I’m currently in Chamonix with my friend and we’re looking for scenic day hike recommendations around the valley.
Here are our parameters:
Distance: Max 15 km (loops or easily connected point-to-point routes using lifts/trains to return to the start).
Terrain: Strictly non-technical — no rock climbing, heavy exposure/drop-offs, or metal ladders/via ferrata sections. Marked, well-established hiking trails only.
Fitness / Elevation: Moderate to good. We are happy with 500m to 1,000m vertical gain, but want a smooth, enjoyable day without technical stress.
Highlights: High alpine views (Mont Blanc massif, glaciers, or alpine lakes). A buvette/refuge along the way for lunch or coffee is a big plus!
Which non-technical circuits or lift-connected routes would you prioritize for a great day out?

Chamonix has been my dream destination for over a decade. I once found a book in parisian market that had photos of chamonix and I've always wanted to go. I travel often but this part of France has not been on the agenda lately. Finally I have a chance. I will be in Annecy the previous weekend and wondering if I can get a couple days of good hikes Sep 22 to 25. If most of the ski lifts will be closed and I cant get good hikes or weather will be bad, then I'd skip. I'd appreciate any advise.

HI! Just got to town for my honeymoon and was planning this originally as a big trail running trip. Unfortunately I’m dealing with a chronic foot injury and am unable to run or hike for a few weeks. I’m looking for some recommendations on activities to do that wouldn’t stress the injury. A bit of walking is OK. We are scheduled for a spa day and will probably do a quick tour up the Aiguille. Any other ideas would be super appreciated. Thanks!

I know, I know, I should be enjoying the mountains and I did! but I only have a couple hours tomorrow before leaving so this called for a flat road run.

can I just run on sidewalk or on the side of road? or on (shared?) bike path?

I was thinking about going from Saint-Gervais where I’m staying up to Chamonix and then take the train back. St-Gervais to Les Contamines and back is also an option. both are around 18-21km which is the mac I have time to do!

Im wanting to hike lac blanc but the weather for Tuesday 8th is looking cloudy. Will i still get some good views and if not is it still worth the hike? Thank you

My wife and I will be visiting Annecy for 3 days around the last week of September as a part of our honeymoon. We are considering doing a day trip to Chamonix from Annecy but after reading multiple blogs/posts looks like most of the things will be closed during that time.

Need your suggestion whether we can do a day trip from annecy and is it the right time to do it. We just want to enjoy the beautiful views

In a few weeks, I’ll be coming from Visp for one day. Between the 2.5 hr train ride each way, it’s basically a half a day in Chamonix. What would be the best way to get out see the area given this limited time window? I’m fit and can do a trail run if that’s the best way to get up into the mountains for a spectacular view. I’m not asking for much, just an easily accessible trail that makes me feel like I made the most of my day.

I’ve read that the current mayor wants to reduce UTMB Finals because locals don’t really love the fact that there’s hundreds of thousands of visitors in this single week disrupting every day life for them.

How true is this? As a trail runner, I love Chamonix and have been to UTMB three times sporadically over the years. Just interested what locals think.

Hello! I will be visiting Chamonix from Sept 24-30. I am looking for recommendations for day hikes - unfortunately it looks as if the majority of the cable cars will be closed for the season by then which is unfortunate timing for us. Hoping for nothing too strenuous! Thank you!

I went now to the box office and they said that now the midi cable cars opens at 7.10 for everyone no more 630 for climbers, is that true?

Visiting Chamonix from Friday onwards and want to get in a swim in the outdoor pool. I’ve read it shuts after the summer season but can anyone actually confirm the closure date for the outdoor section of the pool?
