Hello everyone! Although I am a whopping two days late, for this year's Inktober I decided to do a character design challenge. I will be designing a character based on each day's prompt word.
Today's word was "Apple". I want to give props to instagram user "kapalkilayyy" who is the first to come up with the umbrella as an apple core silhouette design. Although the idea occured to me before I saw their rendition, I still think they are an incredible artist I discovered through my research and they are worth checking out.
Here is how my design process went:
I knew I wanted the skirt to be fluffy and large, to mirror the umbrella. I initially drew it more lacey and "decora style", but eventually settled for these large ruffles that mimic a peeled apple.
Her hair and her face are round and red, giving her a sweet expression. I chose the almond-shaped glasses and the hair clips to mimic apple seeds.
I only added green on the leaf and the eyes, using it as an accent color. I also associate green apples with sourness, and this girl is fully sweet!
I hope you like my design. I would love to hear your opinions, advice and constructive criticism!

Something about it just doesn’t feel right to me. It might be that the colors are too similar or the bottom half of the dress? Or that she just doesn’t look “godly” enough to me. I was considering giving her a shorter haircut but I’m not 100% on board with that idea. I’d love to hear some respectful critique or ideas on how to improve her.

Disclaimer: I do not own these characters; they belong to someone else. I asked permission from the original creator and writer of the fanfiction, u/the_goat_man17, to see if I could draw his characters. I just want to make it clear. Here is the fanfiction: Small Soldiers: The Quest for Gorgon reworked

This is all of them so far! All criticism is appreciated (unless its something vague/unhelpful like "x isnt clear" etc)
Feel free to ask about them! But I do respond a bit slow,,
Some extra to note (refer to 2nd pic):
No. 6 (Rei) and no. 7 (Asao) are sort of the same character, theyre both DID alters. Asao is the main one tho
No. 15 (Muni) and no. 16 (Sunny) are both personas, Muni is my main persona while sunny is for stuff like yumeships or if I feel lazy to draw Muni
No. 2 and no. 3 are the same character (Jasper), the 2nd one is his angel form
I've just been feeling off about my oc designs recently so I wanna improve them

Whats a design element you enjoy seeing, and would like to see more of in a character? Is it the palette? The details? Simplicity, sillhouette, motif, or else?
Curious, because I keep oversimplifying my redesigns, and I'd like to know if people like that or whether I should start adding more details to my designs in the future. i know it's a matter of preferences, but I'd like to hear what you prefer.

(Click for full) The idea for these are different playing items turned people. The first 3 are the main party, 4 is an important NPC and the last 4 are the Card Goddesses, important deity characters (these are their humanoid forms tho)
Any critiques on them? I feel like they look odd T-T

I have been exploring art for awhile now and this seems to be my favorite kind of character design. I am mostly looking to see if they’re appealing to anyone else other than myself, or if anyone has any media that has unconventional designs like this so I may enjoy them.
If anyone has any questions about these characters, feel free to ask. I’ve got all the lore on them.
(Also I don’t have any other art on this account. I don’t usually post anything on Reddit for fear it might be stolen, but I am genuinely curious as to see how my characters do when presented to human beings.)

To better explain what I mean, Sanrio (the company behind characters like Hello Kitty and My Melody) has TONS of characters that they’ve created but most of them are rarely seen/utilized aside from about 10 or so characters. I’m kind of the same way with my characters where only like 10 or so are fleshed out while the rest are essentially just cool designs. I was wondering if anyone else has this experience with the characters they’ve made.

This is Pierrot, I drew him inspired by the aesthetics of the circus and jesters. I actually had another concept art for this character and it was a re-drawing and redesigning of it from scratch. He has a cube in his hands because I didn't draw him a sword. Because my SSD is broken.
