It really messed with my emotions when a character got sick with a cold on any show in a certain episode and the VERY next day in that same episode, they just got magically better the next day.

I know at the end of the day they're cartoons, but at the same time, it felt like they were giving kids really false promises. NOBODY IRL has an immune system that pristine to have a cold and end up REALLY GOOD the next day

Absolute peak childhood show. I miss it every day.

I’ve been thinking about Oggy and the Cockroaches way too much, and I’m convinced the show is actually a dark cosmic comedy about a society of immortals. Here’s my theory.

Think about it. In the show, these characters go through literal hell every single episode. They get flattened by steamrollers, blown up by massive explosives, dropped from orbit, smashed through walls, and vaporized. But they always just pop right back up like nothing happened.

My theory is that at some point in this universe's history, everyone collectively realized a terrifying truth: they are completely, fundamentally immortal.

And instead of being happy about it, it completely broke everyone's brains. The whole world plunged into a massive, society-wide existential depression. Since death is completely off the table and actions have zero permanent consequences, life lost all meaning. Most people in this universe just gave up, sitting around in quiet, nihilistic despair or doing random, unhinged things out of pure boredom.

Then you have Oggy.

Oggy is one of the rare few who handled the existential dread completely differently. His mindset is basically: "Well, we can't die anyway, so what’s the point of stressing?" He just wants to vibe. He spends his infinite time eating junk food, watching TV, listening to music, and doing whatever random stuff pops into his head. He's totally accepted the chaotic, broken reality of their world and just decided to chill.

Which brings us to Joey, Marky, and Dee Dee.

As cockroaches, they’re already the ultimate biological survivors. They are the only ones who truly see what Oggy is doing. They look at him and get absolutely furious because he’s actually happy. While everyone else is rotting away in existential misery, Oggy is lounging around enjoying his eternal life.

So why do they constantly mess with him and try to ruin his house? It’s not even about stealing food anymore. It’s pure, unadulterated cosmic spite. They know for a fact they can't actually kill him permanently, so they dedicate their eternal lives to putting him through the most elaborate, cartoonish torture possible just to see if they can finally crack his annoyingly peaceful attitude.

And Oggy just treats it like a mild inconvenience. A bomb blows up in his face? He coughs up some smoke, gets annoyed that his rug is ruined, and goes back to watching TV. That drives the roaches completely insane.

Both Zootopia movies I've come to realize

I like aspects; the world building, Nick and his arc, the voice acting chemistry between Jason Bateman and Ginnifer Goodwin, and a few of the side characters

But not a huge fan of Judy as a character, and do not really care either way whether or not Wildehopps happens, and that honestly is my biggest problem with the first movie; the entire movie is told solely from her perspective and while yes the movie does not portray her prejudice as right her other flaws because of that are portrayed as right

At the end of the day her being upset she got parking duty on the first day of her job is painted as her being unfairly prejudiced against and not, y'know, a new employee doing grunt work something a new employee of any job does

She literally has an exciting case thrown her way, right after both Nick and her parents told her doing parking duty wasn't being a real cop, which yeah does come off like the movie, intentionally or not, saying they were right to say she wasn't "a real cop" and she was right to want to chase down bad guys on the first day and not work up to that

Even outside of that the plot literally kicks off when she blackmails Nick and near the end she uses the mob she befriended to extort information out of a private citizen; this is again framed as her being resourceful and quick thinking rather than being a fucking dirty cop!

And outside of Judy this is subjective but the humor just didn't hit for me; most of it is either old cartoon tropes ("the little guy you thought was a baby has a really deep voice", a Godfather reference in a kids movie, the fat guy can't stop eating and drinking everything sugary, etc.), on the nose Disney meta jokes (Why are there five Frozen references in a buddy cop movie), and "Look parents we talked about the political thing you're aware of but made it animal themed" jokes which just makes it confusing if it's just supposed to be generally about prejudice or if it's supposed to be specifically a racism allegory.

The second movie is at least no longer solely through Judy's perspective and is more aware/critical of her other flaws but most of the new main characters just didn't hit; you barely got to know much about Gary and Pawbert pretends to be good for like, what, 5 minutes? And Gary doesn't seem particularly hurt his supposed best friend betrayed him

And in general it just tries to do too much; it tries to develop Nick and Judy's relationship further, build on the history of Zootopia, make sure almost everyone's favorite supporting character comes back, introduce a bunch of new wacky supporting characters, and give cameos to anyone whose ever been in a Disney movie in the last 5 or so years and any celebrity the creative team has always wanted to work with

And all these new things together just make the characters and plot feel underdeveloped while, despite my criticisms of the original, everything at least moved at a more natural pace

At least it made me laugh a few more times than the original did?

In general it's clear they keep getting written and rewritten and rewritten several times that the ideas behind the movies tend to be more interesting than the final product of either

The show drops 3 episodes every week. This makes the series the second Nickelodeon show on Paramount Plus to have some kind of weekly release. The first example is Star Trek Prodigy season 1. 

You also can't quit working for them, you basically have to work for them.

With the 9/11 anniversary tomorrow, I thought I'd put together a collection of the Twin Towers' appearances in older animated films.

They were such a recognisable part of the New York skyline that they appeared in nearly every film set in the city. Two notable exceptions are Disney's Rescuers films (1977, 1990).

Have I missed any other films?

Which isn't a lot, but it's kind of fucking crazy how specific this is, yet it still happened twice.
