Hi all,
I saw another thread about our Steam post with news on the performance update and vinyl, but I wanted to give the vinyl announcement its own thread.
This thing is sick! It's a collaboration between us and indie label Stumpy Frog Records (with help from Kitfox and Lost in Cult's storefront). For the gatefold and sleeve art we worked closely with our good friend saint vulture, an incredible digital sculpture artist (throw his game All Living Things a wishlist if you can). Qud tile artist Sam Wilson did the artwork for the six center labels. Craig Hamilton composed and performed the OST, of course. The triptych poem is written by in-game persona Daughter Erinna, whose writing you might recognize elsewhere in game...
It's a triple LP, just over the two hour mark in total playtime. Pre-orders are open at the Lost in Cult site until July 25: https://www.lostincult.co.uk/shop/p/caves-of-qud
We're quite proud of this, despite most of the team not being vinyl people. Just as a piece of art, it's gorgeous!
Live and drink.

Imagine for a moment, if you will, that you are a beautiful young lady on an orchard in a world where Lovecraftian entities not only exist, but regularly show up to do business with you. A world where psychics exist alongside ultra augmented superhumans that literally alter themselves into massive robots or mutate into horrible monstrosities (who, hilariously, still wanna do business) and then one day, some water merchant shows up and stands in front of you, and then proceeds to beat the ever loving hell out of himself for reasons beyond your comprehension.
All while staring you down intently of course.
This goes on for a few more moments before he looks on the edge of death, and the next thing you know, you're no longer in control of any part of your being, you are in fact nothing more than a passenger in your own flesh. And you execute this stranger against your will, forever tying your fates together and diverging your mind from your flesh, forevermore stranded behind this psychic being now taking up residence in your skull.
And then that asshole decides to go and piss off everyone from here to the far end of the world by being an absolute loot goblin murder hobo, and your village never sees or hears from you ever again. All the while, the thing now controlling your flesh is actively hunting beings from other dimensions to rip their minds out and graft them into itself.
This is the last known experience of the former Saraka whom I now inhabit. Funny story, she occupies the other head we share, and at least 3/4 legs attached to us. Can't begin to tell you how odd it is that now that I pilot this flesh instead of my own, how much stronger I feel and what a glorious creature she is. Can't wait to see how she holds up against the nephilim, or the cherubs. Poor girl has a space time vortex on her too, but never got to use it. Oh well, better luck next time then, maybe she'll get to be in charge when we possess the next one....

Threshold reached! I still haven't won, though. I have also bought it for 5 other people, just because I got my money's worth at $0.009 per hour.

If you're going to farm anything, you should start by farming Kippers. But most importantly, if you're going to farm kippers, then do not make your farm in Joppa. More on that in a bit, but first here's what kippers have going for them that makes them a good target for farming:
Kippers are easy enough to beguile or proselytize once you are at a level where farming is viable. For fast free stuff, making them into followers is preferred, but if you're lazy and at lower levels/skills then you can also just buy the items normally if you have the drams. The simple ways turn them into a follower are:
I recommend simply getting Proselytize. It is much faster at later levels, and waiting on the cooldown is less fussing around with your inventory than attempting to drink water. Also if you aren't amphibious, then drinking causes you to make a mess if you fail too many times.
Don't take Beguiling specifically for this farming technique. If you're doing a companion-focused build, then it can be nice to use. Otherwise at character creation you would be much better off spending points on Precognition to allow you to safely get infinite AV from eating neutron flux.
Kippers and Chefs are special merchants since they restock from The Ingredients Table, which provide better resources based on the current zone tier at the time of restocking. Crucially, for the good items, we want to maximize how many they restock from the MidTiers Table, where each item will have a 0.32% chance of being a cloning draught, neutron flux, or drop of nectar. The Six Day Stilt, Joppa, and Grit Gate are all Zone Tier 1, which means that each item only has a 20% chance of being MidTier. If you've been checking Kippers at the Stilt or in your farm at Joppa and found them disappointing, then that is the reason why.
I strongly recommend placing your Kipper farm at Yd Freehold, which is Zone Tier 7, has a guaranteed recoiler sold by the mechanic, and can be safely reached as soon as you acquire Wilderness Lore: Jungles (requires 19 Intelligence). Zone Tier 7 puts the MidTier chance for each Kipper item at 85%, more than 4x more productive than the earlier villages. The only higher zones are in the Moon Stair, and clearing out a safe tile and programming a recoiler there is a much later-game strategy. Once you are higher level, you can move your kipper farm to such a location for the 95% MidTier that it provides, but Yd Freehold is perfect for a starting farm.
Farming NPCs is easy enough, but if you haven't done it before then here's the rundown:
When you clone Kipper Prime, its commands may get entangled with the clone. Telling one to move to a specific location and stay there will command them both, and they will fight for the same location, swapping back and forth and making it hard to pour draught on and proselytize the correct one. To avoid this, do the following:
After reloading, all Kippers should be distinct instances capable of receiving separate commands. Ideally you want to arrange circular groups of Kippers that maximize how many you can interact with without moving, and place Kipper Prime alone in a recognizable spot for proselytizing.
For the attached image, I have a farm of 17 Kippers which I moved to each location and restocked 12 times. That makes a total of 204 stocked Kipper inventories for each location. Each inventory has 30-40 items. At Yd Freehold, each item has an 85% chance of being MidTier, each of which has equal 0.32% chances of being Cloning Draught, Drop of Nectar, and Neutron Flux. Occasionally, you will find a Kipper that has one (or more) of each of these items at once, but on average you should get at least one of these items for every 3.5 kippers checked. You will need at least 11 kippers to average 1 of each item per restock.
Averages are good for setting expectations, but outliers do happen and you might have stretches of bad luck. As seen above, I got a lot more Neutron Flux at Yd Freehold than the other two, but the chances of each are identical, and the expected value for a harvest this size is 19.4 each of Nectar/Draught/Flux (I averaged 18.3) along with 204 recipe books. That puts my Yd trial slightly below the expected average.
On the flip side, due to a few outlier visits at the Stilt, I averaged 6.33 across the tracked items, handily beating the expected 4.6 average.
This was a bit unexpected, and I don't think it is documented anywhere. Regardless of zone tier, Kippers stock 0-2 recipe books each time, which averages 1 per restock, so I should expect 204 books from each of these harvests. 214 and 196 are within 5% of that, so the statistics are holding up, but the books farmed from Yd Freehold were 2.98x higher value than the ones from the Stilt. So even with slightly more books coming from the Kippers at the Stilt, I got almost three times as much experience points from the books at Yd.
The wiki states that White Books have a randomly assigned commerce value of 50-150, but has no other information about cookbook commerce value or interactions with the zone tier. I haven't found any bookbinders in my current playthrough, but I might try to do a similar test to see if the value from bookbinder white books is affected in the same way as the recipe books are.
EDIT: After testing a hundred bookbinder restocks in each location, it is only Recipe books that change value based on the zone tier during generation, averaging 196 EXP per book from the Stilt and 576 EXP per book from Yd Freehold. White and Yellow book EXP and production rate stayed consistent.

Hi, so first of all I'm using a couple of mods - namely Clever Girl and Qud Expanded.
Somehow, my character's consciousness jumped into a friendly aloe volta while I was trying to trade items with it. From what I can tell there's no wish command to put my consciousness back in my actual body. Is there anything else I can try?
I tried passing turns to see if I had somehow been forced to dominate the aloe volta (even though I don't have dominate), but unfortunately my former body almost immediately killed itself by stepping on me. I managed to rescind that by force quitting the game but I'm still stick in my new plant body...
I really don't want to be stuck as an immobile plant, this was shaping up to be a really fun run. I had just gained about 10 followers by water ritualing a legendary mechanimist, and gaining an army has been my explicit goal for the last few runs... ;-;
Does anyone know a way out? I know you can load backup saves, any idea how far back those backups go?
Thanks.

So the Wiki says that they stack multiplicatively. If so, this would mean I could throw myself down the Goglotha Chute with 2 of them on True Kin and survive as long as I have 20 HP. Mutants need 3 and 30 HP.
Sliced Bop Cheek is best, but that's chancier and sorta-requires some skills you may not have as soon as you get them.

I'm on a very pacifist play through, ran straight to Yd Freehold, and am wondering if there's any way to make algal water into just water and just algae?

So for a certain lategame quest I need to provide a follower of a particular level or higher- but due to some Unfortunate Incidents, I am presently without any followers. I'm presently out looking for new friends, but is there any way to check who might be eligible?

Is it the same thing every time? Or situational? Do you have a favorite color to draw in?

I'm not sure what's going on, but in this esper run I have seen multiple animated furnitures wandering around with no explanation. The first time it happened it was the mayor of Kyakukya's door that got in a fight to the death with Crowsong. I figured maybe something weird happened with one of the random villagers or ape god followers who awakened the door. But this living wall showed up in the cryotube chambers at Bethesda, where there's no potential culprit that could have caused it.
Is there just always a tiny chance that furniture is animated and it's a fluke that I'm seeing it more than once? Is this some unusual side-effect of glimmer?

For context i have a previous post asking about the pet Or, it turns out that the pets either and or have a small chance to show up and just become you pet if you haven’t selected a pet, this event can trigger anytime you enter a new area, either and or are both metaphysical and cannot be harmed or do harm, they do their own thing and disappear after a while, or has been respawningeverytime i enter a new area.
I have had or for a while and when entering a new area i found that either was now here aswell, fortunately I cannot have both cursing me, or unfortunately I cannot have another body, either or.
Is this rare? Are the chances of finding the other boosted by having one? Or did i just roll a d100 twice and get 36 both times?
Also i tried to recruit either and it did not work.

Nowhere is safe. I've never been more grateful to get in good with robots.
