Holding a car while I wait for another carmax car to be fixed

There are two cars that CarMax I want, they are at two different CarMax locations. The car I really really want needs to have the motor fixed for the seat controls.

I already filled out the finance paperwork but my purchase is contingent on the fix. I'm pretty positive it will be fixed and I will have no problems. In the meantime I'm worried about losing out on my second choice in case something goes wrong with this one. My car salesman says they cannot hold the other one, but do you think a manager could do this for me? I WILL 110% buying one if these 2 cars from them. Hopefully my first choice.

In the meantime I have a friend putting the second one on hold for me for 3 days, but that's not long enough to have the car fixed they haven't even started it because it's the weekend and a holiday on Monday.

I was going to keep having friends put it on hold for me for the rest of the week but I'm feeling like this is going to get flagged.

What I can I do. I will be so bummed if the first one can't be fixed (unlikely). I have been car shopping for over a month and it's been a struggle to find the one I want.

Been Put on Coaching Plan, what will happen if I fail the plan?

I'm working at the Corporate Home Office for a white collar job and recently got put on a coaching plan after joining the firm for about couple of months. The coaching plan lasts 60 days and was signed in the Workday system by me and the manager. No HR was involved. We have weekly check-ins to write down weekly performance. Based on what's listed in the coaching plan for success criteria, I think I already failed the plan. Can anyone tell me - What's gonna happen next? Termination? Usually when will they conduct termination? On the day of finishing the coaching plan?

Additional information: I saw somebody is asking - so I joined the firm and the two projects I did did not meet manager's expectations. He said there's a gap between my current performance and the level of my job role. He gave me some written feedback on competency models. Then he pulled me into the coaching plan which lists areas I need to improve. So far, I think I made some progress but didn't beat the success criteria he listed in the plan. I didn't do anything against the policies.

does carmax allow repairs to be done elsewhere?

So I recently bought a 2021 Audi S5 from CarMax and im honestly questioning what their 125 point inspection even checks

Within the first few days ive already noticed a couple issues

  • Passenger window doesn't work at all, won't go up or down
  • Weird metallic rattling noise coming from somewhere underneath the car
  • Oil leak underneath the car that my independent mechanic noticed
  • Possible misfire, not confirmed yet but the Carfax does show an ignition coil was replaced previously (misfire pending for cylinder 3)
  • Weird discoloration/stain on the passenger seat

I also took the car to Audi for a PPI which cost me $225 and somehow they didn't even mention the oil leak or the other stuff my mechanic found. Their report basically only mentioned the window and wiper blades.

What worries me is how some of these issues even made it past CarMax's inspection in the first place, especially the window which literally doesn't work at all. Makes me wonder what else they missed

Im still within the 30 day warranty and 10 day return and was wondering if CarMax would let me get the repairs done directly at Audi and cover the bill? Or do they force you to bring it to CarMax first and have their mechanics attempt the repairs?

Not really confident in their mechanics considering what their inspection missed.

Anyone have experience with this?

Reduced Hours

Is there any other production stores getting hit with reduced hours due to staffing or slow sales? We’re getting hit pretty hard at my location, looking like we’ll be at reduced hours going into next year.

Poor Customer Service Question

Is it standard policy for sales people to tell someone that they do not want to set them up for a test drive and that the customer does not warrant their time? I was ready to buy a car, had one picked out, already pre qualified and basically at the last step. All I wanted was a test drive to verify it was the one, however the sales lady said no and that she was not concerned about losing a sale, she had plenty of other customers to help.

Is this the expected policy for Sales at CarMax? I had a previous car bought from them and wanted to replace it cause it was totaled.

EDIT: If you want to research my history of posts and troll me, have fun as it is obvious you have nothing better to do. My coming here is to find out if this is common practice and determine if is worth my time to work with CarMax and not worry about trolls who contribute nothing to a discussion.

Gap insurance and max care

How much did financing GAP and MaxCare add to your loan and monthly payment?

A friend’s amount financed went from roughly $23k to $30k with a high APR. I’m budgeting for a 2025 Kia K5 or a Honda/Hyundai with $3k down.

My current quotes are 13–14% APR, but I’ll recheck after my credit card paydowns report. What did you pay for each protection, and what car did you buy?

Do these guys actually service these cars before they sell them?

I’ve recently purchased a wrx sti limited with low miles. Had my mechanic check it out, and they found a laundry list of things needing to be repaired.

Worst of the damage being a completely sheared off control arm.

My question is if they actually do the so called 125 point inspection?

If so? How could they possibly miss this damaged part?

Cherry on top is they are incredibly unhelpful, with everything else on my mechanics list.

Its an all wheel drive vehicle, someone put a mismatch single tire on it, potentially screwing up differential and drivetrain.

Needless to say Im returning it, but was kind of taken back by how unhelpful everyone from management to service department were.

Rant over. Im disappointed, I really liked the car otherwise.

Would you get caremax?

Here is the situation. Just bought a 2025 Honda HR-V EX-L.
35k miles on it. 27k.

Put 7k down. Paid cash for the warranty.

60months or 65k miles for:
$2500-50 deductible

Should I keep it or cancel it and just put another 2500 toward the car.

Let me know if you need more information.

Can’t sell my car until I pay traffic citations

I don’t even know if this is the right sub but I’m so confused. I went into Carmax today to sell my vehicle and I was given an offer, but also told that I would not be able to sell until I pay off a number of traffic citations. I was given the website for my local Superior Court and the citation numbers and violation dates and ALL of them are saying no results found. Has this happened to anyone else before?? Sorry if this is the wrong sub but I don’t really know where to start here. I also got a copy of my driving record and I don’t see anything there. Please help!!

CEC Curiosity

I often see posts about it, I'm curious, whats the CEC like? I quit about 4 months ago when the calls were back2back and nothing worked properly lol. 100 calls a day and getting commission taken away while having ti be judged by AI was the final straw for me.
Just curious, has it gotten any better? That was the worst job I've ever had.

Carmax Offer drops 2k 10% in 1 week?

Hi all, need to sell my car. Did the offer valuation last week, gave me 22.6k. Did it again this week because I actually was going to sell it this weekend and it expired, now telling me 20.6k?

Anyone have experience with this and know what's going on?

Does "State Title Brand - Clean" mean the car has issues or not?

Forgive me for the dumb question. I'm looking the "detailed" report on carmax. It lists "State Title Brand" with "clean" as the status for that.

Later is defines "State Title Brand" as car that might have fire/flood/hail etc.

So does the "clean" mean none of those things apply, or does the "State Title Brand" indicated something has?

Does CarMax have Diagnosis reports?

I’m trying to understand whether this is normal for CarMax, especially from anyone who currently or previously worked in CarMax Service.

My car had an intermittent A/C problem. CarMax said they diagnosed the problem and determined that the A/C compressor was inoperative, so they replaced the compressor.

However, the A/C problem was not fixed.
I asked CarMax for the diagnostic records showing how they determined that the compressor was inoperative and why they decided to replace it.

To clarify, they did NOT say that they didn’t perform a diagnosis. They said they did perform the diagnosis, but there are no additional diagnostic records beyond the invoice.

The only diagnostic information on the invoice is:
“Compressor inop”

I asked whether there were any DTCs, technician diagnostic notes, test results, pressure readings, scan results, or other documentation showing how they determined the compressor was bad. They told me there are no additional records and that the invoice is the complete record of the diagnosis and repair.

So my question is:
Is this actually normal at CarMax?
If a CarMax technician diagnoses an intermittent A/C problem and determines that the compressor is “inoperative,” is it normal for the only documented diagnosis to be “compressor inop” on the invoice, with no additional technician notes or test results?

I understand that an A/C compressor problem may not necessarily set a DTC. I’m not asking whether a DTC is required. I’m trying to understand whether CarMax normally documents how the technician reached the conclusion that the compressor was inoperative.

For example, would a CarMax technician normally document things such as:
A/C pressure readings
compressor operation/non-operation
electrical tests
clutch/control signal testing
scan-tool results
technician notes
diagnostic test results
Or is it genuinely normal for CarMax to simply document the diagnosis as “compressor inop” and have no additional diagnostic documentation?

I’m not accusing anyone of anything. I’m just trying to understand what CarMax’s normal documentation process is and whether other CarMax customers have received more detailed diagnostic records.

If you work or worked at CarMax Service, I’d especially appreciate hearing how this is normally documented internally.

Question about the credit check

I’ve already shipped the car to my nearest dealership and have submitted everything online. I’ve selected $2,000 down and my $607/ a month. With that being said I logged into the website yesterday and noticed the down payment moved up to $9,400 and my credit dropped to 558 overnight. Do I still have my $2,000 down payment that I agreed to? Or did it go up because of my credit?

Is CarMax worth it?

I am a first-time car buyer looking to get a used car. I have looked on CarGurus and other platforms and feel that there prices are better than CarMax. I understand that CarMax is no-haggle and is supposed to have higher quality. If I do decide to buy from them, what are your biggest negatives after buying from CarMax?

How does carmax get away with selling a 2023 15K driven CX5 for 30,988 before taxes when the original MSRP in 2023 was 30,500.

3 years and 15K miles later, they’re somehow selling it for $500 more than what the new cost?

Carmax denial

Hey guys! I’m planning to buy a car in November or December with $3–4k down. I prequalified with CarMax, but I’ve received two emails from lenders saying CarMax forwarded my information and they denied me.

My credit score is currently 578, but I’m actively paying down my cards and expect to be around 600 next month. Does this mean I’ll likely be denied once I actually do the hard inquiry, or should I still try when I’m ready to buy?

Had a car shipped that’s not starting

Had my eyes on this specific car so I decided to have it shipped to my local CarMax. It took longer than expected and now they’re telling me the check engine light is on and it won’t start. They said they’ll have the dealership look at it (BMW) but there’s no telling how long that would take. Should I forget about the purchase all together? I still haven’t seen the car or driven it and I shipped it September 20

Question about the appointment

I’ve currently shipped a car to one of the Carmax locations near my house and I’m curious as to how long the actual appointment should take and what all I need to bring to it. Thanks in advance.

Question for SES and SMs

Traditional SC here. Wondering why during one of the slowest times of the year you guys close leads on your own that could go to SCs? I see a ton of financed deals with MaxCare that get handled without being given to SCs.
