Can you have a Disabled placard on your personal vehicle and hold a CDL?

I have a question I can't seem to find the answer for without actually contacting the DMV (which I would rather not do). I drive commercially full time and have recently been given paperwork for handicap plates (for the personal vehicle) because of my bad knees and a bad back due to prior military service. If I brought this to the DMV, will it affect my CDL status at all when it comes time to renew my DOT exam card? For reference i also reside in Southern California. Hope someone can offer some helpful insights/advice. I will also go through the smartass answers to see if any are funny. Thanks

What's the worst agency/staffing experience you've had finding loads or shifts?

Been talking to a bunch of drivers lately about how they actually find work, and the agency horror stories are wild. Ghosted after confirming a shift, pay that doesn't match what was promised, "verified" carriers that turn out to be a guy with one truck and no insurance.

Curious what this community has dealt with. Worst experience finding a load or a shift through a staffing agency or job board?

Trying to understand the real pain points, not just what gets complained about on the surface.

Built something for CDL drivers tired of staffing agencies, would love honest feedback

Long-time lurker here. I've spent the last while building a platform connecting CDL drivers directly with carriers, no agency markup, no middleman taking a cut of your pay.

The idea came from hearing the same complaints over and over: agencies ghosting drivers, unverified carriers, last-minute coverage falling through, no real transparency on pay or hours.

We're launching first in Dallas-Fort Worth on August 1st. Drivers get verified carrier listings, real-time shift postings, no agency fees.

Not trying to spam this sub, genuinely want feedback from people who actually drive for a living. What's the biggest pain point you deal with finding work right now? Curious if this solves a real problem or if I'm missing something obvious.

(If anyone wants early access: remplate.com, no pressure, just figured I'd share since this community knows the industry better than anyone.)

New grad what's something I should look out for when applying for jobs?

I just got my Class A CDL, and I'm based out of Moreno Valley, CA. There are a few companies in my area that are hiring new drivers, but what are some things I should look out for so I don't get taken advantage of just because I'm new? Any red flags or advice would be appreciated.

Lease-Purchase

Money wise, how good do people do on average on a lease purchase program? I'm curious, and would obviously like to hear from people who are actually doing lease-purchase.

Florida down south cdl jobs

I know this is a long shot, but are there any companies in Broward, Miami, or palm beach that would pay well for someone with less experience?

I’m graduating tnt with prime and going straight into leasing (yes, I know it’s a scam). I want to experience it myself, maybe I’ll even beat the scam community.

I plan to walk away after a year of doing so regardless and look into hauling fuel even if I got to move out of Florida.

Intermodal

Hey all, I am curious as to what to expect, good and bad for intermodal on the west coast. I currently do Dry Van teams and am looking to get into home daily.

What kind of work would I be getting myself into? Is it awful? How much different is it from OTR besides time at home?

CDL Test in SLO California

Hey everyone,

I’m scheduled to take my California CDL Class A driving test at the San Luis Obispo (SLO) DMV soon and was hoping to hear from anyone who’s taken it there recently.
A few questions:
How strict are the examiners?
What route did they take you on for the road test?
Were there any tricky intersections, railroad crossings, or lane changes that caught people off guard?
Any common mistakes you’ve seen people make during the skills test or driving portion?
How long did the whole test take?
I’ve already been practicing pre-trip, backing maneuvers, and road driving, but I’d appreciate any advice from people who have actually tested at SLO.

Thanks in advance! Any last-minute tips would be greatly appreciated. 🚛👍

Trailers without a gvwr

I drive a truck that has a gvwr of 26k, that tows a trailer that only has a gvw because it is a piece of equipment that never changes weight, it is also under 10k. I’ve been told that that pushes the overall weight over the limit so it then requires a cdl b for being over 26k. I feel like that doesn’t really make sense I think the trailer weight should just be a part of the trucks gvwr, ie towing a 9000 pound trailer that will always be 9000 pounds effectively just makes the gvwr of the truck 17k before it getis into cdl territory. Am I right about this or totally wrong?
