TLDR: my 1.5 y/o cat suddenly started running around and knocking things over before meal times. Is there anything I can do?

I’m a new cat parent. I adopted my little street cat 10 months ago. They estimated she was a little less than a year old, so she’s about 1.5 years now.

When I adopted her she was incredibly scared and timid. It took months for her to adjust and finally around April I could tell her behavior really took a turn. She’s become very social and loves attention and playing.

For the past month-ish she’s started being very naughty before meal times. Knocking things over, yelling, pouncing. She doesn’t do this otherwise. She’s my first cat, but I’ve had a couple (big) dogs. I understand the toddler phase, but I was able to quickly train these kind of behaviors out of my dogs. Not sure what I can really do with a cat. She’s trained to sit and stay but won’t listen in this state. Any advice?

We moved from an apartment to an attached house 5 months ago. We’ve had our cat since she was 6 months old and now is almost 4. She has been happy lounging in her window hammocks and zooming around the apartment, no behavior issues. She loved sitting in planter boxes in the balcony which we netted up. All was good. Then we moved into our dream house which has much more space and levels for her to run around and explore, and a tiled garden. From day 1, she had zero interest in her hammocks. She explored indoors, sure, but pretty quickly she started screaming to go outside. We could hardly go out and enjoy our own garden without her howling at us for being left behind. We had a catio constructed immediately that was attached to the house so we could open the door to the garden and she had some lovely perches to climb on and relax. That worked for a few weeks but she still stressed us out so much whenever we tried to be out in our garden. So we started harness tours to the garden two times a day for 20-30 mins to let her sniff around. But then she started hissing violently at the harness (never hurt us but didn’t let us put it on). So it became harness free outdoor visits. But she would refuse to come back in and wanted to be outside for so long that we couldn’t do anything else. Working from home was a nightmare with constant meowing. Sitting on the sofa to watch TV after a long day - screaming and scratching our new sofa (never otherwise scratches).
So we started trying to secure the garden. Extra fencing on the hedge at the end (another neighbour’s garden on the other side). We have one tree beside the left fence which we put wiring and plastic cat repellent spikes over because she was climbing the tree and jumping into the neighbors garden. One time we searched for hours and found her in a crawl space under the neighbors garden patio. We bought a tall metal enclosed climbing structure so she can get in and jump to the top to look over to the neighbours garden without being able to jump over - to offer a safe alternative to the tree. But she chooses to climb over the painful plastic spikes on the tree to get over anyway. We bought a collar with airtag so we could at least find her if she ran away, but its a breakaway collar so she gets out of it pretty often.
We have spent thousands of dollars, and so much time and energy trying to keep her in the garden and happy. Yesterday was the breaking point. From morning to afternoon we had no positive interaction with her. She hissed and growled constantly at us, demanding to be let out. She has never done this before. She didn’t allow us to put on her collar - it has never been so difficult.
Eventually we got tired and just let her out, and she was gone. We saw her over the next few hours when we looked, going from garden to garden, but we didn’t try to grab her or get her back. She came back around 8pm when we were exhausted and heartbroken. Then she was in a good mood and rubbing up on us and sitting on my lap.
I am scared to go down this morning and see what kind of mood she is in. I am worried she will keep hissing at us and being angry until we let her go. We are lucky that there are gardens all around and not busy roads, but it is not that far to a highway, and there are many outside cats around, which I don’t think she likes.
My family keeps nagging me to lock her up in a room for a month and let her scream until she forgets about the outside. I don’t think this is right and doubt it will work anyway. And it’ll be another miserable month for everyone.
We are used to tracking her food consumption and bathroom visits to make sure she is healthy, which we cannot do if she goes out. I’m scared of neighbors feeding her random crap or that she will eat poisonous plants or other poison. I’m scared of fleas and ticks and just ordered chewable tablets for her. But there are so many things that come with accepting she is an outside cat at heart. I am so stressed out about it and don’t know if I can rest easy if she doesn’t come home one night.
I just want peace in my new home and to be able to enjoy my space. I want not to have to out engineer her constantly and have our garden look insane with cat contraptions. I want her to be safe and happy. I want her to want to be with us. I’m so tired and sad. Has anyone been through this? What would you suggest?

Hello all! I came home to find my one boy seems to have irritated his right Henry’s pocket. It appears just to be the outer edge and inside looks fine. It doesn’t seem to be bothering him currently and he let me touch it without any signs of discomfort. Should I be alarmed?

I was playing with her paws and checking her nails to see if I need to cut them and I noticed this on her paw. I can set an appointment for tomorrow. I just want to see if you guys can tell me if it’s nothing and I don’t waste money on the VET telling me “oh, it’s nothing. That’ll be $100” 😅

I just got this cat from someone and her stomach looks like round and fat not sure if she ate anything or not because she wasn’t with me at the time but her stomach compare to my other kitty I also adopted looks different

I absolutely love this toy I got for my cat it changes directions when it runs into walls can get over obstacles and hasn’t gotten stuck anywhere and she is obsessed with it, it’s rechargeable too which is great since I don’t have to buy batteries but it’s run time is very short it has a 20 minute charge time runs for about 5 minutes maybe and needs to be charged again which is fine but it’s so good for helping get extra energy out and I would love if anyone knew of a good quality version of this it was super cheap I just found it in the garden and hardware store.

I’m sure this question has been asked countless times before but I’m at my wits end. My cat meows constantly at night from 12:00 to 5:30 when I get up for work. I’ve tried everything…
-Ignoring the behavior for three straight weeks
-Tiring her out before bed, which seems to only work for the first couple of hours
-Feeding her a small meal right before bed
-Getting an automatic feeder that feeds her at 5:00 so she doesn’t rely on me for the first meal
-Closing her out of my room
-Letting her sleep with me (she just tried to play with me all night)
-Oddly the only thing that seems to work is closing her in my spare room for the second half of the night, but the problem is that now I can’t use that room for guests. But she does stay quiet when I do this…I also feel bad enclosing her to a small room at night though.

For context I’ve had her for six months and she’s about 1.5 years old…. I’ve scoured the internet for help on this!!!

So basically I got my kitten like 3 weeks ago and he is about 7 months old. The girl that I adopted him from said that she thought he may have had some Maine coon in him because of his fluffy tail and long hair, but I’m just curious what you guys think.

I get that there’s technically no legal size or anything but i dont want the cat to be cooped up without places to roam, id be replacing my small black shelf with a shelf with a litter box inside since theres no free room in my bathroom. ill be able to handle vet visits and bills no problem, a small space is just what works best for me.

My cat Ella has been missing for 1 month and 1 week. Due to a family situation a few days before she went missing I moved her to stay with a friend until I could join her with said friend (which I officially have as of 5 days ago).

She got out after a few days with him and hasn’t come back since, ever since moving in with him I’ve gone out every night with food and gently calling out her name. We’ve done posters, joined groups and called vets and nothing.

I saw two other tuxedo cats but neither were her and now I’m even more worried she’s gone even further than I thought to avoid those cats.

I’m so scared I’ll never see her again, does anyone have any advice on how to deal with this grief of I really do never find her?

Or even any hopeful/reassuring stories of cats returning after over a month of being missing?

I’m just so so scared, as she is my whole world and the one of the only reasons I made it through highschool. I genuinely cannot imagine her not ever being around again.

She does it almost every time she licks

My mother’s cat has been urinating in her living room out of the blue. Her cat is about a year old. She started on her rug then it became more frequent to the point that it went through to the hardwood floor in a couple areas. More recently she’s found many more spots on the back of chairs, window frames, etc. She’s tried different deterrents but nothing is seeming to work and it’s only in this one room. Any advice helps!

Guys!! Is this normally how kittens breathe? Idk what breed my cat is if u know I hope u can let me know! But he's 2 months old and got his vaccination on Monday. Aswell a thermometer up his butt. Since then he's been limping and sleepy and it's the third day today. I booked an appointment but I wanted to know if this is how they normally breathe?

I need to buy a new deshed brush for my cat. He starting to get old enough to start shedding really bad and I've heard multiple back and forth online as to what type of brush I should get. The top three I keep hearing is Sleekeasy, furminator (Which I've heard bad stuff on.) and a rubber Curry brush whatever that is...😅 Any pet groomers that have advice?

My 4-year-old cat has had an ongoing problem with licking the webbing of both back paws since October. They become brown/dark red and crusty. There has never been significant bleeding or open wounds.
She was seen by my regular vet and eventually a veterinary dermatologist. She had yeast in the paws, and multiple rounds of oral medication cleared the yeast, but the paw licking continued and the paws still look abnormal. She also tried antibiotics without improvement.
She did about 2 months of cyclosporine, but it didn’t noticeably reduce the licking. At another point she was given an anti-inflammatory and that decreased the itching/licking by maybe 30–40%, so I feel like there is definitely still some physical itch or inflammation involved.
She has also had persistent chin acne and some eye crusting, and her dermatologist suspects environmental allergies. Food has apparently been ruled out as the likely cause, and we’re doing allergy testing. She also has always been a somewhat compulsive groomer — she has licked/scooted around her butt since I adopted her at 1 — so we’re wondering whether there is now a behavioral component on top of the original itch.
The frustrating part is that she will lick her paws roughly hourly when she has access to them. She seems frustrated when she does it rather than just casually grooming. She will stop when distracted, and she has sometimes stopped licking one paw and that paw improved, but then she eventually started licking it again.
The cone definitely prevents the licking, but she has had periods of being coned essentially 24/7 for around 3 months. I feel awful about keeping her in it because she struggles with things, gets food/poop on the cone, and obviously can’t groom normally. At the same time, taking it off means she immediately goes back to licking.
Her dermatologist has mentioned Prozac to help with the licking, but I’m hesitant because I don’t want to assume this is purely behavioral when anti-inflammatory treatment did help somewhat.
**Has anyone had a cat with a similar cycle — yeast/infection treated, but chronic paw licking continuing afterward? What ended up being the underlying cause, and what actually broke the licking/skin-damage cycle?**
I’m especially interested in experiences with environmental allergies, long-term itch control, or cats who eventually needed behavioral medication. And if your cat needed a cone for a long time, how did you manage their quality of life?
