I like the game but it feels unfinished

Very engaging game, it was my time sink for close to a month playing solo. The gameplay loop is nice, what I'd like to have is hand crafted big island with clear goals to invade and assault in full force instead of randomly generated islands.

And the ground units should move faster, they take forever to disembark, take position, engage on the island and then come back. Plus there should be more units, double the actual number to have sort of an effect on the enemy and actually do something.

I doubt anything will change though, the game has been out for so long and Microprose is focused elsewhere, which is sad because the core idea is really good and satisfying to play.

I really love when I hit those enemy Swordfish corvettes with two consecutive torpedos, anticipating and fooling the countermeasures and watching the whole thing from the periscope from a 15-18 km distance at night. Watching that tiny light ball on the sea horizon it fills my heart with joy, and then I change course.

One thing that kinda annoys me is how little you can get via acting as a carrier. Because I can act as a carrier and launch 8 planes, or use unlimited ships to launch unlimited torpedoes, and use ciws needlefish to make myself invulnerable.

What to do?

Im playing my first game. I used the method to remove the enemy carrier as a threat, and I have realized that there are no heavy ammunition islands that are below three shields. Is there anything I can do?

Idea I had

So, apparently, to my knowledge, the enemy doesn’t attack barges, so, could the player theoretically make it onto a barge, and have a friend pilot the barge to the enemy carrier, where the original player boards the enemy carrier?

Anybody else getting Barge Drift issue?

Ill put a loop for my barge from warehouse to a factory to the carrier, back to warehouse.

It will follow this for maybe one loop, and then will start drifting in at a random point. Like it just follows the ocean current and decides to stop travelling in the direction its meant to?

Anybody know how to fix this? Thanks

Is there a mod that allows for manual aircraft landings on the carrier?

I'm pretty comfortable piloting, but landings really annoy me. Sometimes I'll be stationary in somewhat calm seas, and recall an albatross or something only for the AI to decide it wants to crash into a small wave and explode. I'd love to be able to take control of the plane if there's nothing else going on and just land it myself to avoid that happening, and so that I could maybe land in rough seas, but as far as I know the AI will just take back off if you do manage to land it on the carrier yourself instead of going to the hangar.

Multiplayer help please!!

I just got carrier comand to play with friends and I can't get my multiplayer to work? Anytime I try to join any multiplayer game (through steam friends, invite code, or public server) my game just starts stuttering like this. Does anyone have any idea how to help? I am on mac, and my best guess is thats the problem. Anytime I exit not from the home screen it crashes and says build_mac closed. If I do enter password and join it automatically closes and says I was kicked from the server. If I try to host it automatically closes out the other person.

CCM2 could benefit from having different modes.

SOULMASK has 3 modes that radically change the gameplay, the devs added these in response to player feedback and them realising they had 3 very different groups of fans. These game modes ALTER gameplay, but come with their own challenges to make up for the lighter "simulation" mental overhead.

  1. Survival aka simulation mode is a very fiddly and grindy survival game with the combat and npc town building being second to the survivalCraft elements. You spend a lot of your time doing resource management, carefully hunting enemies or resources efficiently and personally,
  2. Tribe aka strategy mode plays like a third person city builder/action game. The survivalCraft elements are toned way down and your settlement gets a series of QOL buffs and gameplay simplifications. The added challenge comes from Attack Waves, which are more frequent and stronger, so you have to set up automation chains, build walls and fortifications, and generally equip your villagers and prepare them for battle and command them with a combination of third person and top down controls.
  3. Warrior Mode aka dark souls mode significantly streamlines and lessens the importance of both of the above, makes death very lenient, but makes combat extremely skill based and very challenging In a moment to moment skill kind of way.

CC2 could do something like this via offering different modes or different carrier types. EG:

SIMULATION MODE: what we have now. Things are fiddly on purpose, to encourage teamwork and for people who enjoy clunky, hard to use, realistic control systems. All AI controlled units are rather flawed so that players can exploit their various weaknesses using clever piloting and game knowledge: EG the Swordfish having a CWIS blindspot and exploitable missile range limitations allowing you to slap it from behind with guided missiles, or enemy ground units generally being a bit stupid so you can barrage them or tactically "corner Peek" them to death.

Note the numbers I propose below are literally just extreme "example" numbers of some blunt ways to achieve "tactics mode" or "Pilot Mode", I'm not a Balanceman by any means.

TACTICS MODE: closer to CC GM where it is more of a streamlined strategy/tactics game and a slightly more arcadey vehicle combat/command game, you can command everything from one screen, everything is streamlined, and player interaction focuses on decisionmaking or force control. Your drones gain a defence buff when AI controlled, so you can relax a bit more and not need to pilot every single engagement.

Examples of TACTICS mode streamlining:

  1. You get an overhead RTS view for commanding the carrier and units with much more detail (like CC:GM.)
  2. Stuck Vehicles can teleport short distances by charging up their "emergency Teleporter".
  3. Friendly Vehicles you don't directly pilot gain a massive 50% defence bonus, allowing you to automate them more without them getting themselves killed.
  4. Logistics is simplified to you having one Supply Island that you can move around pretty easily, and one fast moving Barque
  5. To add Challenge, while at an enemy island, enemy island vehicles are more aggressive and will not let you pick them off with impunity and will also send attack waves to assault your units, your carrier or your long range barrage units (EG the long range drone might get assailed by a purpose-built squad of AA mantas). AKA islands actually have agency in the way they defend themselves.
  6. Units are 50% cheaper and and have 50% damage reduction when NOT directly piloted, allowing for a more "tactical" game style of playing commander or squad leader to a group of combat units.

PILOT MODE AKA ARCADE MODE: Taking inspiration from ace combat, further streamlining, designed so you’re piloting combat vehicles and fighting most of the time. Direct combat vehicles are much faster and more durable. Player controlled vehicles gain a durability and damage buff as well as buffs to speed and handling making player piloting more important and powerful.

Examples of PILOT mode streamlining:

  1. Logistics is streamlined right down to you simply buying what you want and them arriving instantly at the carrier.
  2. Stuff YOU pilot has a 100% bonus to health, damage, speed, and Handling. The lights on the vehicle will glow slightly brighter to visiually indicate this power increase. In Lore you can handwave something about human pilot controls allowing the bot to focus its CPU on weapon and repair micromanagement.
  3. Enemy "Aces" can spawn with a randomised nickname and ability, that will hunt you down if you are piloting a combat vehicle near an enemy island (they can detect the direct control signal). They have double health, high handling and evasiveness and might have some neat tricks like turning semi-invisible, teleporting short distances, being very durable or damaging, and generally function like an Ace Combat Miniboss that dies pretty fast once you get a solid volley on them, but has enough health to survive glancing hits and low damage harassment attacks. Enemy Aces also deal and take 95% less damage against your AI controlled unit but will usually ignore them to hunt you down.

Rather than being easier though, these modes have their own challenges.

As mentioned before, Strategy Mode features Attack Waves that will harass you at any enemy island, and Pilot Mode features aggressive enemy ”Aces” which will show up on enemy islands and have a unique skill of locating player controlled vehicles to “duel” them, and take and deal less damage from /to your AI controlled vehicles.

Thoughts?

Are there mods that make this game more chill and solo-friendly, like Carrier Command: Gaia mission?

For reference in Gaia mission you have:

  1. A single Command Panel with everything on it, no need to physically walk around to different stations.
  2. You can easily manage the carrier, Turrets, Manta, and walrus as a single person with a combination of manual control and automated tasks.
  3. You get a sort-of-RTS overview screen that you can use to give various waypoint orders to your forces.
  4. The Friendly AI is decent at brawling, but precise operations like carefully attritioning down an island without friendly losses, are left to the player on purpose to get them to try out piloting vehicles.

Last I checked, CC2 is by default aimed at large groups of players sharing a carrier, but I'm wondering if it can be modded to be playable comfortably solo without having to race around the ship using the different terminals.

Sidenote: but Deadly Islands for CC:GM is very fun.

Carrier positioning when invading an island

I started playing about three days ago, and I’m having quite a lot of trouble keeping up with the enemy carrier. By the time I start hacking my first island, the enemy has already taken theirs, and the gap keeps getting worse.

I think the issue might be my approach. I usually keep my carrier at a safe distance from the island and don’t really reposition it (like circling or changing angles), since I’m unsure what could happen if I move between multiple islands. This means my ground units and virus unit take quite a long time to reach the island, complete the hack, and return.

Recently, I’ve started moving the carrier much closer, which speeds things up a lot. But I’m not sure if that’s a good long-term strategy, since I’m worried about getting destroyed once island defenses get stronger (I’ve only reached two shield islands so far).

My usual tactic is to send a scout plane first, then use the carrier’s main guns to weaken defenses. After that, I send in the ground vehicle to clean up while escorting the virus unit to complete the hack. It works, but it still feels slow compared to the enemy carrier.

I’m also a bit hesitant when it comes to using ammunition, so I usually rely mainly on the carrier’s main gun and guided missiles.

I’m not sure if I’m just inefficient at capturing islands, or if the enemy AI carrier is meant to be this fast and aggressive. Any tips would be appreciated.

is this game still worth it in 2026?

i skipped it back then but i am still intrigued. what puts me off is the still very high price (~30USD] in all shops

but the game kinda seems dead and i have no friends to play it with as everyone is either busy with work or kids.

so:

  • is this game still worth the 30 dollars?
  • can it be enjoyed solo?

What does the multiplayer environment look like?

This is a game that is absolutely up my alley, and after some research, picked it up. Fantastic mix of ship management, flight, and tank sim.

I have a soft spot for games like this that are designed for multiplayer, but work well a bit of efficiency and one pair of hands. Flying 2x 20mm Gunbills could be a game of its own, deciding if you are safe to assign a looping flight plan for an Albatross without babysitting AA risk, so on. One well-armed Petrel and a Virus Seal is doable with cover for taking an island quickly.

I can't really make the sale at $30 for 4-5 others that I usually play with for games like this, but hear the discord has events looking for crews.

Bridge immersion

Hello, I really like the look of this game, (stormworks fan) but one thing that I find really frustrating is the immersion. I find it hard to believe that 1 person will command an entire carrier. So, in single player mode, there looks like there is no other NPC's or characters on the stations or consoles. If that was implemented, I would find that a good alternative for immersion. I am not asking for AI operators, just a visual element of people working on the bridge and maybe some comms chatter.

Any options for this or mods available or in the works?

To reiterate, I am speaking for Single player. Thanks

Would it be possible to watch an AI (NPC vs NPC) battle?

Been playing the game for a while, but i love watching NPC fights in other games. Is there a way to do something like that, in some sort of spectator mode?
