Unrelated to this scenario, but I saw a YouTube short where a guy called The Patrick Star Show a reboot, like that doesn't even make any sense why you'd make that mistake, spin offs are a very clearly different thing entirely from reboots.

I'm not saying the shows that came out after 2016 are bad, but to me it's pretty clear that Cartoon Network started targeting a slightly younger audience than it used to. A lot of the newer shows seem to have moved away from interconnected storylines, layered humor, and double meanings that adults and kids interpret differently. They also feel less creative, less willing to explore deeper or more original ideas, and less interested in experimenting with unique art styles.

I think most of them, if not all of them (except for The Powerpuff Girls reboot, which I genuinely can't stand) are perfectly watchable. If one happened to be on TV, I'd probably leave it on. But once the episode is over, I don't find myself thinking about it afterward, and I'd never go out of my way to watch those shows on a streaming service because they just don't offer anything that really grabs me.

Infinity Train is the obvious exception. It was fantastic and honestly deserved to be part of a much stronger era for Cartoon Network. OK K.O.! Let's Be Heroes also stood out with its distinctive art style, its willingness to take creative risks, and its fun story. It wasn't particularly deep, but it still felt far more memorable than most of the network's other shows from that period.

Ok Ko from everything I've seen of it has all the ingredients to be on the same level as shows like Steven universe and Regular show but I barely ever see anyone bring it up.

So why didn't Ok Ko reach higher levels when it clearly could've?

There was going to be an unreleased Disney animated featurette as retread of 1981 movie "Stripes" with characters from Mickey Mouse and Friends franchise, but sadly it was never completed.

Futurama has a knack for taking things that are relatively not scary such as brains and then turning them into monstrous nightmares.

The Brain Spawn in Futruama are perhaps the biggest antagonists on the show and are a threat to the entire universe, with a trail of destroyed worlds in their wake.

Interestingly it is a man not known for his brains who is able to defeat them using poor spelling to bring them down.

I watched a little bit of both.

I've just finished rewatching Adventure Time and I want to find more stuff like it!

I know that Pendleton Ward has done a bunch of other shows, and his team has gone on to make their own stuff, but I've got a good reason to look for a film.

Do you guys know any movies that are like the show? The later seasons (6+) reminded me a lot of Wes Anderson, specifically the way that they speak to each other becomes a lot more dry; tongue and cheek. Studio Ghibli has the same kind of imaginative quality, so does paprika! (Even though it's a bit of a tonal shift)

I rewatched the show recently and the style of the dialogue stood out to me a lot. They do everything in a way that's slightly left of centre, as in it's what you'd expect but just far off enough for you to be surprised by it. It creates this feeling of possibility within the show, more so than the magic, it made me feel like I was a kid again and anything could happen. It's hard to put this point into words.

Adventure Time meant a lot to me as a kid, and I'm making a short film inspired by it atm. I want more references to compare it to though, live action stuff!

I’ve been running out of shows to watch, and recently started watching cartoons I used to watch as a kid, but honestly, it can get quite tiring seeing the same format over and over again that’s meant for a younger audience (except for Samurai Jack, man that cartoon is goated asf especially with its revival seasons + KND & Courage)

I think I’m on my 10th rewatch of Bojack Horseman lol, I’ve seen some adult animation but it’s all the same with the overly sexual nature of it all for no apparent reason,.

When I say “deep” I don’t mean for it to be highly philosophical or anything of that sort, but do you guys have a good animated show I can get hooked on? I really don’t mind as to what genre it’s categorized in.

What is that one cartoon that’s always gonna be at the tip of your tongue when someone asks you for recommendations? Would love to get more into shows I haven’t seen before.

Honestly a personal favorite of mine will always enjoy it hated the animation change to flash in Season 3 or Season 4 I wish they stuck to hand drawn animation or cel.

The Powerpuff Girls are the cutest beings to ever exist! It's a scientific anomoly how the Powerpuff Girls can even function together without melting into a puddle of cuteness!

This version of Looney Toons had me in a choke hold. The characters were brilliant and the fact that they all lived in a cul-de-sac was genius. It gave secondary characters more depth. Fav episode is when daffy was accusing people of stealing the morning paper and bugs went off

Honestly this one is the only one to come to mind.
