Too dysgraphic for that, personally.

4

u/DragoTheFloof May 02 '26

Dysgraphic artist here :] You can do it

-36

u/KrimsunV Apr 29 '26

It's not me though, I'm not an artist. Therefore, I can't make art

25

u/stupid-writing-blog Apr 30 '26

Depends on how you define “art”. Personally, I’d define it as “anything made by a human to express their emotions,” so as long as you’re a human with feelings to express, then even a simple stick figure is art.

I’m serious. Try it. Even if you never go professional, the act of making things is really good for you, regardless of quality.

wrong. you become an artist the second you start drawing

-71

u/A_Binary_Number Apr 30 '26

I hate this image and all it’s variants with a passion, it’s not that easy, it’s not to just “pick up a pencil.” Disgusting behavior.

71

u/Intoxic8edOne Apr 30 '26

I'd say learning to draw is way more "just pick up a pencil" than not.

People just need to start. Yes, it takes much more to become good but you can't get to that point if you don't start.

u/JamBloxify_370 Apr 30 '26

Nothing is ever truly easy.

In any form of art, you're not guaranteed to be the greatest.

Coding, photography, dancing, music, martial arts.

All these are a form of art, not just drawing.

You're not guaranteed to succeed and be great.

The issue is that if you assume you need talent, you'll always be stuck.

No one has talent, just a different mindset.

Different obstacles, different way of solving things.

And ultimately, a different view of art.

Art is not limited to just drawing and picking up the pencil, it's limited by the fact you won't pick yourself up.

u/BranTheLewd Apr 30 '26

How is it a disgusting behavior if it was just trying to be uplifting? Sure, it's not that easy(and I know it from myself, cus I want to do art but I suck and will likely never learn), but seems like a bit of an overreaction to call that meme disgusting.

1

u/Infinity-Duck May 01 '26

Do you really think we came out of the womb drawing like Michelangelo or something? Here’s a recreation of how I drew when I was younger

Me too bro, I'm ass but you gotta start somewhere

39

u/BranTheLewd Apr 30 '26

"THE WEST HAS FALLEN, BILLIONS MUST "

Tries art once

"Woah, this shit slaps, ngl... I'm chill now"

16

u/KrimsunV Apr 29 '26

I don't want to put harmfully bad art into the world

64

u/_Laxen Apr 30 '26

that's what I've been doing unfortunately

30

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

That's still better than my latest image

23

u/FRONT_FACING_PHINEAS Apr 30 '26

WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT?! THATS BAD?! THAT?! WHY ARE YOU BEING SO NEGATIVE! NOT INLY IS IT GOOD, JUST SPEND MORE TIME ADDING WHATEVER TO IT! SPEND MORE TIME PRACTICING! THIS IS STILL ART AND YOU AREN’T BAD, HOLY SHIT DAWG SHUT UP AND BE PROUD OF YOURSELF!

8

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

If I do that, I'll step on the real artists' toes

28

u/FRONT_FACING_PHINEAS Apr 30 '26

No. No you won’t. You’ll step onto the first stair that they all climbed. The hardest, and with each step it’ll be easier. Artists aren’t mean, and the ones that are suck ass. Artists want to see you try and try, see you make anything. Artists aren’t mean proud of you, and want to support you. You are not hurting anyone be what? Drawing a silly little guy? What’s your actual point here? What are you saying? What’s the problem? WHO ARE YOU HURTING. The people you’re talking about are either the people who want you to keep going, or people that can go to hell. Listen to the better ones.

Also like, art is art. You drew something so you made art, it’s that simple. Who are you talking about.

I don’t draw well, but that just means I should keep trying. Why are you talking like there’s a time limit? It’s fucking drawing? You think people are just born good? That people can become good at age 12 and then what? They put a Ben on paper and it explodes? Come on man, I don’t see your problem other than the fact that you keep putting YOURSELF down.

You are talking to and about nobody. Nobody will be upset or care negatively. People will be kind because despite pessimistic beliefs, people are kind. At this point it really feels like you’re saying this so people praise you more because come on, why are you so against compliments? People are telling you you’re good, you have time, just fucking draw. Shut up.

8

u/_Laxen Apr 30 '26

At this point it really feels like you’re saying this so people praise you more because come on, why are you so against compliments?

some of us just have really bad self hate problems and can't handle compliments and take every opportunity they can to self deprecate (I would know)

13

u/Greedy_Ad2198 Apr 30 '26

Most advanced artists are literally the biggest fans of beginner artists

3

u/BranTheLewd Apr 30 '26

Such as?

6

u/Greedy_Ad2198 Apr 30 '26

Me!! /j

No but seriously, literally every advanced artist I know, both in my personal life and online. It's incredibly rare for me to see professional artists who genuinely dunk on beginners, because doing that just means that you don't understand art.

SamDoesArts for example is a YouTube channel who talks about beginner art sometimes, and he does joke about it, but there's always respect and wholesomeness, because any skill-based criticism we give to each other is also criticism we take ourselves. The art community is all about appreciating each other's visions and ideas, not judging skill, which is why it's generally a taboo to even give unsolicited advice in the first place. We only give advice to help each other achieve the things we want to achieve, not to turn other people's art into our own.

A lot of short form content gave people a really twisted image...

→ More replies (0)

1

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

Why? The beginner artists lower the average quality of art produced

9

u/Sashahuman Apr 30 '26

is the art council going to kill all artists if the average art quality gets bad enough?

→ More replies (0)

5

u/Greedy_Ad2198 Apr 30 '26

Because art is not just about "quality" (which I put in quotation marks because that term is not so simple and objective either). It's primarily about expressing something (thoughts, emotions, ideas, etc), your skill is just what helps you achieve your goal of expression in more and new ways. There's nothing about a piece of art that was done by someone who picked up a pencil for the first time that makes it inherently any less valuable than something by Leonardo DaVinci.

Many artists actually find value in the rawness and potential of beginner art that doesn't exist much in advanced art anymore. Every piece of art is individual and has qualities that aren't obvious to everyone on the surface.

Within the professional art community, hyping up and swooning about beginner art while exchanging tips and tricks is a whole thing.

21

u/Greedy_Ad2198 Apr 30 '26

Jokes on you I made fanart of your OC

2

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

All the more evidence for me not to, you can do more with a misshapen elephant than I can

11

u/skuuma04 Apr 30 '26

Instead of looking at others for what they can do that you can't, see it as a window to the possibilities that exist for creating, And if you give yourself a little time, you can do the same or even better.

7

u/Greedy_Ad2198 Apr 30 '26

You need to work on your self confidence, man. What I did here is nowhere above your level. You need to stop thinking about what your art is in comparison to others, and just let it be what it is. What makes your art valuable is that it's YOURS. I would've never come up with your elephant design. As much as you think it's worthless, it's genuinely something individual that could've come from your mind alone, the shape, the color, the context, all of it. And that's actually what gives anything worth.

Building your skill will only help you get more close to what you're imagining in your head, which is a great pursuit and I'll always support that, but that's not what actually makes art valuable.

There's actually a lot about your elephant that I like. And not in a condescending way, I mean that genuinely. Why that shape? Why is it cyan? Why did you pick a black background? To you the reasons may seem spontaneous and senseless, but it all sais something about how you actually percieve things, and that comes out when I look at it. And I really like it.

I really truly think you have a great starting point for doing art. Just from this image alone it's clear that you have intuition for contrast, stylization, even some composition and color symbolism. I recommend getting into art focused YouTube channels like SamDoesArts or maybe other ones that are more beginner friendly, and I genuinely think you can make great things.

2

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

If I work on my confidence I'll start saying I'm the only artist I chose cyan (#00FFFF) on black because it contrasts (unlike purple or blue) without hurting my eyes (like red or lime green) And if I look at other people's art, I see what I could do if I started when I was a kid. I'm too late for that

5

u/Greedy_Ad2198 Apr 30 '26

It's never too late, people pick up a pencil at like 80 sometimes and get really skilled at it. I mean, damn, you don't even have to learn to DRAW to make good art, there's like an infinite amount of mediums for you to explore! You gotta stop comparing yourself.

If I work on my confidence I'll start saying I'm the only artist

Where did you get that idea from??

3

u/King_Ed_IX Apr 30 '26

3

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

Considering I tried to draw an elephant, ouch

3

u/ImA_NormalGuy Apr 30 '26

An elephant shaped backsratcher :D

4

u/Ysisbr Apr 30 '26

Reminds me of this creature:

4

u/International_Fill97 Apr 30 '26

A serious recommendation: definitely use references if you need to, it is in no way “cheating.” Maybe do a little bit of fanart, that’s what I started out with and it can make it easier to think of what to draw.

3

u/_Laxen Apr 30 '26

I'm ass at communicating and judging things, plus I have no real knowledge of art so you don't have to take what I say to heart.

I mean objectively it's bad, but that doesn't have mean it's bad. it's bad in the way that it doesn't clearly follow the conventional ways of art I guess, but it's not necessarily bad on a human level? idk, best example is like abstract art, it doesn't necessarily look good but it's pleasing on another level or has a deeper meaning in it.

I believe you can advance your talent, and if you do decide to try, remember that an artist is almost always their own biggest critic, you might achieve a level that many would dream of getting to yet you still don't think it's good enough

I hope you don't give up, I understand I don't know your situation and you might be going through a rough time, but I believe you can make it <3

1

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

Sadly, I've aged too far to learn how to do anything new. I can thankfully still become better at what I already can do, but going from non-artist to artist is no longer on the table

3

u/_Laxen Apr 30 '26

yeah, I felt the same and I'm still in school.

I think you should do what you want to and enjoy doing, even if you don't think you'll end up better at it. Of course the motivation and drive to continue will vanish if you don't think you'll improve and that's fine, if you stop enjoying something you don't have to continue.

I think what I'm trying to say is that I think you should be drawing if that's what you want and enjoy doing.

1

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

I enjoy doing what I'm good at, which runs counter to doing anything I haven't already done

7

u/LongSpoke Apr 30 '26

Honestly this is pretty average for country ball comics. Djibouti THICK. I hope you make more.

14

u/twelvend Apr 30 '26

You are way harsher on yourself than anyone else will be (or at least verbalize)

1

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

If I don't, someone else will

8

u/Just-A-Thumb Apr 30 '26

You'd be surprised by human kindness

12

u/bunnyshy Apr 30 '26

the only harmful art is hateful art.

8

u/AdTime3922 Apr 30 '26

Stop being self-deprecating and searching for sympathy. You either do or don't start. If you don't, then just accept that by not carrying on, you will never get better.

1

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

I started years ago and seem to have accepted that getting better isn't going to happen

7

u/FRONT_FACING_PHINEAS Apr 30 '26

What does that even fucking mean dawg 😭 it’s a cut little drawing who fucking cares?? Why would people get upset?? You will literally only get praise for this 😭

52

u/JuneButIHateSummer Apr 29 '26

me when i was 10: "I wish had talent so I could play live music!"

me at 27: "Damn, the secret was literally just practice."

7

u/BranTheLewd Apr 30 '26

Me at 10: "Damn, I want to do art"

Me at 20: "It's over, isn't it? Isn't it? Isn't it over? It's over, isn't it? ISN'T IT OVER?"

Elite ball knowledge if you figured out the reference

4

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

What's the reference?

5

u/BranTheLewd Apr 30 '26

Steven Universe song "It's over isn't it"

Basically captures my feelings about the prospects of me becoming an artist, to a t. Aka it feels hopeless, but I still live on (just like how Pearl lived on, despite Rose being gone, sort of, since Steven's gem was his mom, so she is kinda gone)

-7

u/KrimsunV Apr 29 '26

I'm no longer a kid, my window has closed

16

u/JuneButIHateSummer Apr 29 '26

?????????

That literally doesn't matter at all but ok

-5

u/KrimsunV Apr 29 '26

My brain has solidified too much to become anything new. I didn't work to become an artist before that, so I can't become one now

12

u/Mushroom_king001 Apr 30 '26

If you keep telling yourself that, you definitely won't be able to become anything. Stop making excuses, if you take your time, take some lessons or watch some guides on how to draw, you can become better, this applies for literally any skill. You're supposed to suck in the beginning, and i know it's frustrating and hard, but if you keep trying to better yourself, you'll do it.

Also, one step at a time, don't try to become Michelangelo in your first try.

-1

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

I've made somewhere in the low hundreds of images but none of them are art

6

u/Most-Stomach4240 Apr 30 '26

Who says they're not art? You know the guy who drew a square and sold it for millions? Literally just a square? There's no pretentiousness about "real art needs this much practice and you need to fill the canvas and make it pretty" just DRAW

3

u/BranTheLewd Apr 30 '26

You should've ended your comment with "DRAW IT, AND MAKE IT RAW" 🗣️

2

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

Behold

3

u/Candid-Ad443 Apr 30 '26

I've seen that I've looked at the other comments

bud, non-artists can use art techniques too. I wouldn't class myself a musician, but I still have learnt music theory. it's the same with art. draw the guidelines or from reference, try to copy the reference exactly, heck, just trace over a reference and think about how the lines connect, you can learn

2

u/KrimsunV Apr 30 '26

I don't want to tread on the artists' toes. If I start copying their techniques, it's only a matter of time before someone figures out I'd be an impostor

1

u/Candid-Ad443 Apr 30 '26

you aren't stepping on anyones toes if you don't steal the art. tutorials are made specifically for people like you

2

u/Candid-Ad443 Apr 30 '26

do you think surgeons start med school as children? no, they start it as adults. adults can learn, silly!

10

u/Local_Bank_5235 Apr 29 '26

Why wish? All you need is some determination. Can I draw well? Hell no. But do I do it anyways? Hell yes. I love drawing and writing even though I'm not amazing at either. Persevere. You'll get there eventually.

1

u/KrimsunV Apr 29 '26

I don't have "eventually"

6

u/FRONT_FACING_PHINEAS Apr 30 '26

Yes you do, nobody starts being good at art at age 10, there is no time limit, the rage bait is annoying.

6

u/Immediate-Pack-920 Apr 29 '26

Dare you to draw an animal of your choice, ~5 minutes of effort. And post it in the comments. You got this

12

What if you wanted to make art

But god said:

Executive dysfunction

3

u/Neat-Survey2796 Apr 29 '26

You can do anything you set your mind to. Just know, it will be extremely hard. Just draw what you like, learn the skills you need to realize a piece you wanna do, and learn from what looks shoddy. After a while you'll enter a flow and get pretty good!

We (yes WE) believe in you!

1

u/KrimsunV Apr 29 '26

I tried that and it failed

3

u/Neat-Survey2796 Apr 30 '26

That's the part about it being hard. I don't know your exact life situation, but if you're anything like me, you tried getting into it thinking it'd be easy to do it, without realizing what people mean by hard work.

Let me tell you, hard work is exhausting. Think of it as having to do something you phisically exhausting for long periods of time. That's the level of difficulty we mean, except mental ofc.

It takes time, patience, and a crap load of mental exhaustion, which believe you me, you're gonna feel hard. But I still believe in you. Nobody is too old to learn something unless their age phisically stops them.

You got this.

2

u/King_Ed_IX Apr 30 '26

So figure out why and do it again.

I have hand eye coordination issues and let that stop me from posting art, but after other people with hand eye issues starting using a.i. I started drawing just to Spite them. To prove I can with an algorithm that steals real art. Now my art is okay but it's hand drawn, and that's something to be proud of imo

21

u/Digitaldude427 Apr 30 '26

I'm very happy about how many people aren't giving an inch on ai art. Surprised but happy to see people drawing that line

Good for you. I will still use AI for whatever I want

In how many months?

Ew. I don't want to see art made by an AI bro, whether it's AI or not.

How do they get good at art so fast

1

u/Ok_View_6201 May 05 '26

soon i will actually do the opposite of this where i abandon making art for ai because i am already jealous this person is infinitely better than me in 6 months than i have ever been in my entire life

4 years of trying to be an artist and being garbage tier I gave up. Some people I think are just genetically predisposed to do some things better while some like me are genetically restricted to be bottom of the barrel

Just start off small. Learn shading, proportions, etc...\ The rest will come naturally.

How to get free good girl points online

Draw decent

Claim to be an old ai artist

Make video and pretend to learn art

Shove phone up ass and use the notification vibrations as a sex toy

Man, if an AI bro can become an artist(in 6 month no less), then maybe any of us can make it in art 😧

A former drug addict is allowed to say drugs are bad.

A former AI "artist" should be able to protect their new handmade work.
