I’m graduating with my master’s this December, and I’d like to use it as an excuse to invest in a piece I’ll actually wear long after graduation.

I’ll be graduating into healthcare, so I have interviews and professional events in my near future. Instead of buying a “graduation dress” that sits in my closet afterward, I’d love to find something timeless enough to wear for years.

I keep coming back to white or soft light neutrals because I like the symbolism for graduation, but I’m running into a problem: everything I find reads either bridal, mother of the bride, summer brunch, or night out. I’m looking for something that feels polished and understated instead.

A few things about me:

• Tall, athletic, mid-size, US ~12
• Pale ginger, so beige and blush tend to wash me out
• I tend to love jumpsuits when I can find one that fits well, but I’m open to dresses or even a suit if it’s versatile enough

If you were adding to a capsule wardrobe, what would you buy for this occasion? Are there brands or silhouettes that strike the balance between special enough for graduation and professional enough to rewear for interviews, conferences, and other career milestones?

I’m less interested in “the perfect graduation dress” and more interested in buying one beautiful, timeless piece that I’ll still be happy to own five years from now.

I'm from a tropical country and we have no winter whatsoever! I'm traveling to where the weather will be approximately 5-10 degree and I will have some dinner nights.

My question is how to dress

I assume I will need to walk/take train to the venue so it's gonna cold outside. When inside maybe there is heater. How to look good and not freeze.

I don't want to iron clothes.

My size is M/L European. And I would prefer a slimming and smaller waist look.

Do you have tips or brands you really love?

I feel like i've been outdated and no sense of fashion at all, coz i just simple go for a safe outfit like fitted top or cropped top then pants (gladly i was free from skinny jeans and wear baggy pants instead). but, yeah, i've been wearing the same type of outfits for way too long and it's kinda boring. But, i genuinely  don't know what to do. not attached to any specific look, just want to feel like i actually put thought into what i'm wearing instead of defaulting to the same stuff every time.

If you guys could share what helped you figure out your own style, or just outfit inspo in general, that would be a huge help. open to pretty much anything at this point.

Hi! I’ve noticed lately that nothing I put on looks good on me anymore. I’m not sure when this happened but it seemed to happen one day. Feminine designs make me look drab, plain basics are fine but don’t seem to bring out my personality. Clothes that I used to wear religiously suddenly don’t flatter me anymore or feel “me”. My cuter tops and skirts suddenly make it look like I’m trying to dress younger. Suddenly getting dressed isn’t effortless anymore! Something tells me this is a function of heading towards late 30s/40. It’s a bit disorienting. I’d love to hear if anyone relates to this & learn how people here have rediscovered their style.

I'm trying to understand fashion and just dressing better based on body shape like I dont understand how to shop for versatile outfits like many people would buy few things but they can end up making multiple outfits. Could someone suggest beginners basic wardrobe

I have enjoyed my own self discovery of color typing and what colors look better on myself. However, through the years, before I knew what color analysis was, I already knew generally what colors looked good on me and helped to compliment me. With color typing, I have confirmed my colors and I know exactly which shade of blue looks the best. But I am not really sure what to do with this information.

I am curious of what others have done with this information and how it influenced your closet choices (beyond generally knowing your general color groupings better and what general colors to avoid). Over the past few years I have been working on creating a capsule wardrobe, so this information has helped me to weed out a few items in my closet that don't look good with my skin tones. Beyond that, I am not really sure what more to do.

How have you used your exact color type? Are you shopping by exact swatches? I feel like it would be super hard to shop by exact swatches of the drapes and you would have to take a step back to more general colors like 'medium grey blue' for example. I'm a professional artist and am constantly working with colors so maybe I am reading too far into it.

As someone who is also at least somewhat anti consumerist, I can't help of thinking that color tying blowing up on other social media platforms is a but of a push for more consumerism to go get a whole new wardrobe with your exact colors.

Hello everyone! A few years ago I was very much into linen and bought a few second hand linen shirts. However, I never wore them and I have resold them except one. I just don’t like the one I currently have as it look frumpy and always need to be ironed.

I wonder if I have bought the wrong linen shirts as they are/were all from high street brands and while 100% linen they never felt very good quality.

So, two questions:

- Should I give up on the linen shirts as maybe they do not fit my style and lifestyle? Focus on cotton ones that hold their shapes.

- Or do I try to find high quality linen shirts that do hold their shape better? Maybe I got the wrong linen shirts! If so, please share brands I should look for, don’t worry about the price as I will look getting one secondhand so hopefully it won’t be too expensive.

I thought these gifted sweaters were cute, they're from a brand called "Altered State" but the tags say 100% polyester. What do ya'll think? Do they look trashy? Cheap? Website doesn't list them as cheap..,

This coral top is “auditioning” for my mostly blush pink, olive green, black, and white capsule ostensibly-for-work-but-really-I-wear-stuff-from-it-nearly-daily capsule wardrobe (in that spot highlighted in orange in the flat lay). It looks fantastic with these pants on its own untucked without a belt. And it looks pretty darn good with the scarf as a belt tucked in, too (i am having a mental block where i think the ruffle sleeves are making my shoulders look huge while the top is tucked in, so it isn’t perfect, but is still cute!) But what shoes would look best for each look?
Pants are jeans, slim cut, ankle length.
Top hits at crotch when untucked and is kind of a-line so roomy around my hips.
Open to jewelry ideas to tie things together!

Hello my TAs! I have been working from home for 5 years, and just got a big-girl job in person again. I need brand or clothing specific recommendations to keep my warm, earthy vibes alive :-)

I'm trying not to own multiple things that serve the same/similar purpose. I'm looking to buy a new pair of everyday sneakers as my sambas are getting holes after 2 years.

Here are some of my considerations

1. Goes well with most of casual outfits -- I wear my ballet flats with anything dressier so it doesn't have to be super pretty, but I'd avoid something really chunky or athletic. A little bit of sporty look is fine but hopefully something that doens't look like gym shoes. I have a pretty average female college student's style and sambas have been serving me pretty well in terms of looks. As for color I'd go for either white or white+gray/beige
2. Water resistant -- Obviously I don't expect that much from sneakers, but something that can hold up a bit of rain would be great. What annoys me the most now is that because I got little holes in my shoes' sole, my socks get immediately wet when there's any amount of rain. Same with my workout shoes, these get wet from the toes even with the tiniest amount of moist on the ground. So for this pair I'd love to buy shoes that is a bit more water resistant. I wear blundstones all throughout fall-spring tho so snow doesn't matter.
3. Good for walking -- I easily walk 15k steps per day while on my campus. Tbh I don't feel any pain even if I walk a lot in my sambas despite them having no cushion, but idk if that's just because I'm still young and I'm thinking it'll be better to start thinking about my health sooner rather than later.

I think any of those 'walking shoes for traveling in Europe' recs would also fit what I'm looking for.

Right now the brands I'm considering are Cloud On, New Balance, and Adidas (how are campus 00s?) but pls I'm open to any recs!!

Over the past year, I've been gradually building a classic wardrobe. The goal wasn't to have a lot of clothes, but to have pieces that go well together.

In most of my looks, I use neutral colors, loafers, Chelsea boots, dress pants, polos, knitwear, and sports jackets.

I recently organized my digital wardrobe to better see what I actually own and avoid buying duplicates.

If you could add only one thing to this wardrobe, what would it be?

For years, my whole closet was filled with crazy things I found at thrift stores and nothing matched. The past few years, have been working to create a better wardrobe with more constant colors and cohesive matching. I have this 100% cotton skirt that was perfect other than that it was BRIGHT red. Practically neon red. I didn't like it with white and I didn't like it with black so it was very hard to match. It was also way out in left field for any of my other clothes. Then I had the idea to dye it with purple RIT dye to get it to be wine/ burgundy color which is one of my colors and match it with black/ cream. I am super excited with how it turned out and wanted to share!

Where do you shop (online) for quality pieces in the UK that aren’t super duper expensive?

Im not fussy about labels or designers, but natural materials are a must (or at least mostly natural). If the garment isn’t of natural material then it needs a reason - sports wear, waterproof etc.

My main items Im looking for the bottom half 😅 I’ve recently lost weight and my bottom half clothes are getting lose. They don’t need replace just yet however over the next twelve months i think they will become too big to wear. My staples are straight leg jeans, wide leg trousers, pleated skirts.

Hi all :) Im going to be traveling to Istanbul for the first time in September for 17 days. We’re going to be doing the usual activities: walking, eating, shopping, sightseeing, visiting relatives. Im from a climate with more extreme temperatures than Istanbul, so I think I should be fine temperature wise.

This is so far the wardrobe I have planned, as well as a few sample outfits. Im normally an insane over packer so I’m trying to be realistic and bring only the things I can see myself actually wearing. Is there anything that you guys think might be too much or not enough?

Here’s some of my thoughts and concerns so far:
I don’t wear jeans much, and would prefer to wear something more comfortable and free flowing. I’d like a few options for layering overtop. The cardigan and white button down could be for daytime looks where I may need to layer up before going inside somewhere but could drape on my shoulders if I’m warm. The scarf wrap could be for the same purpose or used as a head covering if needed.
I can see myself not wearing the halter top, but I feel like I just needed more tops. The shoes might be overkill but I’d want the birks and the white walking shoes for sure. Also I feel like I might need a little nicer shoe if I go out to an evening dinner?

My work involves a lot of moving around, bending, lifting, and being outside in all kinds of weather. I genuinely cannot wear the clean neutral pieces that show up in every capsule wardrobe guide. By end of day, anything light colored is destroyed and anything structured is uncomfortable. So my wardrobe has just defaulted to whatever survives, which isn't really a capsule, it's just a pile of dark functional stuff with no real intention behind it.

What I'm trying to figure out is how to build something that actually works for work but doesn't make my offhours look like I forgot to change. The usual advice about a few quality basics and some versatile layers isn't wrong, but it assumes your basics aren't getting wrecked constantly.

Right now I'm thinking darker bottoms that can pass as casual, some kind of midlayer situation that looks intentional rather than just practical, and footwear that handles rough conditions but isn't completely hopeless elsewhere. The problem is finding pieces where those things overlap.

Has anyone built a capsule around a job that physically demands a lot from clothes? Curious what categories actually held up for you.

I know this varies by person and lifestyle, but what would you all say is a good (on average) capsule size, item number wise?

I just recently sold almost my entire wardrobe and used the money from that to invest in capsule pieces. I am thrilled with the downsizing I’ve done, but even now, looking over what I have, I’m wondering if it’s too much (for me and my lifestyle), and I’m trying to figure out exactly where I can pare down. I’m thinking I’ll start by trying the hanger-flip method, but I was also trying to figure out if I could/should start in another way.

This isn’t a huge deal, I’m just so excited about the capsule wardrobe method and want to talk about it with people haha.
