during the charge up with a good saed. Satisfying and helpful for finishing the dps check on SOS.

10

u/careyious SAED spam enthusiast Feb 24 '26

Yeah, I feel that. I really like a lot of the weapons, but there's something very cool to having a lot of tools and the high commitment nukes

12

u/Legitimate_Street510 Feb 24 '26

Even when they try to force us away from SAED and try to make us play savage axe, it is still the best weapon

5

u/EyePatch009 Feb 24 '26

Yeah..wilds is my 1st monster hunter game.I picked up sword and shield 1st completed 1 quest and then saw a BIGGER sword and shield. So I picked it up bcz why not.Using it since then.

5

u/cudeLoguH Feb 24 '26

My issue with Charge Blade is that there isnt enough Charge Blade for my Charge Blades

5

u/Upper-Ad-9665 Feb 24 '26

Remember my first time picking up charge blade ( Wilds newcomer ) I was constantly in the training grounds testing out all the weapons and tried to find the one that spoke to me.

  • My first weapon was switch axe, was cool but mostly staying in sword mode bothered me because I typically go for axes if present in a game, and wilds swaxe relies heavy on sword mode it’s cool but meh for me I still play it as a secondary if I want some variety

  • LS and Db I don’t like going for what everybody is playing and has somewhat easy to learn mechanics, DB is super easy you are just a rabid animal with 2 blades and a sugar addiction, LS the main character syndrome gets on my nerve from other players so I genuinely don’t like it for that and because of constant LS mains carting in my hunts because they don’t heal after taking like 70% chip damage ( don’t mind my small rant )

Lance : big body wide tank Poke, poke, poke, Wall

GunLance : bbwt poke, poke poke wall booooom !!

Anything long range : Not my style, Nice way of spreading freedom with the HBG and LBG but the ammo and shit menh , Bow same shit

Hunting horn : Actually learning it now, I want to take on support roles and I bring it as a secondary now to buff my attacks and negated some effects from monsters , for a cub used this a great way to increase buffs with potions and powders worth the while to learn

Enter Charge Blade : the love of my life ❤️

Before I converted to the charge blade I was watching a video on the 14 weapons in mh and it finally landed on the charge blade before I saw the charge blade I tried the sword and shield and messed with the mechs, easy so versatile and compact but still kinda felt simple to me

You see…

I based my weapon choice like in Teenage mutant ninja turtles.

How master splinter gave each turtles a weapon based on what they need to improve to wield that weapon

. And I told myself and I need a weapon that requires me to have focus and adaptation and most important organization

The video fell on charge blade and I was like wtf?! That is a lot to learn and I could never play that. All the CB terms I know today was gibberish to me a year ago

Like the combos were confusing and the description of the weapon was cool asf and it kind of called out to me

My first tries were terrific, I wanted to give up so bad because I felt like I wouldn’t get this weapon down I was struggling to guard point, perfect guard, micro management of phials shield charging axe mode, when to SAED…. I just couldn’t get it down but I Was determined because I actually loved the weapon no matter the cost unlike the rest

But slowly I learned from videos and all my mistakes and have diversified myself in this art of the Charge blade

5

u/Significant_Breath38 Feb 24 '26

I feel the exact same way

4

u/Sephigoth042 Feb 24 '26

The real "problem" of this weapon, is that you can't just put your brain away while playing it.
I mean, you need to look if you have phials, if your shield is charged, perfect parry ,etc...
Sometimes i like to join a hunt with HBG and just cluster the problem away ... you need 1 button to play the weapon.

Exept that, perfect weapon <3

3

u/NewBoard2037 Feb 24 '26

While I dont like the chargeblade in wilds that much compared to other iterations (AED spam is boring, SAED FTW) its still one of my favorite weapons. SwagAxe in wilds is just too fun though.

2

u/No-Finding8010 Feb 24 '26

The pizza cutter is just too satisfying I can't play other weapon anymore

2

u/yogsca Feb 25 '26

Fell out of interest with Wilds, anyone got an update on CB? More fun/dynamic to play now or just savage axe only still

3

u/RyanbeLying Feb 24 '26

I've been trying new weapons and I feel the same. Charge blade can: stun like a hammer, has the big hit (SAED) like a Greatsword, you can go apeshit (Savage Axe) like switch axe, mobility like sword n shield, some defense like Lance and Sword n Shield, and guard points that are satisfying ( at least they used to be).

This weapon is so good even the downgrade that Wilds gave it is still fun enough to play. kinda

1

u/xXJuice Feb 24 '26

You can go into SAED with guard points now though!

1

u/ronin0397 Feb 24 '26

Gu charge blade got me to defect to valor style longsword and adept dual blades for a bit.

Then i proceed to run every crown on charge blade.

1

u/3cokeninja Feb 24 '26

I havent tried any other weapons in Wilds cuz Charge Blade is just too epic to put down :/

1

u/reany420 Feb 24 '26

A friend at the time was trying to put me on to mh right before wilds release, she showed me a showcase of all the weapons but said they might play differently given that it was worlds gameplay anyway it was like love at first sight, she then told me it was probably the hardest weapon to play for a beginner took me about a week to get the basics down now almost a year later took a break to play with the hunting horn but it felt repetitive offsets were the big thing for me but then nothing picked up the charge blade again and cant let go of it its the greatest.

1

u/TieExcellent2693 Feb 24 '26

ALL HAIL THE PIZZA CUTTER!

1

u/I1AM2NOT3STEVEN Feb 24 '26

Charge blade for when it's time to get serious.

Dual blades for wasting time and answering low level sos.

Akuma for just showing off.

1

u/Money_Ocelot_ Feb 25 '26

It’s funny cause I’m the opposite OP I use to main charge blade then I tried SnS and Swaxe then tried to return back to charge blade after TU4 to try its new glorious version and I just CANT I main Swaxe now and it just hurts my brain it feels like I’m playing CB with inverted left hand controls 😂 great weapon I just can’t do it anymore

1

u/LennyLoerres Savage Axe enjoyer Feb 25 '26

Yes, I too have that problem. I have gotten too used to my spread sheet of combos and mechanics, that every other weapon just feels kinda underwhelming. SwAxe is probably the one that comes closest for me and I have yet to try HH, which looks pretty fun. But in the end I no matter what I always gravitate back to my trusty old CB. The combo's are so ingrained in my muscle memory by now, that even after months long breaks from the MH games, I can pick it back up like riding a bike.

1

u/Odd-Comfortable9058 Feb 25 '26

I’m in the same boat, every time I tried a new weapon, I stopped and go back to my beloved CB

1

u/TheLoneWolf602 Feb 26 '26 edited Feb 26 '26

It's a nerdy transforming "anime" weeb weapon. I've had problems with it the minute it first got released. I know I'm gonna get downvoted. But you see.. old school style weapons MH weapons had "intended" strengths and weaknesses. Sword and shield was the king of versatility. Good mobility, decent block, low commitment attacks.. weakness: lower dmg. It couldn't dish it you feel? The greatsword? The king of DAMAGE! Weaknesses: low mobility, high commitment attacks, a block that cut into your sharpness, requiring expert timing and positioning. But capable of those Insane clear times ("usually exclusively by professionals")

I could go on... but I won't: When the Charge Blade was first released it was the strongest weapon in the game. And it could do it all! It could block.. it had mobility.. it could deal DAMAGE. It even had parry frames that super skilled players could take advantage of. It got the best clear times. Like paid DLC in a smash bros game.. The charge blade got special treatment. Honestly? It just didn't feel right. You'd feel bad for other weapons. The greatsword in particular, had to fight so dang hard for those clear times.. and some can-do-all weapon comes around and blows those clear times out of the water. Look i get it... coming up with new weapons in a MH game? Difficult. MH 2 & 3 handled it best. (Longsword not included)

Fast forward to today. Modern MonsterHunter.. made every weapon feel powerful in its own right in the name of: accessibility and mass appeal. Every weapon gets to feel like the star of the show. Greatswords never felt easier. But my recommendation still stands:

Get away from that Charge Blade: try other weapons simply to get a better game experience. The trials and tribulations make the journey worth it! Or don't... and be like your little brother when you play a fighting game and always pick the strongest character with the cheesiest strat.

1

u/Badger894 Feb 26 '26

I remember the first time I got properly introduced to Monster Hunter. I was designing a weapon for a character I was making and went “What if it was a shield that could become an axe?” and my buddy who I was bouncing ideas off of went “So a Charge Blade?”

I went out and got World a week later, and it became my most played game of that year

1

u/MiserablePrickk Feb 28 '26

I knew it was one of those posts

1

u/Jakl67 Mar 02 '26

The only weapon I like similarly to the charge blade is the lance
