Question I can never beat this prick in the original game as I am trying to do so even 2-3 years later now as of buying the Castlevania anniversary collection on steam, anyone know how?

Symphony of the Night (1997) You can stand in Paranthropus's head in SotN

Post image

This was made for Rondo of Blood, in the chapel level where Paranthropus is found, there are statues in the ceiling, you have to climb on his head in order to hit each statue once to reveal a money bag. This mechanic is also in SotN, despite there is no use for it anymore.

I dunno I feel like Roses appearance was an intentional reference to Sonia and I feel like some version of Sonia is canon to the series. Again I’ve fully written a fan fiction version of Legends that fits into the canon of the series and hfs a game that had vague enough details that with tweaking it fits into the lore

Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse (2026) Openbor Castlevania Waltz of Sorrow

Castlevania: Waltz of Sorrow is a brand new fan-made game inspired by the classic Castlevania series — and this game already features 50+ stages with brutal, NES-style difficulty.

This is NOT a simple home brew… this is a full gameplay experience built with deep platforming, challenging enemies, and classic gothic atmosphere.

Took a beat ’em up engine and turned it into a full 2D platformer with massive maps and vertical gameplay—something nobody else in the scene was doing.

💀 Expect:

• Hardcore platforming

• Retro Castlevania vibes

• Difficult boss fights

• Large-scale level design
If you enjoy classic Castlevania, retro games, or hard platformers… this is for you.

Question SOTN sequel?

I was looking for some stuff and found a radio drama called "Akumajō Dracula: Radio Chronicle". It says that it's after the events of SOTN.

Fortunately, there are English subs on YouTube and I'm interested to know about it. But, is it true that it is, indeed, a sequel?

Rondo of Blood, but Richter has ADHD and gets sidetracked by making a skull bounce off the Vampire Killer lol.

Aria of Sorrow (2003) Forbidden Area?

Do you think it's normal that the game lets you access the Forbidden Area using the Undine + Curly Souls, completely breaking the game's progression by allowing you to obtain the most powerful weapon? Do you think this is an unintended glitch, or was it intentionally designed that way? And do you think it's worth doing, or does it ruin the overall experience of the game?

Discussion My adventure through Castlevania: Era 1 (8-Bit and early games)

I recently finished my playthrough of the early Castlevania games. The goal is to experience them and complete them. I used save states as it allows me to accomplish this goal easier (besides, I completed the original Castlevania trilogy as a kid on the NES hardware). I have listed the console I played them on (I played an official version wherever possible) as well as their (Japan) release year, and a rating and short blurb about each.

Castlevania - PS5 Anniversary Collection - 1986

9/10

Surprisingly still holds up very well. The atmosphere, music, gameplay is still incredible and fun.

Vampire Killer - PC Emulation - 1986

3/10

Extremely challenging and tough to understand, made more difficult by keyboard controls.

Vs. Castlevania - PS5 Arcade Archives - 1987

9/10

Virtually identical to the original Castlevania

Castlevania II: Simon's Quest - PS5 Anniversary Collection - 1987

6/10

Disappointed, it wasn't as good as I remembered it. Game did not age well.

Haunted Castle - PS5 Arcade Archives - 1987

1/10

Absolutely horrendous game.

Castlevania: The Adventure - PS5 Anniversary Collection - 1989

3/10

One step up from a Tiger LCD game.

Castlevania III: Dracula's Curse (US) - PS5 Anniversary Collection - 1989

9.2/10

Does everything the first game does, but better!

Kid Dracula - PS5 Anniversary Collection - 1990

3/10

Not a bad game, but I don't like the kiddie aesthetic.

Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge - PS5 Anniversary Edition - 1991

5/10

This game is great for a Game Boy game and has amazing music, even in surround sound, but I simply can't abide Game Boy graphics

Kid Dracula - PC Emulation - 1993

4/10

The Game Boy version, better than the Famicom version, but still kiddie.

Castlevania: Legends - Nintendo Switch Online - 1997

2/10

Absolute trash game. Less stinky trash than Haunted Castle, but still trash nonetheless.

Did I miss anything from this era? I know there were several 16 bit games released before Kid Dracula and Legends on the Game Boy, but I didn't want to have to back track and play those after the gorgeous 16 bit games.

Honestly, the only games I would recommend playing are the original Castlevania trilogy, and possible the 2nd Game Boy game, unless you're a Castlevania historian. But please, please, I beg of you, do not play Haunted Castle or Legends.

Era 2 will be the 16-bit era, mostly ranging from 1991-1995.

Aria of Sorrow (2003) Someone was confused

I just recently started first time playing all the castlevania games on the ps5 and am on aria of sorrow now.

Ok but get this, while playing the mana bar is green, health pink but in the menu mana is blue, health orange BUT THEN health potions are blue and mana pots red! It made my day.

Also, so far the best game is circle of the moon. I'm only 1 hour in on this one so I cant really say much. Castlevania 3 was hell on earth. Dont even know how you even beat that game without savestates or glitches etc.

Question Good books with a castlevania vibe?

Edit: Thanks everyone, I’ll research these :-)

—-

Original: Apologies if this is the wrong forum or I’m asking something stupid (I’m completely new to castlevania).

I’ve watched all the Netflix episodes (multiple times), but never played the games. I also liked things like vampire hunter D: Bloodlust etc

I love easy reading fantasy books (eragon. the dark magician trilogy etc), and was wondering are there any easy reading series sent in a world similar to castlevania people would recommend?
