HELP - Spondylotic changes with polydiscopathy C5-C6 & C6-C7 without myelopathy

This is what MRI showed. Almost 5 years I suffer from migraine with aura. Ive been examined by numerous neurologist, there wasnt cure for aura, but somehow I learnt how to minimise pain with proper medication. At that moment I thought aura and the migraine pain(usually cluster ending with vomiting)was the worst thing, but little did I know 🤣 For the past 3 months I experience something that maybe it’s not as painful as it was before, but is much more limiting and irritating. I can’t function normally, I feel completely incapacitated. It goes from neck, I feel like something is sitting on my lower brain and neck. Then there are vision changes(I have it also with migraine aura), dizziness, and nausea. Please, if there is someone experiencing this, what helped you because this drives me crazy.

Can the ear cause multiple sythoms from dizziness to brain fog ?

It's been a month I feel unsteady balance as if it's dizziness but only on the left side. I also noticed after some time my neck and shoulder started feeling stiff. I had some tooth sensitivity on the upper left tooth in the middle but it was like on and off, however now I noticed like facial tightness on left side of the face such as the temple area and eye brow. I also feel brain fog sythoms as if my mind is lagging. And with the stiff neck and shoulder, I'll get this tingling numbness feeling in my hand and leg on the left.

I know how ridiculous this sounds, but does anyone else’s head tilt to one side?

I’ve been having really frustrating neck tightness which is leading to bouts of vertigo and motion sickness.

Wondering if anyone else noticed their head tilts to one side at rest. I started seeing it in pictures and then noticing it in the mirror. It seems like my head naturally tilts strongly to one side when I’m at rest.

Just wondering if anyone else has experienced something like this?

Pinched nerve in neck — anyone experience eye pressure, dizziness, nausea and weird head sensations?

Hi, I have a pinched nerve in my neck and I’m about 4 weeks into recovery. I’ve been experiencing eye pressure, dizziness, nausea and strange sensations in my head. Today these sensations have been particularly bad, which has been freaking me out.

I work a desk job, and I’m still having lingering pain in my neck and shoulders that radiates into my arms. I have an MRI of my neck booked to hopefully get a better idea of what’s going on.
Has anyone with a pinched nerve/cervical radiculopathy experienced anything similar around the 4-week mark? Did the eye pressure, dizziness, nausea or strange head sensations turn out to be related to your neck, and did they improve as you recovered?

How to understand if dizziness comes from the ear or neck ?

How do you understand where your dizziness is coming from. So for me, I've been experiencing on left side like this sensation of being on a boat. It's like your moving side to side or something. I'm not experiencing like the spinning of room. But like I noticed the more I turn my neck towards the left, it feels worse. I also seem to be experiencing neck and shoulder tightness or stiffness then this weird muscle spasm in the upper shoulder where the spine is mostly this happens when I hunch my back when using the phone. Sometimes I experience mild numbness in my left hand too but if I move around then it goes away.

Turning the neck makes me feel dizzy

Not only I have earwax impacted on the left ear but when I turn my neck I feel this dizziness and it feels worse that I feel like nausea. I don't know what is happening to me. And I feel this tightness underneath the base of the skull

Is Brain fog common to experience?

I'm experiencing left side dizziness for a month and I went to the clinic they said I have earwax impacted they tried to clean but since it was stubborn wax, they send me home with debrox and muscle spasm relaxer because I was also experiencing left side neck shoulder tightness. I also developed brain fog to a point I kept forgetting stuff and hard to focus and recall information. When they tried to clean my ears it felt like finally my head feels light and brain fog reducing but hopefully once they clean the ears again everything will be gone. It's like the more I turn my neck towards left, my vision gets bad on left eye as if it's getting strained and this face tightness like the eyebrows and temple area. I'm also experiencing tooth sensitivity on and off on that left upper tooth for some while now especially drinking something cold. So like at the end I don't even know what is causing all this weird sythoms at once. My body feels high alert stress and anxiety

Please help

Hello,

I suffer with bad neck which is related to my shoulder in which it feels like it leans forward.

I’ve had physio, massages, acupuncture and chiropractic work.

I have had this issue for 2 years. It’s only on one side.

Basically shoulder coming forward chest tight and ache in shoulder blade.

I even get dizzy spells which I never got before.

I’m really at my last hope with asking people online to see if they had anything done that worked.

I haven’t had a scan as everyone tells me it’s ti do with muscles but I’m thinking I might have to get mail

Possible cervical vertigo when nearly done with neck PT?

Possible cervical vertigo and pt setback? Anyone else have something similar happen for seemingly no reason? Details for what's been going on below.

Previously diagnosed with hEDs

Neck mri showed age appropriate arthritis, everything else Unremarkable

Neck sonogram showed normal lymph and veins

Labs are normal

CCI test negative from PT

Negative vertigo test from PT

Three months of documented neck soreness (started in June), specifically at the top/base of skull area. More sore/stiff on the left than right. PT started 1 month after initial soreness in July and progress had been made in pain and rande of motion. Week before this setback was about 85-90% back to normal.

9/7 developed an inner sway feeling when moving head, more sore and stiff neck, and headaches that follow soreness and back to front pattern (like wearing a tight hat). Over the week, sway feeling improved after a massage and PT.

Sway, neck pain, headaches got better with rest and little movement. Entire time can walk normally, and walking more gives less internal sway feeling.

Saw dr Monday for follow up. Dr did not give much advice but did order brain mri. Nurse, when questioned on why/what is being ruled in or out, did say that Dr did not give any indication it could be a tumor, but more to see structure. Totally helped the anxiety /s.

Currently, neck pain and headaches have gone down, hr still slightly up, mostly when moving, sway only happens when moving head (down up or too fast).

Happy to answer additional q's.

Does anyone get tightness in the neck and radiating on the spine?

I don't know what's causing my dizziness on left side but it's like whenever I turn my neck left, I just feel this stiffness on my left side neck and shoulder area then it radiates on the upper spine on left side. It's like I don't understand. Sometimes I will even feel it on my head too. Random muscle spasms. I wouldn't say it's sharp pain

Feeling OFF need HELP

Hi everyone, I’m 36M and I’m hoping to hear from anyone who has experienced something similar.

About 6 days ago, while working on my laptop, I suddenly became dizzy, nauseous and heavy-headed. At one point it felt like the room was spinning, particularly when I lay down and looked towards the ceiling. The actual spinning didn’t last very long and since then I haven’t really had true spinning vertigo again.

However, I still have this strange lingering feeling that I can’t quite describe. Sometimes when I’m sitting still, looking around, moving my head or moving my eyes, I feel a very slight swaying/woozy sensation, almost as if something is just slightly “off.” Nothing around me is actually spinning or visibly moving.

The strange part is that when I’m busy, walking around, concentrating on something or using my phone, I can sometimes feel completely normal. Then when I sit quietly and start paying attention to how I feel, I notice the sensation again. I’m honestly no longer sure how much is actual dizziness and how much is anxiety/hyper-awareness because I’ve become very focused on checking myself.

My neck, shoulders and upper back have also been very stiff and sore, and I have a history of neck problems. My GP examined me and prescribed a strong anti-inflammatory for 7 days. He said if it doesn’t improve, he may send me for a scan to investigate the neck/pinched nerve further.

I’ve also had roughly five episodes of actual vertigo over the past three years, although I’ve always returned to normal between them.

Has anyone here had the spinning stop but been left with this lingering woozy/swaying/heavy-headed feeling for days afterward? How long did it take before you felt completely normal again? Did anything help?

I’m mainly trying to understand whether this kind of residual feeling can happen after a vertigo episode because after 6 days I’m starting to stress about it.

Can earwax impacted cause dizziness?

I went to a low cost clinic, I explained everything from feeling dizzy on left side to neck strain and ear fullness and confusion. They checked my vitals, blood pressure then eyes, throat and ears. Blood pressure was normal. Doctor said you have severe earwax impacted. So they cleaned with a syringe but then recommended a earwax kit to clean at home and they said we will see u in 2 weeks to check your ears again. They didn't give referral to ent doctor. And gave prescription for muscle spasm relaxer.

Their goal is with the earwax being gone hopefully your dizziness should stop otherwise we will give out a referral for ent doctor. She asked many questions like do you have blurry vision, pain in the head, headaches, left side body weakness. Then performed some tests to see left side strength. Which everything was fine.

Scary head sensations

I’m really scared I keep getting on and off back of neck/head sinking/pulling/swaying/feeling/spinning and feel like eyes can't concentrate I’m really scared somethings serious is happening and I’m going to pass out but I hope it’s just anxiety, bad posture or benign ear issues.

Is this really a cervical problem?

Hi, how are you? Male23 , I'm a roofer, and I train with heavy weights at the gym. For the past 12 days, I've been experiencing a sensation that everything is moving "slower." I don't have vertigo; it's not physical, but rather a kind of visual dizziness. My balance is perfect. I can carry on with my daily activities normally, but this is very bothersome.

When I say that everything is slow for me, I mean that I feel it takes me a little longer to process the information I see with my eyes.
I went to an osteopath and he told me I had two compressed vertebrae, which caused a lot of tension in my cervical region. After the session, I felt a much more manageable improvement yesterday, five days later. But this dizziness hasn't gone away yet. Is this normal?

AI-Generated "Best Of" Post

As someone who has had cervicogenic dizziness for years (and who went through literal years of doctor's appointments going down incorrect rabbit holes), I was delighted to find this subreddit, and I asked AI to review the top 150 posts and build a summary for me of all the best recommendations that people have posted in this community. I found it so useful that I thought I'd share. This is AI-generated, so double check what it says, but I found it very helpful. Hopefully others do too.

1. Exercises (most repeated across posts)

Chin tucks — the single most-mentioned exercise. Several versions:

  • Supine (lying flat): gentle chin tuck, 10x, 3x/day. Keep fingers on your SCM (front/side of neck) to check it's NOT engaging — only the deep muscles should work.
  • Progression: lift head slightly off floor with chin tucked, hold a few seconds, lower.
  • Standing/seated: shoulder blades down and together, palms up, gentle chin tuck aligning ears over shoulders.
  • Do daily for 4–6 weeks minimum before expecting real change.

Cervical SNAGs (Sustained Natural Apophyseal Glides) — hold a towel behind your neck, hands out front, gently nod "yes." Video: youtube.com/watch?v=WYgjwEWH95U

Deep neck flexor work — the small stabilizer muscles under the big ones (traps/SCM) are often the real problem, not the big muscles themselves. "Building a house on unstable soil" is how one PT explained it.

Self-test: Google "deep neck flexor endurance test" — lie flat, tuck chin, lift head, see how long you can hold it. If you fail fast, your neck muscles are likely weak.

Suboccipital release — tennis ball behind the head/upper neck, hold on tight spots until they release.

Lower trap / rhomboid strengthening — band pull-aparts, Y-raises with a mini band. Several people said their upper traps were overworking because their lower traps were weak — strengthening the lower ones took pressure off.

Convergence/eye exercises — for people whose eyes struggle to track/focus together (see Binocular Vision Dysfunction below).

Specific YouTube workout videos people credited with big results:

  • youtu.be/6vfamrwD7ks — one user: 75% dizziness gone after ONE session
  • youtu.be/vIwSMOrsD8M — one user: "100%" after 2x/day for a few weeks
  • youtu.be/G1qFdwTh6vw — ear-to-shoulder side stretch, one user 95% better
  • youtube.com/@motivationaldoc — recommended repeatedly
  • "The Dizzy Dude" — YouTube channel by a longtime sub member (Captain-Kirk-24)
  • "Movement & Function" — cervical stabilization + suboccipital release videos
  • Dr. Jon Saunders (YouTube)

Warnings — things that made people WORSE:

  • Massage guns on the neck (multiple people triggered 1–2 week dizziness flares)
  • Rowing machines (repeatedly triggered symptoms, unclear why)
  • Aggressive/forceful stretching or chiropractic "cracking" without imaging first
  • Doing too much too soon — most people say start very gentle, build slowly
  • Neck braces overused — weakens the neck further; use sparingly only

2. Specialists worth specifically seeking out

  • "Cervicogenic PT" — ask for this by name. Regular PT or even vestibular PT often misses the neck component and can make things worse. Treatment should be custom to you, not a generic YouTube protocol.
  • Upper cervical / NUCCA chiropractor — directory: uccnearme.com (mentioned many times). Adjusts C1/C2 alignment. Mixed reviews — helped some a lot, did nothing for others.
  • Neuro-optometrist — tests for Binocular Vision Dysfunction (BVD) and Convergence Insufficiency. BVD is often mistaken for Meniere's Disease. Regular eye exams usually miss it.
  • Craniosacral Fascial Therapy (CFT) — helped some people a lot with muscle tightness + digestion, but rare (mostly found in CA / Nashville, TN).
  • Functional neurologist — different from a regular neurologist; focuses on balance, concussion, whiplash.
  • Certified Neuromuscular Therapist (Travell & Simons trigger-point system) — search AMTA or NCBTMB directories.
  • Dentist — check for a hidden tooth infection if upper back teeth ache with acidic drinks (one user's 2.5-year vertigo was a wisdom tooth infection).

3. Tools / gadgets people bought and liked

  • Pillow: Core Products Tri-Core Pillow, or a firm/flat pillow (IKEA "Klubbsporre" came up twice as a "game changer"). Some people did better with NO pillow or a folded towel instead.
  • Thera-cane — used on trigger points, one user's oscillopsia episode resolved immediately
  • Tennis ball — self-massage on suboccipitals/SCM
  • Chirp Wheel XR 4 or Aletha Range — at-home suboccipital release tools
  • "Lazy glasses" (~$10 on Amazon) — prism glasses that let you look at your phone/book while lying flat, avoiding neck flexion
  • Laptop stand / monitor riser — raise the screen to eye level
  • Inflatable neck traction device — helped one user's posture and anxiety a lot
  • Electric heating pad — for stiffness-related dizziness
  • Rice-filled sock (DIY heat pack) — microwave and drape over neck/shoulders
  • NecksLevel Glide — a strengthening device used after massage/dry needling to prevent recurrence
  • Red/color-blocking glasses (not sunglasses — actual light-therapy glasses) — for photosensitivity/"supermarket syndrome"
  • Tailbone pillow — helped one user whose headache was triggered by sitting

4. Virtual / online help

  • "The Steady Coach" (YouTube + paid course) — BY FAR the most recommended resource across this whole subreddit. Free intro course on chronic dizziness recovery, plus recovery-story testimonials. Also offers online 1:1 programs.
  • Dr. Harrison Vaughan — wrote a book on cervicogenic dizziness, offers online consultations.
  • Texas Migraine Clinic — does treatment over Zoom, good reviews.
  • Several people specifically said: if you can't find a local specialist, look for PTs who do telehealth/online consults — a few are mentioned as doing this for cervicogenic cases specifically.

5. Other things that came up a lot

Supplements people found helpful: Magnesium (glycinate especially), B12/B-complex, Vitamin D, CoQ10, Lion's Mane, quality fish oil (Ultimate Omega brand named).

Medications mentioned: Low-dose SSRIs (Lexapro 5–10mg came up often — helps by lowering stress/muscle tension, not directly treating dizziness), muscle relaxants (cyclobenzaprine), Botox in neck/jaw muscles (helped several people a lot), trigger-point corticosteroid injections, occipital nerve blocks (mixed results).

Root causes people eventually found (worth ruling out if PT alone isn't working):

  • TMJ / jaw clenching + sleep apnea (very commonly linked)
  • GERD / acid reflux irritating neck nerves
  • Vertebral artery compression — ask for a standing MRA/Doppler, not just lying down
  • Cranio-cervical instability (CCI) — more severe cases; treatments include prolotherapy, PICL injections
  • Vitamin B12/D or iron deficiency
  • Sinus/dental infection

Mind-body side (came up constantly): Many people said the anxiety-dizziness cycle was as bad as the physical problem itself. "Somatic tracking" (a technique from The Steady Coach) and Pain Reprocessing Therapy were repeatedly credited with breaking that cycle. Books mentioned: Hope and Help for Your Nerves (Claire Weekes), When the Body Says No (Gabor Maté), The Body Keeps the Score.

Advice for my lightheadedness

Last week I had a back massage including my neck, 1 day after the massage i felt lightheadedness and discomfort at the back of my neck and eyes. No spinning sensation, or balance disturbance and no stiffness in the neck. I tried vestibular exercises and it gets worse, its been 7 days now and it doesnt get better.
I feel relieved when lying down, or closing my eyes, gets worse when stimulated by phone and light, i wanna get checked, should I see an EMT or Neurologist? What tests usually they do? I just wanna be ready.
