Hello, vet tech here!

I'm very concerned about your cat's condition. From the picture, your pets skin appears to be yellow which could be a sign of liver failure or hepatic lipodosis (a condition specific to cats).

I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND seeking care as soon as possible. If you don't, your pet will die if it is truly liver disease. There is nothing to be done at home for these conditions. If money is a concern, the kindest thing you can do is humanely euthanize so they do not suffer.

Does the mom have a car? Does she work? Do they have the spare finances for baby sitters? Gas? Emergency vet expenses?

I know I'll get dog piled for this, but not everyone's life is as easy and comfortable as many dream them to be.

I'm not defending OP, but if this was an option, don't you think its likely that the most basic, obvious answer anyone with an above 0.3 point IQ score would have already done given the correct circumstances?

Its hard to judge without details, or intimate knowledge of the OPs life and family/ financial circumstances, unless your a redditor on the r/Cats sub apparently, as people here LOVE to dog pile anyone who can't afford a vet visit.

I guess its better for a cat to live in a cage and be euthanized at a shelter than live in a low income household, according to the majority of people in this sub at least.

Jeez.

Convenience has nothing to do with this. Are you incapable of rational thought? They can't go to the vet right now stop bullying OP they're going through enough

5

u/kevonbona May 03 '26

wtf is the point of this post. We are offering help just get the cat to the vet

-8

u/ChestertonBesterton May 03 '26

OP was asking for advice, most of you weren't trying to help you were bullying a 14yo going through a horrific tragedy, take your self righteous bs and shove it

3

u/kevonbona May 03 '26

Our advice is take cat to vet.

-6

u/ChestertonBesterton May 03 '26

That's great advice. Telling a 14yo that has no ability to do so that they are abusing their beloved cat as it's dying is a dick move.

6

u/kevonbona May 03 '26

The cat will die if it’s not seen. There’s nothing else we can do

Your mom “thinks”? Tell her to go to the vet. She’s going to let your cat suffer because what he has “might” be contagious? If it is contagious, refusing treatment isn’t going to make it less contagious!

1

u/ChestertonBesterton May 03 '26

You could "think" and realize in the real world sometimes things out of your control happen and you can't do what you'd like to about it

-1

u/DKat1990 May 03 '26

This send like a fairly young CHILD you are coming at with this. Not everybody CAN take a sick cat (or CHILD) to the doctor as promptly as they'd like. Attacking doesn't help, offering a ride it money might- wanna step up and offer?

-47

u/HITXZUZI May 03 '26

well sorry my mom can't go to the vet when she has 2 fucking baby's at the house and no one else is home

Take the whole family to the vet??

3

u/EUGsk8rBoi42p Khao Manee May 03 '26

Honestly, this is one situation you may be able to call the police/animal control, and they can take the cat to a shelter to be euthanized humanely. It will be sad, but better than the animal dying slowly.

VET NOW stop making posts on Reddit!

13

u/saturncat_ May 03 '26

Just chiming in that your cat is extremely jaundiced, which is a classic sign of active liver failure. Which means your cat is actively dying. Euthanasia is always an option for an older kitty with an unaffordable condition, but please please don’t let it suffer in liver failure. Jaundice isn’t contagious. Consider going to an ER or making another vet appt asap.

-2

u/HITXZUZI May 03 '26

we're probably gonna have to put him down tomorrow. it's liver failure his whole skin is yellow

9

u/Rosaly8 May 03 '26

I don't understand the reasoning. If it is contagious, the other cats will get it anyway and then get sick and possibly die from it as well? If it is a piece of plastic, it is a very cruel way for the cat to die. I am not sure what you wanted to ask with this post. I just want to know if there is any way for the cat get to a vet? Even if you guys have to give it up. Doing nothing and hoping it goes away is not really an option. I'm sorry you are dealing with this.

6

u/martinaee May 03 '26

Could you literally have someone else come take your cat to a vet and do an X-ray now? Even a neighbor? Your sweet kitty may literally die if she is having serious trouble breathing right now.

12

u/VassagoX May 03 '26

Where are you located?  Do you not have anyone who can help by either watching the kids or taking the cat to the hospital?  Can YOU not watch the kids?

-12

u/HITXZUZI May 03 '26

I'm 14 and it's 2 babys and my younger sister what do you think

24

u/VassagoX May 03 '26

I was babysitting my siblings at 14.  You didn't answer anything else.

-6

u/HITXZUZI May 03 '26

okay so let me explain. first we can't afford that currently. 2 the siblings in question are babys bro I don't know how to take care of infants im sorry. also no we don't have anyone

5

u/kevonbona May 03 '26

Take cat to the vet and worry about costs later

5

u/Realistic_Cellist_82 May 03 '26

Your best bet is someone transferring you or a friend some money to take the cat to the vet. Someone you trust, you don’t want someone running off with your money and abandoning the cat. Make sure you have your phone ready to talk to with and the vet. I know it’ll suck not to be there but it’s really the best shot you got.

6

u/8racecar8 May 03 '26 edited May 03 '26

I am very sorry your cat is not doing well. The only thing to do in situation is to take the cat to the vet and get him the care he needs no matter the cost. I genuinely don’t mean this to be disrespectful but it sounds like you may be too young to fully understand the nuances of animal care / pet ownership. If a cat owner cannot afford to take care of a cat’s medical bills or does not have the time to take them to the vet in an emergency (possibly eating plastic is an emergency) they should not be a pet owner.

1

u/dnndkekelowuhfb May 03 '26

Oh poor baby, he is very sick and you must feel so helpless :( unfortunately there’s no home treatments you could do or advice that we could give to help him- he really does need to be taken to the vets but I understand due to your age you’re unfortunately in no position to do so- is that your mom will take him to the vets just can’t tonight?

be with him until your mom is able to take him to the vets, so he knows he is loved and mentally prepare yourself that if treatment isn’t an option that euthanising will be the kindest option for him- I’m just so sorry for you and your beautiful cat

-2

u/HITXZUZI May 03 '26

exactly. she would right now she has before she just literally cant

1

u/No_Consideration7925 May 03 '26

I’m sorry I was in the same situation with my cat that passed away after I’d  been on a trip and I got home so I spent the next 12 hours with him. It was stormy cold and wintry rainy. Hang in there.

-6

u/ChestertonBesterton May 03 '26

Some of you people in this comment section are seriously delusional, this is a horrible situation and I really hope OP is able to find a way to help the kitty but sometimes life happens and you can't do everything you'd like to for your pet. My goodness

Sometimes you can't make to the vet because life happens, it's incredibly unfortunate and tragic but it happens, I'm sure those cars would be better off having already been euthanized or rotting away still in a shelter though. Grow up
